Morning all,
a bit of a shaky night here ... tremors right through the night didn't make for a good sleep.
I'm at Mr D's - we've finished cleaning up the mess in his house & I'll go check on mine again later.
Because I'm right on the edge of central city, power was still out at my apartment last night.
Atleast I have somewhere to go - there are many people worse off than me!
Getting quite stormy here now - not good timing!
Not sure about 'fizzy' tea Di ... but maybe you start a new fad :)
Stay safe everyone, Rae

Hello.. am thinking of you all down there.. sounds like many areas have power back on, many still without though..

Those aftershock quakes feel so much worse at night.. in some ways kinda worse than the original quake because they keep happening and happening.. and not knowing whether a big one will happen again doesn't help with the stress either..

Take good care..

LOL Rae actually the fizziness disappeared when boiled which is a good thing..theres enough shaking going on around me without it happening inside me as well. We have been badly hit here in spencerville but everyones positive and supporting each other. Each day brings a new perspective. Cheers Di

Morning all,
we have woken to wall-to-wall sunshine here in Chch which certainly lifts the spirits.
Had a night by myself in my apartment last night & managed to sleep on & off till 10am.
The aftershocks have continued right through the night ... and I have a bag packed and waiting in the hall in case I need to run for it.
I think it'll be there for a while yet!!!
Mum is fine thanks Pam. Very jumpy like me ... but so are most folks around here I think.
Going to go have a 'basin' wash now ... looking forward to a real shower again :)
Keep smiling everyone, xxx

You take care Charlie.. Winnie.. neil_di and all other cantabrians...

I feel so helpless up here.... I don't remember an event of such scale to be honest. My friend is an insurance assessor and expects to be succonded there very shortly.

It must be a logistical nightmare, what to they fix first with the resources they have.... Hope you have water soon....

I will sort out some Nepalese shower and toilet photos to make you feel a little better.

This is what you stand on under the water that is gravity fed from the roof.

Morning,
after another night from hell I'm about ready to leave town!!!
Big aftershocks right through the night ... I'm tired & jumpy & frazzled!

5.4 twice its going to be so much better when they stop it must be awful bracing yourself for those all the time - I feel heartfelt for you but useless at the same time!! hubbys on the way down he has been on laptop and phone past midnight last two nights his warehouse has severe damage but got to get it fixed and supply to the people,

Several really big aftershocks overnight. I think I'm getting quite blase about them during the day but at night I seem to fling myself awake, heart pounding. Think I'll go to Mitre 10 and invest in more of the rubbery stuff that grips things on shelves and some more blutak. Hope everyone has services restored today - good hot shower after a disrupted night does help. Sadly the one place at my waork that is not able to be repaired is our memorial hall, which has memorials to students to died at war and in accidents since. Its always been a special little place to those of us who've been associated with Lincoln for a long time. Oops - that was another good one!

And apparently we're not having as many aftershocks as would be expected but it doesn't feel like that!!! Lots of people are complaining that they felt fine the day after but are now starting to twitch at every little shiver. Classic shock reaction I suppose but it's probably good that so many workplaces are closed giving us time to get ourselves back together. Pity the poor people who had to get straight back to work to keep the essentials going.

I refuse to call them aftershocks .If they were an isolated event it would be an earthquake 5.4 is so scary. I am tired and find myself thinking when will the next one happen..they seem so much worse when you are in bed and it's dark..obvious that fear has replaced the adrenalin loaded shock. Thank you Pam for the hint about rescue remedy..going to get some today. Cheers Di

Thanks Pam - I know this is all 'normal' ... knowing doesn't help my nerves each time the building starts shaking & rocking again though.
Will venture out for some rescue some stage today.

If anyone without power needs laundry done, or a casserole that can be heated on a primus let us know? I feel q2uite guilty that we had it so easy.

I've been thinking of you charlie. Glad your shower was wonderful. I'd love a deep, hot bubble bath. I never lost the water connection, it's just that the need to conserve is greater than my selfih desire *sigh*

Know a 'little' of what you Canterbury lot are going through. Felt the 5.2 here in CHB yesterday morning. Don't usuallly feel them in our house, but that was a good one for us. We have family just out of Darfield so keeping in touch with them, luckily no damage there, well not much. Nerves are getting a bit frayed like everyone else. However, take care and be careful out there.

I can't stop shaking!!!
I've abandoned my apartment and am at Mum's house.
Chimney collapsed this morning, roof has shifted and neighbour is wearing my guttering!
What a nightmare we are living through here ...

Morning everyone,
we've had a better sleep here. Only awake a few times instead of half the night.
Nerves still pretty frayed though.
Can't speak highly enough of Bob Parker & the team working tirelessly to hold our city together.
Going to go have a look at my apartment soon - it's not raining so hopefully the chimneys can be cleared today & the damage assessed.
Part of me would like to be able to go home but I'm also scared to be alone & upstairs if we start shaking again.
Have a good day all. Kia kaha xxx

Hi Everyone.. thinking of you all there in the Canterbury area.. sending good thoughts and strength..

You'll have seen Tixy posting in 'Recipes' at times.. I've got an email back from her - their home is just 3 km from the epicentre, and has a lot of damage.. they're living elsewhere. Keep strong Tracy..

We had damage in the Edgecumbe earthquake - not a comparison at all with what is happening there for you all.. apart from through Red Cross, I wish I could be of help in someway..

Hugs.. heartfelt hugs..

Pam.. I just saw your post of the Magical Orange Cake recipe - smiley_cherub first shared that here in 'Recipes'..

I just thought.. she's in Christchurch too.. her feedback page shows she hasn't been in Trademe for a while.. does anyone know how she is?? I really hope all is well for her there..

Edited - I've just emailed Dot - smiley_cherub - an email address from a couple of years ago.. hopefully I'll hear back from her.. and that someone here knows how they are..
