Hi Julie,
morning everyone. It's nice to know Pam has raised the standard in my kitchen by supplying me with a tool that recognised chefs also use :)
I watched the programme - was a little bit Nigella Lawson in presentation at times (that slightly sappy way of speaking to the camera like it's a best friend annoys me a little) but still a good show. The 'buy my book if you want the recipes' plug irritated too as most TV cooking shows make the recipes available online these days ... but I haven't followed up on this to see if we really have to buy her book to get them.

Nice to open the curtains to blue sky this morning ... long may it last!!!
I'm off to the theatre tonight.
My landlord is the director of the play 'Popcorn' by Ben Elton and has given me free tickets. I'm taking Mum & Mr D ... their 1st meeting! I figure the theatre is as good an opportunity as any :)
I may need a glass of vino before hand!

Happy day all :)

Ah ... NO Pam!
I'm planting myself firmly in the middle at the theatre!
More control that way - lol :)
My course starts on the 20th ... getting closer.
Can't wait ... but was talking to Mr D about it last night - once I've started & got work too I'm sure I'll be missing this time I've had as 'a lady of leisure'. It'll all be worth it though & I'm still very excited about my future!

Juliewn .Annabel's holiday getaway!!!!!is at Wanaka and that is where the show is. Looks idyllic.
Winnie..some of her those recipes are in back copies of Life and Leisure...so will probably be available online..agree she can be a bit gushy but easy watching and none of that excessive yelling dialogue that you get in some US shows!

Thanks neil_di ... I just had a look on TVNZ - they have a couple of the recipes from each week plus a link to Annabel's website. I've entered a comp to win a copy of the book. Fingers crossed :)

We need a new photo of Ziggy - I bet he's grown alot since we saw him last!
The walks will be good for both of you - yay - spring :)
I've lost one size since moving to Chch ... and I don't want to find it again!
I can't say how though!!!

Lol fisher ... the saying comes to mind - 'My only worry is that when I die,my wife sells my fishing gear, for what I said I paid for it.'

I survived THE meet & came out unscathed! No embarrassing stories told ... no awkward moments :)
And only one glass of red at the theatre then one after when it was all over!!!
The play was very good - alot of swearing & adult humour but if Mum handled it then anyone can.
So if you're in Chch and looking for a good night out - I recommend going to see 'Popcorn'
http://www.topdogtheatre.com/

Out to a friends for curry tonight ... yum!!!
I love it when someone else is doing the cooking & this mate is quite passionate about his Indian food.

Life is good!

Oh Pam - love and best wishes to you.
Mum is a fellow sufferer so I know first hand how debilitating migraines can be.
I hope you have a quiet & pleasant but still rewarding day today and recover quickly.

Morning all.
Pam - I'm glad you're feeling better :) Hope you have a great day today.
I'm off to Nelson for the day to see my surgeon and for an xray on my hand. It still irrates me alot so will be interesting to hear what he thinks is the best move now .... if any. It'll be the last time I see him as ACC will require me to be transferred to a Chch surgeon for any further treatment.
I've got Mr D picking me up from the airport tonight & then it's surprise night for me. No idea what he has planned this time but I'm sure it will be nice :)
Looks like a gorgeous day outside - the perfect day for flying & seeing our beautiful country in all it's glory! When I booked my tickets & I put in a seat request to make sure I was clear of the wings! Hope this works out :)
Have a fabulous day all ...

Here in Hamilton we are expecting nasty weather. I have three lines of washing in the carport and a terrace waiting to be waterblasted. I cleared all the pot plants off yesterday so hoping that Saturday is clear. I have a very heavy ponga statue that I could only roll over to its side. We had another ponga statue of a man/woman part way down our native gully. It was in two parts and we discovered the other day that the top portion had been stolen. Neal had built a lovely house for her out of half rounds and I always felt she guarded our gully. There are some creeps around.

Evening all...

Busy Busy last couple of days... Still not 100%... I am over this sore throat... I think its our air con at work.. filters need cleaning.. so I go to work healthy and get sick during the day... does that make sense? I have made training 3 times this week so thats a good start.

I have a friend arriving back to NZ today and leaving to go North to family Sunday so I opened my mouth.. and now I have about 20ish people coming tommorrow night for a pot luck dinner! ... So tommorrow I will be giving the house a long overdue top to bottom clean...

Know what its like when you have a "Really good idea" and as soon as you open your mouth you wish you could suck it back in..... It will be fab to catch up though.. If we all went out for dinner you would talk to the people next to you and that would be about it.. this way we can chill and chat all night..... The only good thing i did was to make it pot luck... so I will make brown rice salad.. chicken nibbles and see what other delights other people bring.

Have a great weekend ladies.. and Rae if you need advice re ACC email me.. I know a little about it. Love the baby Charlie...and a belated happy birthday Pam.. doesn't seem like yesterday...are your neighbours behaving?

We are west of Christchurch and had a very shaky awakening this morning - and are still being shaken at regular intervals which is a bit unnerving. We've been really lucky with just a few books out of cases two broken bits of pottery and we still have water and power. Lots of people had much worse damage and much of ChCh still has no power, water or sewage still. We've been advised to stay off the roads so can't even really go and see what help is needed even with cleaning up. I imagine the supermarkets etc are in a terrible state. I hate to think what state our office is in - building so old it may just be flat. At least no-one has been killed. If it had been an hour earlier when the centre city streets would still have been full it might have been so much worse. Hope all other ChCh TMers are OK. Maybe if anyone needs any help they could post a request?

Hi all,

I'm fine & I think my apartment is ok but waiting for the landlord to come & check. A very terrifying moment this morning with my place being on the 1st floor & swaying heavily.

Had Mr D with me - so we did have a laugh once the initial jolt was over about the earth moving for us! ;-)

I'm at Mum's now as I had no power or water at home but will need to go back and check on things later.
Mum has damage to her chimney & garage & Mr D went home to find a collapsed chimney but his house ok otherwise.
We're still getting aftershocks which are quite scary. Some of them are fairly strong.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

We didn't fare too well with some structural damge, cracked tiles concrete driveway buckled, massive crater in the back lawn. The roads in spencerville are buckled and split and thick layers of silt all over the ground. The most terrifying moment of my life listening to our house grinding and cracking and stuff smashing ...really thought all we owned was a gonner but amazingly nothing fell off the walls just broken bits and pieces and the great tthing is it gets you talking to neighbours whom you've never met. Our new wee grandaughter slept thru it all..lucky poppet!!The aftershocks(under normal circumstances we'd refer to these as quakes!!)are a constant reminder. So pleased we had all our emergency stuff BUT no water and** heres a tip** soda water makes very acceptable tea. Thinking of all who are contemplating the aftermath. Cheers Di
