I am sorting thru my late Aunts papers - she has saved envelopes with stamps from all over the world over the last 50 or so years. Also lots ripped off envelopes. And some aerogrammes, too with their pre printed stamps as well as stick on ones
How do I go about finding out if they have any value?

Try contacting Nelson Stamp Club, they should be able to help you.

That’s a shame, but justified. Just make sure you don’t have more than 500 in your shop! Good luck. Don

Its actually been a very busy week with lots of folks with collections to sell and plenty of keen regulars looking through all the treasures revealed! I think a lot of collectors will do more of their buying on line now and get back into their stamps as they have no sport to watch and no holidays to take. Stamp collecting is a good and easy hobby these days to undertake from home. If there is nothing interesting on television and you can't go out to the pub then getting out your stamps in a good and logical alternative!

"N.Z.2020" GOES AHEAD AS A NATIONAL STAMP EXHIBITION.

Opening in Auckland on Thursday 19th March, the Exhibition which was originally planned as a FIAP Exhibition was downgraded to a basic National because Overseas Entries, Collectors and Dealers could not attend. The limit of 100 people attending has been overcome by splitting the Exhibition Displays and Dealers Floors into separate "Shows" each able to accommodate 100 people. Whilst not ideal the organisers have done everything possible to run the exhibition during a difficult period. I truly commend them for this. Well done guys and gals!

No, it’s just been closed lunchtime Saturday, with the increase in risk level.
Shame, as huge costs and a lot of work. Palmares cancelled.

I'm sad to hear this after all the hard work that went into it. I see that London 2020 planned for May is now postponed until 2022. The hobby will now need to become more on line than ever before. I had 6 local collectors come to my place on Saturday which is about usual for a Saturday so not bad and we did some good business but not as much as I usually do when attending a Saturday Stamp Fair in Christchurch. Luckily however I've sold more lots on Trademe this last week than I have done for any week this year so it looks like on line sales are where its at!

The NZ Stamp Collectors Club Committee have decided that our monthly meeting will go ahead this next Wednesday evening at 67 Mandeville Street in Riccarton as planned but it will be limited as follows,
We will not hold our Club auction which is postponed for at least a month. We will have a basic meeting with chairs well spaced, a display on Elephants on stamps (already arranged) and we will ask members their opinion on future meetings while the Virus problems persist. So far we have had several apologies from members who will not be attending and indications from others that they will be there. Looks like 50/50 attendance at this stage. We have emailed members this decision if they are on our email system.

I had a lot of collectors visiting my shop today to get in their essential supplies to keep them going over the 4 weeks. Collectors buying stockbooks, hinges, lots of hagner pages etc as they need something to do over the at home period. one chap even had me deliver a bootload of stuff to keep him happy for 4 weeks. I suggested to him that he only looks through a carton each week but I'll bet he can't wait that long!

OTT means "over the top" and I agree. Why have all listings been extended for one month and buy now options removed? All Trade Me had to do was remove any "must pick up" listings and delete any "can pick up" options and courier options from listings. Many of us have a posting box within walking distance from home and we are allowed to go for a walk, so why should we have to wait for a month for our listings to sell or possibly longer if the lockdown continues.

I'd be a seller at $10 per volume....the binder value. The contents all have to be updated. I sold a set of 3 to 2012 recently for $40.

Currently only "Buy Now" listings work and those listings stay for a month but if a buyer hits buy now then the lot sells and the payment option is limited for them to paying via Trademe "Ping". The lot can be sent via NZ Post ordinary mail as usual but the seller will not get their money from trademe until the end of April. I have sold and posted off several lots already as I luckily have a posting box just over the road from me. it is a time we all have to put up with a lot of extra hassles but there are keen buyers out there. I've also been selling on line via ebay.

Trade Me removed Buy Now from all my listings within 24 hours of when I started them. Casual sellers are at a disadvantage.

Yes,Trademe are creating all sorts of new rules while not always understanding the ramifications they have. The use of only Ping as a payment system seems rather "Trademe knows best" and they certainly want to increase their control of the on-line market by thinking that sellers only supply goods by their Courier system or personal pickup which certainly isn't the case. It is interesting times we live in.

kiwisteven - 2020-03-28 00:15:00

I offer Ping but can't add Buy Now to any listings. Trade Me are discriminating against sellers not In Trade.

The New Zealand Stamp Collectors Club will be hibernating while the lockdown continues, so all future club meetings have been cancelled. This includes committee meetings as well as the general meetings of members. Our printed newsletter will also go into hibernation because the printshop that we use is not open for business. Those members who are on our email newsletter service will continue to get updates and I will also post updates here. Steven McLachlan. president of NZ stamp Collectors Club

The N.Z. Stamp Collectors Club held their first post Covid Meeting today in Rangiora at the usual Five Staggs Rangiora Rooms. Because groups can only be up to 10 people we did not publicise the meeting prior to it happening because we normally get a few more than that attending. We hope to have our Christchurch afternoon meeting in the Reese Room at the Methodist Church hall in Papanui on Wednesday 3rd June and our main Evening meeting at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville st, Riccarton on June 24th but this will depend on the Government allowing more than 10 people to attend. Clubs do need to be carefull because a lot of their members are elderly. In the meantime members have certainly been busy with their stamp collections at home going by the number of accessories being purchased.

Many older stamps have different paper types, different perforations, different watermarks, etc. A simplified set would be a basic one of each stamp in the set without taken into account other variations.

Its great to see the Fair being able to go ahead on Saturday Morning. I had several visitors to my shop in recent days buying supplies in case the fair was forced closed by the Government response to the Covid problem.

The last fair was really quite noisy with all the folks there all having a great time. No doubt it will be a great fair tomorrow.

Try soaking in methylated spirits for about 30 seconds to a minute and then carefully "slide" your tweezers under the stamp. (obviously try on a "worthless" stamp first.) The gum residue may remain sticky if so, dust with talc.

It should be a busy fair as I know of collectors coming from Nelson and from North Otago as well as many locals who are coming to the fair. If you are an out of town collector, the Christchurch Fairs are on the first and third Saturday mornings each month so it makes sense to time your visits to Christchurch so you spend a morning at a fair.

Let's hope it will be as busy as the fair 2 weekends ago was. That one was exceptional with heaps of collectors having a great time and lots of sales being made. It seems that under the current circumstances where people can't fly overseas for a holiday they are spending up on their hobbies including lots more on their stamp collections.
