I double checked with Matt Power this afternoon and he assures me he will turn up this time and man his stand . He says he has been busy preparing for it! I'll certainly be there!

END OF HEALTH STAMPS:

2016 looks like the last issue that NZ Post will be producing of these

From NZ Post release:

" In 1929 New Zealand Post worked with Children’s Health Camps - now Stand Children’s Services (Stand) - to create an annual stamp issue to help New Zealand’s most at risk children.

Each issue had a different theme, with the aim to educate all New Zealand children and their families about good health. A donation from the sale of each stamp provided critical funding for the Children’s Health Camps across New Zealand.

In recent times, mail volumes have been in decline and this has been reflected in the number of Children’s Health stamps sold. Unfortunately, this has led to it no longer being financially viable for New Zealand Post and Stand to administer this stamp issue.

As a result, this annual stamp issue will no longer be continued, however New Zealand Post will continue to support the great work that Stand does by other means. September 2016 was the last date of issue for Children’s Health Camp stamps, however this issue is still on sale here until 6 September 2017.

Stand’s services continue to provide nationwide reach across the country. They are more intensive and specialist than ever before and now work with children in the context of their family, school and community. With ongoing funding from government and national supporters, Stand has the resources and funding at its disposal to improve life outcomes for our vulnerable children and their families through acting now to put these young lives on a positive trajectory."

That's a shame as I collect health stamps and there have been some attractive issues over the years and some not so attractive.
I don't suppose this will stop NZ Post issuing a plethora of stamps commemorating every little thing under the sun though.

I recently found some joined pairs but used.
As these are seemingly not too common, would the value be at best a % extra of used ?

No doubt Neville will be organising those great coffees from the Coffee shop a couple of doors along so what more could we want. A great warm environment, lots of stamps to go through, great stamp friends and a coffee of any kind!

Hi Sonns,
You can go along to the Oamaru Library and take a look at the Stanley Gibbons "Stamps of the World" stamp catalogue and you will find a good listing of Indian stamps giving current catalogue values.

Thanks. I have inherited a collection as well as an accumulation of stamps from everywhere and it's hard knowing where to start. I didn't realise the library held catalogues.I will definitely check that out.

Its sure to be a popular event this weekend with poor outdoor weather expected so its great to be inside in a warm comfortable environment discovering lots of stamps to fill gaps in a collection. I'm taking along a 10 volume collection of israeli stamps so that's something a bit different!

For those interested, The Christchurch stamp fair on Saturday was good with lots of folk turning up early including quite a few new faces. The 10 cents per stamp table was always crowded and i even saw Chalon Stamps table busy with 4 or 5 customers at one time. I managed to get some good buys and yes, I even managed to sell the 10 Volume Israeil stamp collection so that lightened the load going home!

Impossible to tell from the info you provide. Value doesn't relate to the age of a stamp collection but rather on what stamps are in it. Are the sets complete, in good or poor condition. what countries etc? There is a regular stamp fair held in the East Coast Bays so I'd suggest you take it there for an appraisal.

The Timaru Stamp Fair on Saturday will see the issue of a special 2017 Last of an era Health stamp FDC with only 100 FDC's being issued. If you want one then come along to the Timaru Stamp fair otherwise you will have to take your luck with some probably being offered on Trademe the following day.

Ok team; what was the hidden value in this one ?

Cannot have been the Year Books - so what was possibly special about the First Day Covers - if that was what they were - at top right ?

I'd suggest there was no hidden value and the price was a bit over the top but you have to realise the buyer and the seller were both Invercargill based so the convience of being able to pick up may have helped. Perhaps they got to view the lot before the sale finished?

Christchurch Stamp Fair goes from strength to strength. Yesterday's stamp fair was very busy with lots of visitors from out of town attending with several here for other school holiday events in Christchurch checking out the stamp fair especially because we had a wet Saturday morning (Great for stamp collecting) I Saw keen collectors i knew from Timaru, Marlborough, Wellington, Wanganui, Auckland and even Whangarei present along of course with our regular Christchurch collectors. Several of the stand holders now have use of mobile credit card devices so this is also making things easier for collectors.

Most will be aware, but for all you stamp enthusiasts in Wellington, you might like to check out the Mowbray auction on Saturday if only to see 4 Chch Exhibition clarets (3 of them on a cover...), a 3d HMS Vanguard and a block of 40 Health Teddy Bears go under the hammer.

There's viewing on Friday and Sat morning if you don't want to accidentally bid :-)

I guess it was only a matter of time, but a set of of fake 1931 Red & Blue Boys were recently sold on Trademe. See closed listing 1422733105. These and other similar fantasy type Red & Blue Boys turn up on Ebay from time to time, but are generally stamped "copy" on the back. The same vendor also had one of the fantasy sets for sale, see 1406548527, but these did not have "copy" on the back either.

It can be a real problem for collectors if purchasing on line from a seller who chooses to offer such things not worrying about their reputation. Any overprinted stamps also often turn up with forged overprints such as the 1958 "2d Stars" error stamp and the Victoria Land and King Edward V11 land stamps which are often seen forged. I had a "2d Stars" with forged overprint offered to me just yesterday. With these stamps only ever buy from a reputable dealer who can back up what they are selling as genuine. If you see something suspicious on trademe put a note on this noticeboard and I and others can take a look at the lot.

We had a really busy stamp fair in Christchurch this morning with lots of folks there. Several new Chinese buyers spending well and the mobile credit card machines were busy. All the dealers seemed to be busy most of the morning. Next Saturday's stamp fair (28th October) will be in Invercargill organised by the Southland Philatelic Society but more details later.

"INVERCARGILL STAMP & POSTCARD FAIR" this Saturday 28th October from 10am to 4pm at the Age Concern Centre, corner Nith & Forth Streets, Invercargill. Organised by the Southland Stamp Club and attracting Dealers and collectors from around the South Island for both buying and selling. Free admission to all. (3 of the leading Christchurch dealers will be present as will some from Dunedin as well as several locally organised sales tables.) This is the main Invercargill stamp fair this year so don't miss out.

The INVERCARGILL STAMP & POSTCARD FAIR on Saturday 28th October was reasonably attended by the usual lot of Southland Stamp collectors but not so many general public as usual. The main problem was the splendid weather; warm, sunny and no wind meant most Southlanders were out in their gardens, at the beach or attending several other big Invercargill events that day. None-the-less some reasonable business was done by stall holders and contacts made with collectors. Very little demand however for old picture postcards. A lot of enquiries for GB, Canada plus earlier New Zealand stamps.

I sell and buy lots of old postcards in Christchurch and took some nice Southland ones down to Invercargill but sold very few. I do have quite a few good postcard customers in Southland including in Gore, Winton, Te Anau, Queenstown, Bluff and even on Stewart Island but not it seems in Invercargill. Either that or they mostly were out at the beach as it was such a warm day.

It will be great to be back at the Philatelic Centre in Christchurch. I have a nice lot of old Christchurch Picture Postcards to offer first time up.I know one of the other stand-holders has some unique NZ maxi-cards to sell and no doubt there will be many other bargains and special deals on offer. i'll be there for sure. even if I have to come in from the Blenheim road end of Mandeville Street because of the roadworks. If you approach Mandeville street from Riccarton road you will see roadworks have closed off that end of the Street but if you go down Picton Avenue which is the next street along Riccarton Road to the West you only need to go down Picton Avenue and take the first turn to the left and you will soon be in Mandeville st. Ah those wonderful roadworks!..
