You re right Cooks, everyone is busy. Congratulations to you Julie. Chis must be so lovely. What a great way to propose.
My heart still goes out to everyone affected by the quakes four years ago. Trade Me Message Boards seemed to be so supportive of what was happening to our friends in different parts of the country. I hope that still happens.
Over the last 18 months I have popped into the Circle a few times but I haven't had the confidence to write. I have been thinking of you all though and trust that all is well. Take care everyone.

Morning all, long time no see!
Just popped in to share my news but first -
Congrats Julie! Happy times for your family indeed :)

As for me - I'm bursting with pride as miss 17 was made Dux of her school last night!
She has worked incredibly hard this year and to gain the top award makes it all worth while.
A few months down time now then she's off to Otago Uni to do a bachelor of science with a double major in chemistry & psychology and a bachelor of art with a major in performing arts and a minor in film and media.
Makes me tired just thinking about it but she can do it.
Love my rising star :)

On that note - have a happy day all xx

Well done especially you as her MUM.

I know that feeling with my Grandson in USA showing them all up, was top in his school and inside the top 7 overall throughout the State.

Thanks motorbo.
Just home after a fantastic 3 days away :)
After I left my daughter, I went to Marahau (gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park) and spent the day out kayaking today.
Just wonderful to be out on the water and meeting lots of playful seals.

Simply fantastic, I'm full of envy as I know what it is like but you have the extra of the seals, great stuff.

Living the life is wonderful.

Cheers.

Having International students as usual but today, one of them went for a walk with another Asian girl, went along a track and a walkway next to the Whau (Avondale, Auckland), and discovered little crabs (tide going out) amongst the mud so chased and caught some, brought them home, into a jar and sits there watching them and noting with wee excitements of movements, yeah, reminds me of the simple things of life being enjoyed, all great stuff.

Editing to add that she even shows them to our cats inside the home.....

Cheers.

So pleased to see this thread revived. Must be fabulous having Jenni home Julie and celebrating her birthday to boot. Cooks you're in Noosa now good on you. I went to school in Rotorua with all the Mathias clan so interested to read of your link with Scott. I am in London at the moment waiting to fly to Istanbul and onto Gallipoli. Very excited and somewhat emotional at the thought of walking the track but sobering thought that it is 8 1/2 km trek up a hill however reaching Chanukah Bair will be amazing. Hope you're all keeping warm as Christchurch was pretty chilly when I left on Tuesday.

Hi Cooks, how is it going over there, no doubt your lifestyle has changed considerably since leaving Masterton. Noosa is a great place and we visit whenever we get to Brisbane. Our friends live in Pomona which is not too far way.

Hello hello... :-)

I've been looking for the Christmas thread that you started quite a few years ago now Pam, and searching with your trademe name lead me to find this one.. lovely that it's still here..

How is everyone.. hope life is good wherever you are.. think of all of you in Canterbury at times.. hope all the earthquake repairs have been completed and life is going well.. and now with Kaikoura and the area there.. thoughts are being sent, hope all goes well for you there quickly..

Jenni completed her Counselling degree this month.. she's decided to come home, has work opportunities here, and plans to save then travel.. 'I can't wait to travel Mum.. :-)
Chris now works for the Victorian State Govt., as an environmental planner with regard to water sustainability in urban and rural environments, a special interest for him for many years now.
Looking forward to mid December when they'll all be here..

My garden continues to flourish.. 57 fruit trees, vines and plants are growing here.. and quite a few ornamentals too, particularly my favourite Kowhai tree's.. currently 11 growing here with plans for more, Chris and I have grown 8 of them from seeds from my older trees.. DIY features a lot in my garden, I bought myself a concrete mixer a few months ago, (that's our Mum, chorused my kids, in a skype call for us all) have built another wood shed, just made the base slab for water tanks that I'll set 800mm high on concrete blocks beneath a downpipe.. the water will be for my garden.

Looking forward to seeing what you've all been doing.. :-)

Quite a few years since this thread began.. hope everyone is well, and also anyone joining in..

My garden is abundant currently, have preserved 33 jars of Billington plums from my tree.. Omega plums ripening, will make jam and also Plum Brandy with those, plus lots to share and enjoy freshly picked off the tree.

Preserved 53 jars of white-fleshed peaches - variety unknown - grown from a young tree given by a friend of a friend who found a tree flourishing on the bank of a river somewhere, and grew some trees from the stones.. I added a few spoonsful of plum juice from bottling those, to make a soft lightish-golden queen colour for the peaches in the jars, as there's just a little colour from the peaches themselves.

Figs are ripening, blackberries just beginning, apples, pears, Golden Queen peaches, etc.. etc.. still to come.

My aim, when I began planting fruiting plants and trees here in November 2009 after building our home, of being able to pick at least three varieties of fruit from my trees at any time throughout the year, has been achieved for most of the year now, my new loquat tree will give another fruit for Spring-time, and will add something else that will fruit around September to November, to give three fruits for those months.. suggestions welcome :-)

Have a wonderful 2017 everyone.. best wishes from me here :-)

Gosh Julie, you are very busy and with all of those trees fruiting, Wow !!!

It has been ages since I have had Figs, seems so rare these days in the bigger smoked areas, Why, unsure.
Dried figs are expensive.

Oh, my diet is now virtually 90% raw and loving all of these fresh Summer fruits and veges but in my case having to source them, e.g. Apples are currently very short supply, apparently a shipment from the USA is held up with suspicion that the quality of the fruit is well below standards.
Partner discovered that "Sunrise" (a new NZ variety) apples are not too bad at all, in fact are quite sweet. The Golden Queens are now available in good quantities along with most other fruits but still no figs etc.

Noticed you have a loquat tree, saw in PnS that they selling fresh Lynchees.
There you go, something for you to add.

At the moment just finished bottling a latest batch of Porter Beer, now need to allow it to mature for about 3 weeks, started a new batch of Ginger Beer, oh, we did polish of 23 litres of Robber's Gold Beer in too quick a time, everyone wanted more. Will have a batch of Stout to open from this weekend though, gee those micro-breweries are good, if anything too damn good, mind you, no head-aches or hang-overs, not like the shop beers or ales, don't know what they do but these home-made ones are the real thing and a lot more kinder, LOL.

And middle of last year, found a good source of raw unpasteurised milk and wild honey. Cheese making was great then being on hold during these very warm days but will get back into that soon once my supply has been used, though one lot was suppose to be like stilton but never bloomed - came out quite a hard cheese like a cross between tasty and parmesan, is actually very nice and tasty, it is a keeper too.

Oh, another thing, got myself a new toy on Boxing Day, a George Foreman Spiralizer, absolutely great, my hands are more free'er now rather those hand type ones, started a thread on these too.

Must get going but all the best.

Editing to add that last year suggested for TM to add a photo just like they do with listings but restricted of course, thinking will give readers more clearer on how things are really like, hmmm, what are your thoughts.

And how terrible that would be - seeing there are so many closely guarded recipes in this thread.
