Beautiful flowers Carole.. I also love your net curtains. I have to replace ours sooner rather than later.
Will have to recover the finances first tho.

I found a supplier on here who has good heavy net curtaining. And have one in the kitchen. So I want to do the rest of the house with the same ones.

Hopefully they will last longer than the last lot. I think Im on the third set in 10 years...

Ive managed to get all my wool put away, and have cut out some more hearts,. not happy with the star and trees.. so Ill stick to hearts. And Im going to knit little wee stocking for the trees and bunting too.

Done a bit on my cardy last night. on the first sleeve so its coming along.

Morning ladies, well Christmas is done and dusted, a very quiet time for us, just the two of us, so we just relaxed, had a few drinks and a roast chicken for tea on Christmas day. No point in buying a turkey for two people, and neither of us are that keen on it anyway.

At last the sun is shining, the weather has been awful these last few days, nothing but misty drizzly rain, yesterday was quite cool, we had the heat pump going all morning. Now I see we have a mist rolling down the harbour. Honestly we had more sunshine in winter than we've had just lately.

I have finally made a start on my son's curtain, and have put the tape across the top, so now I just have to do the hem and then make the detachable lining. And then he just needs 3 tie-backs made, I have already done two.

I seem to have several knitting projects on the go at the moment, and can't seem to settle to actually work much on anything. I did spend some time the other day trying to tidy up my sewing room, and when I returned and told Mr K what I'd been doing (he thought I was sewing the curtain) he grabbed his chest and said "omg - I'm having a heart attack" - sarcastic so-and-so. Then when I said I hadn't finished and there was more tidying up to do in there, he repeated the performance! Cheeky eh?

Thinking about replacing my washing machine. Be interested to know what everyone has, top or front loader. I've always had a top loader, but I fancy a front loader, as they use less water and are supposed to be gentler on clothes. Anyone care to comment?

Right, going to knit a few rows while I have my cuppa.

morning ladies :) Lovely flowers carole, they certainly brighten anyones day :) I'm not having net curtains, I don't care anymore lol. But our living room drapes have the voile facing into the room with the drape at the back so they work as nets.

Our daughter had a Samsung front loader kuaka and she loved it, I hated it. The cycles were just sooooo slooooowww and with nappies to wash it was an all day thing to do the washing. You can buy top loaders without an agitator now too which is the way I will go next time. But as you say, front loaders are a space saver and maybe the slowness was a 'brand' thing and not all of them are like that.

Cheeky MrK kuaka lol, my MrK is like that when the ironing board comes out lol.

We have two of MrK's sisters coming for lunch today. The Furry One will be in doggy heaven as they are bringing their two big dogs. Luckily we have tons of space for them all to race madly round... and round... and round...

I'm knitting the front of Maddy's jumper, daughter spotted the wool in my knitting bag and loved the red. And yes popeye, lol, she is now hooked on crochet (get it? lol :P ) and needs to have something on the go all the time. Like mother, like daughter I think.

Time to hang washing out and put next load on, run the vacuum over the floor. The great thing about this Christmas was it didn't matter if anything spilled on the carpet lol as it's being ripped up soon anyway. But it does need a vacuum so time to move and get it done.

Knitting this afternoon after my sis-in-laws have left.

Lol Kuaka at MrK's reaction to the cleaning.. It would be the same here, but in reverse if MrP actually tried to clean anything in the garage.. But In my case Id have to check his Forehead first, to make sure he wasn't unwell then Id fake the heart attack lol

You will be pleased to have the curtain done. nothing worse than "Having" to do something when your not really in the mood.

Yesterday I started knitting some tiny wee Christmas stockings to add to the bunting.. They take 30 mins to do with the sewing up. So now I alternate between doing those and the hearts through the day and knit my cardy at night.

On Christmas day I tried Not to do any knitting etc, so I had full attention on MrP. It was Hard lol, then he turns around and asks was I ok? cos I wasn't knitting lol.

I have a top loader and its about 17-18 years old. I love it, only had that one repair when it kept flooding. If I have to replace it, it will be with another top loader. My friend got a front loader and it sounds like you need a degree to run the dam thing. Ours is one of the last with the dial, not electronic... I did that on purpose incase MrP ever had to do the washing, he cant muck it up.

Have to pop up the road today. Then I think I will take the tree etc down.

Mr T is the tidy one in our house, I have replace the net twice sinces we lived here been here 14 years on the 29th, the ones we have now have not lasted well at $17 a meter you would think they would. love my pretty garden, was sick in the night so sat up and knitted, now very tired

Front loader here and I love it. Uses less water and cleans better, only down side is you can't put big blankets in but it handles my curtains fine

morning ladies :) Just blocked a hole up where the Furry One tunnelled his way out to chase a rabbit last night and he is not happy with me lol. Well too bad! The road is no place for you!

My priority today is to find a dentist and have my filling replaced, then to buy the paint I need for the inside as well as the wooden chairs outside. Then into the garden for a bit more weeding and knitting this afternoon.

Hope you can find a dentist Kiwimade, bad time of the year too probably, they might all be having overseas holidays since they know how to charge eh.

Time to bite the bullet here and get the net curtains. The one in my room is shot.. I wish we could live without them. But our windows are about 5 meters from the footpath, if that. So it would be like living in a gold fish bowl. So will have to put it on a card, dammit. I was hoping they would last a little longer.. Whats the bet Ill just get them and they will come on special the next week.

I de-christmassed yesterday, still have to vacuum tho. So no craft done yesterday.
Today we will be doing some more pickled onions and I have asparagus to blanch too.

I don't think he did popeye, by the time he had tunnelled out the rabbit was long gone. But he's a trier! Blocked up his tunnel this morning to find another behind the garden shed. I swear he smirked at me! So now he has no access to behind the shed and is sulking. Well too bad. We love him too much to have him hit by a car or cause an accident.

Luminos are open today and hopefully I can get an appointment. My dentist isn't open until the 5th.

Are you going to buy ready made popeye or make your own?

Edited to add I have a 4.00pm appointment. Phew, this hole has been bugging me.

AND MrK has started the demo on the walls! So exciting lol

our fireplace! It's huge, can't wait for the builder to come and take it out! Still lots of gib board to go but now we have a real feel for how much more space we are going to have.

yeah, we will end up with around five square metres extra living space by taking a wall and the fire out. So quite a bit really.

Morning ladies, looks like being another lovely day. Have visitors supposed to be calling in later this morning on their way further north, but I need to nip into town to get a few supplies, so plan to do that fairly soon.

Our new set of Christmas tree lights stopped working yesterday, I was really brassed off. I bought them in an after-Christmas sale in January 2013 and they are LED lights and supposed to last years. Made in China of course and I really did expect them to last more than they have, they were up for maybe a week last year and only 6 days this year. Not good enough. Course they only have a one year warranty but I'm going to write to the manufacturers anyway and see what happens. Grrr! My sister tells me she is still using the lights that Mum gave her in 1965!

I finally did the hem on the wretched curtain for my son and then as I was folding it I noticed a dirty mark where the fabric had been folded, so I had to spray it and then wash it, now of course I have to iron it. I'm sick of the thing. Still have to do the lining and the plaited tie backs.

Not a lot else to report so I had better get cracking and get organised for the visitors.

Lol I had my hands full when I sat down so didn't straighten it before I sat down and its ripped down the front lol.. Material is thin as tho lol. so Ill have to change before we go out

Played domestic goddess yesterday, so today when we get home Ill do the curtain for my room and then craft. The rest can wait a day or two.

Well I have finally finished the curtain and lining for my son - and then as I was ironing it this afternoon I did wonder if I've used the fabric upside down to the previous ones I did - it's got abstract leaves on it, so maybe not totally obvious on first glance. I will have to check with the ones I made previously, but if it's upside down, I won't be telling my son, and I'll just see if he notices. Step-daughter is coming on Friday and will take it back to Auckland for me, and he can pick it up from her place - will be much easier than posting it. I am so relieved to have it out of the way "this year" rather than start the new year with a project like that waiting to be done.

My MrK cut the phone line yesterday thinking it wasn't connected to anything, well, ummm... yes it was lol. Luckily he was able to splice it back together. It's going to have to be moved eventually anyway.

The Furry One has been stung by a bee and is feeling very sorry for himself. He refused to chase a rabbit last night and just wants cuddles so I know he isn't well. Need another vet visit I think. I've never had a dog who has had so many vet visits but then I've never had such a busy dog either.

More wall sanding today while MrK keeps plodding on with taking the wall out. No knitting today as the house is soooo dusty from all the plaster board. I'll pick it up again when the wall is out and the sanding done and the house cleaned up.

Morning all,

Popeye think it must be 2 years for this thread as started Tues 1 January and that is on a Thursday this year.

That chimney is huge Kiwimade love hearing about others renovations, it is always great to see how the changes develop.

That vaccine can be beneficial Carole, know it helped a lot of the "chest" patients I saw when working, although nothing in medicine can be 100 percent guaranteed.

What a relief to get the curtain finished Kuaka.

What a lot happens in a week and Christmas seems ages ago.
Had a magical couple of days on Somes Island, so quiet whilst seeing Wellinton right next door. Night walks along bush tracks fantastic and saw the giant wetas - not at all scary like the little ones are, and Tuatara just on the path.
Now not as restful as looking after Niece's toddlers for three days so she could go to an Aunt's funeral in New Plymouth. They are good little ones but keep me on my toes.

No crafts for a week - must be a record for me, do have some crochet with me but not got around to t somehow.

Morning ladies, overcast here but not cold. We had a real "tropical" downpour yesterday lunchtime but it only lasted about 10 minutes.

Step-daughter called in on her way further north, only stayed a few minutes but is calling in again on Friday on her way back to Auckland. She will give me a haircut (she's a hairdresser) I should say she will tidy up the mess I made last week hacking at my hair. I usually cut my own hair and usually do a reasonable job of it, but this time I didn't. She will also take the wretched curtain back and my son can pick it up from her place, even though he lives on the north shore and she lives out west, it will be easier and quicker than him coming here to get it and it's a bit bulky to post.

Going to knit and natter today, and have to go into town. Might try to go to town early and hope to get a car park (I fluked one yesterday when I zapped in about 9am) but today will be later. If I can't get one I'll park behind the cafe in their car park and walk to town from there.

Overcast here but thankfully not as hot as it was at 3-30am.

What a lovely young lady we met, when we went and got the Plums. One shouldn't judge the book by the cover, especially not in her case. she was friendly and chatted away to MrP while I got 2.5 buckets of plums.
They are the red ones with yellow flesh.. not sour and not too sweet. Yummy. And free stone so Ill bottle a lot for our breakfasts.

That will start tomorrow tho, as bending on a hill aint much good for the back.. But Im soo thankfull for getting soo many.

Will sit and sew and knit this afternoon... and then start bottling tomorrow..

I love preserving fruit etc... Yayay

I've been awake since 3am thanks to Mr K who woke me to tell me he is in agony with his back and needed my help to get him out of bed to go to the loo. Course I couldn't get back to sleep afterwards, and seeing as I saw the new year in, I will probably need a nana nap this afternoon.

What a wet and windy night it's been too, but the rain has now stopped and the wind has dropped, so maybe the weather will brighten up later.

Think I'll have an early breakfast then settle in to do some knitting.

morning and happy new year ladies. I hope 2015 is kind to us all and we work through our 'to do' lists :)

It was wet here overnight too but boy we needed the rain so all good for the garden. Had a guy stop outside our home at 3.30am this morning, music up full tit, to pee against the fence. The Furry One was having none of that thank you, if anyone pees against the fence it's him lol.

Back to sanding down walls, hopefully will get the hallway finished today and that includes all the door trim. Want to start in the living room so Mrk and I finish up together. The gib board is dusty coming out and so is my sanding so if we can finish roughly together, I can get stuck in and clean up. The house is covered in dust, even the kitchen floor.

So no crafting until all this dust is gone. Pretty good incentive to get everything done!

I didn't see the new year in, I only recall doing that once in my life.

I did see star at about 3-30 tho. I kinda hitched myself back up in bed, I sleep half sitting up on my side. And instead of getting up with my achy body I decided to hitch up.. Big mistake, I whacked my head on the pipes of the bedhead.. Ouchies lol.. Still tender to touch. So putting my hair up was a mission, so I have a lose bun today

HAve all these plums to deal with today.. Yay.. I know Ill get hot and sore but I will love every minute of it too. I gave away a lot of my jars a few years ago, but think I have enough to get them all done.. I have two huge jars. not the half or the normal large size agee ones, but basically like a large and small together.. I don't see many around so assume they might be scarce.

Another day sanding down walls. Will finish the hallway today, couldn't finish yesterday as Mrk was working in the area I needed to be so thought that was a good enough reason to stop for the day lol. Won't take long to do the living room as I was able to get all the wallpaper off so it's just a light sand to get the 'daggy' bits off. So hopefully will be finished today or tomorrow. Realised as I was sanding yesterday I forgot to buy primer paint so will do that next week.

Am so glad the fire is coming out, there is smoke damage on the concrete front where the tiles go and a charred piece of timber! We were right not to use the fire, MrK said we could have burned the house down! Quite scary.

So no knitting for me again today, I'm having withdrawals lol.

Gosh Kiwimade that must have been scary re the fireplace and reinforces need to get rid of it.

Hope the bottling goes well Popeye, brings back childhood memories of many jars of preserves done each year.

Completely confused re days at moment planned to go to library but today is a holiday still so that will have to wait and also wool shop closed and really want a specific wool. Oh dear will have to mow lawn instead which is not nearly as interesting and fortunately have plenty of books on Ebook still.

Great to pick up knitting again after a week without - did make a couple of crochet beanies while away so not completely without handcrafts. Had started a young Einstein before going away but now can't remember which size I'm doing as there are many sizes on pattern will just have to guess.

Morning everyone..
A dead calm day out there, compared to yesterdays lovely cool wind.

Bottling went well.. I got the two huge jars, a normal large and one small. Plus I think it was about 6 jars of jam. Wasn't planning on making jam but the fruit was soo ripe. we ended up cutting them in half like peaches and putting the side without the stone into the bottles and the ones with into the jam. I have 2 litres of juice for MrP to have on his cereal. And I have 2 litres that Im going to turn into Jelly.. Ill try it with one jar first tho. If it works it will be the prettiest red colour.

No craft for me yesterday either. I took the label's off the new towels and soaked 3 overnight in salt. They are washing now. Will do the other two tonight as they were a brighter red and I didn't want to risk mixing them.

I took a couple of curtains out and hung them over the door, so I will shorten them today too and get my room done at least.

Will have to shop later, I dont need much so will leave MrP at home. Then I will stick to my list. Hes not too bad but I can whizz around a lot faster.

Then maybe later I can do some crafts.

You must be soo pleased your getting to the end of the sanding etc Kiwimade.. The fire would have given you a fright. I remember once years ago we had a coal range with wet back. The shower started leaking so MrP took the seratone off the wall to find all the timber behind it charred badly... We tried not to let the water Boil so much after that.

The bread smells like its done so Id better get that out too...

have finished the hallway, well pretty much. Just the front door entrance to do where MrK was working yesterday so thought I'd stop for a cuppa. Yep, that charred piece of timber gave us both one heck of a fright. For some reason both of us never felt comfortable using the fire so we have been using electric heaters. You just never know what is happening behind those gib boards. We're having the sparky go over our wiring too when they sort all the switches and lighting out for us as well.

I think I may be able to finish the whole lot today, just need to keep going. The living room isn't too bad so won't take long. Curtain tracks need to come down so better find my screwdriver set. Love having my own tools lol. My little mouse sander is working overtime but perfect for me as not too heavy and I can sand for longer.

Well done on the plums popeye, a real sense of achievement isn't it. And soooo yummy with icecream or a hot winter pud. Ohhh yummm! Good idea to use the plums with stones for jam, saves a lot of waste when digging the damed stones out.

Right-o, cuppa finished, need to get cracking.

Another nice day here, planning on getting into town before it gets too hot or crowded. Seems silly but have 2 Christmas cakes to make this weekend, Neice from Italy arrives and I make her a couple - one to eat in NZ and one to take back with her as she can't get it in Italy.

Also busy making more iPad stands as those who didn't get them for Christmas would like one, they are so handy for keeping hands free while reading etc so hope I can get onto them later today.

Know what you mean about own tools Kiwimade, really love my electric drill and wonder how I managed with just normal screwdrivers - well actually don't wonder as know I wasn't much good on them lol.

morning ladies :) Another gorgeous day here too, no wind yet and already warming up.

Never got the living room done as the day just got too hot so I'm about to start it now. I should get it finished today all going to plan. Now if MrK will just wake so I can start lol. Can't even send the Furry One in to wake him as he's snuggled up with MrK... I swear it's a conspiracy! A bit more plaster board still needs to come out over the next couple of days and then we are done for now. Oh, MrK will mend the holes I found in the walls as I stripped the wallpaper and I will sand them down when the plaster is dry. So almost done as much as we can until the builder and sparky get do their bit.

Hopefully I can start on the dusting soon, omg we have dust for Africa lol. Even the Furry One has been sneezing.

So no knitting for me just yet, maybe tomorrow afternoon all going to plan.

Jayem, not so silly re the cakes, I've had mine taken to America, Thailand and Rarotonga.. I don't if its cos they cant get the ingredients or just that they would rather I made them lol..

Ive over done it with my back in the last few days. so once the pile of dishes are done and trimming MrP's hair. Im having a quiet day. I plan to sit and cut the fabric and lining for the hearts Im making. And will iron those together. But other than that Ill be resting the bones.

Even tho I really want to get the nets up, I know Im asking for trouble if I do that. And I don't like taking more than 1-2 codeine in a day.

Advice or opinion needed. The net curtains here seem to rot away really quickly.. Would it be a combination of too much sun, But also was thinking maybe cos the windows are always wet in the winter???

It dawned on me yesterday that even tho I always wipe the windows maybe they were still damp enough that it affected the nets?

One thing for sure tho. if it is, that wont happen now I have the window vac.

I'm finished the sanding!! Omg what a mission, MrK had to use his grinder to get the curtain rail off! We just could not get the screws to turn and suspect someone had glued them in for some reason. But it's all done now and all I have to do is dust... and dust... and dust lol. but that is tomorrow's chore.

I think it may be a combination of sunshine and wet windows popeye, nets just don't last very long now.

Good to see you are feeling better carole, nothing like a good nights sleep.

Hope everyone is managing to get some crafting done.

Well done kiwimade - now the fun stuff starts, the worst part is over.

Popeye, I think it's the sun mostly that does it. That's why sunfilters are promoted as being so marvellous, they are manufactured to withstand the rigors of the bright sunshine. Nets just don't measure up.

Well I'm feeling a whole lot better having had a visit from Mr Ks daughter who is a hairdresser and she tidied up my hair which I had hacked at before Christmas - mind you, she did say I hadn't made too bad a job of it, but it is just so much better now. Pity it won't last long as another 4 or 5 weeks and it will need doing again.

I've been busy knitting (made a little top-down top yesterday) and last night and today I've been crocheting squares. But again I seem to have run out of a nice variety of colours for the squares.

Seem to be very tired at the moment, not sleeping well at the moment. Had trouble staying awake this afternoon and the spare bed looked very inviting, but I resisted. Bet I don't stay awake till bedtime. Never mind. I'll try to do some more knitting tonight, but if I don't, it will still be there tomorrow.
