6651 | Yes, put them on Trade Me. Start them cheap and you might be surprised. Early Tonga usually sells okay if condition is okay. That goes for stamps and covers. twg1935 - 2016-04-07 23:03:00 |
6652 | Hello Stamp people :-) after a bit of advice.... We (myself and other half) have just inherited some stamp collections some from my later father and other halves grandpa. We have a Stanley gibbons book of stamps which I suspect its very old and out of date. My question is do people still use stanley gibbons books to identify stamps? thanks in advance emily1983nz - 2016-04-08 14:14:00 |
6653 | For reference material SG is as good as any other , but you might like to type in 'Online stamp catalogue (and the Country you want )' to get the most up to date valuations of the various parts of your collection...or just contact a knowledgeable member from the local Stamp club rebeltk - 2016-04-10 07:20:00 |

I'd suggest you go along to your local library and borrow the latest Stanley Gibbons catalogue they have. I'd also advise that where it prices things at 1 Pound, that I, as a dealer sell at NZ$1. Condition is also important. kiwisteven - 2016-04-14 21:23:00 |

6660 | Anyone here have Auction lots on 'consignment' to Aussie Auction House - "Velvet Collectables" - formerley tied up with/associated with Mowbrays Australia / SG Australia ? The bad news is the outfit went belly up into voluntary liquidation in early/mid March 2016 --- with reports of unpaid proceeds from earlier stamp auctions & after having just run another stamp auction the day before it went into voluntary liquidation More on Stampboards site - where there is a lengthy thread Do the larger NZ Stamp Auction Operators run or are they required to have a trust or escrow account to protect proceeds from sales of Client Lots or not ? ;-) tmg - 2016-04-22 22:53:00 |

Very good point Gary. I think that all Auction houses should protect vendors assets by paying out immediately or putting funds into escrow accounts. Perhaps this is why so many collectors are these days preferring direct sales of their collections rather than having them offered by auction houses over a long term. I know some auctions spread sales over a year or more and that makes escrow accounts really important. kiwisteven - 2016-04-24 09:29:00 |

Sure to be a busy morning. Buyers should let vendors know what they are looking for as most sellers can only bring along a small percentage of their stock and it gets frustrating (for both buyers and sellers) to be asked for items that you have left at home. For me I'm bringing along a lot of nice used French stamps, some scarce Gladys Goodall Postcards, and a good lot of old world albums with some strange stamps in them. Also a nice lot of Cinderellas. I'm also in the market to buy, especially anything old and unusual. kiwisteven - 2016-05-05 19:27:00 |

Well, we sure had a busy fair this morning with lots of people both buying and selling. At one stage I had around 12 people at my stand. Popular were NZ Full Face Queens, recent NZ stamps, Postcards (of course) and the French stamps I mentioned above. one of the other dealers sold some scarce NZ FDC's (Not Philatelic Bureau Wanganui!) . I also managed to buy 2 large cartons of associated stamps, covers from NZ, Czechoslovakia etc and a box of coins so I was a happy chappie. kiwisteven - 2016-05-07 16:37:00 |
6666 | 2d Stars Error Forgeries on Trademe. It disappoints me to see that there are 2 stamp lots offering 2d Stars Error overprint stamps on trademe at present and both lots do not appear to be genuine. While it is difficult to be sure because the scanned illustrations used by both vendors do not enlarge from what i can see both have flat tops on the "d" of pence and both of the "2" numbers are wrongly shaped. kiwisteven - 2016-05-13 15:43:00 |
6667 | Just starting to get into stamp collecting again like first day covers is there any thing I should be looking out for when buying eg addressed or non addressed etc? southbrook1 - 2016-05-15 12:20:00 |
6668 | southbrook1 wrote:
Generally all predecimal FDCs will be addressed and many before the mid 1970s as they were always sent through the mail. After that FDCs were mostly bought directly from the Post Office or NZ Post and were unaddressed but cancelled. That's the way you tend to get them today. I would recommend to look for FDCs that are in very good or excellent condition and preferably scarcer than the average issue. It is nice to work towards having every issue though too. stak - 2016-05-15 13:55:00 |

Hi Lisa. The best thing with pre-decimal FDC's is to make sure they are clean and tidy. This also applies to the addressing. A neat, tidy address is best. You have to make sure the datestamp is the correct date and also that the covers bears the full set. you can check these details in all the current cheap NZ stamp catalogues. It is also great if they are postmarked with an appropriate postmark. For instance you want your Health FDCs to be postmarked at a health camp. Southland centennial stamps are best if postmarked in Southland. For more details contact a stamp dealer like myself or join a stamp club. there is one in Rangiora. kiwisteven - 2016-05-18 01:36:00 |

6695 | There is a seller on here who is burying potentially high value old replica / reprints or proofs of questionable value in their old lots - and is failing to disclose that point in his Auction description, and these lots are likely to see bidding rise (as a these are the key item in the lots) He has been caught out with high value scarce forgeries more than once recently before and has admitted after the event that he knew that the 'key' reprint / proof in the lot was not an original or even a stamp (and this was not disclosed in Auction) tmg - 2016-07-11 18:19:00 |
