Well that certainly doesn't apply to Christchurch dealers (me included) as we are often involved in local Stamp Clubs and helping collectors when ever possible. I remember in the late 1970's I got involved in the stamp clubs when none of the other dealers were. I worked for Laurie Franks and he told me not to bother but I did and funily enough within a few years later both he and Bruce Alexamder got involved and really enjoyed it. and both ended up as International Exhibitors and Judges.

Did people know that New Zealand post gave away free Postal Stationery postcards this last month. A special Santa Claus Xmas Postpaid Postcard was handed out to children at the three major Santa parades (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch) by NZ Post Staff walking alongside their new Postal delivery vehicles. These postcards will end up being rare as most will either be rubbished by the children or sent off to Santa at the north and then rubbished by NZ Post!

Hey I understand that the first fair for January won't be on the usual 1st Saturday of the month but instead will be on the 9th of January which is the second Saturday.
Any out of towners should note that date (9th January) as the date to attend the most popular stamp fair in New Zealand.

They were printed in yellow when they were used with a counterpart overprint. Priced in the kiwi Revenue Catalogue at $75 if unholed or just $6 if holed.

Is there anything special this weekend? I know some folk from Timaru are coming up so I'm going to make sure I have some nice USA to show folks and I think i'll also try to find some N.Z.Cinderellas to bring along too.

N.Z. Stamp Collectors Club meeting will be this Wednesday evening (27th January) at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville st, in inner Riccarton starting at 7.30pm. This month it is a casual affair being run as a wine & cheese evening with a range of display brought along by members. No long talks. We do have a sales table and our exchange branch will also be operating. Everybody is welcome to come along. It should last until around 9pm. The library will also be open. I'd love to see some new folk or old members come along and join our regulars for what will be a great evening.
Steven McLachlan. President NZSCC.

We are a friendly mob.

The Postal Services Act (see govt Laws) includes as item 45 the very interesting law.

Loss or delay of letters
45 Loss or delay of letters

No person is entitled to compensation, and no liability is imposed on the Crown or any postal operator, for any loss or damage suffered by any person because of any loss, default, delay, or omission in the receipt, transmission, or delivery of any letter.

That means that nobody is liable for any loss of mail.

I can understand from a crown liability perspective and also the ability of proof of sending i.e we could all claim loses for all sorts of things "lost" in the post.......then there is the 3-5 days delivery sort of thing and if it took 6 days and cost someone millions of dollars , you would not want to be held liable (not that something that important should be sent by Post now a days.

This Saturdays Stamp Fair in Christchurch (see notice above) should be popular. I know there is a Stamp Dealer from Hamilton who will be coming along to check out the scene and catch up with some of the locals and several other people has already told me they are coming along so it should be a busy morning for all. of course it finishes at 12 noon so there is plenty of time to get home to watch the NZ Black caps deal to the Aussies for a second time this tour!

I expect quite a few people will come along at start time of 9am and then walk the few blocks to Hagley Park and the start of Cricket at 10.30am. I also know of one dealer who will be bringing along a big 200 world stamp album collection he purchased this week from a deceased estate so there will be lots of new material from a great range of odd countries to keep everybody happy.

Here we go again:

"NZ Post charges increase"

wonder how much NZ Post are going wallop everyone for this time - to make up for what they allegedly haven't been able to balance the books for .. ? ;-)

"Postage is set to go up in a big jump in July.
From 80 cents to $1.00 for posting a standard letter or card."

25% increase boys & girls --- and that's just to keep the "Deliver when they feel like it only half the time it was before' Circus on the road .. ;-)

guess with this will come further avalanches of even more expensive sets -- which likely many will be lucky to see used copies of some values at all .. ;-)

It seems like a popular place for Trademe buyers to pickup their trademe purchases. I have 3 different people doing this on Saturday morning! It is a easy way for people to save on postage costs and also eliminate any hassles of lost mail!

I heard that the driveway was going to be sealed this week but didn't see it done on Wednesday night but they had been preparing it for sealing. The male toilets in the corridor have been redone so no need to trapse upstairs now.

What happened with the visitor from Dunedin? The fair however went very well with many cartons of stamps being bought and sold. I ended up acquiring several collections of stamps and/or covers from three different sources and at one time was serving 10 different collectors at the same time.

Hi Guys, I am not a collector , but picked up some what I thought was a kids album at a garage sale, and most of it was , from 10 year old boy 1960s sort of album .
Among hte dross were 1d, 2d ,3d and 6d unhinged and unmounted "The 25th Anniversary of the Accession of Queen Salote" from what I can gather from 1944 these are in sheets of 4 x 4 with others being singles and doubles.
Are these worth anything .
Also a large no of Tin Can Post FDC from around hte late 30s .These are all postmarked and dated , but not addresses to anyone .
Advice please shall I just put them on TM and see what happens or ????
