#Post

Morning everyone.

Kiwimade I love those metal Poppy wall hangings.. Our New world has had several in recently.. I love browns and oranges, I think its cos we are Earth signs. My nephews 39th tomorrow.Your Monday, Im Tuesday and its the big 50 this year.
My nephew has pneumonia at the mo, so not the best way to cruise into your birthday. Its his Big one too, he officially out lives his mums age tomorrow. I had no idea he had a target Age, like we all had with wanting to out live dad, my sister and brother. But it doesn't surprise me that he does. But he has a couple more to do now.

My first day on insulin today. didn't even feel the needle ( I have a good spare tyre on the tummy) and its only 4mm long. Hopefully Ill start feeling much better now .

Am reknitting an orange teddy and will do another purple, as the two I sent last week haven't arrived. I hadn't told Whiskey (JO) that I was also sending one for her, so had to fess up yesterday.

So since I am terribly sore today, it will be a day hanging off the ends of the needles.

Ohh to be able to do a wool order, its been soo long. Enjoy Kuaka.

Have a good day all

morning ladies :) Well the royal baby is a girl, one of each for Kate and Wills.

Some outdoorsy stuff for me today, have all along the roadside fence to finish. I want to prepare the ground for the rose cuttings I took about a month ago. Will give the fertiliser (horsey doo) a chance to rot down a bit before I plant the cuttings out in spring. I need to kill off some agapanthus, I saw a weedkiller advertised that will kill it so need to investigate.

Then knitting this afternoon, I've finished the centre panel and have started the next one.

Happy knitting :)

Morning ladies, well yesterday I did the vacuuming and some sewing (and some knitting of course) so today I have a pile of ironing and still the wee patch of lawn to mow and firewood to saw up. I'm sure I won't get all that done today, but we'll see how I go.

I've got a crockpot of soup on - never made it in the crockpot before, but I decided to give it a go, the worst that can happen is it's not ready for lunch but for tea.

Decided that the lace-weight shawlette can wait till closer to spring as it's probably not going to be warm enough for winter so I've started a capelet in dk out of my stash. I did one pattern last night, only got to repeat it 24 times now and it's finished.

A friend of mine did a beautiful one for her mum but it's in 10 ply which I don't like knitting, otherwise I would have asked if she minded if I did one for myself.

Have a good day everyone.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Whiskey.. And Yes Im soo pleased the jellybabies turned up.

Ill have three babies to sew up later. Just have the arms to do on a purple one.

A quiet day here today.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning all
Good trip to Wellington catching up with various family and friends and attending a rather busy and noisy 2 year old's birthday party. But oh so good to get back to own bed!

Crockpot soup sounds a very good idea Kuaka, my sister always makes her soup in the crockpot and it is great. Will be interested in seeing how your little capelet turns out - we will be in Italy in December so probably rather cold and am looking for something light but warm for around the neck to take.

Very little knitting while away so now want to get on with some more but need to do a bit around the place first.

Happy knitting all

Well the capelet is almost in the "why did I ever think this would be a good idea bin" !!!! Not the patterns fault though. I started last night. 12 rows to the pattern. After 6 rows I decided that I had the wrong size needles, so frogged and started again. I then did 12 rows, one complete pattern. Looking for something else today and I came across a bag of yarn which I thought was what I was using, but I fear what I've started using is just an odd ball of something similar in which case, I will have to frog and start again. Haven't double checked yet, but in my search for an almost completed slipper (which I eventually found) I came across some other wool which I had forgotten about, and which I think would be better for the capelet, so might frog it and start again using this wool instead. Decisions, decisions!

I might just have a glass of red to help me decide.

morning ladies :) lol kuaka, I have had 'those' projects in the past and you do get to the stage where you wonder why do I bother!

have a busy day today, dad wants to visit for my birthday, I need to load the borrowed trailer up with all the pruning so I can return it (empty of course lol) and we have an appointment with the curtain people to choose the colour of our new kitchen blind. Think we just have pizza or something for tea, but there is a Thai restaurant here that do takeaways, might give that whirl.

In between I would like to do some more knitting :)

Happy knitting :)

Good Morning eveyrone and HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIWIMADE !!!!

Hope you have an awesome day.. but I suspect the family being home recently was to celebrate your birthday.

Very dull and overcast here. Not terribly warm either. But the lawn boys will be here soon.

Yesterday I went and pulled all the long Kykuyu grass out of the lemon and mandarin trees. And weeded underneath the blackberry and passion fruit vines. We have a lot of pruning to do on both but that can wait till another day. The backs are my legs got a good workout, but not too bad this morning. My back isn't great tho lol.. Took painkillers at 5am and the worst of it has eased.

Have to dig out the baking for my morning tea shout tomorrow. and pop up the road for fresh bread etc to make the rolls.

Think Ill splash out and take a bit of hogget out of the freezer for tomorrow. Can put it in the crockpot early, since Ill be up making the rolls lol

I have three Jelly babies still to sew, lol didn't do anything on them yesterday other than the last two arms.

Have an awesome day everyone

thanks popeye, we did have a bit of a celebration, was nice to just have them home.

Righto, time to head outside before the weather changes. The farmer behind us has offered us the use of his farm, we can take the pruning to his rubbish heap as he is going to burn it over the next few days. Saves us $$$, no rubbish tip fees.

That's handy.. Ive got my weedings in a black rubbish bag. It can cook and shrink in the bag for a while then Ill put a rubbish sticker on it and put it out as rubbish.
I still have to do the ladder fern out the front but that can wait till the end of the week

Morning ladies, happy birthday Kiwimade! Hope you have a fantastic day and don't work too hard.

Well I have made progress on the capelet, as well as doing a few rows on the slipper (it's 2 strands of dk so I can only do a few rows at a time) and discovered that the yarn I've used for the capelet is out of the bag of 10 balls, not just an odd ball that was lurking in my stash, so will continue with it, but if I really like it and find it useful then I might make a second one with the wool I discovered yesterday. I've now done two and a half pattern repeats. I'm not sure that it's going to be long enough to keep me warm, I think I'd like it to be a bit deeper, but I can adjust the length if I decide to do a second one, see how this goes first.

Yes kiwimade having somewhere to get rid of garden rubbish is a big help. We can't burn our rubbish here because we're surrounded with bush, and we have ladder ferns growing through from the section next door. Mr K likes it but I have to remind him that it is on the noxious weed list, and I rip it out when it gets too close to us, and it goes in a black bag too.

When we lived at Waiheke Island we could take all our garden rubbish to the tip for free, except for flax and a couple of other things which I forget. They used to mulch the big stuff, compost the small stuff and sell it back to the public. Was a win-win situation.

Have a good day everyone, especially you kiwimade!

Morning all
Happy Birthday Kiwimade - have a great day.

Good that the capelet is underway properly now Kuaka, so frustrating when things don't go as planned.

We are not allowed to put garden stuff out in the general rubbish so has to go to the dump where the 'green' stuff is made into compost but you still have to pay to dump it although a little cheaper than general rubbish.

Very tired yesterday but had things to do so did not pick up any knitting which is most unusual for me - a very early night has made a big difference and now ready for anything again.

Have a lovely day in all you are doing

Wow Kuaka I didn't know the ladder fern was on the noxious weeds list.. Too late now lol.. its well at home where I put it.
Under the bedroom windows edged by the brick wall of the house and the concrete footpath.
I wanted something to fill the area. Its sure done that lol. I got some from my Uncles place and its grown fast lol..
Needs trimming tho its taking up hallf the footpath

Happy birthday Kiwimade-you are one energetic woman!
Thank-you to ?popeye for mentioning the twiddle muffs-what a fantastic idea. I knit beanies and handwarmers for agencies that help the very needy-all with yarn given to me and I haven't been able to think of what to do with the thicker and fancier yarns-this fits the bill beautifully. I am thinking the knee mats may be suitable for our climate and heated nursing homes and much quicker to do. Might do both and take to a local al....care facility to see which they think best. I consider it "paying forward"! I once started a thread that went for years with regular contributors and never really thought about lurkers but that is me now. People from our thread have met a couple of times in Auckland with people from ChCh and Dunedin and we remain in touch.Enjoy your lives.

yes, popeye, ladder fern is a noxious weed - well at least it is up here, it is possible different councils consider different things weeds. I remember when we lived in Russell and was plagued with blue morning glory, my step-daughter commented on how nice the blue flower looked and how she would like to take some cuttings home for her garden. I laughed and said "it's a weed, and you'll quickly bear the wrath of your neighbours".

kuaka - 2015-05-04 11:31:00
7117

Oops Kuaka.. if I don't look on the council website I wont know lol... Ill do the Ignorance is Bliss attitude.. if they don't like it they can take it out.

We have a council garden on the corner and they park out front of our house to tidy it. So they would see it... Been there a few years. So its either safe here or they don't care.

And since its Auckland council I cant see them rushing to fix it lol

7118

thank you for the kind birthday wishes :) We have dumped two trailer loads of prunings onto our neighbour's farm. It was a lovely gesture on his part to offer it to us. One thing about selling the paddock, I miss my fire pit! I didn't know ladder ferns were noxious weeds either, better check with our council too. Am trying to get rid of the agapanthus and as for the blue morning glory... arrggggg!! is all I'm going to say about that!

Time for some knitting before Dad gets here for afternoon tea. He has new glasses and wants to show them off :)

But have to go out this am to help at Mainly music I "do" the kitchen which I prefer as have something definite to do each week and can organise it how I like. My turn for baking so have made an Apricot and chocolate slice thingy which I know the mothers like although not the best for waistlines.

Missy has been helping, by hooning around like a mad thing lol.

I browned some hogget and put that in the crockpot for tea too. Have my friend coming for that..

I got my ring resized for my birthday Im stoked with that.

Happy birthday popeye, have a lovely day. Gosh I'd already forgotten about the stitch markers. I hope you find them useful when you need to use them.

My afternoon out today, and I need to nip into town this morning to check the mail as I didn't go yesterday. I'm a bit sore today (I sawed up a little more firewood yesterday - not a lot, but the to do heap is dwindling and the done heap is growing) we probably can't use it this winter as it's too green, maybe at the end of winter.

I'm progressing with the capelet and I think I will like it but would prefer it to be a bit deeper, so I will probably make a second one and put more stitches on. It should be easy enough to adjust. I'll put up a link to the free pattern if anyone is interested.

Have a good day everyone, especially you popeye, and you look after yourself carolev and get better soon. I'm booked for a flu jab on Friday. Going to enquire about the shingles jab too as I had chicken pox when I was about 13 or 14 and was so ill I thought I was going to die.

Bye for now.

Morning everyone, Lovely day out there

Well I sure didn't need any rocking last night. I was a tired we bunny lol... Even put my knitting down cos I felt like I was going to make mistakes.

I really wish I could buy some wool, lol I haven't looked in spotlight since before Christmas.. I got a $10 voucher from spotlight for my birthday. I also have a 30% off one to use too. ... Maybe oneday lol.

I still have the ladder fern to do, but that wont happen till after the weekend. The sale is Saturday and I wont be outside with planes buzzing around on Sunday.!

Busyish day today. Have to cut MrP's hair. Wrap some boxes I want to use in the display on Saturday. Type up a phone number list and make copies. Copy another pattern and make copies.

Have a lovely day everyone

morning ladies :) It was very warm last night, even kicked all the blankets off. Went to pull them up when I got cold to find the Furry One had wrapped himself up in them and I had a bit of a battle on my hands lol. In the end he kept the blankets and MrK and I got the duvet. Spoilt dog!

Looks like we're in for some rough weather today but I need to get some painting stuff to my sister as she now has the renovation bug. Will save her buying it, all these things you need add to the cost of the reno.

I watched the program of TV1 last night about the Wahine. Mum had tickets for her, my sister, and I to come home on the Wahine after visiting my grandparents. Granddad wouldn't let her drive from Timaru to catch the ferry as the weather was so awful. Thank God for my Grandfather.

Will be a perfect day for knitting today if the weather turns to rubbish.

Happy knitting :)

Wow Kiwimade Im soo pleased your granddad put his foot down. I didn't see the show, wish I had recorded it.

A couple we knew got married on the day the trained crashed in the central north island.. the name wont pop into my head as yet lol.. Her Mum was meant to be on the train but the weather was bad so she stayed home. so she would most likely have died too...

Was a warm night, but I still woke up with Missy on my hip lol.. She finds that position rather nice I think.

I finished knitting a yellow Jelly baby yesterday.. Will start sewing them up now that I have a few.. I did start a red one, but that was just to keep me awake while tv was still on lol.

Have a good day everyone

Morning

Yes it was a warm night here too and very windy, was up about 5am and noticed the front door wide open, it must not have been latched quite properly and blew open fortunately I have a good security door and that was firmly locked.

Kiwimade what a relief that your Grandfather prevented you all driving that day or things could have been very different. I think the Wahine day is one that is remembered in detail, I was in Auckland at the time and remember listening to the news a lot.

Off to town for haircut and odd jobs, then knitting pm and out for dinner to night as sister's birthday and good excuse to go out for a meal

Have a good day

jayemtoo - 2015-05-07 09:29:00

Morning ladies, I remember the Wahine very well too, although I was still living in England at the time, it was headline news on all the newspapers. And yes, Kiwimade, your grandfather probably saved your lives or at least saved you a lot of trauma. Mr K is a bit like that, he doesn't like me driving in awful weather, and if the weather is really bad, he just puts his foot down and says "stay put - it's not worth the risk".

No plans for today. Usually go to Kerikeri shopping on a Thursday but I'm giving it a miss today, I don't really need any groceries and it's too far to go just to get fish for tea, so we'll have sausages instead (Mr K won't be impressed, but too bad).

I'm making progress on the capelet, but I think it will need 30 pattern repeats rather than 25 - I can't seem to do the pattern without constantly looking at the instructions, it's easy enough, I just can't seem to look at it and know which row I'm on. Frustrating. I've done 15 patterns so far. Think it needs to be a bit longer, so probably will make a second one.

We've had a light shower so far that's all, but I think the worst is coming tonight and tomorrow. It's quite warm. Haven't got the heat pump on, although Mr K would probably prefer it on.

Have a super day everyone. Happy knitting.

The wind is getting up now. And its about 50/50 dark grey cloud and blue sky lol
It can please itself what it does now Im home.

Im going to make some signs for my table at the sale... ohh dam was going to get some feltip pens while I was out... Ill nip up after Ive had my time on here. Cheaper to buy some cheap pens that to buy coloured paper which is what id really like to use. lol

Well I ended up having my 'flu jab today as they phoned and asked could I go this afternoon rather than tomorrow. I asked about the shingles vac and the nurse said she couldn't remember exactly how much it is, but it is very very expensive, she thought around $300 and that included a $55 courier charge to get the vaccine as it has to come refrigerated. She also said it's an annual thing and it's not fully proven (which I thought a bit odd). Never mind. I shall just hope I don't get shingles. At least my bp was better than it's been for ages.

Have a good evening everyone.

Wow that's a lot for the shingles vac.. Ill cross my fingers too Kuaka. Its been a couple of years since I got them. So long as I don't let myself get too run down I should be ok.

Off to the Hall today to set up for the sale tomorrow. Will put the stuff Im taking down in black rubbish bags, don't want it getting wet. Ill go early so I can get a park close to the door too.

Have been soo busy that I haven't been near the needles and wool.. Still all will be over after tomorrow.

Have an awesome day everyone

7138

Good Morning everyone.

Not a good day for ducks today. I hope they stay put on the ground. Its wet and foggy here.. Seldom we get fog.

The day of the sale today. Took us just over 2 hours to set up yesterday. Im happy with my section of blankets, bath mats cushions and covered coathangers. And today is also my last day.

The last couple of weeks has been very hard. Myself and another lady were made to feel like we had stolen bread. After we had been told to help ourselves . And we both went home that day feeling absolutely horrible. And there are 5 of us who are leaving. Being nice on my birthday was easy cos we knew it would be the last club day. And today will be easy cos we can leave with our heads held high.
We are going to start an Elves without a shoemaker group. Will continue to make items to sell, to buy more supplies to start with. Then we will Make to donate, or make sell and donate to charity's. Without all the stupid politics that go with the club.
So yesterday I bought one of the bathmats that the IHC ladies made, as my memory of spending time with them. I will miss them the most.

And heck Ive been soo busy lately that I might even be able to get some more serious housework done, and I still have the fern to trim lol.

Have a fab day everyone

popeye333 - 2015-05-09 07:20:00
7139

morning ladies :) Oh popeye, not nice at all, how awful for you and your friend. Sometimes these 'cliques' get quite closed and narrow minded and don't like new members or change. They get set in their ways and refuse to budge. Not nice at all to be thought of as a thief, so you are better off out of it all. Who needs the drama and stress.

MrK is going duckshooting today with his mate (I know some of you don't like duckshooting), it's the first time in years he has gone and is quite keen. Fog should be lifting soon. I refuse to pluck them, you catch them, you pluck them!

So I'll have the house to myself for most of the day. What to do lol, knitting or sewing, sewing or knitting, or both!

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-05-09 07:33:00

Morning ladies, sorry to hear that the petty politics have spoiled your enjoyment of the club, but it's good that you can set up something yourself. You don't need the nastiness or pettiness in your life that's for sure.

Well it's sunny here with a fog rolling in, so not ideal for the ducks, but I don't think the fog will last long. My first husband used to go duck shooting with a friend of his and I remember one year going out into the sticks with morning tea for them, and one of the kids came tearing past yelling "Aunty Sue's been shot!" and kept going to where the cars were parked. I didn't know if she was dead or alive. Turned out someone in a dinghy had come down the river and fired at the decoys and the pellets ricocheted and hit her in the face in the maimai. She had pellets in her face and lost a couple of teeth, not to mention the shock of it. But when it came to plucking, I didn't mind that so much, but I only ever gutted one duck and nearly threw up. I quite enjoy duck to eat, but not the preparation.

Yesterday was a really miserable day so I did the ironing and made another curtain for our bedroom, one of the long small ones for above the bed, but the cord in the lining pulled out, so today I will re-thread that and then I can hang the curtain. Two down two to go, although I'm thinking that as I have enough fabric, I may as well do another for the one I made the other day (which I made to fit below the window-sill) and make it floor length which will mean making another lining. Will I ever get to the end of the curtain making in this house?

I've done 29 patterns on the capelet, think one more will do it, even though the pattern says 25 - it's a very adjustable pattern, then I might do a second one. Mr K says it looks like a bed-jacket!

Right, cup of tea time (he actually brought me a cup in bed this morning, I was sound asleep and never even heard him get up).

Have a super day everyone - fogs gone already!

A lovely day here and a bit colder overnight so slept a lot better. At this time of the year my mind says it is cold at night but we have been having 17oC temperatures overnight which is too warm for my thinking.

The number of ducks in the park are increasing at the moment so must be shooting season, not sure how they know the date but there always seems to be more ducks around at this time of the year - not that I ever count them lol.

As it is such a nice day I am going to dye more sock wool not that I really need any more but I just want to see how it goes.

Have a good day all

Im home, I think the sale went quite well.. Ive also quit rather loudly as the boss was pushing one of my friends too the max and I very calmly but vocally let her have both barrels.
Their problem , ads she told me, they think we are clicky cos we have soo much fun.. I cant believe they think we are bad for having fun !!!!.

Ohh Yumm I love duck. I don't enjoy the pellets tho lol...These days they seem to take just the breasts and leave the rest, which is a waste and not fair for the birds.

Ive decided that Im going to work towards a stall at the Christmas parade. Whether its our small group or just me I don't mind, Ill be there anyway.

Right a quick play on here and then Ill put my feet up for a while

morning ladies and happy mother's day to all the mums and grandmums :) I don't expect anything from our kids, just a phone call is fine.

Nothing like letting out how you feel is there popeye lol. You go girl! lol. A Christmas stand sounds like fun. I guess the ladies have done their dash when it comes to knitting toys for t heir raffle.

MrK came home with two ducks so he is a happy chappy. The season has been shortened this year as there are fewer ducks.

I figured out how to upload e-books from the library to my Kobo so spent a very happy day uploading a few books and reading. Did a bit of knitting too.

Today I'll be visiting mum at the cemetery and pottering about. Should finish this strip for the throw today, two pattern repeats to do. Then one more strip to do.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone. And Happy Mothers Day to the Mums.

Its a beautiful day out there.. Not good for the duck hunters. Sad MrK didn't get any Kiwimade

I had been asked to knit a toy for one of the daughters at cma too, shes 40 odd and pregnant from ivf. Well they wont be getting anything now.

I will miss the kids tho

We will pop out into the garden this morning and finish pruning the blackberry's.
Then I have to pop up to the shop.

I have 5 knitted jelly baby's done, four ready to stuff, one needs to be sewn then stuffed. So Ill start tackling them this afternoon. I have four more I want to do at least before I take a photo.. I want to have them all sitting in a basket lol.

Well done on the uploading Ebooks Kiwimade. I get mine through Amazon. Havent paid for a single one yet.

Hope everyone has a fab day

Morning ladies, thick fog here this morning when I first got up (hours ago - couldn't sleep) but it's mostly gone now.

I hope to do some gardening today and another small curtain for the bedroom but we'll see how I go.

I finished the capelet and started another, making it slightly longer and the wool must be slightly thicker as it's knitting up much wider too, so I probably only need to do 25 pattern repeats rather than the 30 I did on the first one.

There's a fun run/walk on today which I could have entered. 6km walk or 8km run - my running days are well gone, but I could have easily done the 6km walk, just never got around to entering. Never mind. I walked to town yesterday and enjoyed the exercise so must get a bit more determined and do it more often.

kiwimade, I've uploaded lots of books from "pixelofink" and only ever get the free ones. Most of them are from authors I've never heard of and I've had some that I just couldn't get enthused about, so I just delete them, but I've read some that I've really enjoyed.

Have a super day everyone.

morning ladies :) Thanks for that e book site kuaka, I'll have a good look around it soon.

I went to the cemetery yesterday with dad and my sister, my goodness it was like grand central station, so many people there. Nice though that loved ones are remembered.

Finally got the strip done for the throw, one more to do with 30 repeats. Shouldn't take too long to do and I'll be finished. Might do some sewing today though, need to start working on my fabric stash.

Hope all the mums had a lovely day yesterday.

Have a good one!

Morning ladies, well I had a good day yesterday despite the fact that neither of my kids acknowledged the fact that it was mother's day, no phone calls, no texts, no nothing. Oh well. They know where I am when they want something.

I made the second little curtain for above our bed but haven't hung either of them yet, as I had to wash the linings, so today I will iron them, clean the window and hang them. I've also decided to make new curtains for the little bedroom (I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here as I need to finish our bedroom first) and got the roll of fabric out which I plan to use, just to check it's the right colour etc.

Then I did some gardening, pulled out the tomato plants (and without realising it also a pumpkin which had grown over the fence and had several small pumpkins on) too bad. It's gone now. Then I weeded the veg garden and fertilised it and planted a couple of plants, one on our poor little puss' grave, the one we had to have pts last year.

Then I relaxed and did some knitting. All in all a good day.

Have to go and put petrol in the car today, other than that and hang the little curtains, no plans, but it looks like a lovely sunny day with no wind so far so might go for a walk later.

Have a super day everyone.

Morning everyone.

Turned out to be a nice day yesterday. We have had fog and rain this morning. but it should clear up later, as it usually does after fog.

Housework for me today. Well Ill vac, fold washing and refill our pill trays. The pills take close to an hour to do lol.
I have two jelly babies to stuff.
Then Ill have a break from them, probably do a top down dress. And then get back to the Jelly babies. I still need a pink, apricot and bright green and pale green to make a nice variety.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning

Lovely day here again, but will have to water the new little plants as they are looking a bit droopy.
Had a lovely weekend, niece and fiancé came up as they are planning their wedding here but not till February but so full of ideas and plans!

Went out again for dinner so they too could celebrate my sister's birthday, I probably average about 4 meals out per year and have had that many in a fortnight lol better not get to used to this as kind of thing as a bit hard on the wallet haha - mind you the young ones paid for dinner on Saturday and it was such a lovely relaxing evening well worth it.

Have started knitting some of the wool I dyed on Saturday and although it is much the same dye pattern as I have done before it is turning out a totally different pattern once knitted which makes it interesting to knit.

Now to get the vacuum cleaner out and then outside as just too nice to be inside.

Happy crafting all
