Lawns to mow this morning and a couple of jobs to do in town. I need two of those screw in things that hold light shades in place on the ceiling. Then I can hang the new light shades I found at Mitre 10 - amazing what is in that shop!

Daughter and her family are coming over the weekend now but still nice to have son home.

Morning ladies, I'm a bit weary this morning. Yesterday afternoon I washed the old Safari - haven't done it for so long and I had forgotten how big it is and how much I struggle to do it. Even standing on the seats and hanging on with one hand, I can't quite reach the middle of the roof or bonnet with the brush. Grumps is going to do the bits I missed. I only hosed and washed it and then hosed it again yesterday. Soon I will shampoo it properly, then polish it and clean up the inside so we can try to sell it. It's 25 years old but only done 165,000km. We've only done 15,000km in the 8 years we've had it.

Shopping today in Kerikeri if I can wake myself up enough to get organised.

Can't wait for my wool to arrive so I can start on my shawlette. I looked at the pattern I've chosen and it starts with "cast on 3 stitches" and work 88 ridges of garter stitch, so 176 rows! Just the opposite of the cast on 600+ stitches one that I liked. Apparently with this one you knit a long strip and then turn and pick up stitches on each of the ridges so you end up with 88 stitches. And if I don't like the way it looks, I'll look for another pattern.

It's partly overcast, sun is trying to shine. I should get up on the roof and clear the guttering before we get heavy rain, but I'm not keen on getting close to the edge of the roof. I'll have to be tied on, especially where the house is 3 stories high. Wish me luck. Might do it this afternoon.

Morning everyone.

All so busy today.. Stay safe when on ladders roofs etc..

Kuaka use a soft broom to do the middle part of the roof of the safari, that what we used to do with the van we had.

Yesterday was such a wash out for me, I felt very drained last night. I slept well tho. Hopefully today will be better.

Shopping this morning and Im making MrP come with me. Will take him to where Gull are putting in a petrol station self serve thingee. I don't like pumping petrol but if its cheaper I will.. but I think it will make the other two drop their prices , so if that happens Ill stick with the one that actually serves people.

Have Jelly babies to sew up today.

Did have to smile at your post popeye, that happens to me as well. Don't see friends for weeks on end, go to the supermarket and they are all there lol.

It's going to be another lovely day here so I'll be pottering outside for a bit. The back yard is slowly but surely starting to look tidy again. MrK has tidied up quite a bit of the timber and has also increased his stash by quite a bit. Want to strip the beds first though and get the sheets on the line.

Daughter and her family arrive today or tomorrow so not sure if I will get some knitting done or not.

Morning ladies, well by the time I got home with the shopping and put it all away and had lunch I didn't feel like getting the safety harness and ropes all rigged up to go up on the roof, so I knitted instead. Now of course we've had rain early this morning so I can't do it till the roof has dried. Never mind.

Carolev keep up the walking, it is so good for you. I miss not going for our walk each day, I guess I could go on my own, but the way Mr K is I don't like leaving him alone more than I have to, and the walk doesn't seem to be essential. Wish he was well enough so we could go for a walk together.

We had our first serving of our second lot of dwarf beans with our tea last night, a total of 6, so 3 each! Heaps more coming on though so that was worth the effort.

Have some sewing to do this morning, then I think I will spend some time crocheting. I've started another mile a minute blanket. (Have to use some of my stash up so I don't feel so bad about buying more!)

Morning everyone

Well done with the walking Carole, I wish I could too. But it just hurts soo much.

Id have liked to have started pruning the ferns in the front garden today , but have baked and am not going to stand any longer.
Two choc cakes and fruit loaves fitted nicely in the oven at once. And now have two banana cakes in there for a few more mins smells lovely.

Went to the drs this morning and she is putting me on insulin. She said I shouldn't have to live how I have been.. So have to test for a week , and go back so we can figure out what dose to start with.. Then I can stop the worst of the meds. Will stay on metformin, but I can handle the small dose of that. YAYAYAY

Will sit and knit today.. Have done 4 Jelly babies so far. And up to the head on another.

morning ladies :) Am just back from the dawn parade, was a lovely clear, crisp morning with lots of stars in the sky.

MrK turned the TV on just in time to see all the poppies crafted by kiwis around the country. WOW! They looked awesome! And there is a memorial book to record the stories that went with the poppies. I didn't know the purple poppies were for the animals that served: horses, dogs, pigeons.

Not sure what I'll be doing today, might sneak some knitting in.

I was hoping to start pruning the ladder fern out the front today. But that aint going to happen.
Had an early night last night and Im soo sore, lol... sleeping is hazardous to my bones.. Had codeine at 3-30 but will take another soon now that Ive eaten.

I have the cakes to ice this morning... Then that's all done.

I have washing in, but that can go in the dryer Ill never reach the lines today. And have some to fold already.

Then Ill knit.

Morning all
Another lovely day here. I didn't make it to the dawn service as I had a very late night.
Hopefully the insulin will make your life a lot more comfortable Popeye.

The garden needs a bit of attention but will see how the day pans out. Have stewed a large pot of feijoas for the freezer and have a lot of granny smith apples on the tree which will also need doing at some stage.

Have just finished putting the sole on a slipper and have to finish the other one and do another pair this weekend so looks like knitting is well on the agenda lol.

Went to Skeinz yesterday for a bit more slipper wool but came away with 5 more lots of sock wool which will need dying first and as it is such a nice day may be able to do one or two this pm. I'm trying to develop a "signature" pattern for my socks of spots and stripes so fun seeing what turns out.

Morning ladies, enjoy the visit kiwimade, the knitting will still be waiting when they've gone. The cuddles are much better.

Very quiet here for Anzac Day, I didn't go to the dawn service - actually I don't think I ever have, but that doesn't mean that it means nothing to me. I watched quite a bit on tv and found it all very emotional, and last night I googled the name of my great-grandfather, and started a family tree. I always understood that my gran had 8 brothers, but can only find 6 listed, one of which apparently died of wounds in WW1 and is buried in a military cemetery in Belgium - something that I didn't know. I always understood that she lost a couple of brothers at sea during the war but maybe that's not right. There was a strange entry which is obviously wrong. It says one brother was born four and a half months after her. I know the birth date given for her is correct, so maybe the brothers birth date is wrong. It also gives my great-grandfathers occupation "tailor" which I knew anyway. Fascinating. I can see me spending a lot of time working on this.

Progressing well with the mile a minute blanket but I still haven't been up on the roof, think I'll have to do the gutters today as we have heavy rain forecast for tomorrow. Fingers crossed I get the knots in the rope tied properly. I'd hate to drop off the edge, it's a long way down to the concrete.

Morning everyone. Another lovely day... If only it could be this temp throughout the year.

I have a relaxing morning, as Ive done all I need baking wise etc. Cakes are all plated up. Will leave shortly before 1pm.. My friend and others went to speedway last night and we have the afternoon tea later today.

Didn't do much knitting at all yesterday. I decided it was time to tidy the kitchen pantry. Took longer than I thought it would , but its all neat and tidy in there.

I fancy some Anzac biscuits, but will try Alison Holsts recipe cos when I use the Edmonds one they end up thick lumps.. But not today tho..

yes popeye, I had planned to do the guttering on Friday but we seemed to have constant showers, as soon as the roof dried it was wet again.

My pantry doesn't only need tidying, it needs new shelves. They are all either sagging in the middle or sloping downwards. It was on the "to do" list before Mr K broke his neck. I said to a friend if he can't do them soon, I'll have to have a go at them - or put "fiddle rails" on them!

ahhh the things we get to do eh kuaka lol. With the MoTH supervising, omg it's frustrating when MrK decides to tell me how to do something. was making soup the other day and he was telling me how to cook it. I reminded him I have been making pea and ham soup for 30 years now so kinda have an idea how to do it!

You are braver than me kuaka, there is no way on God's green earth I would be on the roof or anywhere near it. Heights scare me witless.

Washing is out, some knitting done, and having a cuppa. Will bake the ANZAC biscuits after my cuppa, it's an easy recipe using melted butter, so a 'one pot' mix.

Trouble is kiwimade, where the huge totara has been shedding leaves and bits of twigs, I can see the guttering is blocked, and unfortunately it's at the high side of the house, which is effectively 3 stories high as the basement has a 15 foot stud. If it was the other side of the house I wouldn't hesitate, but I will need Mr K to assist with tying me on.

Well ladies, mission accomplished. Four buckets full of "gloop" now no longer clogging up the guttering. Course when I'd done the first side and started on the second side, I could see I'd missed a couple of bits on the first side, but to go back meant re-doing all the ropes, so I decided it was better than it had been, and what was left can wait till next time.

Once I was up there I was fine, (as long as I don't look too much at all that concrete so far below me) but it's not as bad as being hauled up the mast on the yacht - now I've done that once and it really did freak me out.

Cuppa now, then a shower followed by a glass of red - I think I've earned it.

Just so relieved that it's done. Next thing is to paint the roof!

We have had a lovely party. Friend and I did the first shift, until people started arriving, then another close friend of hers took over the drinks and clean up side. All went very smoothly

She got some lovely presents and it was neat cos people who were at her 21st were there for her 50th too. Got some lovely pressies.. Which are all here. Cos shes moving next weekend so rather than take them home and get lost in the move they are here for safe keeping. And she included me, by telling them about what they did at her 21st.. Her mum made a cake for me, so it was lovely for us both.

We are all worn out now tho.. so time for a play on here and then an early night I reckon.

Sounds like we've all had a pretty good day then, I'm just so relieved to have done the guttering. And now I'm pretty determined to paint the roof, but instead of using Mr Ks safety harness and having to adjust it to fit, I plan to make one for me (I made his - just need a smaller one). And we need to find the usual length of rope that we use (which we couldn't find today because I suspect it's out on the boat) so we had to join ropes, but that's okay - Mr K said to use a "single sheet bend", so that's what I did, even though I had planned to used a "bowline". Oops!

Going to do some crochet now if I don't nod off. Night all.

The Whirlwind is busy running round, omg she is full of beans lol. The Furry One is watching from the top of the couch from a safe distance.

I really admire your efforts Kuaka both on the roof - I don't like heights and the knots - I never could master them when I went to Girls Brigade much to the frustration of the leader lol.

What fun Kiwimade with the little one around - never a dull moment with little ones about.

Overcast but not actually raining here and quite mlld so will go ahead and felt the slippers once I put the last sole on the final pair, they have double soles so really thick on the bottom. Hope to get one pair dry by the weekend as nieces partner really wants a pair and he is wearing hers and stretching them out of shape. Like to do several pairs at a time when felting I used to do a lot and have on hand but now do it as requested by family.

Morning everyone..

Warm, wet and windy here.. nearly a winters day.. Just need some cold now lol.

Lol at the furry one being on the back of the couch Kiwimade, hes worn out I bet lol.

I only know the granny knot and that's about it. I do other knots but don't know if they have names lol.. MrP used to be a scout leader so he knows them, if he hasn't forgotten.

Friend and I slept like logs so have creaky bones this morning. Both agree a cooked breakfast would have been nice. so I had my banana and weetbix, she had tea and toast lol... No one to cook it for us lol

Have to pop up and get our prescription this morning and a rubbish sticker from supermarket.

Im in the mood to bake again so I might get a double batch of fruit loaves in the oven, for the CMA sale. Easy enough to do. Cheap to make too. Then Ill do something more fancy the day before.

Didn't knit at all yesterday. I have a jelly baby to sew up so will do that later.

Evening ladies. I was so pleased that it rained heavily all morning as it reinforced my belief that the time spent on the roof yesterday was not only justified it was necessary, but this afternoon I couldn't understand why I was so sore between the shoulder blades, till I remembered what I'd done yesterday. Nothing like using muscles that aren't normally used to give you a few twinges.

Spent half the afternoon making the lining for new bedroom curtains, but ran out of puff before I attached the lining to the curtain, so the plan is to do that tomorrow and hang it. That's one new curtain, 3 more to go. I seem to spend half my life making curtains.

I wonder if the wool I ordered will arrive tomorrow - I hope so, but I would like to finish the blanket I'm making before starting on my shawlette, so I had better get on with it.

morning ladies :) Yep, I know that stiffness kuaka but think of it as a 'good' kind of stiffness as I've been working the muscles as well as achieving something. Cleaning out gutters is a necessary evil, we had new gutters put on as the house was being painted and we have no dripping or leaking gutters. Fantastic lol, can walk outside without being drenched! And the rain water runs easily into the rain water tank. I use the water in that tank for the garden when we have water restrictions.

Daughter and her wee family are leaving today sometime, the house will be very quiet without them.

Will get some knitting done today I think after the housework and floors are washed.

I knitted a whole Jelly baby yesterday. So am taking that to sew up to club today. Have to say Im not enthused about going today, I don't know why. Well I do, some of the "politics" gets you down some time. but it will be good to be on our Norty table, we always have fun.

Looks like another windy day with showers Im guessing.. Certainly not cold tho. Had the fan back on again last night.

Morning ladies, lovely sunny morning here and not cold although Mr K has the heat pump on, he really feels the cold, more than I do. He was up before me for the first time in ages, so he brought me a cup of tea in bed, no toast though. Obviously need further training!

My afternoon out at mah jong today, but my offsider who normally collects the money and ticks off on the attendance sheet who is going to be here next week is absent for 3 weeks, (lucky thing she's on holiday) so I have to do it and my usual sort out where everyone sits but that's okay. I'll cope. Everyone usually mucks in and helps, but we have discovered that we need one person to just collect the money otherwise we're always short - you'd have to wonder at someone neglecting to pay when it's only $2 a session - except this week it's going up to $3. Still not a fortune for an afternoons entertainment and afternoon tea provided.

I will nip to town this morning, can't wait to see if my wool has arrived.

Afternoon
Beautiful day here Si I am really smiling. Felted 4 pairs of slippers yesterday despite it raining and sp pleased I did as they are outside and drying - will take several days but a good start.

That is a lovely photo kiwimade - both in their own little worlds lol.

Also yesterday I finished a vest for one year old so felt I had achieved something on a holiday. Now back to socks as to knit up what I dyed previously before doing more but not sure I will be strong willed enough especially if this good weather lasts.

morning ladies :) Well done on getting the felting done jayemtoo, do they have to dry naturally or can you put them under a heatpump or in a drier to hurry the process along? I suppose natural drying would be better in the long run.

The house is very quiet and the Furry One is moping about as he does when everyone goes home.

Back into knitting the throw, about a third of the way up the centre panel. The yarn is slippery to knit so the stitches fall off the needles easily, great when cabling.

I can imagine how quiet your place will be Kiwimade
Tend to use whatever I have around to help the slippers dry, don't have a dryer but that would probably knock them out of shape. I did use my little hair dryer to help dry the insides until it blew up last evening with quite spectacular lot of smoke - it was rather old. It is a lovely sunny and breezy day so they are hanging outside.

Need to get outside while it is so nice and tidy up the garden a bit.

Wild and woolly day out there. Have had oodles of heavy rain through the night.

MrP is still in bed, unfortunately with me being up for two hours with my tummy it kept him awake too. so hes hoping on catching up. No chance for me.
Ive got some posters to add some colour to for CMA, then if it does fine up Ill take some around the shops for advertising.

Had very tired gritty eyes last night, but did manage the sewing up of two jelly babies, will stuff and finish them later today.

Poor furry one, hes missing his playmate.

Not good re the hair dryer Jayemtoo. If you have fly buys they are generally cheap points wise on there.

morning ladies :) We had an awesome storm last night, looks like a knitting day today too.

The phone went last night around 9.30pm - thought the worst that something had happened to dad of course but it was MrK's cousin. Her friend has written a book about his uncle's escapades in WW2. He was a saboteur in Greece and blew up bridges to stop/slow down the Germans so the Allies could advance. So today we are going to phone the book's author and see if we can buy a copy. MrK is really excited, he has heard stories about his uncle and there are one or two books around mentioning his uncle but not a whole book about him.

Have a look at the thread about Twiddle Muffs in the craft section ladies.. They sound interesting. When mum was in ICU they gave her toys to play with, cos she wouldn't stop moving her hands.. Till we figured out she was "sewing" , Many years ago she used to do the hand detailing on suits for Anthony Squires in Hamilton. She went right back there in her mind.

But these muffs sound like a brilliant idea

morning ladies :) We've got a frost this morning, the car is covered in ice. It seems our little road is the perfect road for breaking down in, a young woman's car broke down last night and she coasted into our road to get off the main highway. Was dark and she was on her own so safer this way. She managed to get a ride home and the towie will be here today to tow her car away. We often have breakdowns, flat tyres or lost travellers here.

I'll be outside today, been cooped up inside for two days now and need to get out. Will start pruning some of the bigger shrubs then knitting this afternoon.

Morning everyone.

No frost but a nice clear day. And wouldn't you know it, the first morning to have condensation on the windows and I don't have time to use my Karcher to clean them off lol

Mind you there will be more later. Off to the drs this morning to go onto insulin..

But Ive been up and put a ham hock and loads of veges into the crockpot. So a "stoup" for MrPs tea. It wont have soup mix in it. But Ill take the ham out later and pull it off the bones and it will be soo thick with meat and veges that its too thick for soup and not thickened like Stew,,, hence "stoup"
So there will be more condensation when I get home.. Yippee lol

I walked town yesterday putting flyers in shop windows, so am still sore. My back does not like hard pavements. Ill be hobbling into the drs rooms lol

Knitted a pink Jelly Baby yesterday... Ill do a red one next and make two up at the same time. It flows better that way.

morning ladies :) It's a tad overcast here, hope the rain holds off as I need to mow the lawn. MrK sprayed it with that weed 'n feed last weekend and I've had to wait a week to mow.

It's my birthday Monday and I've already bought my birthday pressie lol, a metal 'picture' of poppies for the side of the pump shed. Looks awesome, especially when the sun sets as it's all oranges and browns. Must be my latest colourway as I'm knitting brown and plan on knitting orange next.

Almost finished the centre panel for the throw, two more repeats of the pattern and it will be done so will finish it today.

Morning ladies, cold here but sunny. Condensation on a couple of the windows, but that won't take me long to clean off with my "Euro-cloth" (I think that's what it's called).

Might have to do the vacuuming this morning, and the wee patch of lawn that I mow needs doing, and there is firewood to cut, it's only branches from where we had the trees trimmed, so nothing very thick, but it will still add to the firewood pile, but it's hard work so I am doing it a bit at a time. Did a little yesterday till I ran out of puff.

I received some of the yarn I ordered the other day, it's beautiful and soft, but I'm just wondering if I can actually cope with knitting lace-weight yarn - I guess I'll have to make an effort seeing as I ordered 3 lots because I couldn't decide which colourway I preferred. Might have to sell some of it if I can't get the tension right.

I finished my "mile-a-minute" blanket, but I still have the 10 stitch zig-zag one to complete. I am going to try to wrap up some of my ufo's before I tackle anything big again. That's the plan, course it might not happen that way.
