thanks EA, i had hoped to hear yesterday but didnt, just thought of something i hadnt told you all...ive noticed organic goods in the supermarket here are often the same price or a tiny weeny bit dearer, so im buying alot more organic...its not the same for fruit and vege, but frozen, cans, jars, and meat are comparable...e.g frozen peas, peanut butter, beef, tomato sauce etc.

Hi Pam et al...I've been in OZ too...just had my annual Melbourne holiday, with so much indulgent eating that I need to redeem myself before it all starts again at Christmas.

I caught the comedy gig of the Mime Clown who won this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival - 'Dr Brown', whose act was so brazenly interactive that I cowered in case I was hauled out of the audience for humiliation - or theatre sports, depending on how you look at it - as two of our party of four did. I saw South Pacific in the grand old 1880s theatre, keen to hear NZ opera star Teddy Tahu Rhodes in a musical, with his co-star Lisa McClune (of Blue Heelers etc). I caught Jack Kerouac's movie On the Road and the AFL final on TV which always stirs Melbourne into a frenzy and I managed to fill each 24 hour day with enough activity for 48!

I think if I lived in Melbourne I'd find a cool minimalist apartment without a real kitchen, as Mayor Bloomberg of New York City is suggesting to create new affordable apartments for young Manhattanites. When there are so many places to eat well right on the doorstep and so much fun to have outside the house, why slave over a hot stove!

Elliehen tres jealous!

Hi Everyone.. I've been thinking of you all, hope all is well for each of you. it's ages since I've read the posts here.. lovely to catch up with you all :-)

It must be a Melbourne time of year.. I've been there till last week, enjoying my time there and also was nurse to Chris.. he had knee reconstruction surgery - needed after a mountain biking accident, and when Sarah, his Partner, was at work, I was number one carer :-) Chris was delighted when I suggested I go over - Sarah and I were together when Chris got back from theatre, after hugs for Sarah, he reached his arms out and said, 'wow, look at you here Mum!' awww... :-)

He had one operation where part of his cartilage was removed, then the week later they left on holiday.. he was Bestman for a friend in Vancouver - he and Sarah had a month in Vancouver, New York and Mexico, and returned to Melbourne the week before his second surgery. He's healing well..

Ellie, one of the things we did was go to South Pacific..I agree with you about Teddy Tahu Rhodes being a bit wooden.

Prior to that I was nurse for Jenni's Partner - Andrew had shoulder surgery and I went to help there too, and to have time with them both.. he's healing well too, can't wait to get back to work and was disappointed when the surgeon said last week that he's off for at least another month. We're away again from Sunday.. then I plan to be home for a while.. love being away.. even better being home.. :-)

My garden looked amazing when we returned home - fruit tree blossom everywhere, some finishing, some in full flower, some just starting to blossom - cherry, apple, peach, plum, pear, grapefruit, orange, mandarin, lime, lemonade, fig, tamarillo, blueberry, guava, persimmon, apricot, grape, nectarine, etc.. several tree's of different types of some of those fruits.. and including the amazing new 'Mabel' nectarine - named for a lady in Hamilton who found a seedling tree beneath her blackboy peach tree.. grew it and it turned out to be a nectarine tree with deep maroon leaves, and a similar colour skin with white flesh.. I tried some last summer from an orchard, just divine, and planted a tree in autumn. I've planted the tree so it'll be behind and to the side of my tallest and most beautiful weeping kowhai tree, then a deep pink manuka to the other side.. apples nearby, and an amazing deep maroon acer.. the colours together will be quite something to see each Spring.

I grow a lot of plants to feed bee's, bumblebee's and butterflies.. and have a wealth of them throughout my garden.. my experience is that growing a lot of flowers that bee's love - particularly herbs, and including borage growing beneath and between fruit tree's, means that bee's will be in my garden - it's worked beautifully here, and it's lovely to see them here in great number's.

Does anyone know of a lemon type that would fruit during Winter here in the Bay of Plenty.. I have a gap in fruit from my lemon tree's during winter and would love to grow another tree to fill that gap. Not Lisbon or Meyer.. I'm hoping there is something for that timing. Will check with my garden centre too.

I made orange marmalade and lemon and orange marmalade earlier tonight.. 7 jars of each to share, might make another batch.. made some with just lemon's too last Spring.. Jenni's favourite.. yes please Mum! lol..

Have a wonderful Friday.. and a Labour weekend that's just the way you want it to be... ciao...

I hope the weather is gardening-friendly where you are and the only labouring you are doing is in your gardens.
I'm enjoying the day & my birthday at work ...
One of my colleagues put a sign on the back of my computer screen saying that it's my birthday so everyone who has come in to the i-SITE today has given me their best wishes :) I'm feeling the love lol!

Thanks for the nice wishes everyone :)
I had a very quiet night at home alone but Miss 15 had been over for the weekend so we had my birthday tea courtesy of the noodle canteen on Sunday night.
Hope you're both well again now Pam xx
Mum has given us a scare with heart pains & got a ride to hospital in an ambulance yesterday. They are keeping her there while doing more tests ... she's in good spirits but it's very worrying.

A belated Happy Birthday Rae and Pamela.. hope you both had special days to celebrate..

How is your Mum Rae? I hope she's healing well and is home again.. thinking of her and of you..

Waves hi to everyone.. :-)

Hi Ellie.. yes a lemonade tree is in the list in my post.. after leaving it to grow for a while without flowering, flowers are on it now for its first crop next year and I'm looking forward to the fruit.. my friends would probably think I was eating a lemon, as they're one of my favourite fruit's.. and yes I eat them freshly peeled and tart and delicious.. my kids think it's no accident one of my Meyer tree's is growing outside the master bedroom here! I'm also growing a Tahitian Lime to eat fresh also.. first flowers on that too.. so many tiny fruit are on tree's all throughout my gardens, lucky there's lot's of space here.. I now have growing 56 fruit tree's/vines/plants.. and room to add a few more..

I love the mandarin's that are currently in shops, I think both the NZ and Australian mandarin's available are the same type.. thin skinned though fairly easily peeled by hand, juicy and flavoursome.. does anyone know what they are??

Take good care all..

TGIF!!!
I'm ready for a day off .... and it's going to be the one wet day we get this week. Murphy's Law aye?!!

Mum's out of hospital again but not doing that great yet. The tests really knocked her around - but in her words "She's a tough old bird". I hope she's right.

Hi Julie - your garden sounds wonderful :) You need to share a photo of it with us sometime.
My brother gave me Bunnings vouchers for my birthday so I'm off to spend them on my plants for my container garden tomorrow.

Waves to everyone else - including the lurkers :)
I know there are folks who pop in here but never say anything.
Please feel free to say hi and introduce yourself ... new friends are always welcome.

Pan you are sounding very well from how under the weather you were a few months ago. Good luck with your trip, we had a drive around the southern Highlands yesterday beautiful spots amazing waterfall at fitzroy and there are some lovely winery's we brought some amazing rosé wine at mount ashby estate the couple there have an old shed filled to the brim with French antiques they go every year and buy chandeliers etc . So another spot worth having a look at and not far from where you are going. Hope your mum is coming right Winnie. I don't come on thread so often as my dual life keeps me busy lol. Last month we had 3 days where we didn't have people staying that was sydney as well as NZ, there is so much to see in sydney there's always something else on, there's a ballet exhibition on the state library just started the spaces in theses buildings just blows one away, my fav is the art gallery and I generally walk down through the botanical gardens to the opera house and around to circular quay and get the train home on Friday I was sweating my way throu the gardens stopped for lunch in the museum of contempory art which looks over circular quay the heavens opened and 20 cent piece sized hailstones came down - all had on was a sleepless top and it was fine apparently it is quite common for the rain to start and hailstones follow!,
