THE NEW COIN CLUB

#Post
6451

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

If you have a problem with an auction why not raise it with the seller? Why bring it here?

I suspect too much is being read into this. I thought an amusing slip (describing three items as "both") was being pointed out to raise a smile. Not sure that's actually a problem for anybody.

Several reasons:
Sometimes it's nice to get the considered opinions of more knowledgable people, many of whom hang about in here.

Often sellers who are just flicking something off don't care about sneering detailed questions, particularly if they are not coin collectors themselves.

Amongst collectors there can be different interpretations of common terms. A well-intended question can be misconstrued as sabotage. Then there are some shonky sellers out there, and getting a question phrased just right is important.

ATTN: trelawney1, are you out there?

if so, when you get that 1940 Florin (a very smart buy if I may say so), would you mind posting a few quality photos. There is disagreement in here over the grade, and also possible cleaning. Cheers!

seller kindly added a few more photos 901536261

cleaned/polished possibly?

bidding seems high if there is a possibility of light polishing.

I suppose if these do turn out to be lightly polished, they could be resold on to silly buggers. There are enough of them about.

1933 Florin appears to be fetching about $360 these days.
The 1/2CR can probably command $400 from the right silly bugger.
the shilling $250
6P $100
3P 50

so about $1160 all up. So bidding up to about seven or eight hundred will be profitable. I think I'll flag it.

I think that's the key point with this particular item - it isn't just about the coins with this one.

that tatty taped up old box?

I recall an empty one on trademe not too long ago. Went for about $50, if I remember correctly (or maybe I don't???)

you said it alright chefman. You were having a right whinge about all the cleaned coins you'd been sold. Don't make me go back and find it. You will be made to look the fool!!

btw if and when I clean my coins I use proper methods. I don't clean valuable coins. I wouldn't be surprised if half you so called expert traders in here weren't selling a few cleaned coins yourselfs. No wonder there is a phobia over the excellent US of A grading. It would show you guys up, that's for sure. I'd trust pcgs and ngc over most of the mediocre NZ grading I have seen!!

let's be honest for a change. Many sellers don't give a stuff about whether their products are quality, and value for money. They don't care if they rip people off. And if they think someone is trying to sabotage their auction, then they obviously have something to hide.

You will be made to look the fool!

the only fool around here is you.....you only collect valuable coins..well thats a
laugh and a half..so why come in here and ask the so call experts what they think
about that coin or that coin.
then you call the experts idiots or numnuts for not bidding on that coin.
do you know what a unc coin looks like dtpaps???

of course I know what an unc coin looks like. I wont be asking the so called experts any more questions, as it is clear that they are more clique than expert. From now on I will only be buying pcgs and ngc coins. That's the only way to be sure of not getting shafted.

I agree muzz it is all fun and games until someone takes it seriously.

We are all entitled to an opinion and we do not have to agree on everything and it is more fun when we dont lol

But hey its is graded MS63 from that Grading company you trust so much. Does not matter who you buy from or what company grades it different people will have a different opinion every time. This is why people send coins back time after time to get a better grade from these companies.

I dont think NGC know how to grade NZ pennies / 1/2 pennies here is another one lol
