Hey Folks,

I see that this Saturday (Tomorrow morning) the Timaru Philatelic Society are holding one of the two Stamp Fairs they hold each year. However there is some confusion over where the fair will be as I see their Newsletter says it will be held in the Red Cross Hall in Barnard St, Timaru from 10am to 3pm but last time I was in Timaru the Red Cross Hall was in Bank St. Does anyone know if the Red Cross hall has moved or are the Philatelic Society members being sent on a wild goose chase. Does anybody know and post the correct details here please.

So where's the best place to sell old stamp collections, I have a collection here that I'm not interested in but unsure where to even start looking. Are Stamp dealers reputable ?? I guess I'm a bit of a cynic !

If you deal with a member of the NZ Stamp Dealers Association you have an added layer of protection. If you also deal with a Stamp dealer who has been trading full time from before the start of the internet then you have a further gaurentee. Lastly ask a few of your friends around to recommend a particular dealer.

From my experience most stamp dealers are very honest and trustworthy but like any profession there will be exceptions. I'd suggest that you talk to 2 or 3 and deal with the one you feel most comfortable with.

I discovered that the Stamp fair in the Red Cross Hall in Timaru was still in Bank Street and that the notice in the Timaru Philatelic Society's newsletter was wrong. The fair attracted a wide range of folk from as far afield as Southland and throughout Canterbury with a sizeable number driving down from Christchurch. I counted about 17 members of our Christchurch based NZ Stamp Collectors club there

I didn't see this until after the event! Any idea when the next one will be or where they're advertised?

Many thanks. I'll be there for sure. Always a bargain or two present and a great chance to meet up with fellow collectors and find out what everybody is chasing.

If you are into 1898 Pictorials, I saw this book at Mowbray's stamp auction yesterday

http://blog.stamplibrary.org/index.php/2014/06/30/new-book-o
n-the-1898-pictorial-issue-of-new-zealand/

the price is 155 NZD.

Interesting bidding at Mowbray stamp auction today, One beautiful collection of 1891-1895 advertisement stamp collection, went for 11K. A collection of heatlh FDC, went for 2.5K, fierce bidding between two dealers

Does anybody know what the Swedish rebate stamps are issued for? What sort of a rebate and how does the system work. They are listed in the stamps catalogues as ordinary stamps but called Rebate stamps. In my way of thinking a rebate is a refund. Are they just discounted postage rate stamps or something else? I have trawled the internet and can't find an answer so far so who can answer the query?

They look like crude forgeries to me.

The seller's comment "I found them in a very old album I purchased" doesn't tally if they were previously listed as auction 658407905.
His other comment "don't bother me if you are not satisfied with the stamps. And lousy feedback will be fully reciprocated !" would suggest he knew they were forgeries and was expecting the buyer to be dissatisfied.

I'm not an expert on the Auckland Exhibition but they look like forgeries to me as the overprint doesn't show through to the back of the stamp.
Also it looks as though the overprint has been put on top of the postmark.
Does this "David" guy actually buy anything?
He's placed bids on several of my items but never taken up an offer.
Now blacklisted.

Certainly forged overprints and not even good ones at that.

It is a blatant case of a rip off. This seller should have been outed before now however.

To be fair, the seller did say "I cannot confirm if they are the real deal" ... however that's not quite the same as saying THESE ARE FORGERIES ... which is how they were described when he bought them on 16th March (auction 704659145)

Always popular. I have been selling quite a few recently and I always start off at a basic $5 per stamp for the 1d and 2d values and then go up from there for the higher face values and scarcer colours of the overprints. You have to remember that 8d values are nearly just as common with and without advertisements on their backs.

Kiwisteven, Don and other experts. Interested in your comments or knowldge of first known use of the stamp in this auction. 800487584. I want to help ensure an accurate description and not mislead anyone. I believe there will be a stamp and postcard fair at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville st, Riccarton in Christchurch tomorrow morning (Saturday). It is always a great place to catch up with other stamp collectors and show off some of your recent Trademe buys and even fill in some gsaps in those collections recently acquired.

I carefully considered that before buying, so went in with my eyes open. I'm confident it's 1931 - same angle of 1's. Also, the Lemon was replaced by the orange later in 1931, so highly unlikely it was used as late as 1937. It was already "scarce", so people kept them and didn't use them.

Hi Don. The other thing you have going for it is that most of the heavy parcels postmarks were replaced in 1935 /36 because of the introduction of the beautiful 1935 Pictorial stamps. It is really a matter of being happy with it yourself.
