THE NEW COIN CLUB

#Post
6901

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again

I do wish he'd post a photo of the actual uncirculated coin rather than just a generic pic of a rubbish one he found on the net somewhere.

I always worry about those cheap Chinese holders you buy for a couple of cents (6-15 cents ea) direct from china.

Love this Q on the coin lol
"This is an uncirculated silver coin from N.Z in 1933" Is this a joke? A worn tyre has seen less circulation that this. puckles 11:01 am, Sun 13 Sep

Hey guys, long time no see. Random question, did a second 2006 20c on a copper coloured planchet ever surface?

Some places on the list stretch the definition of "real coins" a little, if they only issued local tokens (Lundy; Hutt River Province) or NCLT. Somewhere I have one of the Danish type coins issued for the Faeroe Islands during WW2 but working out where I put it will be the hard part ...

I thought I had booked marked a page, I understand there is a New Zealand website that will give you a free quote on what your coins may be valued at, if you email them a pic? Anyone know this site?

Not sure if this question is allowed, , but if I was too list this coin here, would it fair to list it as "Fine to good condition" Or am i way off.

Avoid terms like "good" when talking about coins - "Good" has a specific and very misleading meaning and is used to describe coins that are so worn there is very little detail left (I think the origin lies in "a *good* amount of wear", though "very good" describes a slightly better coin, not a worse one - go figure).

Thanks for the advice, Guess its best not to describe the coin, and I should let the picture speak for it?

Clear pictures will usually tell the story where coins are concerned, given that the grading terms tend to be used so loosely as to be meaningless without a supporting image anyway :-)

Interesting that it's made by Stokes - the three-part design layout looks like some of the NZ medals by our friend Bob Gillam.

Just watched an old episode of pawn stars, a guy had a signed five dollar new zealand note from edmund hillary he wanted 250 bucks for it.

The owner of the store, Rick, told him , Hillary signed 1000s of them, and ended up paying the guy $235 dollars.

Fair price??

Sounds plausible - I'm told they can go for anywhere between $100 and $500 depending on provenance (third-party information, I haven't followed them myself). I'd be surprised if Sir Ed literally signed *thousands* of them, though.

I'm with you - there's wear to a lot more than just the highest points. Leave the dreamers to it.

Afterthought: but with inflationary US grading, anything is possible. It could well pass for VF in the Red Book these days.

Well, F was not an option in the catalog he looked in, so obviously his must be better than that. There's no way the catalog people could be sending a message about the relative value of a F coin, is there?

Without looking in the Red Book, I'd say even F is being generous.

Hi Chefman, how ya doing?
Queen gives them away every Easter to the poor (well not any more the poor). I think she gives away one set for every year of her reign.
