Had a lovely lunch, cooking my tea now lol. Food, is so comforting in winter. Voltaren upsets my stomach no matter what I take with it. Hope you are feeling better tomorrow. makerealbany - 2014-06-29 17:37:00
First day on holiday! What a disappointment to be in this much pain. I was so looking forward to this week. Starting to really stress about travelling to Blenheim on Friday now. Only 3 days away and really worried whether I'm going to be able to travel. Not sure what to do. grizzly4 - 2014-06-30 06:53:00
Oh no. You poor thing. It should be starting to improve by now. Just came back home. My daughter T still has kidney infection. Antibiotics not working. She had more tests today. I cooked roast pork for their tea. K6 got the apples out of the fridge for me and said" Don't forget the Apple sauce Nana" lol. He loves Apple Sauce. M6 is home on holidays. She's loom crazy now ha ha. Always something. I have started yet another jolly long scarf for a grandson. These tall boys are challenging ha ha. All the boys like either black or navy blue. Boring knitting though. They only like plain rib. makerealbany - 2014-06-30 23:10:00
Teach those grandsons how to knit their own scarves! LOL. Yesterday I made it into the shop for the morning but then slept for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I'm supposed to be having my haircut this morning but hopefully she will do it with me washing it in the shower at home first. No way I could manage the wash basin at the hairdressers. Then I've got to go across to the shop again to pick up last of the end of month stuff. Life goes on but at least trying to get something achieved each day is keeping me sane. LOL. grizzly4 - 2014-07-01 06:22:00
Funny thing two of my sons can knit. One of my older granddaughters was learning to knit and her father told her she was holding her knitting like grim death ha ha. He took her knitting and told her as well as showed her what to do. She raved to anyone who would listen" Myyyyy Dad knows how to knit" M6 asked me to teach her some new patterns today. She stood on her loom and broke it so we did it without the loom. I had to use a fork for one bracelet. Found the instructions online. M made four no five bracelets and two rings. I am now going to knit. It's so peaceful lol. makerealbany - 2014-07-01 18:23:00
The loom bracelets are so popular on our programmes, all the kids know how to make them now without the looms themselves. LOL. Suzy59nz made some animals and mermaids with the bands using patterns she found on line. Very cool. She has them on display at Toyworld where she works. I'm a bit disgusted with the Voltaren tablets from the doctor. I was taking one twice a day plus neurofen in between but nothing was touching the pain. Bought Neuromol from the Warehouse of all places which states they are 200mg ibruprofen and 500mg paracetamol. I checked my prescribed tablets and they are only 75mg ibruprofen!!!!!!!!! This is day 8 and I was able to dry my back properly this morning. At last. LOL. I'm looking for any sign I'm getting over this. Yep, you're right I'm not a good patient. grizzly4 - 2014-07-02 06:54:00
Blimey no wonder you weren't improving. What an idiot. M and I spent the morning sewing and weaving. Up at the beach and it's pouring. J is heading back down to Queenstown tomorrow driving her car Sigh. Two of the other girls on her course are going with her. This weather is freaking her mother and I out. T got her Road Side Assist for breakdowns and her Dad had the car serviced, etc. Such a worry we will be in a state until we know they are there safe. Knitting a Balaclava for my son. makerealbany - 2014-07-02 21:18:00
So blanket and the other scarf you started are all finished? Well done, you are on a roll. I finished a dolls layette last night and I'm using up the last of the wool to crochet a dolls blanket to match. My next project is a 4ply crossover cardy in a pale green that I bought in the Knitworld sale, it's a pretty shade but not sure if it will be as popular as a mint green. Maybe I will do the fairisle on it like the white one but do the pattern in white with a bit of pink . Mmmm..... thinking, thinking. LOL. We are on the road for better or worse tomorrow with lots of stops to ease my back, I guess. This computer chair is the worst in the morning, I'm fine when I first get up but half an hour on here and I cease up. Yeah, I know so don't do it! LOL. But how can I not? I'm off this morning to organise an anniversary balloon, flowers and a cake to take with their other presents tomorrow. The Black Magic Chocolates that we have tried to get arrive in Christchurch on the 15th. Too late for our trip but I have made up a gift voucher to give them and will post to them as soon as I get them. Best I can do, but they'll know we tried. grizzly4 - 2014-07-03 07:04:00
Have a good trip and holiday with your parents. Sun is out here so I have all the windows open, washing flapping and am just finishing the floors. Hope it stays fine. No news from my granddaughter so she must be ok. Told me not to ring lol. Might get an hour knitting before I pick up K from school. makerealbany - 2014-07-03 11:53:00
I had an excellent weekend! Everything we had planned went off so well, I couldn't believe it. We spent the weekend laughing so much we are all exhausted now. My back is still sore but I can move around a lot more easily now. It's back to work for me today with the early starts for the holiday programme. B6 will be here by 7.30am each day this week and coming home with me each afternoon till his Mum finishes work. That will be tiring. grizzly4 - 2014-07-07 06:26:00
It sure will be. My daughter worked all weekend so I looked after my grandson and great grandson. I was exhausted last night. C4 is a right little devil and kept hitting K6 with toys. I got so tired of putting him in time out because he would scream and shout. My grandson tried so hard, sharing his toys trying to get his nephew to play different games. Today K6 spent a quiet day with his Mum. He was very tired. I know that C4s behaviour is indicative of the irrational reasoning his mother exhibits. Instant gratification girl we call her. Lol. It's dreadful because my other grandchildren only want to be with him for a short while and then they have all had enough. I told his father to be firmer with him. Time out is not working so removal of toys he likes for time periods and no treats. He has to learn consequences of his actions. When you discuss his behaviour he apologises but then he does it again. He also taps things hard on tables, etc. I have the feeling he has to entertain himself a lot. He is fine with one person who is focused on him. So glad your weekend went well. As you can imagine no knitting done over the weekend. When they went to bed I was still cleaning lol. Going to get knitting now though. makerealbany - 2014-07-07 20:58:00
I couldn't find my desk it was buried under so much work yesterday! Boy did I hit the ground running and I haven't shifted much of it yet for dealing with other stuff. Phew! grizzly4 - 2014-07-08 06:12:00
Poor you grizzly. Lousy weather up here. I had two of the grandchildren this morning. We made the bracelets with forks. Only had them an hour. Then I baked muffins, coloured my hair and tidied up. I have just had a lovely soak in a hot bath. Wonderful thing about the rain is there is a lot of water. Knitting that Balaclarva but dark wool is awful at night. M6 wants a crocheted bracelet with beads so I'm going to do that now. I like doing small quirky things ha ha. makerealbany - 2014-07-08 21:07:00
Sounds like fun. I'm taking ages doing another crossover cardy with fairisle borders. grizzly4 - 2014-07-09 06:32:00
Oh I found two ruffled scarfs in the UFO bin while I was looking for Cotton for M. One is black so I knitted the last two rows and stitched the ends together. The other is mauve and purple so I only had to stitch the ends together . Very pleased because I like wearing my red one over jerseys. I have a black scarf I have worn so much so happy for a change. Just going to pack up and drive up the coast. makerealbany - 2014-07-09 13:30:00
How long have they been sitting unfinished for the sake of 2 rows? LOL. We had an early night forced on us last night. Major power cut due to some fault on the line cut the power to 3 suburbs. When it didn't come back on after 10 minutes we decided it would be warmer in bed. Typical, for the first evening in ages I was really feeling productive knitting wise. I think the power was back on around midnight thank goodness - I wasn't looking forward to a cold shower this morning and no cup of tea! LOL. grizzly4 - 2014-07-10 06:32:00
Well as I was about to leave for my girls my other daughter rang after being out all day. Apparently although there is denial going on some man threw something in the laundry tub and knocked the tap on. Half a tank of water poured through the house and ran underneath. What a mess. Insurance co have been and gone , come back again, mmmmm. They have 9 heaters blowing through the house. Two are underneath. A, S and J3 are in my cottage and M6 is up here with me. What a fiasco. After a tantrum my Sil settled down lol. They say it will take all weekend to dry out and the floor may have to be replaced in places. They only did all that up 2 years ago. Yes I had forgotten about those scarfs ha ha. I seem to be doing that more and more ha ha. It was terrible up here trees blowing and branches hitting the house. Pohutukawa is huge on the front lawn and it's protected so we do need to cut some branches off . I could hear the waves crashing. Scary. makerealbany - 2014-07-10 20:36:00
And your storm goes on.... weatherwise and family stuff. What we saw of your flooding up there on tv last night looked horrendous and I guess your plans were put on hold. Watched Hope and Wire for the second night last night, played on my mind more than last week so I'm glad it's only a 3 part story. I still think the older couple are amazing, I never thought about people climbing over the Bridle Path to and from Lyttelton when the tunnel and roads were closed off. Roads are still closed off to this day! That used to be our favourite Sunday drive to go over the hill to Lyttelton getting an icecream on the way. LOL. grizzly4 - 2014-07-11 06:34:00
Yes still raining and blowing. I didn't watch Hope and Wire. Mind you haven't watched much TV last couple of days ho ho. Forgot to bring my wool needle up begger it. My black ruffled scarf was admired at the Bowling Club this afternoon. I had to tell some ladies how I knitted it lol. Well my daughter has some knitting but different tension. I'll just borrow some of her wool and start something. makerealbany - 2014-07-11 21:02:00
A bit of a later start this morning. Yippee. I'm going to try vacuuming for the first time since hurting my back. I'm back to doing everything else but still sore if I sit or stand too long or walk too far but definitely getting there. It's been a really good week at work and with B6 here before and after the holiday programme. He's sleeping over tonight too and is very excited about that. There have been no problems with his anger etc all week so I'm wondering what's going on at school. It's not like he didn't mix with some difficult kids either. But they were all amazing all week despite being inside most of the time because of the weather. Staff were all calm and relaxed as well. Wow - here's to a 2nd week the same please! grizzly4 - 2014-07-12 08:30:00
I had another early start. A is going crazy in my cottage with the kids. M6 went back yesterday. House still drying out and she said it sounds like planes in a hanger. So loud. I can't go home until they move out lol. Cooked scones, Choc chip cookies and an Apple pie. I have a roast in the oven and cut my fingers when I was peeling the Veges. Was going to cook more muffins as my grandsons have hollow legs but I'm not now. Even though I have a plaster on my finger. K5 is now dinosaur crazy so they are everywhere and I'm over the dinosaur videos ha ha. He is now making noises. He knows all their names. Clever. makerealbany - 2014-07-12 15:02:00
My daughter arrived home with a big bag of wool. One of the other Midwives would like a crochet blanket . It's all pretty pinks oops and some white. 20 grm balls so a total of 420 in this. Cost her 52.60 with a postage of $11 included. Darn expensive way to buy. Venus made in Thailand. I will have to educate that girl ha ha. makerealbany - 2014-07-12 23:44:00
I reckon! and who's making the blanket? I actually did the vacuuming yesterday and a bit of gardening. Pretty sore after but really pleased I Did it. Even cleaned the shower this morning, I'm a roll! LOL. We're going to trim back the roses today and then I will be happy with my weekend. grizzly4 - 2014-07-13 09:10:00
3 big roses done. Fairisle cardy set done with a wee teddy in matching jersey done plus a separate pair of baby sox. I have started a dolls jacket in Big Baby Fair Isle. Very pretty and going a long way so will get lots of dolls stuff out of the one ball by the looks of it.. Daughter had only minimal time with her boy last week as he was here pretty much each day till bed time and then from Saturday lunch time to Sunday lunch time when she picked him up to take him to his Dad. I hope she sorts herself out by next week. grizzly4 - 2014-07-14 06:23:00
Went to the gym and then over to see my son. They took me out to lunch which was very nice. After that a yoghurt place for desert. Then we went shopping at Katmando. Had a great day. Couldn't eat any tea though lol. Started the blanket lol. A's house is all dry now but floors and carpet and Lino to be replaced. More upheaval. makerealbany - 2014-07-14 21:00:00
Sounds like you had a lovely day! And you've got your house back. LOL. After the shop yesterday I had meetings all day, didn't get home till 8. Sigh. Couldn't warm up and only just managed to finish the dolls jacket. At least I can start a new project tonight. LOL. Ooooh, the suspense....... grizzly4 - 2014-07-15 06:21:00
Lousy day. Phone calls from my Mum and sisters sigh. Legal stuff I had to sort out, then my daughter had legal stuff re her late husbands estate. So far she has paid $50,000 in legal fees and it goes on. She was very fragile tonight after Woking 12 hours and checking her emails. My other daughter has been working with her and the legal team. The other side has so far spent nearly $70,000 of my grandsons money in legal fees but it can't be paid until my daughter signs it off which she is refusing to do. Court date set for end of month. Mediation did not work because they reneged on the agreement and tried to force my daughter to pay an Ird bill for her husband of $70,000. She had already paid $50,000 that she owed because of his financial shenanikins with his family. It never seems to end 2 years and still going. Lawyers are getting richer. My daughter and grandson getting poorer and the family are busy spending the investment on lawyers. It's all about control. My daughter wants an Independant trust like Public Trust, etc because she doesn't trust their financial skills as they have lost their own investments and spending all this money instead of agreeing to it shows they do not have K's interests at heart at all. Plus they are ignoring the will, etc, etc. Honestly I'm glad we have nothing to do with them because I would choke if I had to speak to them. Money is the root of all evil. I'm off to bed, hope I can sleep. Sorry to be a sad case grizzly. makerealbany - 2014-07-15 23:27:00
I am so sorry you are all still going through all this. And I hope you did manage to get some sleep. My Dad is going through something similar with family he hasn't seen in Northern Ireland for 50 years! A lawyer let him know there was family money owing to him but Dad's niece has got her lawyers on to having the payment stopped for whatever reason. The original lawyer won't act unless Dad pays him and at this point he doesn't even know the amount we are talking about to know whether it's worth standing his ground. I googled the Justice Department address and the Ombudsman over there for Dad to contact. But it's certainly not a fast process. My sister is over there next month for the first time but Dad has told her not to have any contact with them, not sure the reason he told her. Dad's really weird about all his family stuff. Mind you, apparently meeting family she's never met on either Mum or Dad's side wasn't a priority for her trip any way. I don't get that at all. grizzly4 - 2014-07-16 06:25:00
Me neither. I loved catching up with family on the other side if the world. Your poor dad. Every time we thought it was settled they demanded more. It shows you what a stupid decision my late Sil made. I know his mother would have nagged the hell out of him. He was a mamas boy. Most likely thought he'd outlive her. She is always supposedly I'll. huh anyway off to court again. Went to the gym this morning to get rid of aggr lol. Then had a haircut, shopped, posted a parcel to my niece, bought a present for my Dil, picked up a parcel for my grandson and then drove to my daughters. Busy but so good to get my list done. Ha ha. My grandson came up from Hamilton to sell one of his cars to his dads delight ha ha. Sold it so very happy. I am now going to work on this blanket. makerealbany - 2014-07-16 20:21:00
So cold down here at present but yesterdays rain was the first in awhile. The frosts aren't too bad if it hasn't rained before. I hope it stays clear today as it's supposed to be -5 tomorrow morning. I started another wee double breasted coat as my next project in an air force blue. Not sure if I have enough wool to do a matching beanie and bootees. We will see...... LOL. grizzly4 - 2014-07-17 06:37:00
Definitely not -5! Thank goodness but where do they pull these figures out from for weather forecasts?! There's a message board on here for patterns that you knit down from the top. Some great links. grizzly4 - 2014-07-18 06:43:00
Cool alright this morning. Supposedly raining tomorrow. I hope not. We are so busy with this legal stuff. It is very stressful sigh. Just sitting doing the blanket. 20 grm balls are hopeless for blankets. I'll use the wool she bought but will tell her not to buy any more of this. Can get the same brand in 100 much cheaper but so far I can only see one place in NZ that sells it. My ex sis in law works there so not keen lol. Had a few problems with them after my 2nd hubby died. Only the women not my BILS. Why are some women such Biarches lol. makerealbany - 2014-07-18 22:14:00
I hope your weekend gives you a break. Thinking of you. grizzly4 - 2014-07-19 10:47:00
I'm going to meet up with 5 mates from TM tomorrow for lunch. Got a free three days. Yippee. I say that now lol. Things change. Arrived home not long ago. My cat is so happy snoozing on my bed because the electric blanket is on. Lol. It was freezing this morning. Frost on the ground but by lunch it was raining. I bet it's cold down there. What dreadful news about that Malaysian Airline. All I know for sure is none of us will ever travel on that airline again. I'm going to jump into my warm bed now. Exciting day tomorrow. Rain, hail or snow. Ha ha makerealbany - 2014-07-20 00:10:00
By the time you posted your message it was already today! LOL. But I hope you are having a good time. We've had 2 lie ins this weekend and a lazy weekend so far. We picked up the chocolates for Mum and Dad we had on order from the UK so I can post them tomorrow, I also picked up some extra wool I ordered from Knitworld to finish a blanket I started a while ago. What a nightmare getting to there though, their shop is being re built and they are operating from a container surrounded by fences and barricades because they are also working on that piece of road which is reduced to one lane. Parking is quite a distance and you have to walk along the road where the cars are moving. Dreadful to have to work there at the moment. After all that we just had to go for a coffee! LOL. grizzly4 - 2014-07-20 10:52:00
What a mission to get your wool lol The things we knitters do. I had an absolutely fabulous lunch. It was lovely to meet everyone. We chatted for ages. Had a nice Lunch. Great food. I'm still on the blanket but the wool is just vanishing ha ha. Crochet does use a lot of wool. Just saw the time I posted ha ha. Do your parents know the chocolates are coming?. They will love them. Got a kiddy free day tomorrow, so far ha ha. makerealbany - 2014-07-20 22:28:00
When I couldn't get the chocolates here in time for our weekend with them I made up a gift voucher promising the chocolates with a picture of them from online. LOL. Weekend continued to be very lazy although I did lots of cooking for the week. I finished my coat set for today and I'm working on getting my blanket too. But mine's definitely 100g balls. Mind you only got 2 extra balls so hope it's enough. I offered to do an order for a 18 month size jersey for the shop and have now found the woman is setting up an online business and she wants a starting order of 10!!!!!!! Yuck. grizzly4 - 2014-07-21 06:18:00
Oh that's a lot to make grizzly. 10 mmmmm. I went to the gym and then spent the day, cleaning, polishing and dusting. It's amazing how messy my cottage gets especially when I'm only here half the time. But then someone always comes in to feed Jed when I'm away. He's asleep on my bed lol. Too cold outside for him. Chewing through the wool now on this blanket. It's all pinks and white. Very girlie ha ha. I have to get on with it before I get sick of the colours lol. makerealbany - 2014-07-21 19:19:00
Got to the shop yesterday morning and found some nasty thug had broken a front window to take one of the dolls. Insurance won't cover it because we lease the shop and landlord won't have a bar of it! Lucky it only cost $172 but we still have to have the new window tinted like the rest to stop stock fading. grizzly4 - 2014-07-22 08:25:00
What a bugger. Honestly the nasty devils that are around these days. One of our neighbours has had several breakins. People have been opening farm gates and letting stock out. The egg stall has been robbed again. Everything is going to the dogs as my dear old Dad used to say. I went to the gym again as I am now up in Orewa for 2 days, home on Friday then back up Friday night for the weekend. Need to keep my exercise up so got a pass to go to the gym up here. I'm not buying larger size clothing lol. makerealbany - 2014-07-22 21:18:00
Good job! It's like you have more than 1 home. LOL. Taking the Women's Group to the movies this afternoon to see "Jersey Boys". We haven't done that for ages. Won't be a full group as a couple are away on holiday, a couple are very unwell and a couple are still very nervous of dark theatre type places. Me too, I still can't go to a movie in any of the malls. We use a small privately owned theatre in one of the suburbs. Unfortunately it's in Sumner so the bus ride is past the houses that are falling off the hills and over a bridge that's being rebuilt. I drove through the inner city the other day and there was detour to take part way through. Boy, I did lose my bearings after that 'cos there are no familiar points of reference any more and some street signs are still missing. Just cleared sites and the ones closest to the river are green grass now as they can't be used for a few years in the rebuild. I realise I'm used to seeing concrete slabs being used for buildings prior to the earthquake and it's a bit of a shock seeing enormous steel girders these days and yet the few that are finished still look to be mainly glass. grizzly4 - 2014-07-23 06:17:00
Morena grizzly you do have to wonder at the reasoning behind all this glass mmmm idiots. I wouldn't go into a theatre in the malls either if I was down there. Hope you have a great day at the movies. It is chilly here, sun is out and washing is blowing in the wind. I am cleaning lol. All the windows are open and I am working up a sweat. Nothing like housework to get you warm ho ho. makerealbany - 2014-07-23 10:46:00
Movie was great. But 45 minutes longer than expected so our bus was kept waiting. Boy was she grumpy. I apologised profusely but we had turned all our phones off so I wasn't checking the time. Oh well, sigh. Seemed to be one of those days.... I started a beanie (child size not babies for a change) to use up 2 balls of wool I had sitting around. Went to change to the 2nd ball and it was a different batch so every colour in the variegation was a different shade!!!! I haven't ripped it out yet still pondering. (or stewing). grizzly4 - 2014-07-24 06:24:00
Sounds interesting. Does it look ok? I have run out of the deep pink for the blanket so was trying to order more and the delivery is $12 for the courier grrrr. It's not like it is in the South Island. Ah . K is up already. He is such an early bird. I have a 70th birthday lunch on Sat. Still haven't worked out her pressie yet. Sigh. makerealbany - 2014-07-24 07:07:00
Yep it does look ok, strangely enough, so going with it. The difference shows more at night. Will the other shades last for the blanket or will you have to get more as well? I have split my thumb at the edge of my nail and it's making knitting and especially sewing up a devil of a job. Happens occasionally when my hands are too dry despite using hand creams at least twice a day. grizzly4 - 2014-07-25 06:32:00
Yep I do that too. I always seem to have a bandaid on a finger from a cut or a split nail. I have to cover it because I catch it on my knitting. Know what you mean. Hazards of crafting lol. The other shades I can match already with wool in my stash. I asked Ezyquilt if they have the 100 gm balls and they are listing some this weekend. I'll ask about my shade in a minute lol. I had an easy day today but the weekend is looming lol. My daughter will be shattered after 5 days of long shifts. Court on Tuesday as well. Hand cream is absorbed so quickly on my hands. They are always dry. Old age ha ha makerealbany - 2014-07-25 22:42:00
That's what I'm putting mine down to as well. LOL. And I'm always busy so washing them all the time doesn't help either regardless of the soap I use. We had a lovely dinner just the two of us at Lone Star last night for our 34th anniversary. (Don't know where those years went). grizzly4 - 2014-07-26 09:34:00
Oh a belated Happy Anniversary. Lone Star serves big portions don't they? My boys used to love it. Had a fab time today at my Dil's Mum's 70th. Just immediate family and two of us Mils. Great venue out in the country. Scrumptious food. Lots of singing, laughing, speeches and fun. I ended up buying her a large cup and saucer pot plant holder and a cyclamen to go in it. All the girls wanted to know where I bought it. I raced out last night after my daughter got home from work. Really pretty. It was a very special day as E is recovering from her second heart attack. Ate really well lol but I have drunk so much water today, just really thirsty all day. Joined the Detashers group on a Facebook. I really have to cull down my crafts lol. Famous last words. I'm off to bed early just so tired . Got one more day up here and it's home tomorrow night for me. 5 days away is long enough ha ha makerealbany - 2014-07-26 22:12:00
Hello :) healthynz67 - 2014-07-27 08:11:00
Hi twinklestar! When my lovely big expensive sewing machine died of natural causes after 25 years I bought a wee brother from Knitworld for $199 for exactly the same reasons as you. I just needed a bit of sewing done for me these days and mending, of course. It's been great, really light to move around and I've used it for heaps of things. I don't think I've used all the things it can do yet either. LOL. Good luck! grizzly4 - 2014-07-27 10:31:00
