Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

Honesty is the best policy unless you are commenting on a scam, then you are sabotaging someone's auction and potentially reducing Trade Me's profit.

You did spot the irony, I trust :-) Assume the "rights" thing could be behind people stomping on our colleagues for trying to expose unethical practices.

It's certainly had a hard life. The second 8 looks a little broken on the shot so I can see how the mistake was made.

Anybody else having problems with predictive text?
THE TEXT

Hi Bob,
This is Alan next door. I'm sorry buddy, but I have a confession to make
to you. I've been riddled with guilt these past few months and have been
trying to pluck up the courage to tell you to your face, but I am at
least now telling you in text as I can't live with myself a moment longer
without you knowing. The truth is, I have been sharing your wife, day
and night when you're not around. In fact, probably more than you,
particularly in the mornings after you've left for work. I haven't been
getting it at home recently, but that's no excuse I know. The temptation
was just too much....I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you
will accept my sincerest apologies and forgive me. I promise that it
won't happen again. Regards, Alan.

THE CONSEQUENCES

Bob, feeling anguished and betrayed, immediately went into his bedroom,
grabbed his gun, and without a word, shot his wife twice, killing her
instantly. He returned to the lounge where he poured himself a stiff
drink and sat down on the sofa. He took out his phone to respond to the
neighbour's text and saw he had another message.

THE NEW MESSAGE

Hi Bob,
This is Alan next door again. Sorry about the slight typo on my last
text, I expect you worked it out anyway, but as I'm sure you noticed, my
predictive text changed 'WiFi' To 'Wife'. Technology hey?!? Hope you
saw the funny side of that. Regards, Alan.

Hi, what are the predominant countries of the coins.
Are they in flips, cases or mainly loose coins.
A few pics could probably help you in the right direction .

Hi gammoner, thank you for your response. Predominantly New Zealand and Australia pre decimal, all loose. How do I show pics on here?

NZ 1933 to 1946 silver coinage contains 50% silver and Oz 1910 to 1963 silver coinage will probably be your better value coins. For the copper and cupro coinage will greatly depend on condition.

gammoner - 2015-08-16 22:11:00
6824

Key things to look for is condition and any Silver coins made in NZ before 1946 as these are made of half silver. Apart from that there are a few varieties to look for that are worth more but again condition is key.

mudeki - 2015-08-16 22:12:00

We have about 40 pre 1946 NZ threepence... We also have quite a few Great Britain coins. Will see if I can get some good photos up tomorrow. Thank you for your help gammoner and mudeki.

For the GB silver coinage ,pre 1920 is .925 sterling and 1920 to 1946 is 50% silver. Good hunting.

There is also a local registered numismatic dealer in palmy that you could try http://yellow.co.nz/y/harbour-city-coins
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?searchtype=SE
LLER&member=22971

If he is not able to help let me know via the site below as I am always keen to help people get into the hobby. If you are just wanting to sell them I am probably not the best person to ask but often meet people in weekends to see what they have. http://www.coinerrors.co.nz/

For the NZ 3d,s 1935 is the money year to find. As worn circulated value only, would expect those 40 to return about $30 to $45 on recent Trademe sales.

Sounds like a 19th century tradesman's token. Is there an issuer's name on the other side?

Thank you mudeki, we really just want to sell them for my mum, just looking for the easiest way. I realise it's difficult without getting right into the middle of it. I will try the Palmy dealer you suggested.

The only other info on the coin we can see is 'New South Wales' it has a picture of a woman holding scales.

Sounds like a Whitty & Brown Trade Token 3 different varieties with the woman holding scales and the words One Penny on the other side price range in the catalogue from $30-$150 but very dependent on condition

does it look like this http://downies.com/aca/Auction317/aca/images/lots/317/829.jp

Is it just a medal?
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=934541610
Any opinion?

Would expect the coin to have 50 Yuan on it, not 5 Oz, but could be wrong here.

It's a bullion piece at best. Once you get into items that were never intended for circulation, the difference between "coin" and "medal" starts to get a bit blurry anyway.

translateltd - 2015-08-17 07:27:00
6841

so my research says, the item "borrows' design from the 50 Yuan coin, but has some differences.

I couldn't find it in the standard Krause catalogue, the Schön world coin catalogue, or the Krause "Unusual World Coins" volume. UWC lists some bullion issues but not all, and of course catalogues can't be totally comprehensive. Odd that it doesn't make any of the three, though.

translateltd - 2015-08-18 08:11:00
6843

Hmm I though Krause would have it, as at NGC site it has a ref. KM-926

The original thing could be seen at NGC website
http://www.ngccoin.com/priceguide/chinese-coin-prices-detail
.aspx?ChineseSetID=376

the item listed was probably a copy 'utilising' the desired design. The copy smartly had no 50 Yuan on it and some small differences.

loaferrr - 2015-08-18 16:58:00
6844

KM 926 is the 50 yuan reference piece - because Krause numbering isn't sequential I had to look in Schön first, which quotes the Krause numbers as well as its own.

Looks like this thing caught someone's attention, as well.
http://forums.silverstackers.com/message-837436.html

and a similar item
http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?topic=10492.0

I wonder if the buyer got 999 silver.

It is sad to see such items to surface on TradeMe.

Here is my post on a medallion
"Yes you should state your shipping costs." And the reply:
Lol ill be sure to ask you for advise re my shipping cost next time i list, thats if my lazy ass can be bothered, hey heres some advise, maybe you could learn some manners or possibly some respect before making dumb comments on people's post.

I had a similarly unpleasant response from a seller recently when I asked for a "Plan B" option: in case none of the folks working on the medal catalogue project were successful in buying his item, would he be able to provide us with images so we could still list it? Most sellers we've approached have been very obliging, but in this case I got a rather condescending reply telling me to buy it if I wanted to list it. The sound of a point being missed :-) So I'm in no hurry - the price can come down quite a bit first, or it can go unrecorded.

After searching the net I cant find another one but they will turn up. His prices are similar to other items are listed for elsewhere but after his response to your question I would not want to deal with him anyway.
