its going to be a great day in Christchurch on Saturday. Morning at the Stamp Fair. I've got some Early Olympic stamps to offer including full sets of the first two Athens Greek sets mint which are super scarce and then later watching the Crusaders attempt to do the Rugby three-peat nearby!

The NZ Stamp Collectors Club of Christchurch holds an evening meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month as well as a day meeting on the first Wednesday of each month. Due to popular demand, the Club has decided to also hold another day meeting every month in Rangiora. These meetings will be held at Five Stags Rangiora (3/29 Huntingdon Drive, Arlington, Rangiora) from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on the third Friday of every month, with the first meeting being Friday 19th July. We would encourage any stamp collectors to come along to this first or any subsequent get togethers in Rangiora and enjoy the hobby.

For those interested, there were 15 keen stamp collectors who attended this first Rangiora Meeting and all are keen for future meetings which will happen each month on the 3rd Friday of the month from 1pm to 3pm. If you turn up at 12 noon and have a gold card you can even get a great meal for just $12 there! Folk from Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Oxford and even one or two who came out from Christchurch were involved.

The fair this Saturday is sure to be popular with a lot of extra people expected in. I'll be bringing along a heap of interesting new acquisitions plus some cartons of unearthed treasures from long ago. A box of old English Seaside humour comic and greetings picture postcards will also be great fun to go through.
See you all on Saturday morning at Manderville Street!

Ahhhhhh, have emerged from the bowels of a closet that has needed clearing for years and came across a folder of old stamps in mint conditions, in sheets, a few cancelled, and "first day of issue" stamps from 1958 to 1988. I know nothing of their value nor how to get rid of them but what intrigued me and I felt I would like to know is at the bottom of a corner set of four unused stamps commemorating the 4c U.S.A. Project Mercury, on the white edging piece are the number 27064. What do they mean? Is that how many were printed or the number printed up to the page they were a part of - or just to stupefy those of us who do not collect stamps? Thanks.

That number will be the sheet number. Most sheets are 10 x 10 stamps these days but back then could have been 20 x 10 as its a horizontal stamp so this is sheet number 27064. that means that it is a common stamp as were all USA stamps of that period and worth about 10 - 20 cents each.

Hope that is what you want to know.

Thanks, kiwisteven - that was interesting. Now to figure what to do with the stamps/stamp box as thy range from as they range from whole sheets of both U.S. and N.Z. commemorative stamps/first day of issue envelopes from the 1960's to about 2000 that I was sent as well as was in a collection of my mother's. While we got rid of the box of stamps that had been clipped off envelopes these sort of interested me more I now feel that others may be more interested in them than I am. Thanks again for letting me know that those numbers meant something.

If you want to sell them, then I see you are in the Wellington district so i could perhaps suggest you contact Mowbrays at Otaki Railway who run big stamp auctions. I'm sure they could handle them for you and will give you a professional service.

I know they aren't worth much [checked on stamp world website], but are they worth more together & how do I get rid of them without destroying them.. after all they have lasted this long..

They are reasonably common for Pipiriki and Pokeno Valley which are both rated 5 (out of 10) for scarcity so a complete strike on just a stamp would be worth $10 or so but more on an envelope if full and nice looking.

I am sorting thru my late Aunts papers - she has saved envelopes with stamps from all over the world over the last 50 or so years. Also lots ripped off envelopes. And some aerogrammes, too with their pre printed stamps as well as stick on ones
How do I go about finding out if they have any value?
thanks
