| I heard on the news that the supermarkets turnovers were down due to the fact that people were buying more "home brands" If they are just as good as the others (often from the same factory) why not! toadfish - 2008-07-15 06:41:00 |
| I agree toady home brands are not to bad but in this house they do need disguising, and I am a good magicain. We still have watties tomato sauce spag & BB but everyting else is pams probably, bread well what ever is the best specials and as i have explined I can disguise it,its a shame we didnt have no frill petrol stations do you think the men would mind stopping at those NO I THINKK NOT but say your buying a budget loo roll or budget soap and god dam there s**t girl is the reply you get, so god dam honey youve been wiping your ar** with it for years I think to myself with a cheessy grin , what they dont know LOL girls have a great day....and keep smiling kob - 2008-07-15 06:52:00 |
| PMSL kob, you are soooo right... mere male here refused to eat anything but WATTIES tomatoe sauce, so last year I did buy a WATTIES tom sce bottle and when it was gone, have filled it up ever since with PAMS sauce, not one comment has been made HOWEVER, needed a new bottle so splashed out on the "WATTIES" bottle again and used it as normal the first time and what did I get "this sauce taste funny love, is it Watties because it's not as nice as it usually is"??? ROFLMAO, I could honestly tell him then that is was Watties at that time but what a crack up, little did he know he was actually 'prefering' Pam's, bless him... :o) jenna68 - 2008-07-15 07:11:00 |
| i know jenna i have a girlfriend who takes my plum and makes a nicer sauce than i do so when her jar is half empty i top it up with mine and give a good shake, so in all honesty im not lying when he says D made a spicy batch this time but still piles it on his chops.......i do draw the line to budget spag its either so full of noodles and no sauce or the other way around, i will use it for pizza or bread cases and nothing else, thes really are the tricks of the trade. kob - 2008-07-15 10:44:00 |
| well another months liquid soap made all ready and waiting on the laundry window sill waiting to be used, added eucoliptus oil this time so will be nioce for the towels and pillowslips.....tidied up the freezer and found a bag of liver & a couple of flaps so have boiled those up and they will stretch the pet food for the week ahead, heading away for the weekend so a major stock take of all departments was needed as i wiould rather have my money this week than new world!!! LOL got heaps of everything it seemed I knew I would have but you know how it gets, son is doing part time work on a farm at the mo while he waits to join the army so the farm killed mautton is looking really good in the freezer will never so no to free meat, the golfers keep me in chickens so it just the other nights needed to be supplied for, and for work night 3 before next payday I have my meals already in the freezer, devilled saus, sweet & sour pork and mince stew so quick and easy kob - 2008-07-16 10:06:00 |
| another tip for you all This month I have been a little under the whether and suffering from a stomach problem which has caused extremeley bad halitosis anyway after trying out many things I reread my handy tips booklet and it gave me the tip that brushing my teeth and tounge with baking soda first rinsing then brushing with toothpaste as normal would work and blow mw down it does so after spending about 30 bucks on sh** that didnt work the good old Baking soda wins again.......just thought it might help someone else. kob - 2008-07-16 10:50:00 |
| asta made this on todays good morning show Thought what a great idea to make this again this used to be around about 20 yuears ago....I know now im showing my age but it did along with the friendship muffins we all were making the 14 day coleslaw.....14-day coleslaw ....... Place above in a pot and bring to the boil and allow to cool. Into a big lidded plastic container add: 1 finely chopped large cabbage Pour over sauce and toss thoroughly. Lid and keep in the fridge. kob - 2008-07-16 13:57:00 |
| oh dear for a moment (or 5) I thought this thread had gone, phew....it's still here! sudy - 2008-07-17 23:11:00 |
| i have just made... my own "green"(not the colour) spray and wipe and the washing maching solution, i feel sooo proud nadine10 - 2008-07-18 12:07:00 |
| Left Overs tonight Finished up the rest of Thursdays Bacon hock soup. Used Pams Soup mix instead of a kings packet, about 10% of the price and a couple of teaspoons of chicken stock seemed to fix what it was missing. Then used last nights roast pork dinner left overs (veges & a little Meat), cubed up and added 1/2 cup flour,1 cup of milk, 3 eggs, 3 teaspoons oil, 1 cup of grated cheese... and made a crustless quiche... so tonights tea was the cost of the eggs & cheese and was delicious! toadfish - 2008-07-18 18:45:00 |
| great thread bit concerned though: on back of Lux flakes pkt it has warning not to use for extended period of time in washing machine. Suggests putting commercial washing pwder through machine about every 10th wash. (because of soap scum build up in w/machine) (very expensive if motor burns out.) - also noted on Pams milk pwder it contains soy as well milk pwder. jesse83 - 2008-07-18 23:56:00 |
| Jesse, I have always used white vinegar as a cleaning agent for my washing machine which removes the soap buildup. Now what I do is use the vinegar as fabric softener in every wash so does the same job. cautis - 2008-07-19 11:25:00 |
| cautis sounds like a good idea, how much vinegar do you use? jesse83 - 2008-07-19 12:27:00 |
| I was told by a washing machine repair man to put a hot wash through every couple of weeks with dishwashing powder. shellbell13 - 2008-07-19 12:29:00 |
| Jesse I probably use about 1/4 cup max per load. cautis - 2008-07-19 14:50:00 |
| dont buy stocks for soups etc everytime you drain that precious liquid from your cooked veges, pour it into a container or cup and freeze it. Then put frozen cups into a freezer bag and hey presto instant yummy stock next time you make veg soup. Its lovvvely! argo - 2008-07-20 10:47:00 |
| Where can you buy celery seeds as I haven't seen any for ages? midnight42 - 2008-07-20 12:30:00 |

| try bin inn for celery seeds etc as you can buy as little or as much as you like. our one here in Gore has a wonderful stock of all sorts aof stuff and i am already laying aside stock up for christmas and keeping in a cool dark place. fruit salad is 89c a tin at woolies this week and home brand pinapple is 85c a tin so got 2 of each for christmas. i bottle my own fruit but its nice to have a treat in the fruit salad! i have noticed that there are a number of 'treat' foods on special each week so getting a bit at a time. home brand stuff is not to bad at all and most of my shopping is that now. blessings for the day all! timetable - 2008-07-21 10:34:00 |

| Finished the roast chicken? Possibly not. I have done this the last two times we've had roast chicken. Put the carcase into a pot with water and add some chicken stock. Boil for a while and add very finely cubed carrot (grated if preferred)some finely chopped onion and finely chopped celery. When all the veges are cooked, take out the carcase and cool. Then pick it to pieces, it's amazing how much meat is still there. Add the meat to the pot, bring to the boil and add a packet of noodles. My other half thinks it's wonderful. lulu239 - 2008-07-28 13:55:00 |
| Friendly Toilet Disinfectant I have found this to be a really good way of freshening & cleaning the toilet and have also used on wc seat, vanity top & basin....spray on and then rinse with clean water. trademequeen - 2008-07-28 20:50:00 |
| kob do you have a laundry recipe that has lux flakes and sunlight soap? ... and would anyone have a shampoo recipe? thanks winnie15 - 2008-07-30 13:32:00 |
| FABRIC SOFTENER Make your own fabric softener and save on commercial products. All you need is: 250 gm Lux soap powder METHOD: Mix all ingredients and keep in screw top jar. Using one tablespoon in a basin of warm water, soak the garment. No rinsing is needed, just drip-dry. This mix is recommended for reviving woollens too! winnie15 - 2008-07-30 13:37:00 |
| clean your washing machine..... If you want to give your washing machine a really good clean out, put a packet of Epsom Salts into a bucket full of warm water [to dissolve them], tip it into your washing machine, then set your machine on a normal cycle.[without clothes!] Let the whole cycle run through and you will be amazed at how clean your machine will be after it. winnie15 - 2008-07-30 13:39:00 |

| winniw white vinegar will do exactly the same as well, also good for jugs, coffe machines dishwasher etc etc kob - 2008-07-31 06:38:00 |
| jess83 if you read the back of the washing soda pkt like you did the lux one it will tell you that the washing soda is great for removing grease and grim so in itself will work as a cleaning agent in the washing machine thats why it is useless for cleaning whites as they go grey......that was my point when I placed this mix up on here of saying not intended for washing whites, cause homesostly I have tried and retried and just ruined a great favourite top and even nappysan cannot revive it......so PLEASE dont use my washing mix for WHITES its gr8 for evertything else just not whites kob - 2008-07-31 06:41:00 |

| home made pasta sauce: 1 catering can of tom paste. put in a large pot and add as follows - to begin with add another half another half a can of cold water, a good nob of butter, a good splash of soya and worshire sauce, at least 4 cloves of crushed garlic, any of the following: finaly chopped parsley, thyme, tarragon, chives, onion, capsican, 2 tsp raw sugar. then slowly bring up to the boil stiring all the time. salt and pepper to taste and any more herbs to your own taste likeing. add extra water at this stage if too thick, so that you thin it down to your desired thickness. you can really add anything to this one i have added chopped courgettes cos had a heap in the green house. then bottle in hot preserving jars, keeping the pasta sauce simmering as you do so. it preservs well and i use it as the base for my homemade pizza also. blessings! timetable - 2008-07-31 13:10:00 |
| hi winnie ....no im sorry i dont but i do know that you ca use the grated sunlight soap instead of the lux flakes and make the soap liquid that way, but as for a recipe together no I dont kob - 2008-07-31 18:15:00 |
| ok thaks kob :o) winnie15 - 2008-08-01 12:46:00 |

| Hi Bigeyez I see from the thread above that you use washing soda for your dishwasher. Do you add anything else with the washing soda and roughly how much do you put into the dishwasher for each load?? TIA guitarman525 - 2008-08-01 14:08:00 |
