Gonna beat you to the top today Carole lol

think it might depend on the weight of the stiffening popeye, whether that's a good deal or not.

I buy mine by the roll 50 meters was $400 but I also got some off dilli and I buy the wash away stiffing too that $10.50 a meter

Morning everyone

Your right of course Kuaka... I only need very light stiffening. Otherwise it might get tricky hand sewing it. Ill get some of the one I found on here and see what its like. The piece I've just cut up I must have had for 15 years at least lol

I have 24 hearts prepared now. So I can make them up at my leisure. The sewing, stuffing and decorating take much less time than all the cutting ironing etc.

The lawn boys shouldn't be too far away, hence being out of bed slightly earlier lol.

Its overcast at the mo. I didn't see the weather so don't know what its going to be like, other that hot lol.

Might sort the hotwater cupboard out.. Ive been trying to get to it for a couple of weeks

Hope all is well with Kiwimade, perhaps out mowing while its cooler

Have a good day everyone

morning ladies :) lol popeye, you were close. Have come in from two hours out in the garden finishing off the weeding. Wanted to get it done before the day got too hot.

The Furry One cornered a rat in the wee hours and MrK had to go outside around 3.30am with the lead to drag him back inside. He wouldn't stop barking. So now he is back at the same spot checking it out. Hopefully he scared the rat off and it won't be back. It was only because his shoulders were too wide for the gap that he didn't get it.

Dishes for me, then I'm going to sand down the two outdoor chairs ready for painting. MrK is already out in his workshop creating something. Then shower, into town to the garden centre and home to knit. The days go by in a flash lately!

Happy knitting :)

Thank you Carole, that will be awesome.

Gosh Kiwimade the vermin must be getting hungry eh.. Glad the Furry one didn't get through the gap.
Our foxy boy we had, his mum went down a rabbit hole and never came out. The owners ended up getting one of diggers pups. They are just soo determined to get the animals eh

Ive finally tidied the hot water cupboard. Cant get over the two shelves of cake tins, muffin trays etc I have. Missy Helped me lol..

Then I parked myself on the floor and pulled a fan apart. gave it a good clean and put it back together. And it worked. I think it just had too much crud on the fins to put out any wind.

While I was doing it, I came across these two screws in the back. The rest were normal Phillips ones.. Ive never seen triangle heads before... Very strange
http://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/356999998.jpg

Missy also helped and went for every screw I took out lol.

Have done a couple of stockings. Will sew after lunch

popeye333 - 2015-01-12 12:32:00
6409

What we thought was a rat was a baby rabbit and the Furry One has just caught it. Persistence pays off in the long run.

Time for me to put my feet up.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.. Going to be another scorcher I think.

Have a few things to do up town this morning... So going to try and be out as soon as possible.
The heat is starting to get me down. so I have to be carefull. I can feel myself sliding.. A lot of people get the blues in winter, I get mine in the summer.. Just to be different lol.

Poor baby rabbit lol.. wont poke its nose in where its not needed now

Have a good day all

6412

Morning ladies, cooler here this morning. I've been busy catching up on some long overdue sewing jobs and trying to avoid the heat. Nothing much changes around here, town is still full of tourists, makes it hard to find a place to park when you go in, be pleased when they've all gone back home and we can have our little town back.

Have to go shopping, was going to go today but will put it off till Thursday, seeing as it's payday today so Kerikeri will be full of little old ladies spending their pension, and tomorrow I've got knit and natter.

Hope everyone is well.

Have a great day.

kuaka - 2015-01-13 09:05:00

It will be nice to have your town back Kuaka. Tourists are good for the towns, just not good for the locals.eh.

We skipped over to Pukekohe and had a wander around our new craft shop called Necessities. Its a huge shop, nice wide isles.. Plenty of stock, still a few empty spaces but they are getting there.

They had stiffening for $2 a meter, and Gingham for $8 ( its $15 in spotlight). Heaps of stuff and its so nice that we wont have to drive 45 mins to get to it. Awesome staff. And a Black Lab who is a big handsome dude.

Not a massive range of wool but cheap enough. And plenty of cool buttons.. cute ones for kids clothes etc..

I was very pleased..

Home to hide from the heat now lol

6414

hi ladies :) had a mad dash over to Cambridge with the Furry One this morning as the new owner of the paddock is putting a new fence in. It's far too hot to have him chained up for the four days and he has never been chained up in his life. So better he has a wee 'holiday' with my dad, sister, and my sister's westie.

The new shop sounds really neat popeye, nice not to have to travel so far now.

Home now, too hot to knit so might just catch up on my reading.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-01-13 14:21:00
6415

morning ladies, the new owner of the paddock is here bright and early to finish the fence he started yesterday. So we have skill saws and hammering going. Just as well we were up.

No time for knitting today, have lawns to mow and then I'm going to start building a path in the garden using old bricks. Then I can plant fuchsias along the path as it is a shady spot and they should do well there. Will also have plenty of room for them to grow and fill in big gaps. Am going to move a garden seat to the end of the path and the concrete urn I have painted will be moved to where the seat is. A bit of juggling round but should look good and a nicer spot for the seat.

Hope everyone is well, happy knitting :)

6416

Morning everyone.

You will Miss the Furry one Kiwimade, but you have done the best thing.. Its far to hot to be chained up, and it would make him miserable too eh. especially if their noise disturbs bunnies etc and he can see them but not get them.

I have my diabetes eye check at noon.. stupid time of the day but Ill go up.
They do it locally now so that's handy.

I got a couple of paper punches yesterday less than half the cost of the ones at spotlight. So that opens up a couple of ideas I have had.

Your garden sounds wonderfull Kiwimade. Very peaceful.

It feels very quiet here, maybe all the kids are getting to the bored stage of the holidays. I often think the holidays are too long for the kids, but not long enough for the teachers.

Have a good day everyone

busy bee kiwi? I am lonely and feeling down as MrT has gone back to work, new machine broke down today so spent a hour fixing it, hope popeye gets her parcel today, now we have snail mail

carolev - 2015-01-14 08:55:00
6418

yep carole, very busy, making the most of the fine weather and trying to get the garden 'done' - as if it is ever finished lol. Last summer I started an overhaul of one part of the garden and this summer it's the other side's turn. Not a lot really needs doing as I moved a lot of plants from this side to the revamped area, just have a big bare patch that needs something done to it. We were given a huge pile of left-over bricks from a house lot so am using them for the path. It is so shady and cool but digging is damed hard work lol. Eventually I want a water feature there but that will have to wait for now. Saw exactly what I wanted in Coromandel the other day but it was in someone's garden and not for sale... buggar!!

Yep, the Furry One would be miserable here at the moment with all the noise and being chained up. Much kinder for him to spend some time with his 'cousin' for a few days. I miss him terribly lol and so does MrK.

Right, will finish this cuppa MrK made me (good eh!!) and then back to my path.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-01-14 09:39:00
6419

Hi everyone.. yes thank you Carole. they are Lovely. Mrp is smiling big time... Lol the little wee Mickey and Mini... And thank you for the stiffening its perfect.
Have been up for my eye check.. he said my eyesight is 20/20.. so its probably more eye strain than eye sight making my eyes tired and headaches. So ill start staggering my work to rest my eyes a bit. don't need another check for two years. Yay!!!..

Right will have a play on here then do a bit of knitting. I've done two hearts today. Im happy if I get two of each done per day minimum... More is better but Ill have a heap if I only get two of each done each day.

Have a good afternoon everyone

6422

morning ladies :) The palings on the fence are almost done so the Furry One can probably come home tomorrow. We miss him lol, I miss the games we play in the morning.

Busy day again today, have several things to do in town including buying some plants for where I was working yesterday. I also need to sort the spare bedrooms out as we have a family 'do' to go to Saturday and both kids and Maddy are coming home. One bedroom is being used as a storage room for paint and all the reno stuff so better move it somewhere - now where too is the question lol.

No knitting, it has just been too hot and I've had too many other things to do.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-01-15 07:05:00
6423

Well after saying a couple of mornings ago that it was cooler, I went into town later that day and the big digital display on the waterfront announced that it was 31 degrees, and when I went in yesterday it felt even hotter although I didn't go along the waterfront to check the temp.

It's definitely cooler here this morning, so I'm going shopping as soon as we've had breakfast and I've done the dishes. Garden needs watering, I suppose I should do that before it gets too hot.

Nothing much to report here. Almost a year since Mr K had his accident (24th of this month) what a year it's been - one I could have done without.

At least I have my knitting and crochet to keep me sane.

Have a super day everyone.

kuaka - 2015-01-15 08:33:00
6424

Morning everyone.
The house will be very quiet without the furry one Kiwimade... You will be glad to have him home again... Are they going to build on the section?

Yep I knew the Minnie mouse was for me Carole.. Ohh to have a machine to do neat things like that on.

It is slightly cooler this morning.. I don't even have my fan on...

I was thinking yesterday Kuaka that it must be nearly a year since Batman had his fall.. Cos you were just getting the boat sorted to have your holiday.

Id go nutty without my crafts so I know what you mean. I started a bowknot scarf for CMA last night. Just to do something different.. Its red and black and looks nice.

A few things to go up the road this morning, gotta get needles for mrPs insulin etc...

Then home to do some craft..

Have a good day everyone

Ive got far toooo much, and just purchased more from Jimmy Beans sales. I am sure I have a serious addiction. Will just have to open that `pop up' wool shop somewhere. I will never knit it all, but I love the colours, the textures, the squishiness of it all and you cant beat that fresh smell of new wool in your stash.

daisygirl - 2015-01-15 10:04:00
6426

Your right there Daisygirl... I wonder if there is a name for wool addicted people lol.
Other than Yarnaholic lol

Its a senses thing eh, brings pleasure to the touch and sight.

Nearly a month since I bought any.. Im doing well lol.. another 4 days and its a full month lol

popeye333 - 2015-01-15 11:51:00
6427

I have not bought any yarn so far this year and when I am told or see a wool sale I think of my stash in the room.
I am knittingand lot more instead of on my I pad or reading.

jord37 - 2015-01-15 16:00:00
6428

Hope your keeping well Jord... and that the heat is not to hard for you.

Im desperately missing doing blankets.. but its far to hot to be doing that at the mo.

I read for an hour every night.. The book im reading at the mo is great, I've Laughed and cried, (not often a book does that to me ).. And I cant tell you what its called until I've finished it lol. Its After Something lol... Its a big book too, glad its on my e-reader.
I can read quite quickly and last night it took an hour for one chapter.. Its going to be on of those ones you miss when you finish it lol.

popeye333 - 2015-01-15 17:40:00
6429

morning ladies :) No knitting for me again today as I'm off to Taumaranui to bring our daughter and granddaughter home for a family 'do' tomorrow. Will do the round trip and pick The Furry One up at Cambridge on the way home. Just waiting for the washing machine to finish so I can hang the washing out before I go.

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-01-16 07:52:00
6430

Morning ladies, boy was it hot yesterday, yet when I came along the waterfront on my way home from Kerikeri the digital display said only 27 degrees where it had said 31 a couple of days earlier.

Anyway I went to the Warehouse and returned a covered in kitty litter tray which we had bought for puss before Christmas only when I put it on the floor for her in the spot where the kitty litter tray goes, she freaked out, just backed away from it terrified. I think it looks too much like her carry cage. Just as well I didn't fill it with kitty litter. So got my $25 back and proceeded to then spend over $100. Bought some lovely calla lillies and a pack of gladiola bulbs, copy paper, chopping board, pair of scissors, lettuce plants, can't think what else. Didn't see one single item of clothing that appealed to me. Went to New World and did a big shop, and then called at the sewing shop for two buttons for a little top down baby top. Found some that were a pretty good match, but at $1.20 each for two shirt-type buttons, I decided I'll wait till I go to the emporium in Whangarei. Honestly. $1.20 for a shirt button. I would have to need them pretty desperately to pay that much.

Going to have an easier day today. I was pretty knackered by the time I got home and then unpacked all the groceries and packaged all the meat and put it in the freezer. Might do a little bit of gardening before it gets too hot, then relax this afternoon and knit if it's not too hot (it doesn't very often get too hot for me to knit) but if it does, I'll retreat to the sewing room and do some sewing. It's nice and cool in there.

Drive carefully kiwimade.

Have fun everyone.

kuaka - 2015-01-16 08:50:00
6431

Morning everyone.. It sure was a hot one yesterday.

I don't think today will be much better... Im over it lol

Kuaka what size shirt button do you need? I have a lot of shirt type buttons here, what colour too?

I only did minimum craft yesterday.. I don't know that Ill get that much done today either.. Its just too hot and today my bones are aching.

I have to go get some coconut, and then put the car on the driveway instead of leaving it on the lawn like we do on shopping day. getting yellow spots lol.

Drive carefully Kiwimade, its a fairly long trip... Ill always remember a couple of long road trips I've done. one was from Waiuku to New Plymouth and back in a day.
And then one from Putaruru down to Palmerston North and across to Napier. Stayed the night and home the next day lol.

Well I have washing to hang out... then that will be about my day lol

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2015-01-16 09:36:00
6432

Thanks popeye, the colour isn't that important, as the yarn is off white with coloured flecks, so I thought I would match one of the flecks, but I'll see what I can get when I go to the emporium in Whangarei (I'm going there anyway), probably get something for about 10c a button. It can wait. I daresay if I had a good look in my button jars I'd find something, it's just a bit daunting searching.

kuaka - 2015-01-16 09:47:00
6433

afternoon all been shopping now off for a nanna nap

carolev - 2015-01-16 12:57:00
6434

Good day all
Nice and hot here, need to get into the garden after being away for a while but not feeling energetic at the moment, perhaps this evening.

Can't buttons be a terrible price Kuaka, I tend to try and get mine from an emporium type place but their stock is becoming more limited. I just hate the way so often buttons are now sold in packets as invariably they don't have the exact number of buttons that I need so end up having one or two left over.

Been knitting a jersey for nieces little girl, it was some wool I brought to knit a jacket for someone else but as it is a lovely red I think it will suit this little one better.

Have a safe trip Kiwimade and enjoy the little one's company.

jayemtoo - 2015-01-16 16:54:00
6435

Im melting here its 36.3 outside and 27.7 inside.

Normally our tea time but we haven't got that far yet. MrP is having a lay down (Unusual for this time of the day) for him.

Your right re buttons Jayemtoo... Spotlight sells on the cards and I think the cheapest price is $3-60. That's ridiculous. I always check the trays at the oppy here. And Ive gone as far as buying clothes just for the buttons.

Yet you see soo many people using them in craft making pictures etc.. Im afraid all I see is the many dollars tied up in them lol.

Ohh yesterday I went to move the lead on the clothes dryer and the silly thing started running... I think its "Possessed" lol.... I've taped the power lead where I held it . So maybe it will be good for winter now.

Bring on winter...

popeye333 - 2015-01-16 17:06:00
6436

oh no popeye, I don't want winter back for a long time - even though it's too hot to do much at the moment, that is really suiting me just fine, 'cos I can fluff around and do not a lot and not feel guilty - I can kid myself I'm on holiday (I wish)

kuaka - 2015-01-16 22:58:00
6437

morning ladies :) Noooooo!! Not winter lol.

Our daughter and grandy are here now and omg it's like a tornado is in town lol. Cupboards need exploring, ornaments need to be handed to you, the dog needs to be followed, poppa needs 'help' in the loo... lol. Such fun!

last night was so hot she was running commando outside with the dog. Now she can run the Furry One thinks it is much better! They are best mates.

Family 'do' today and son is also coming home so the whole whanau will be home. Daughter and I have made salads to take so are all organised.

Suspect there will be no knitting today. This wee jumper I am knitting is taking forever to finish!

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2015-01-17 07:43:00
6438

Morning everyone... Lol at two No's to winter.. I function heaps better in winter lol.
Yep nothing is safe anymore Kiwimade, but if shes handing things to you, that's a good sign she wont be rough I hope. Mum never put stuff away from us, we just learnt not to touch.
Only time she put anything away when one lot of cousins came.

I honestly don't know why we shower, end up ringing wet just getting dried and dressed lol... Ive also browned and put shanks from our sheep in the crockpot.... MAD I know in this heat but Ive hung out long enough. MrP likes hogget etc but not all the time.. So we had chops the night we got it and this is only the second thing in a month.

I plan on a wee bit of no baking, baking today. Im going to make some White Christmas... Was thinking about doing chocolate crackles but in a tray and I think ill leave it and get some paper cups.. if I make it in a tray it might just crumble when its cut.

Finished the scarf last night. Its in a deep red /black variegated and looks nice. Might start working on one of the Mistleto Mice as an extra from the hearts and stockings. Once I have two of each of those done in a day Im happy to do a third thing, without the pressure now.

HAve a fun time at the "DO" all the Kiwimades...

Have a fab day all

popeye333 - 2015-01-17 09:21:00

morning all just 4 rows to go on the hood then sew up. my gardening lady's here and we are in for a hot day, had a bad run in with a shop owner on Monday still smarting from it, what next to knit ???

carolev - 2015-01-17 09:24:00
6440

Ohh Not good re the run in Carole. Why not knit something for yourself, we are usually the last people on our list.

Happy Birthday to GrandmaSue tooo if she happens to pop in here

popeye333 - 2015-01-17 09:46:00
6441

oh dear Carolev - I remember we had a "run in" once with a shopkeeper, and Mr K was so mad with him, that he threw our intended purchase at the shopkeeper and we walked out.

popeye, I'm just wondering if you've used the Stylecraft acrylic from Deramore's and if so was it any good. I'm trying to do an order (I know, I'm naughty) and I'm having trouble finding the colours I want in the brands that I know.

Did any of you read the bit about "cold sheeping" which was on fb. I'd never heard the term, but apparently that's when you decide not to buy any yarn for a while and just knit from your stash. It caused quite a bit of agro it seems.

Just having a cuppa while I wait for my washing to finish so I can hang it out, then I'm going to do a little gardening before it gets too hot. Might sew this afternoon, then I'm going to make a pie for tea (like you popeye, I must be mad) because I have left over chicken and then I plan to try our new barbecue tomorrow - of course the forecast for tomorrow is for rain I believe. Perfect timing - not!

Have a super day everyone, especially GrandmaSue - Happy Birthday.

kuaka - 2015-01-17 10:49:00
6442

Yes Ive used Stylecraft Kuaka. Its good enough for my needs. Toys blankets etc... .

The cardy Im doing for me is Stylecraft, so its plenty soft enough that's for sure.

Ive not heard of Cold Sheeping either... Will have to have alooky to see what all the fuss is about lol.

I made my chocolate crackles and White Christmas. And even tho only one element was on and the crockpot I still had too much heart. Felt ill for a bit.

And this is how hot it has been, I had the kremelta in the pantry and it was spreadable... Its in the fridge now.

We have had a wee shower and it has dropped the temp just a wee bit. Overcast here still.

Have a good day all

popeye333 - 2015-01-17 12:26:00
6443

and I now know that I truly am mad 'cos not only am I making and cooking a chicken and bacon pie for tea, but because I've got the oven on I decided I might as well make a batch of bran muffins too! (They're coming to take me away haha, they're coming to take me away)

kuaka - 2015-01-17 17:53:00
6444

Lol..... We had hogget shanks done in the crockpot for tea with roast veges and gravy...

I thought I was Nuts, but the rain cooled things a little. And God it was Yummy

I finished miss E jacket and took it over to her and you will never guess what, it was too small did not fit. I could have cried

6446

Oh no Carolev -what a pain in the bum! Chicken and bacon pie was yummy, and just waiting for the last batch of muffins to come out of the oven (I will freeze half of them - so not quite so silly really as I will have some in reserve)

No rain here yet and not looking likely at the moment, maybe tomorrow (probably just as I'm lighting the barbecue)

Morning everyone.
Ohh Carole, not good re the jacket not fitting.. Has she grown over summer?
MrPs sugars are always in the 20s in the tea time test. and between 10-12 in the morning. I increased his insulin last night and he had a 10.5 this morning.

Hope the "Do" went well Kiwimade and no sore heads this morning.

I like baking for the freezer too Kuaka. I just don't have any room for now. We thought it was going to be a slow black berry year but its not going to be. So Im going to have to share some around out of the freezer.

The thread I started about the Cold sheeping is funny.. Worth a read..

Right best get myself sorted and pop up the road before Kirsty is on.

Have a good day everyone
