morning ladies :) The 'do' went very well and our grandy managed the day very well. We've had a few bleary nights as she is just not sleeping, guess it is the heat.

Off to the beach this afternoon and fish and chips on the beach for tea. Should be a fun afternoon.

No knitting as just too busy being a nana :).

Happy knitting :)

Morning
Another warm day ahead, I actually like the heat (sorry Popeye!) but the garden would really love some nice steady rain for a bit.

Oh dear Carole re the too small jacket - is there someone who will fit it?

We had similar idea last evening Kiwimade and had fish and chips on the beach and it was so lovely just sitting and watching the world go by - that is when we finally got the f & c as so many others must have had the same idea and the queue at the shop was out the door.

Got some cotton yesterday for dish cloths I was given one for Christmas and really like it so have made 5 so far and they certainly are easy to do.
I want to do some for sister and friends.

Also have to finish a jacket for nieces little girl for them to take back to Italy with them and hoping have enough wool left over for a hat as well. So despite the weather still managing to keep the hands busy. e

Have a good day everyone

Morning Everyone... Yep sleepyhead alright lol...

I got up and got the rubbish bag ready for MrP to take out. And went and layed on my bed for 10 more minutes..
And here I am lol... fell back into a deep sleep.

Where does one go to the beach from where you are Kiwimade?

Ill plod along with my two main crafts.. Just not handling the heat.. So a lot of lazy times.

Have a good day everyone

Ohh Carol that is Lovely.. Wish I was little again...

Thought it might be somewhere over there Kiwimade... How long does it take to get there.

We are less than 1km from the bottom of the Umm Manukau Harbour and then 8.5 kms from the west coast which I don't like

Well I started the off by "tinking" as I discovered my 10 stitch blanket was down to only 8 stitches. Fortunately I only had to "tink" 3 rows.

Had to take the old girl in for a WOF which it got, but it is going to need some work on the brakes before long and it needs a new windscreen as it's cracked. Always something.

I did a Deramores order at the weekend and then realised this morning that I hadn't ordered what I need for one particular little project I have on my "to do" list. Never mind, I'll just have to remember to get it when I go to spotty next.

We didn't have our barbecue yesterday as the chicken pie was enough for last night too, and we didn't have it today as it was raining, so maybe tomorrow.

Meantime I'll carry on with the 10 stitch blanket.

Happy knitting everyone.

good morning. b hot already , did some of miss E's new jacket last night, don't think I will have enough wool for a hood. only got 6 balls.

morning, cooler here this morning, have to go to the local hospital for x-rays on my back (they will probably find it's just old age and arthritis) which has been giving me trouble for months. When I say local, it's about 20 to 25 minutes drive away. I will take my knitting with me in case I have to wait and drop my recyclables off at the tip on the way, save going there specially.

Maybe if the weather stays good today we will finally have our barbecue on the new barbecue.

Other than that, no plans for today. Might do some ironing before I go, well before it gets too hot at any rate.

Have some sewing alterations to do for someone, so hope to finish them today, and that will almost pay for my Deramores order.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning
Love the jacket Carole. I finished my 10 stitch a couple of weeks ago Kuaka it is a real hotchpotch one as used it for all the scrap ends of wool but turned out ok. I now have a crotched one on the go for the scraps of wool which is also a hotchpotch but I don't like having a lot of little bits of wool just sitting around. I must be one of the real odd ones as I don't have a big stash of wool preferring to get it as I need it and using it all up - but there again I can't resist a bargain so never get to the bottom of the pile as somehow more just seems to arrive lol.

It's a bit cooler here at the moment and hope it stays that way as want to take a load to the dump which is always a hot and dirty job, and we really really need some rain.

I finished the cardy I was making last evening and hope I have enough for a beanie as well, otherwise it's a trip to the shop later as well.

Happy knitting

Morning everyone..

It is a couple of degrees cooler here. still hot.

Its a while since I did a Deramores order. And I don't really need anything at the mo... .

I didn't do any craft yesterday.. The heat is really affecting me, Im aching all over.

Have to pop up the road for milk, and then Ill refill our pill trays. If it stays cool enough I might vacuum.

Have a grumpy man here today, so everything depends on that lol..

Have a good day all

morning ladies :) takes about 40 minutes from here to get to Papamoa, popeye, so not that far really.

Just finished mowing the lawn and now having an early cuppa. Our wee grandy is doing a puzzle with her mum, she's going to be a smart cookie lol - biased nana here!

Back out to the garden for me shortly, have some plants to plant.

My stash is slowly being used, I also don't like too much 'in stock'. I had forgotten about the 10 stitch blankets, might have another go at knitting one after I have finished Maddy's jumper.

happy knitting :)

That's a bit weird carolev but I have heard of similar things happening to other people.

Couple of pics - not knitting this time, but I think they are just stunning.

First is the calla I bought last week, which I haven't planted yet:

http://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/358810245.jpg

and then my Christmas lily which has just flowered (okay it's a bit late) but I was really thrilled with this as I brought some bulbs with us from our previous home, and this is the only one which survived and the colour is stunning and the fragrance is divine. Wish more of them had made it.

morning ladies :) gorgeous lilies :) Mine were late this year too kuaka, Christmas lilies flowered a few days after Christmas but oh well, at least they flowered. Even my tiger lilies which are usually out in full force on New Years day were a week late.

Am taking daughter and grandy home today so a big day on the road for us. Have an appointment in Hamilton at 9.15am so more kms for me as well.

Just heard grandy, all of 16 months old, say 'kick your butt!" in the middle of a babble. Can't think where she heard that lol. The other day it was oi stop it lol. She is a little mimic and we have to be so careful - well her parents do lol, nana and poppa are the exception!

So no knitting for me again, did get three rows done yesterday on the front of Maddy's jumper though which is three more than the day before.

have a load of washing to hang before I leave so better hustle.

happy knitting :)

Morning all
The lilies are beautiful, I have some tiger lilies in flower but no Christmas lilies although the neighbour has a prolific one which I enjoy looking at each year.

Great about your eyes Carole hope it stays that way.

Was going for a picnic today in Masterton to meet up with other family but the weather there doesn't look the best and B-i -L not well so have postponed it for the time being, not keen on a 3 hour drive there to find that we are washed out and BiL being a bigger grouch than usual lol.

So can now go and get some more wool and may even get over to Hastings to see what Spotlight have although that is far from being my favourite shop but I would like some more knitting cotton and they have the cheapest it seems.

Safe travels Kiwimade

Morning everyone, Beautiful flowers everyone. My stepfather used to grow lovely lillies.
Great news about your eyes Carole, long may they stay that way.
Overcast here again but the humidity isn't too bad today yay.

Lol at Maddy. Mummy and Daddy are going to have to watch what they say lol...

Spotlight have a massive sale on at the mo Jayem, 30% off all wool, not sure if that includes knitting cotton but I imagine it would.

Quiet day here. Just drifting through time at the mo... Cant wait for winter when I will feel more alive .

Have a good day everyone and stay safe on the roads

catching up on housework today, plant a few plants, spray a few weeds, then feet up to knit. Our grandy has gone home and now things will stay put for a while lol. Was an absolute joy to have her and her mum for a few days. What's the bet I find a few things left behind :P

happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Glad you enjoyed your time with your Girls Kiwimade... Yup bet you find toys at least lol

A cooler night finally last night. Missy even slept on me again. And is snuggly today too.
MrP had a rough night so is staying in bed while I shop.. yay it will be done a lot faster. Not that I need much.

Did 5 hearts and 2 stockings yesterday. Have 65 hearts and 62 stockings now. MrP says I hope you have a market for all that work., I felt like throwing it at him. I've been feeling soo good and positive doing it all and he rained on my parade. But Ill keep going.

Well Im off out early while its cooler..

Have a good day all

popeye333 - 2015-01-22 08:20:00
6474

Morning ladies. I wonder why they're like that popeye? That's just the sort of thing Mr K would say to me. I could throttle him at times!

Patiently waiting for my Deramores order, and was hoping I would get to Spotlight while the yarn sale is still on so that I can get the yarn I forgot to order from Deramores, but I phoned Harvey Norman yesterday and they're not expecting my washing machine to be in till the end of the month/beginning of next month, so looks like I will miss out on the yarn sale. I'll just have to delay that project till a later date.

I was so proud of my efforts. A while back I bought a set of bamboo dpns on here, about 18 or 20 different sizes, five of each needle, so I thought I'd be clever and make a pouch for them. Well I needed to make two pouches because there's so many needles. Job done and I was so pleased, and was about to take a photo and show everyone, when I spied a set of 3.25mm needles sitting on top of my knitting bag with a half knitted sock on, so there was no gap in the pouch for them - well there is, but it is right at one end after the 5.5 or 6mm needles. I was quite peed off. I don't have enough fabric to make a third one the same. I have to make two more for a friend as she also bought a set so I will have to make sure I get hers right.

Much cooler this morning. Might do some gardening and plant my calla lilies. I planted some lettuce yesterday - haven't looked yet to see if they are standing up or droopy. Fingers crossed.

Have a super day everyone.

kuaka - 2015-01-22 08:33:00
6475

Morning all
Just heard on the news that new year resolutions usually run out this week so you are right on track Whiskey.

Oh dear Kuaka re the needle pouches it's so frustrating when something like that happens (but secretly pleased that I'm not the only one who does things like that lol)

Second load of washing in then off to the shops to stock up as have visitors arriving tomorrow for the weekend so better have food on hand for them, have a piece of corn beef in the slow cooker as a start, that can be cold for picnics or whatever.

Finished Miss Italy's cardy and hat so now need to finish a little jacket that just needs a collar before starting anything new.

happy knitting - or crochet everyone or sewing for Popeye

jayemtoo - 2015-01-22 08:52:00
6476

I don't know why Kuaka, although I suspect it could be cos they see us "working" and they aren't and feel useless about it.. I sat for nearly two hours without doing anything, and then thought nah stuff it Ill carry on regardless of what he thinks. Its not like Im buying anything to make it. Its all stuff I had here anyway.

I think the yarn sale is on till Feb 1st Kuaka so you might be lucky.

I have all my needles in Tall pringles chip tins. Makes a heck of a noise when Im going through them, but I like noise. You should hear me in the pot cupboard lol.

Home, groceries put away and MrP has just hit the lounge... I can whizz around much faster without him, but I like to take him to make him walk a bit. Otherwise the most he does is to the mailbox and back, the rest of the time he is on the couch, and he wonders why he is putting weight on.

Other than a few dishes Im done for the day lol

popeye333 - 2015-01-22 09:42:00
6477

Popeye, Mr K doesn't even go to the mailbox these days, he hasn't been out of the house since about 3rd January, and has only been down the stairs once since then. He isn't putting on weight, he's losing it, lost about 10kg in a couple of months. He refuses to see the doctor, so I give up.

If I miss out on Spotlights sale, I'll just have to wait for the next one.

kuaka - 2015-01-22 10:20:00
6478

That's sad Kuaka... hes just given up and convinced he is at the end, by the sounds of it.
Its the most I can get MrP to do is go to the mailbox. He has done the dishes the last couple of days, cos I made sure I was doing something for him , and he then helped me.. Which doesn't happen often that's for sure.

Just had to call the bank they mucked up some instructions I emailed down on Monday grr... So there goes any spare money I had for possibly going to spotlight next Thursday.

Oh well I have plenty to keep me busy

popeye333 - 2015-01-22 10:25:00
6479

Well if I was peed off this morning about my sewing stuff-up, that's nothing to how I'm feeling now having been gardening for a couple of hours. I decided I would bring a huge terracotta pot up from the lower garden because it was just sitting there with dry potting mix and an almost dead plant, and I would put it on the edge of the lawn and plant it. I did think about turfing out the potting mix and the plant, but decided it wouldn't make much difference to the weight as the mix was so dry. So just as I'm about to start lugging it up the steps from the lower garden to the top garden, the plant caught on another plant, stopping me in my tracks and the pot crashed to the ground and shattered. It couldn't have landed on the lawn, had to land on a paving slab. Probably would have broken even on the lawn, but I'm so cheesed off. If I'd taken the plant out it wouldn't have got caught, so now I'll have to buy another and I dread to think how much that will cost. Bugger!

kuaka - 2015-01-22 14:16:00
6480

Ohhh Kuaka That's not good at all... And they sure aint cheap either. Could you go for plastic terracotta look? I have two out the front of our ranchslider with geraniums in... Probably long over due for being lifted and cut back.

Ive cut stiffening, ironed it on, marked and then cut out with the pinking sheers, 27 more hearts. .. MrPs comment I hope your not going to a lot of trouble for nothing... Lol...
I will have to make sure I sell them, just to prove him wrong. Ill be making many more, so he has to get used to it.

popeye333 - 2015-01-22 15:33:00
6481

morning ladies :) Ohh buggar kuaka! What a pain in the proverbial. Those pots can be heavy too, I know how hard it can be to lug them around.

meh, men, popeye! Sometimes, ok, more than sometimes lol, they forget to engage the brain before they speak. And I've noticed older guys tend to think they don't need to worry about what they say. That's why they need women like us, to remind them they do need to think!

Have just finished my coffee so I'm heading outside while there is no wind to spray some weeds. Got the last of my plants (for a while anyway lol) in yesterday, haven't grown asters before so will see how they 'do'. I'm hoping to start sanding down my wooden chairs today ready for painting.

I've been looking at the photos of everyone's work on FB, so productive! Hopefully I can get back into crafting soon.

Happy knitting :)

morning girls you lot have been busy,. I phoned Brother on Wednesday and they called me back yesterday the outcome was great the head of there sewing deptment is going to come up and give me free lessions on the 2 new machine and the boss guy is going to speak the shop person about why he shouted at me. been a lot happier now. getting Miss E jacket done well too. she loves the jacket her mum said was too small and wears it when with me on hot days too. bought gold buttons for it.

Morning everyone.

Your right Kiwimade, men often forget to engage the brain before they speak.
Im carrying on regardless of what he thinks. And Ill cross my fingers they sell lol.
Glad you have "Brother" sorted out Carole. HAd to read that twice to realise you meant the machine company not your Brother (if you have one ) lol

Making MrP come out and do bloods this morning, HbA1c's so dr has the results before we go next week. Will pop into the oppy to drop of some of His clothes that have "shrunk" in the wardrobe lol.

Have sore ribs again this morning. I know I carried the shopping in yesterday but it wasn't heavy. And that's the only reason I can think of why they are sore. started last night. Im sure they just do it to remind me of my surgery every so often lol.

Have a good day everyone...

popeye333 - 2015-01-23 08:57:00
6484

weeds sprayed, big heavy concrete urn moved (with MrK's help) and I've painted the facia (sp?) boards some of the new guttering needs to be attached too. So a good morning's effort I think and time for a cuppa. At this rate, I may get some knitting done!

kiwimade64 - 2015-01-23 09:23:00
6485

Rub it in kiwimade - I should have waited and had someone help me with the big terracotta pot. Too late now, no use crying over spilt milk.

On the up side, I did manage to complete a pouch for the dpns yesterday, so will try to make another one today. Yesterday's one was for the smaller needles, today's will be for the fatter ones. And if I have time, I might unpick some of the stitching on the original one and alter it to take all the needles in the right order. "Maybe" !!

Phone call from the surgery this morning. The x-rays on my back were fine, so it must either be muscular or a pinched nerve I'm guessing.

Sister phoned last night and said it's minus 1 degree where she is on the south coast which is the warm part of the UK! I don't envy her at all.

popeye I've got the same problem with some of my clothes, they've shrunk in the wardrobe. I blame the humid weather.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2015-01-23 11:09:00
6486

Ohhh minus 1... bring it on lol...

Annoying when you don't know what is causing pain eh... Hope it fixes itself fast Kuaka.

We went and did our bloods, I don't expect them to be very good...

Went to the oppy and spent a massive $2-90 which was 1.7 meters of a scarlet red nylon type fabric, a square of gingham that will make two hearts a cushion and a Children's Press Book. Grimms Fairy tales.

The cushion I got for the inner, so ill whip up another cushion for CMA. To match the other one, even tho its a little bigger.

I had a look at the contents of the book, most of them Ive never heard of.. There was only 2-3 I knew, which is strange lol... And I was most pleased when I got home to check that I didn't already have it.

Will sit and sew hearts this afternoon I think.. Although I am missing my crochet hook so I might do that instead. lol.

Shhhh but MrP is funny cos he will see someone on tv with a big man tummy and say look at the size of him.... Most of the time MrP is bigger. He has no idea, cos he never looks in the full length mirror. Hes in for a shock if he ever does.
He was a skinny 9 stone when I got him, hes easily double that now Id guess

Have a good afternoon everyone

what a day I have had went to supermarket came out to flat tyre and it's going to cost me 4 new tyres as they can't match them. $800 and with out car most of the day now

Ohhh not good Carole.. but at least you will have safe driving.

popeye333 - 2015-01-23 13:24:00
6489

ouch carolev - I'm seriously thinking about treating myself to a new overlocker and Mr K says "why, there's nothing wrong with the one you've got and it's new" - yes, well it was new when I bought it, but that was before I met him, so must be at least 20 years old, probably more!

Also, I think my poor little old Elna could do with a service. Every now and again, when I put my foot on the "throttle", you can hear the motor going but nothing happens, until I gently turn the wheel, so I suspect something is dirty and not making contact or something is wearing out. Can't complain. I think I bought it in 1975 or 1976.

I've done the needle pouches, all four of them now, two for me and two for my friend. Just have to sew buttons on two of them. Yippee. Think I might indulge in one of Mr Ks cans of beer. I'm so thirsty. That'll teach me to have bacon and egg for breakfast.

kuaka - 2015-01-23 14:46:00
6490

it was your experience with the pot that made me ask Mrk for help kuaka lol. Normally I would struggle along and do it myself and it would be my luck I would break it!

managed to get about four rows done before I fell asleep on the couch. At this rate Maddy will have grown out of this jumper before I finish it!

Am going to paint the windows and doors, am sick of waiting for the builder. What's the bet I start painting and they decide to do their bit! Bit like putting the kettle on and someone arrives to visit lol.

Ouch carole, did you use your gold card? Beaurepaires give 10% off to gold card holders.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-01-23 15:09:00
6491

Funny you should say about Using Kuakas event to get you to ask for help Kiwimade. I also will normally do things myself too.. Miss independence MrP calls me.
But I see no need to worry him and a lot of the times he will want to do things His way when I want something done My way. So I generally do things in secret.. lol. Saves the agro if I can do something myself.

I got my hook out and have about 6 more rows to do for the cushion front. Ill make it the same as the first one and attach the crochet to a calico cover which I will sew. I love working with calico. Hopefully they will sell for CMA.

popeye333 - 2015-01-23 15:44:00

And here's a pic of my efforts on the dpns pouches. One pair for me, one pair for my friend. I'll get her to choose. I wonder which ones she'll pick.

The ones folded up are empty, they look better when they're full, and the needles which are missing are on wips.

Those pouches look great Kuaka and so useful.

Have my sister and her husband, daughter and little grand daughter staying at the moment so a full house. We met up with my other sister and her daughter and 2 little ones for pizza in the park last evening it was such a lovely evening. I think they are planning on shopping this morning so I will stay and entertain the 2 three year olds which will be a lot more fun I'm sure.

Can't see much knitting getting done but that will keep.

Have a good day everyone.

morning ladies :) Love the pouches kuaka, awesome idea. I would pick the dark blue one :P

Pizza in the park sounds wonderful, jayemtoo. Much cooler inside than out at the moment and the kids would love playing on the swings and climbing frames too.

Painting for me today, door frames and windows. If the day becomes as hot as they say, I should be able to get both coats of paint on. Then I can scrape the paint of the glass tomorrow as I'm not using masking tape.

Maybe get some knitting done but it just gets too hot.

Happy knitting :)

carolev - 2015-01-24 09:06:00

Morning everyone... Love the needle pouches Kuaka, and I too would chose the Blue one. but I like them both and such a great idea.

Im having a "I hate the mess beside me day" today, well it started last night. My chair is beside a bookcase MrP made and a set of drawers. they are both full of junk. So this morning Im going to park me Butt on the floor and have a good cleanout. Then hopefully I can put my crafts on the shelf instead of having bags on the floor.

Its something I enjoy doing and will get me started in that frame of mind. As Im helping a friend declutter her house this week when shes on holiday. she knows Im ruthless , and she needs that. I told her to get some plastic bins, bags and rubbish stickers so what does get thrown out can go straight out into the rubbish collection.

I finished the cushion cover last night. Will sew the ends in later today and make it up tomorrow. I enjoy sewing in the morning so will do it then.

We were going to go out and pick blackberries last night and got wrapped up watching Homicide Hunter and forgot. And it was too dark by the time that finished. So ill crack the whip tonight after How the West was won..

MrP is still in bed... So its peaceful at the mo lol

Have a good day everyone

well I flagged painting for now and am out tidying up where the cherry tree was pulled out by a digger. Heavy concrete slabs moved (by myself too!) and some soil thrown into the hole. mrK came with me onto the neighbours farm to get some sand to fill in the gaps - and yes, we had permission to go. So should finish today/tomorrow depending how hot it gets.

I've been decluttering for a while now popeye and I must admit it is liberating! My oak cabinet is empty, can't believe it lol. It can stay that way until the carpet goes down as it's heavy to move. And why bother filling it only to empty it so it can be moved.

I'm hoping to get some knitting done this afternoon, will find a cool spot by a window. I need to get this jumper finished!

Happy knitting :)

I spent two hours emptying 2 drawers and my bookcase. A lot was old bills etc. so I methodically took them out of the envelopes, took my address off those that have it typed on. Binned the rest, well into the recycle. It condenses the bills down heaps.
Now have two practically empty drawers, just a couple of books and a clip board in one. And have my sewing bags and small basket on the shelves instead of over the arm and seat of the chair next to me.

Missy Helped the whole time lol.. He reward... A worm pill lol hehe.

So now a play on here and then Ill sew the ends in on the cushion..

Feels good to have it not so cluttered again.

Was much cooler this morning and I changed my mind on the barbecue I had planned to do for tonight, apart from which I had forgotten to get the steak out of the freezer and I figured by the time it had defrosted I wouldn't have time to marinate it, so chicken breasts for tea instead, and we'll have a barbecue tomorrow. Course it turned out stinking hot again so a bbq would have been super tonight. Maybe it will be the same tomorrow.

I decided that I had better get cracking and make the replacement curtain for the one which our previous little puss ripped to shreds, especially seeing as at the beginning of the week I finally did my son's curtain tie backs and sent them to him, and he phoned yesterday to say he'd received them (hasn't picked up the curtain from Mr Ks daughter yet as he thought she was still up here) but he said he couldn't believe how much his curtains have faded. I thought I'd better make the new one before the rest fade too much.

So:

it wasn't long before the help arrived.

And then:

I bundled the pieces up and plonked them on the back of the settee while I put the roll of fabric away, the pieces slipped to the floor and little puss thought it was a great place to hide!!!!

I hope she leaves them alone once they're finished and hung.

Right, time to put my feet up for half an hour, and have a glass of something while I do a few rows of knitting.

Happy knitting everyone.

Well it's a year, almost to the minute, since Mr K had his accident and broke his neck. I could never have envisaged how this past year would play out, and I could never have got through it without the love and support of my friends, both real and on-line. So if you have cheered me up when I've been down, or in any other way helped and supported me, I'd just like to say "thank you" - I couldn't have got through this year without you. xox
