6901 | Christchurch based "N.Z.Stamp Collectors Club" have their meeting tonight (Wednesday 22nd November) at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville St, Riccarton. The programme is two fold. A talk and display on "Police on Stamps" by recently retired Police Sargeant Barry McKay who has collected this topic for many years. He is a great speaker so it will be a fascinating and enjoyable talk for sure. The other event is our Stamp Club Auction with 50 no reserve lots going under the hammer. Viewing of the lots can be done from 6.45pm to 7.30pm. The talk and display will take 30 minutes and after a short break the auction will start. This should finish by 9pm when supper will be available for all. We also have other silent displays, a raffle etc so all good fun. Everybody is welcome to come along and attend and enjoy the philately. kiwisteven - 2017-11-22 13:26:00 |

6904 | Anyone following what is happening with Stanley Gibbons in the UK ? last trade @ close - 1 Dec 2017 - 3.75 pence a share then there is this - http://www.stanleygibbons.com/investment/ "Nick Vermeulen and Zelf Hussain, of PricewaterhouseCoopers CI LLP and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP respectively, were appointed joint administrators of Stanley Gibbons (Guernsey) Limited on 21 November 2017, (the Joint Administrators) to manage its affairs, business and property as agents without personal liability. The Joint Administrators are authorised to act as insolvency practitioners in Guernsey by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales." http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/news/market-news more discussion on Stampboards on this too ! 6905 | Note that this administration refers to SG Guernsey, which promoted the stamp investment programme, and not SG itself. However, SG London is owed over 6 million pounds by their branch, which is obviously a concern. tmg wrote: dunedinstamps - 2017-12-04 07:59:00 |
6906 | AUST POST adds CUTS in new stamps: This is going to be very bad news for collectors of 2017 Australia onwards, as trying to remove the newer Aust Post 'vandalised' adhesive values from paper will likely result in high casualty rates. Most collecting Australia will know that Sheet values are at times scarce -- this will likely now apply to also finding respectable used self adhesive values as well in the future. This would appear a repeat of what happened with GB Queens Head values with the oblong perforated slots in more recent issues. "Australia Post have now added “micro-cuts” to new issue stamps released in self-adhesive booklets. The first such issue was the June 7, 2017 $1 Lions Club Centenary issue. These “micro cuts” within the stamp design already are present in the alleged “Priority” labels as many readers may realise. This interesting new development is outlined in the new Stamp Bulletin of “July/August 2017”. Australia Post believes these slits will "improve the adhesion" of the stamps (huh?!) and also says it will make it “harder to re-use stamps that have escaped cancels.” As a vast % of letter mail these days receives no cancels, it seems bog obvious to me that if the PO did their job, and ensured mail got a cancel, they’d not need to mutilate our attractive Commemorative stamps." https://glenstephens.com/snjuly17.html Edited by tmg at 1:56 pm, Mon 4 Dec tmg - 2017-12-04 13:53:00 |
6907 | Goodness only knows how these recent attempts at combating reuse of unpostmarked stamps will go. Why they don't simply cancel or postmark the stamps to prevent this is stupid and shows a lack of common sense. Postmarking stamps has worked perfectly for over 170 years. Of more worry long term is the forged stamps eminating from China (and elsewhere) which are flooding the American and British stamp market for cheaper stamps for postage use. No doubt we might eventually see this type of thing turn up in New Zealand. The British odd shaped perforations seem so far secure against this type of forgery but really the Postal Authorities and the Police really need to take action against this postal fraud or it will continue to be profitable for these crooks. Ebay where so many of these fraudulent stamps are sold thru is also at fault. kiwisteven - 2017-12-04 21:33:00 |

6931 | The Timaru Philatelic Society's 90th Birthday weekend in Timaru went off very well with a good turn out at the fair with lots of business done by the dealers present, both buying and selling and also lots of free valuations appraisals done including about 20 to 30 by myself as a result of the great publicity in the Timaru Herald Newspaper. That evening the Society had a special 90th Birthday Dinner at the Seven Oaks Reception Centre with about 60 people attending including Local MP's (2), A representative of the Mayor, two newspaper reporters, Simon Allison from NZ Post, Bob Gibson from the NZ Philatelic Federation and myself from the NZ Stamp Dealers Association to commend the Society on its past and to wish it well for the future. The Timaru Society has always had a keen involvement with the hobby and was one of the foundation members back in 1946, kiwisteven - 2018-02-26 00:08:00 |

6937 | Hi, I started collecting stamps as a child as many of us did, but haven't maintained the interest in the last 15years, I'm now looking at moving overseas and am not sure whether it's still worth keeping all my albums (which are a bit shambolic). My kids are not interested, and I don't want to tow them around with me. So... my question is... Is there still value in stamps and are people still interested in collecting them? hilding - 2018-03-21 10:03:00 |
6938 | Impossible to tell without some information. It really depends on how serious you were when collecting. Did you complete sets? did you spend any money or are what you have from cheap stamp packets only. You really need to show them to a reliable person for their opinion. As I see you are from Whakatane I susgest you contact the Whakatane philatelic Society care of A W Fletcher-Cole Hall, 15 Mcgarvey Road, Whakatane kiwisteven - 2018-03-23 23:05:00 |
