morning ladies :) Great suggestions up there ^^^ carole :). MrK's family is coming for lunch to 'see the house'. Kitchen cupboards are off, draw handles off, light shades down, walls half painted. I think they will see more than they bargained for lol. Not good timing but what was good timing was the rain last night. Gutters and the house painter finished lunchtime yesterday! House looks awesome, we are both pleased as punch with it. I will take pics when the weather clears and show you the 'before and after'. I'll be taking son home after lunch so won't be knitting until after dinner. Hope your wrist is improving popeye, I would be going bonkers by now! happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-12 07:47:00
Morning everyone. The wrist is improving, still cant lift much with it, like not even a dinner plate with a meal on it. And its ok with straight up and down movements, but as soon as it twists its bad. I knitted a square yesterday, only 32 stitches tho. Can anyone please tell me what my bank number is to login online lol.. I am having a total blank and cant remember how it starts. I know the last few numbers... Ill have to ring the bank later. Thankfully grocery money will have been transferred over. But I do still pay a few things manually, but have to transfer the money into another account to take it out and bank it into my kiwibank which is fastest for payments. I was sure I had it written down as a random number with no description for safetys sake but Its not in the books I normally do it in..OOOPS. Taking MrP up for a diabetes annual check up with the nurse this morning and Ill do my INR again since it was bad last week. Kiwimade I was very down on the weekend with my wrist. I decided I had to knit no matter what, and it lifted my spirits. Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2015-03-12 08:04:00
morning all. no rain here yet still feeling down off back to bed to knit carolev - 2015-03-12 08:13:00
Morning all Still not enough rain to really count - had a few spots overnight but only seems to have made it muggy without doing any good. Not good forgetting your password Popeye but know exactly how that happens we seem to need so many of them these days, I have a bit of a system of secretly recording them so hope I manage to remember most of them. I'm sure Mr Ks family will be very impressed with all your effort Kiwimade - if not give them a kick in the shins accidentally on purpose over lunch lol! Plodding on with the socks they don't seem to be growing very fast this time but probably because I've been getting distracted with other things. have a good day jayemtoo - 2015-03-12 11:28:00
Afternoon ladies. What a couple of days I've had. Went out to the boat yesterday expecting to be home lunchtime or early afternoon, but there was a delay getting me to the boat, worked like a slave and then I couldn't be picked up till after 5pm so was 6 before I got home, and Mr K wasn't well - and I'd got a parking ticket to boot. First one I've had for about 30 years and very unexpected. Anyway long story short, Mr K is in hosp, had a stroke last night, ambos were very good and persuaded him he should go to hosp to get it sorted even though he kept saying he wanted to die in his own bed. He only went 'cos I promised I would follow the ambulance so even though I said last time that I would have been better off staying home and going in the morning, I went last night and got there about 11pm - so much for my much needed early night. So it was after 3 they admitted him so at 4am do I drive all the way back home (an hours drive) or find somewhere to stay. They offered me a room at The Whanau House for $15 a night, but all the rooms had been taken, but I could have a bed in the "open area" for $10. Or I could go to a nearby motel for $85. I wouldn't have minded paying $85 but not at 4am. So I took the $10 option, and it was fine, there were 4 single beds and a cot at one end of the room, and another 4 single beds at the other, but I was the only one in the room. Mr K is still in, they've done a CT scan, no permanent damage, but he's on a heart monitor and his heart beat is erratic, so they are going to do a heart scan and get the cardiologist to see him, and meantime they are going to run a few more tests and try to find out why he's losing so much weight, so probably a good thing really as I couldn't persuade him to see his gp. Might be in there for a day or two. I shall go back tomorrow, and I think I shall sleep well tonight. Crocheted a tea cosy and knitted a glove while I was keeping him company. Time for feet up and a cup of tea, and make some phone calls and update the family on the situation. Hope everyone else is having more fun than me. | 6808 | ohhh kuaka, I am sorry to hear of your MrK, I hope he recovers quickly and is home soon. Blimmen men eh, always something! My MrK's family were very impressed with what I/we have done, even with my kitchen cupboard doors still off lol. The Furry One was pleased to have two other dogs to play with in the rain so now we have one pongy dog lol. Am about to do the dishes - no dishwasher here - and then sit and knit for a while. Am achy and stiff but that is just from climbing up ladders and trestles and using different muscles over the past few months. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-12 18:54:00
Thanks kiwimade, I'm trying to look on the bright side, and hoping that this will be the start of a big improvement in his health and attitude towards the medical profession. kuaka - 2015-03-12 19:12:00
What a day Kuaka, hope you manage to get a really good sleep tonight and have a good long sleep in as well as usually not much use going to hospitals too early in the day. At least they can give your MrK a good check up while he is there. There is a lovely soft rain here for past 4 or so hours so hope it is really sinking into the ground and it can continue like this all night if it wants to. Now a little bit of knitting then off to bed to listen to the rain - perfect lullaby! jayemtoo - 2015-03-12 20:46:00
Oh, I'm sorry to hear Mr K is in Hosp. As you say he get a good checkup and going over before they let go home. Fingers crossed. sunflowers28 - 2015-03-12 23:09:00
morning ladies :) Thinking of you today kuaka, hope today is a better day for you and mrK. I'm about to paint the second coat on the kitchen ceiling while my MrK is sleeping. I need the space to work and I need it done before I can get on with the walls. He likes to take his time over breakfast, which is usually fine, but not this morning lol. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-13 07:24:00
morning all. carolev - 2015-03-13 08:44:00
Morning everyone. My friends mum who had a massive stroke last Thursday passed away over night. Its a release for them all, she was massively paralysed etc. So I told my friend to rest today, nothing has to happen soo fast that it cant wait a day. She hasn't been well herself, her asthma has been playing up a lot. I knitted a square yesterday, and then started the snake. Only 28 stitches per row but a total of 248 rows to the head lol. But its 10 blocks of 22 rows of black white and dark pink, so not boring. Will hear from the jewellers about 11 am today if my ring is back or not. if it is we will go over and get it. Yayay. Yesterday I got a beautiful set of bead row markers from Kuaka for my birthday. They are soo pretty and will be very handy. Thank you Kuaka. Well have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2015-03-13 09:11:00
well the ceiling and walls are all painted, two coats. Only four cupboard doors and the kitchen door to paint and the paint to scrape off the glass windows. And a quick zip around the scotia to tidy up my painting efforts. Will have my shower and join MrK with a beer I think. Am thinking of kuaka and hoping for the best :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-13 17:43:00
Well done Kiwimade.. Your getting closer to then end. Did you get your son to do the chairs? Just talking to Kuaka and her MrK is improving, Im sure she will come in here and tell everyone. I got my ring today and Love it. And I feel it suits me. My wrist is improving, I think the knitting is helping to strengthen it. I wont attempt crochet yet tho. And will strap it when working. Enjoy that Beer, I could do with one too actually lol popeye333 - 2015-03-13 17:53:00
Yes ladies, Mr K seems in good spirits, resigned to the fact that he's not coming home just yet, they are still doing tests on him (he refers to the "blood-sucker" nurse who keeps taking blood samples) but I think he looks better than he has done for some weeks. He had an echo scan on his heart today so now we have to wait for the specialists to assess the results to see if anything needs to be done. I spent 5 hours with him today, and will go back tomorrow, and depending on what happens with cyclone Pam, will go every day until he comes home, except that I've told him I won't travel if the weather is too bad, and he said he wouldn't want me to. He wants to come home, but I think he now realises how silly he has been in not getting medical help earlier. I knitted a glove today while I was there. At least I'm not just sitting. I was quite tearful on the way home, but I think that's relief - it could have been so much worse. I am knackered. Hope everyone is well and keeping up with their knitting (except for popeye, who should be resting her wrist!) kuaka - 2015-03-13 18:07:00
that's great news kuaka :) Now it's time to look after yourself. Yes popeye, he sanded down all the draws, cupboards, tricky spots in the kitchen and one of the chairs. The chairs are awful to sand lol so he left me one to do. He's so tall, he just stood there, reached up and sanded the top of the walls lol. Awesome about your ring, lovely isn't it when you can wear nice jewellery. Time for a cuppa and wait for it.... knitting! Edited by kiwimade64 at 8:43 pm, Fri 13 Mar kiwimade64 - 2015-03-13 20:42:00
I gave up the knitting and now I'm making some cards, much more fun with all the pretty papers you can get these days, I went to a new shop in palmy and found some for a quarter of the price of the warehouse. Might even start on some bigger projects like wall hanging do you know where we can find 12x12 inch frames to fit my papers? fokychick - 2015-03-13 21:30:00
morning ladies :) I haven't tried card making, glue and I don't always get on lol. Maybe Spotlight for the frames? Four cupboards and a door to paint, then the scotia to be tidied up and the kitchen will be done. I'm going to have a break and start the entrance way Monday. So I will have some knitting time, hopefully get this wee jacket finished before the weather turns cold and our grandy will get some wear out of it. Hope everyone is well, popeye with her wrist and kuaka's MrK is feeling stronger :) Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-14 08:19:00
Morning ladies, well I thought I would sleep like a log last night, but I was still tossing and turning at 2.30 so I feel like a piece of chewed string this morning. I hope to get away from here by about 9.30 or 10 - it's roughly an hour's drive. I'm going to phone a friend of ours who lives in Whangarei and see if he can pop in for a visit if Mr K is still there when the weather turns to rubbish and I can't go. The house is a shambles, not surprisingly I have no energy for housework or tidying up when I get home, but I will have to make an effort tonight as it's driving me nuts. Going to put the washing on, breakfast, shower and then head off again. Hope everyone has a good day. kuaka - 2015-03-14 08:27:00
Morning Good that your Mr K is improving Kuaka but do pace yourself at this stage as he will probably need you more when he gets home than when in Hospital. You are getting there Kiwimade, you will be wondering how to fill in your time when it is all finished lol. Went to Skeinz yesterday and got 5 more lots of naked sock wool have dyed 2 of them already. The trouble is as soon as they are dyed I want to knit them to see how they will turn out as I usually have no idea when dying the wool. So I'm knitting flat out to get the ones I am doing off the needles so can start another lot. Also got wool for a top for a great niece so will need to get onto that soon so she will get the benefit for winter. jayemtoo - 2015-03-14 08:44:00
Morning everyone. It is soo nice to be finally wearing my ring. I know a lot of people wouldn't have had the patience to wait 15 months, but I have plenty to keep the fingers occupied lol.. We need to pick blackberries, beans and tomatoes today. And I need to repot a geranium that the wind blew over and is now sitting in my pantry.. Why there do you ask??? Cos Madam has a thing about dirt and plants and she wouldn't leave it alone lol Im halfway in the stripes on the snake. The whole thing is meant to measure 90cms, Im already at 52... OOOPS. lol.. But it wont matter, Im not going to stuff it super firm cos Im hoping it will become a cuddly toy or draft stopper lol. Take care driving Kuaka, we are thinking of you. Ive never tried card making, I doubt I ever will cos they just aren't my kinda thing. Im not going to be tempted into dying yarn, it would be fatal lol. The wool man will be at CMA on Tuesday.. Scary and it will be 3 months since I bought any wool on Thursday.. I know for sure if they have the pretty lime green I wont be able to resist it. Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2015-03-14 08:57:00
hi all. been knitting the sleeves and sewing the quilt carolev - 2015-03-14 15:54:00
Afternoon ladies, I'm home safely, and just going to check to see what cyclone Pam is doing before I start putting the outdoor safely out of harms way. Mr K had a friend visit this afternoon, and he's always got plenty to say for himself and is good fun, so that cheered Mr K up and I'm sure he enjoyed it. He was still there when I left. He is local so I'm hoping that he will visit again in a couple of days if Mr K doesn't come home. I was naughty on Thursday morning, I nipped in to the emporium and bought a dozen more balls of yarn (I'm doing a blanket and thought I might run short, and it's better to be safe than sorry eh? and I can always make the blanket bigger but a tiddly one is neither use nor ornament - well that's my excuse!) Yes popeye, you are very patient re the ring. I hope you are pleased with it now that you can finally wear it. One of the nurses spied me crocheting this afternoon and asked if I had done any poppies or would like to do some (knitted or crochet) as apparently they are going to do a big wall display for Anzac Day, one to represent each person in Northland who died serving their country. I said I haven't done any yet, but I did intend to (not that I knew about the display at the hospital - I was going to find out where to send them) and I asked how many they needed. 2000. Then I asked how many they have so far. 35. Oh, I said, I can't do enough to finish the display! Right, I've just made a cup of tea, so I will have that, then do a little bit of tidying up before I cook tea. Have a good evening everyone. kuaka - 2015-03-14 17:16:00
Good to hear Mrk is in good spirits Kuaka.. it makes for a happier visit eh. it would be handy if his friend continues to visit, and MrK will be happy to stay there. Giving you a break. I totally agree a tiddler blanket is not much use to anyone lol... Im trying to justify buying some yarn on Tuesday,, Id almost Guarantee I will lol I wonder if they are doing the poppies here, Ive seen various patterns. Not that I could crochet any.. Its going to be a while before I can do that. But Im looking at it this way, if I crochet it will make my wrist hurt and then I wont be able to knit. So Im going to stick with knitting for a while. And that's going to be hard especially when you see those pretty rainbow coloured blankets on FB. Far too hot here again today.. Im not enjoying it. Have a good night everyone popeye333 - 2015-03-14 17:37:00
good to hear you are home safely kuaka and your MrK is in good spirits. It helps you too if he isn't down in the dumps. I saw some ladies on the news a few nights ago with thousands of knitted and crocheted poppies. Can't remember where they were but omg they had boxes and boxes of them. Kitchen is all finished! It looks great too if I do say so myself lol. Now to start the entrance, will do that Monday. Am going to have tomorrow off to knit and catch up on a few things around the house. kiwimade64 - 2015-03-14 18:30:00
morning ladies :) A day off from painting for me today so will try and get this wee jacket finished. Been thinking of the buttons I'll put on it and because it is so plain I might mix the buttons up a bit. Hope everyone manages to stay safe today, Cyclone Pam certainly has some kick to her. Thinking of you and your MrK, kuaka. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-15 08:40:00
Morning everyone... Another calm day soo far.. Think it may get very hot again. Ive possibly done something really dumb or surprisingly good lol.. Put a loaf of spicy fruit bread in the breadmaker.. Unfortunatly Ive put it on the wrong cycle lol... Instead of being on the sweet cycle its on the French bread one.. Will be interesting to see what turns out. lol Im about half way through the snakes head now. Gave up last night cos its black. so should finish the knitting today. Then a real test for my wrist will be the sewing and stuffing. but Ill take it slowly. Hope everyone is well or improving. Havent looked to see what the weather is doing up in Kuakas neck of the woods yet. Have a good day everyone. popeye333 - 2015-03-15 08:43:00
Morning ladies, well I was undecided about visiting his nibbs today because the weather isn't that great, but neither is it as bad as I expected, nor as bad as it might be later - possibly tomorrow - but decision was made for me when Mr K phoned and was quite emphatic that I'm to stay home and stay safe, and if needs be, stay home tomorrow too. I don't think it's going to be quite as bad as we first thought. I said I will phone him back later for a chat. He seems chirpy enough and said he enjoyed his tea last night and his visit from his friend, and said the friend plans to visit again so that's good. I will take the opportunity to catch up on some housework and start tidying up the spare bedroom for a visit from Mr Ks son and family who are planning on coming next month for a week. And then this afternoon I will do some knitting and relax. Stay safe everyone. Oh wow - the wind has suddenly picked up and it's now blowing like the devil, so pleased I'm not on my way to visit. I did say to him that I had thought if I visited today I would take the old wagon rather than the car as it's much heavier and less likely to be blown off the road, although it is much thirstier on fuel. He thought that would be sensible, but still insisted I stay home. kuaka - 2015-03-15 10:21:00
Morning all I think currant bread would be yummy no matter which cycle it is cooked on Popeye. Am waiting to be picked up to go out for brunch something I never do, but niece and partner are here visiting her parents and as they are young professionals it is just what you do! Knitting growing well and the pattern on the socks is turning out interesting. Have a safe and relaxing day everyone jayemtoo - 2015-03-15 10:36:00
afternoon all still doing sleeves chatted to kuaka on Skype this morning now off for a walk before it rains carolev - 2015-03-15 12:11:00
Well the bread has turned out fine, and rather tasty.. phew lol... Glad you are staying home and safe Kuaka... Ive finally finished knitting the snake... Will sew up later and then the test for my hand, the stuffing, which requires a fair amount of strength. Will see how we go. Cloudy here and a nice breeze but nothing rough. popeye333 - 2015-03-15 12:15:00
morning girls. we have rain but no wind, looks like Pam has lost her punch , off to DR, dentist and hospital all today.so will take my knitting, carolev - 2015-03-16 07:13:00
Carolev is right, Pam wasn't as bad as the storm we had last July or August which wasn't forecast as a storm, just a "low". Having said that, the sky looks as though it could drop a lot of rain very quickly but yesterday wasn't as bad as I expected. Waiting to hear from Mr K to see if he is being discharged today, in which case I will go and get him, otherwise I think I'll stay put and visit tomorrow. He must be getting better as he wants to come home. Until I know what is going to happen, I will just potter round at home and do some knitting. Have a super day everyone. kuaka - 2015-03-16 07:24:00
morning ladies :) It's raining and windy here but nothing like what we expected. So all good in that respect. That's good news kuaka, he will be pleased to get home. I'm glad your bread turned out fine popeye, does make you wonder about the settings though doesn't it. I'm almost finished the wee jacket, have about 2cm of the collar to knit, sew the side seams and sew on the buttons. But first thing this morning I have to take the car for it's WOF. Should pass, MrK gave it a look over and everything worked and it has new tyres. Might pop into the quilting shop and see what fabric there is for cushions and dining room chairs. I have fabric enough for one or the other and can't decide which way to go. Maybe a lovely piece of fabric will 'call' me and I will be able to make up my mind. Take care out there. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-16 07:47:00
Morning everyone. Yes Pam was a bit of a fizzer really.. We have had a gentle rain through the night. No wind here yet. Its fairly warm tho. Gee Carole that's just about a warrant of fitness for the body eh.. Glad to hear MrK is improving, yep if you don't need to pick him up, take a day for yourself Kuaka... Fingers crossed for the warrant Kiwimade. ours only failed cos it got the flattie and they had to fix that before they could test it lol. A quiet day at home for us too. MrP is still in bed so Im having me time now. I might give it to the lady who gave me the book. Only seems fair really. My new mobile should arrive today, its the same as the one I have.. Only half the price tho lol.. The one I have at present has been acting like its possessed lol... Wouldn't notify me of texts, would go as slow as to do anything in it, and then the last couple of days since I ordered the new one its been soo loud it scares the living daylights out of me lol Have a good day everyone... I only wish it was cold to go with the rain ,.. popeye333 - 2015-03-16 08:50:00
Phone has arrived, even came with an instruction manual. The last one didn't lol Here is my snake finished.. I keep thinking of it as a her, Ruby.. https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/370295118.jpg popeye333 - 2015-03-16 12:27:00
Nice snake Popeye. Nice steady rain here and not cold which is good. Onto 5th pair of socks these ones are just 2 toned stripes, sister was hinting yesterday that she needs some more so she can have first pick next time she comes over. jayemtoo - 2015-03-16 12:34:00
Ruby looks cute popeye. How do you knit socks so quickly jayemtoo - it takes me forever to knit a pair. Well he's home! I went down this afternoon and picked him up. They said they would discharge him this afternoon, so I got there just after 1pm and we waited until nearly 4.30 for his discharge papers. Meanwhile I knitted a couple of poppies, and gave them the ones I had knitted yesterday. I'll do a few more and send them down together with the ones a friend knitted when she visited yesterday afternoon. It's good to have him home again, but he is in bed, he's shattered. (and he hasn't got that on his own, seeing as I woke at 3.30 and couldn't get back to sleep) Feet up and knit time. kuaka - 2015-03-16 19:40:00
morning ladies :) Great news your MrK is home kuaka, no one sleeps well in hospital, always so much activity going on even at night time. I love Ruby, popeye, would make a great draft thingy for the door. I finished the wee jacket for our grandy, will post a pic either later this evening or tomorrow as I'm off to school today. Teaching the littlies so it should be a fun day. happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2015-03-17 07:44:00
Morning everyone. Mr Kuaka will be pleased to be home. Just takes things slowly and hopefully he will be keen to start getting involved with life again. Have fun at school today Kiwimade. Be a nice change from all the decorating.. Did you find some fabric for the chairs? Im taking Ruby to CMA today. Im in two minds whether to give it to the lady who bought me the book. Or keep it and use it on our hall door which usually rattles soo much we have to bung cardboard in it to stop it rattling at night... but that of course poses one problem.. Missy would probably drag it away and play with it.. she loves it lol. I didn't start anything new yesterday.. Will see what happens today with the yarn seller... Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2015-03-17 07:59:00
Morning ladies, well I've just taken his nibbs a cup of tea and some toast in bed, he looked very comfortable snuggled down under the duvet. I'm sure he wasn't that comfortable in hospital, and I had the best nights sleep that I've had in over a week, so I'm hoping we can soon start getting back to normal. I'm undecided whether to go out to my usual Tuesday afternoon mah jong group, I'd really like to but I'm reluctant to leave Mr K on his own. The social worker visited yesterday and she suggested he gets a medical alarm thingey so if he has a fall or a tia while I'm out he can call for help. He didn't seem all that keen but she said it would take the pressure off me, I can go out for a while knowing that if anything happens he can call for help rather than me arriving home to find him in a heap - that has already happened once. I'm going to try to talk him into it. I don't go out all that much, Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday morning for an hour or so to the knitting group and then grocery shopping, other than that it's just pop to the post shop to post something or check the mail. We'll see. Pity he can't take some tablets to remove his stubbornness. I'm so relieved that I don't have to do that hours drive both ways again today. Enjoy your day at school kiwimade. Happy knitting everyone. Edited by kuaka at 8:21 am, Tue 17 Mar kuaka - 2015-03-17 08:19:00
Kuaka do encourage him to get the alarm. Speaking from experience they are a great load off ones mind. But the peace of mind of not having to worry on the short occasions Im out is fantastic. And I wouldn't be going to club if we didn't have the alarms. popeye333 - 2015-03-17 08:28:00
yes Popeye, the social worker (she was very nice but she didn't tell us her name) has given us info on it and said it can be funded by winz because Mr K has a disability allowance. I will try my best to persuade him. I think he will agree even if he's reluctant. kuaka - 2015-03-17 09:10:00
afternoon all. been out walking this morning carolev - 2015-03-17 16:23:00
My dad has a Blooper alarm kuaka and it certainly takes the pressure off all of us, him included. I would highly recommend one, just for the peace of mind alone they are worth it. Here's a pic of the wee jacket/cardy I knitted our granddaughter. It's a Snuggly pattern #1782, birth to seven years so quite a useful pattern to have. Just a plain pattern, but I wanted to knit something plain while doing the renos. Colours are quite bright lol but I love it. https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/370583132.jpg The tablecloth it is on is one I crocheted around 30 years ago. Apart from a few holes which need mending, it's as good as new and it's used regularly. Edited by kiwimade64 at 4:35 pm, Tue 17 Mar kiwimade64 - 2015-03-17 16:32:00
Its lovely Kiwimade. I love pink with green. And the buttons are cool being mixed. I cant decide what to do next. Mind you Im feeling kinda flat and had a sleep today. So maybe I should just leave it till something pops into my head. popeye333 - 2015-03-17 17:24:00

I love pink and green together too. Discovered this afternoon, after reading Mr Ks discharge report that he hadn't been given all the medication he was supposed to get, so I phoned the doctor, took the report in, and the nurse went through it with me. Turns out that after we left, the docs had changed their minds and decided that Mr K didn't need all the medication they first thought, so deleted some, and amended the report. Pity nobody told us. Was so tired this afternoon I went to bed at 3 and didn't wake till 5. A friend sent a casserole down for our tea, so I only had to cook some rice and broccoli, so that was super, and there's heaps of casserole for me to reheat for tomorrow (and probably enough to freeze some). It is so good to have wonderful caring friends. I feel very blessed. Going to try to do some knitting this evening. Hope everyone is well. kuaka - 2015-03-17 18:15:00
