Morning everyone Kiwimade I love both Large dogs and small ones. But (don't tell the furry one) no smaller than Foxies. Otherwise they are just too small for me.. When I say Large, I love german shepherds. But Ive always wanted a Great Dane... I did a bit on my front of my cardy yesterday.. Too much tho.. The decreasing for the neck according to the pattern isn't much higher than the armhole. Is weird to me but Ill undo the few inches I did and do what the pattern says. I got into the office,. Have found the gingham, vylene and calico I was looking for. And even found some bells. Goodness knows when or why I got those. lol. Shopping shortly too.. So have a good day everyone. Hope no one has been affected by the rain HAve a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-12-18 08:54:00
morning all. had a better nights sleep nearly done the back used 1 ball already . off out today to enjoy the sun and mad shopping, then home to sew. carolev - 2014-12-19 06:25:00
morning ladies :) I've finished the back of maddie's jumper, must have been the evening for 'backs' carole. I've a list a mile long to get through today, hope to finish Christmas shopping and buy daughter's birthday present as her birthday is on the 29th. Then back to wallpaper stripping and start baking. MrK and I have decided this sunday is going to be a 'blah-who-gives-a-dam'- |Should get some more knitting done this afternoon, if not then some hardanger. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-19 07:00:00
Morning Knitted a Ebook/iPad support for my sister but tried it out and found it so good that now have to make her another one. I have my patterns and stuff on the iPad and this keeps my hands free to knit while reading etc. Have a good day jayemtoo - 2014-12-19 09:31:00
Morning ladies, a knitted support for the ipad sounds interesting. I made a bean bag for one with the intention of selling it but found it so good I didn't sell it. Not feeling so flash this morning, apart from my usual sore back I seem to have a sore throat, I was planning on going to the doc on Monday (haven't made the appointment yet) so might see if I can go this afternoon. Discovered yesterday that I had bought the wrong soap powder last time I went shopping, was about to open it and saw it said "front loader" and of course I have a top loader. Phoned the 0800 number for advice and was told that it won't damage my machine unlike using top loader powder in a front loader, but that my washing might be "compromised" - whatever that means. She said I might have to use a bit more powder. She said it would be better if I could return it where I bought it and swap it (but seeing as I bought it in Kerikeri and don't have the receipt I couldn't be bothered), so I used it and the washing looks just the same as usual - don't think I've "compromised" it. Right, better do something useful - not sure what to do today. Have fun everyone. kuaka - 2014-12-19 09:53:00
Morning everyone... yes very late lol HAd to have MrP up to Middlemore by 7-30 this morning. they had a cancellation in the Cardiac Catheter lab, so we got the call. So he has had the angiogram and he hasn't worsened not improved either of course. But it was good to tick that one on the list. We were up at 5am lol... I ;left him about 8-30am and went shopping. I spent an hour in the Warehouse... Got My red with white spot Coffee Mugs YAYAYAY.. Two balls of Polyester yarn. Not sure what that will be like. but its for toys so should be ok. And a few other things for crafting. Then I spent an hour and a half in spotlight, got everything on my list except some green gingham... When did that hit $15 a meter? I nearly died.. Its soo long since I got fabric in a shop lol.. Well I didn't get it lol. It was good to wander around and look at everything, But it was odd not having someone to talk to. Went and had lunch in Manukau city. I didn't hang around tho cos just after Id finished my lunch a huge cockroach wandered across the floor. And I was outta there. Yuck. Went back to the hospital and sat and cooled down. It was foggy when we got there, I wonder if the airport was shut.. But its been Very hot. So now I have my feet up and tomorrow will be our do nothing day. Hope your feeling better Kuaka.. Glad to hear you are Carole. popeye333 - 2014-12-19 17:52:00
morning ladies :) An early start for me as I want to beat the humidity while I strip the last of the wallpaper. Felt like I was working in a sauna yesterday. Then housework and then feet up for a bit with some knitting.. or maybe I should make the shortbread. Christmas is the only time I bake shortbread and MrK looks forward to it :P. Hope everyone is well and has time today for a bit of knitting. happy knitting. kiwimade64 - 2014-12-20 06:06:00
morning finished the back boy it's LONG and started a front, got the first load of washing on , still feeling like crap. on 2 kinds of antibiotic so might just go back to bed. carolev - 2014-12-20 06:46:00
Morning everyone. Man its hot and sticky here.. was terrible overnight. But we were both tired so slept well. Too hot to do much here too. Ive got to duck up the road. Then put the shortbread tree together. Funny Kiwimade cos MrP loves his shortbread and I only make it at Christmas, sometimes his birthday if he fancies some. Hes doing well after the angiogram. Just not liking having his arm in a sling.. Gotta be that way for a couple of days.. Have to wrap a couple of pet toys today too. A friend and us always buy each others "Babies" something for Christmas. And Im a horrible Aunty cos I got her Jack Russell a nice squeaky rubber bone lol Grey clouds out there. Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-12-20 08:53:00
Morning all, Finished another iPad holder last evening, it is a type of knitted bean bag thing but had difficulty in getting a reasonably small amount of 'beans' - have enough for about 50 bags not 1,000 lol. I seldom think to make shortbread, funny how it has become a Christmas thing when easy enough to make at any time. Keep smiling and enjoy your day jayemtoo - 2014-12-20 09:24:00
wahoooooooo I have finished stripping the wallpaper lol, I'll leave the rest of the prep work until after Christmas. Shortbread is easy to make, I have a recipe with melted butter and the biscuits come out nice and 'short'. I have no idea why I don't make it during the year... oh... yes I do lol, it's all the butter lmao, straight to the hips! Good to hear MrP is coping after his angiogram, nice to have it out of the way before Christmas. MrK got a letter yesterday saying he'll have his cataracts done in around four months. It will be a relief not just for him but me too as I worry with him using all those woodworking tools! Would love to see what your iPad holders look like jayemtoo, they sound like a really good idea. Will finish this cuppa then housework, got a nice breeze at last so all windows and doors open. All going to plan, I can knit this afternoon :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-20 09:41:00
Yes Id love to see the ipad holders too. I have a case for my tablet, but a cushion under it would help. Glad you have the stripping all done Kiwimade... A good sense of acheivment Ive been up the road. Town busy but not too bad.. The air was like you were drinking it. http://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/353515226.jpg The supermarket didn't have silver cashews, which surprised me. so used M&Ms instead. I have dishes to do this afternoon. but other than that Im done. So I will pull this knitting undone and finish that front. popeye333 - 2014-12-20 12:18:00
morning all. feeling crap still new meds are fixing bladder I only had to get up once but god they mad me feel sick . granddaughter came yesterday and I held the back up to her will just fit should have done the next size up me thinks , sewing today have orders for more stockings carolev - 2014-12-21 06:43:00
morning ladies :) yep carole, kids grow quick! I'm knitting for a 2 year old now just so Maddie can have some extra room underneath the jumpers for skivvies and tops. Ironing and baking today, both need to be done. So much for a 'nothing' day lol. Oh well, shouldn't take long. MrK wants to make brawn so I'll leave him too it. Should get some knitting done but my shoulders and neck are stiff from all that wallpaper stripping, just used different muscles and my body is telling me! happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-21 08:06:00
Morning everyone But for Us its our Shared Christmas day with a friend and I feel in such a good mood. So its busy busy for me since Ill want to stop and watch Kirstie Allsopp at 10-30am. Have an awesome day everyone popeye333 - 2014-12-21 08:23:00
Hopefully third time lucky - have written 2 previous messages but each time lost them either as when posting the photo or a long Skype call from my sister! You must have a good sense of achievement Kiwimade with all the stripping done. Wow that looks fantastic Popeye the red and green M&Ms look great. I'll try and put the link up on the FB page if it works Have a good and not too hot day all jayemtoo - 2014-12-21 12:05:00
morning ladies :) ooh I like that jayemtoo, handy and practical. I can see why you are having to make quite a few! I love your shortbread tree popeye, (sorry, meant to mention this yesterday!), very clever! I need to find someone to repair our stereo, it dies after I moved it to strip the wallpaper behind it. MrK thinks it may just be a faulty or dirty connection somewhere but either way it's another expense. I miss having the radio on and playing the CDs. I want to get the lawn edges trimmed so I can mow tomorrow. can't mow today as the wheelie bin is chokka full and MrK doesn't want lots of clippings in the compost bin. One of the joys of selling the paddock is I don't have as much lawn to mow along the frontage... takes a good 40 minutes off my mowing time! Didn't get any knitting done yesterday, was just too hot and my sister came to visit. Caught up on holiday plans and family gossip. Hope everyone is able to have some time to knit, the days seem to be getting busier! Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-22 07:00:00
Morning everyone. We had a lovely day with my friend here. Lunch was very yummy. Was a lovely piece of pork. Didn't dry out or anything She gave MrP a jar of Blackball lollies... And gave me a Karcher Window Vacc.. I was soo excited.. So that's all put together and charged so will have a play later. The ranchslider needs a good clean. Missy loved all the paper and her new toys. So kinda back to normal today. I did manage to undo the extra part I knitted on the front of my cardy. but just not in the mood to knit at the mo. Kiwimade I play my cds through the dvd player.. We have problems getting Radio here so we don't bother. Have to go to Puke at some stage, the electric can opener wont work.. Hasn't been dropped or anything. My friend who uses one all the time had a go with it yesterday and said Nah its not doing what it should. So we will take that back and hopefully catch a sale at farmers (they seem to be having as many as Briscoes these days) and use the gift cards I have. Have a good day everyone Edit to add, it nearly didn't work to post my message then... Edited by popeye333 at 8:18 am, Mon 22 Dec popeye333 - 2014-12-22 08:17:00
Morning Plodding on with iPad stands, will knit a few then sew them up at the same time to save having to play with the beans too often, they tend to want to go everywhere! Hope you get things going again Kiwimade and Popeye, annoying when things decide to stop working. I like the radio on as background jayemtoo - 2014-12-22 08:28:00
my window steamer is a karcher too popeye and I love it!! kiwimade64 - 2014-12-22 08:28:00
Ive yet to come across anyone who doesn't like their Karcher, so thats a pleasing sign. popeye333 - 2014-12-22 08:42:00
morning girls. kiwimade I know what wrong with your stereo had the same thing happen to friends just last week bring it over next time you come and t will fix it. hot and sticky here and still sick as a dog carolev - 2014-12-22 09:12:00
thanks for the offer carole, MrK has it sussed :) Muggy here too but at least there is a decent breeze. Need to mow lawns, stuff the compost bin. Tomorrow I'm sober driver for a Christmas party so I know I won't get it done tomorrow or Christmas Eve. Now or never... kiwimade64 - 2014-12-22 13:02:00
great kiwi was it what I said?? still feeling sick spelt most of the day away again. carolev - 2014-12-22 17:07:00
morning ladies :) I think it was carole, he was muttering to himself so I just left him too it lol. Sad news Joe Cocker passed away, one of my all time favourite singers. *hums unchain my heart....* This afternoon I am the sober driver for a Christmas shout but this morning I need to borrow a cat trap to catch two dumped kittens. Have a few fresh vegies to get from the supermarket for Christmas day (I refuse to go into town Christmas Eve) and some more eggs. A quick whip round with the vacuum and I'm done. Tomorrow I hope to potter in the garden, have some plants to plant out. In between all this I shall try and get some knitting done :) happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-23 07:51:00
Morning everyone. Wow Kiwimade I hadn't heard re Joe cocker, he must have been a good age. Great idea being a sober driver. Saves any possibility of accidents being caused by the group and licences too. I cleaned the door of the ranch slider with the karcher this morning. Its brilliant. I reckon its the cleanest its ever been. Cant do the other half till I take the tree down. Will make some more hearts today. and do some more on my second front.. Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-12-23 09:15:00
morning ladies, cooler here this morning. I might have to invest in a karcher for my windows - I can't say it's my favourite job. I love the steam mop I bought a while back for the floors (apart from having to wash the mop head) but it's so easy on the floors and no chemicals. I haven't even put my tree up yet, I got it out yesterday, along with the lights and decorations, but I'm blowed if I can find the big bag of tinsel - I can't imagine where it's gone and I'm sure I would never have thrown it out. The lights work so that's a start. Well one set of them do anyway. Have a couple of sewing jobs to do today or tomorrow, still have to do the curtain for my son, but I've got a little paying job too (it's a bit of pain of a one so I'm not looking forward to it) I will make an effort as it's Christmas and I'm in a good mood - ha! Dr appointment this afternoon. Fingers crossed. Will take my knitting with me 'cos they always keep you waiting. Hope everyone is well. kuaka - 2014-12-23 09:37:00
Hi Kuaka, yes its not too humid today. My green tinsel was MIA.. took me a while to find it. I knew I had some lol I love my karcher.. Its going to fab to soak up all the crying windows. Right Im out now... then I can come home and craft popeye333 - 2014-12-23 09:42:00
morning all. I have a karcher too just love it, still sick please all pray I am well for Christmas day. been so sick done no knitting or sewing, but need to make togs for miss sophie and dolls dresses carolev - 2014-12-23 09:57:00
morning ladies :) Christmas Eve already! One quick trip to the butcher to pick our ham up and that's it for town. He opens early so I can go in very soon and he's on the edge of town so all good. The Furry One found his present under the tree last evening. He sniffed and ferreted it out. Funny thing was his 'cousins' present was beside his but he took the one with his name on it lol. Once he had delicately pulled it out from under other presents, he took off outside with his tail wagging like crazy lol. All we could do was laugh and let him take it. It is Christmas after all. Busy morning in the kitchen making those final bits and pieces, vacuum, wash floor, then this afternoon I can relax. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-24 06:59:00
Morning, Washing on line, cakes in oven, now cup of coffee before wrapping presents and sorting out bag to take to Wellington tomorrow. Am having Christmas with sister's extended family and then will be camping on Sommes Island for a couple of days. Am really looking forward to that and seeing Wellington from a very different angle. Have put in a bit of crochet as just doesn't seem right not to have anything for my hands to do if there is a spare bit of time lol. May you all have a very happy day tomorrow. jayemtoo - 2014-12-24 09:07:00
Morning everyone Another humid day Where has the year gone... ? Very little for me to do today, which is good , since I woke up on my back so have had to take pain meds. It is starting to ease. Trifle to make today. Ill do it in shifts lol do the sponge and fruit bit this morning. Custard tonight. And then cos we have to use the spray cream will just add that tomorrow with crumbled flake. Yummm Ive decided to do MrP's in beer handles instead of my wine glasses. Less chance of breakage that way. I don't have to go to the shops now, until Saturday basically to top up on coke and that will be it. Will finish the 6 hearts I made yesterday, only have to do the ribbons and bells. Knitting my cardy at night.. HAve a good day everyone, and if travelling ,, stay safe popeye333 - 2014-12-24 09:11:00
Morning ladies, well it's wet here, and my sea view has disappeared in the murk - it's certainly not humid, it's not even very warm. Bit like an English Christmas really. I've put clean sheets on the bed but won't do the washing for a few days, it's never going to dry today and I absolutely refuse to do washing on Christmas day. I finally put the tree up last night and put one set of lights on - checked first that they were working. Took me almost an hour to untangle the second set of lights (which I'd already checked still worked) I don't know how they tangle up when they just sit in a bag in the cupboard for a year. Anyway put them on the tree last night but didn't plug them in, plugged them in this morning and they didn't work. Turned out the plug wasn't a good fit for the particular socket I'd used, so tried another and now they work. Grrrr! Have put a few of the decorations on but will put more on this afternoon. Going to try to do son's curtain this morning and have a general tidy up, and then that's it. Relax, and have a couple of drinks. Mr K is in the other room at the moment crooning "I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas" !! I might make a trifle later. I do the custard in the microwave, 5 x 1 minute bursts and it never goes lumpy and it doesn't burn. Somehow I always manage to burn the saucepan no matter how low I have the gas. Right, stop waffling. Go and have a shower. Hope everyone has a fantastic day tomorrow, and have fun today. kuaka - 2014-12-24 10:37:00
I have to admit to being pedantic about putting tree lights away in their original boxes etc. So they tend to last for years. I always make custard in the pot. I rinse the pot out with cold water first, Don't ask me why, but its something mum always did and I always doo and have never burnt custard... I think its one of those, you can either do it or cant. And I don't measure anything cos Ive never been told how much to put in lol Ive done the first stage of the trifles. Actually easier in the handles lol.. But I like my big wine glasses. Have finished the 6 hearts I started yesterday. And printed out some templates for trees and stars. The most relaxed Christmas Ive had for ages lol popeye333 - 2014-12-24 12:33:00
Popeye, I always used to rinse the pot out with cold water first, and used to be able to make custard when I had an electric or ceramic stove top, but even on low, the gas seems too fierce, so that's why I've changed to the microwave. Honestly, I'm not having a good run. Now I've got all the lights on the tree and the decorations, half of one set of lights has decided it won't work and I'm a bit brassed off 'cos I decided to do the curtain for my son having carefully unpicked the hem and then washed the curtain only to discover after I've ironed the b. thing that from the top to the raw edge of the bottom is exactly the measurement he needs it finished. So I either need to put a false hem on it (a right pain) or make a new one. Thinking about doing all those French pleats was giving me the heeby-jeebies, until I remembered that the rest of the curtains in the same fabric in the same room, I didn't do French pleats, I put tape on them, and I have just enough fabric to make one curtain but if I try to put a false hem on the existing one and stuff it up, then I won't have enough fabric to do another. So looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and make a new one. I just don't know why I didn't measure the flipping thing before I unpicked the hem and washed and ironed it. It can wait now till the weekend. Edited by kuaka at 2:01 pm, Wed 24 Dec kuaka - 2014-12-24 13:59:00
Oh Kuaka not your time for it eh..... Id quit while your ahead and look at it later. Ive just done a star and tree for the Christmas bunting, but I don't really like them.. Hard to get stuffing into sharp corners. So I think Ill stick with the hearts, and do heaps of colours. I didn't even put lights on the tree this year. We don't tend to stay up late enough to put them on.. MrP goes to bed early so I sit on my bed reading. Pray Tell Kiwimade, what did the Furry One get for Christmas? Did you manage to catch those poor kittens? popeye333 - 2014-12-24 15:42:00
Id like to say Merry Christmas to all in this thread. Hope you all have a wonderful day... And enjoy your yummy foods, and family time. Take care everyone if you are travelling.. popeye333 - 2014-12-24 18:54:00
Merry Christmas ladies and a very happy New Year! The Furry One 'stole' a rawhide 'cracker' with chewy bits inside it. No wonder his nose was working overtime under the tree lol. I've replaced it with a soft squeaky chew toy, no smells so nothing to help himself too! At least until tomorrow :) The kittens have disappeared, probably scared witless with all the heavy traffic we have been having and the Furry One sniffing and barking along the fenceline. We left food and water out for them but it wasn't touched. take care everyone, happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-24 19:01:00

morning ladies :) wow, Christmas Day was over in a flash! Dad did the obligatory inspection of the house so he could compare paint quotes (he's a painter, retired) and agreed we have a good deal with the painter we chose. The told us he 'approves' of our colour choices - cheeky buggar lol. That was payback for all our teasing him over his 'dates' with his lady friend at the movies lol. Today the family are coming for lunch to help eat the scraps, daughter and her wee family are arriving soon so we get to do the nana and poppa thing and dad gets to be great-granddad. He is such an awesome grandfather, now he can add 'great' to that in more ways than one. Am off to do battle at the red shed to buy the disposables I need to prep the walls now the wallpaper is off. Don't need or want anything else. Hmmm.... what's the bet I find something for Maddy lol. I suspect there will be no knitting for me while Maddy is here, but that's OK. Plenty of time for knitting later. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Christmas carole. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-26 07:59:00
Morning everyone We had the most relaxing day out yesterday. I even slept for an hour which is very rare for me. We too are going to brave the red shed, and farmers. And I have to take the can opener back to briscoes. And as we haven't had any summer fruits yet we will go to our Asian supermarket where it will be the cheapest in town. Sorry to hear you felt that way Carole. I wont let anything upset me for Christmas day. It might the day before. but not on the day. Finished my second front last night and Ive done the ribbing on a sleeve. Ive gone with the long sleeves as I can push them up. I doubt the cuff on the short sleeve would go around my arms. Im still using the third ball so its going a long way. I got 10 lol, so I could probably get two out of it. Well have a good day all... Don't forget the suit of armour if your hitting the sales lol popeye333 - 2014-12-26 08:24:00
morning ladies :) I lost a filling last evening eating a candy cane so dentist for me on Monday. No pain yet thank goodness. Busy day with our grandy, but I plan to be outside if possible. That nasty weed convolvulus is starting to spread again. Our daughter left her crochet at home so has raided my stash and needles. Knitting maybe this afternoon, will see how busy Maddy is. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-12-27 07:51:00
Morning everyone Quiet day here, my right hip is creaky lol... HAve options tho. If it doesn't get too hot I might take the decorations down. Then again I may just sit and knit ... Will have to duck up to the shop either today or looking more like tomorrow. Maybe Im having a procrastination day, There's things I can do but might not do any of them lol Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-12-27 09:19:00
