that's lucky T can fix the freeview box carole and doubly lucky your car has sold :) Well I watched the rugby live online thanks to soulsister's link to the game. Thoroughly enjoyed it too, not so much that we won, that was a given, but I love watching developing teams. My American friend loved the game too, but he's sports nuts anyway lol. I've frozen the first of the rhubarb and will wait for a bit more to grow before I make a crumble. It's a good day for crafting, hope everyone is staying out of the wind! happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-02 15:01:00
Well done Carole re the car.. you will feel pleased about that... Ive not done any stitching.. lol Instead I cleaned and tidied the Tupperware cupboard, a couple of thigns for the oppy or school gala. some recycles. so then I went and did the pantry in the garage. Have put a chicken on for tea. Somethings wrong with my dryer. its stopped spinning and just making groaning sounds every so often. sort of like urghh,, silence Urghh silence.. Hope its just over heated or maybe a bit dusty in the back. A quick looky on here and then Ill do some veges to go with the chicken and do insulin etc popeye333 - 2014-11-02 15:37:00
Morning everyone.. What a warm night.. Had my fan on all night ,just my little desk one but if it stays like this the big one will have to go on. Have done very little crochet on the weekend. but got back onto the runner for the back of the couch last night.. Im trying to make it look like brickwork. Ill take a picture later. Wet as this morning so I don't expect to see the lawn boys.. Even the Daisys have their heads closed up. Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-11-03 09:16:00
http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/342035417.jpg My runner for the back of the couch.. I was playing around seeing what I could do. I wanted something that looks like brick work, think I managed it. popeye333 - 2014-11-03 09:59:00
Like the look of your runner, you are adventous with your crocheting.Like the colour too. jord37 - 2014-11-03 19:58:00
morning ladies :) Great work on your runner popeye. Have you thought of crocheting in cotton? Just another challenge for you! Off to school today and tomorrow teaching the littlies. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-04 07:20:00
Morning everyone. Off to take Missy to have her stitches out today.. My friend said she has never taken them back to have stitches out, she does it herself. but I want to make use of the visit for them to check and make sure all is ok. Had MrP at the med centre last night. His umbilical hernia grew by a 1/3rd yesterday.. The Dr managed to push it back in, showed me how to do it too. We have been to drs about it before, and the super clinic to see about surgery and no one had ever showed us how to put it back. so now we can do it. HAve a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-11-04 07:30:00
morning all good luck kiwimade I think I might go back to bed in a lot of pain . started a jumper for D in the usa. carolev - 2014-11-04 07:30:00
Well the weather was pretty miserable most of yesterday, rained till well into the afternoon, by the time the sun decided to shine it was time to cook tea, so we didn't get to sit on the deck and enjoy it (the sun that is). Have started to do some varnishing - the handrail on the staircase (well the extension bit) and the towel rail in the en suite which I started sanding down about two years ago and never finished the prep, it now has one coat of varnish on. Do another one today. Also spent some time with my friend and her knitting problems. I think we have finally got it sussed, although she phoned me in a panic yesterday afternoon, having decided that what she had done so far was all wrong and she was going to pull it all apart. I said, no, start again with a fresh ball of wool and see if you can get it right, and then you can decide which piece looks better and go with that. My afternoon out today and I need to pop to town this morning, and hopefully we can go for a walk. Probably won't get much crafting done till this evening. Snapper again for tea. It was delicious yesterday, it was delicious Sunday, and there's no reason to think it won't be delicious tonight. I could live on snapper 5 days a week at least and never get sick of it. Sadly I can't afford to at $30kg. Talking of which, at the farmer's market last week I almost bought I a bag of mushrooms for $5 but commented that it was very light. 165gm the woman told me. That works out at $30kg, so I didn't bother. Better take some painkillers carolev. Happy knitting everyone. kuaka - 2014-11-04 07:49:00
Morning ladies. Foggy again here, so hope it clears. We are waiting for the plumber to arrive. Yesterday morning I noticed that the hot water wasn't very hot, and it seemed that the hot water cylinder element or thermostat must have stopped working so the electrician came yesterday afternoon and checked it and it needs a new element BUT because the cylinder itself is so old and starting to rust and about to leak water, we are getting a new one. The plumber came yesterday after the electrician and he gave us a price (apparently - 'cos I was out) and he's supposed to be coming back at 8.30 to install a new one. Mr K said to me yesterday afternoon, "aren't you going to have a nice long cold shower?" Er, that will be a no, thank you very much. Knitting this morning, then grocery shopping and a few other bits, over in Kerikeri, might just pop in to the spca with some fabric for kitty blankies and check out the kittens. Happy knitting everyone. kuaka - 2014-11-05 08:05:00
Well change of plan. The plumber arrived all set to fit the nice shiny new cylinder and then realised that we have a wet back on the woodfire and the cylinder doesn't have the right fittings for that, so off he went to phone and order the correct cylinder and then came back to tell us that it won't be available until Friday and will be an extra $400 or so over and above the price originally quoted (all plus gst of course), so one hot water cylinder and the vet bills, over $2000. Just as well I have some pennies in my piggy bank, and no hot shower till Friday evening by the looks of it. We've decided to leave the grocery trip till tomorrow and will go in the morning instead of this afternoon. Now I must find some "no think" knitting or crochet to take to knit and natter this morning. Have fun everyone. kuaka - 2014-11-05 09:01:00
Morning everyone Im late cos my big bro rang and we had a good catch up. Was nice to hear from him Have a good day all popeye333 - 2014-11-05 09:49:00
I reckon that's a record.. I ordered my Deramores order about this time on Oct 30th.. and it arrived here this morning about 10 am.. A few hours under 5 days. Love my new Addi crochet hook... Its much easier to hold onto. not sure if this is the one they call Swing hooks.. Still trying to find that out on fb http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/342414708.jpg And my red sparkly yarn is a real Scarlet red but is soo pretty.. Ive done 5 flowers already and very happy So much for my plans to start some knitting this morning... I was just going to get some wool and pattern when the courier arrived lol Hope everyone has had a good day. popeye333 - 2014-11-05 15:54:00
oh, I ordered a book on-line must be 3 weeks ago and still waiting - will give it a bit longer before I start making noises. Might have some exciting news soon, but not saying what yet!!!!!!! kuaka - 2014-11-05 18:45:00

evening ladies :) We're watching 'the intrepid journeys' on TV1, what an awesome series. Another days teaching for me, so no knitting or crafting again. Just too tired after school :) oohh exciting news, now I am curious! Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-05 21:05:00
Shouldn't be too hard to guess kiwimade! (and no - I'm not pregnant!) kuaka - 2014-11-05 21:14:00
You found a new baby I bet Kuaka. When you went to town. Can't wait to hear. Well I finished my book and will have a quick look here then sleep if the fireworks don't go on too late popeye333 - 2014-11-05 21:56:00
We didn't go to town today in the end, going tomorrow instead. But, yes, think we have a new baby to join us next week - fingers crossed. kuaka - 2014-11-05 22:12:00
morning all. raining here good day to knit and sew carolev - 2014-11-06 08:46:00
Morning everyone. Will spoil MrP and get him some asparagus, he loves the stuff. Im working away on the runner for the back of the couch and flowers for the table runner. Kuaka Im going to have a look now Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-11-06 09:01:00
oohhh lovely kuaka! Exciting stuff :) Been teaching again today so busy busy :). Too pooped to knit so will crash tonight, get dad's vegie garden in for him tomorrow, then put my feet up. Hope everyone has managed a few rows today. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-06 19:29:00
I will put up some pics when we get her, but meantime the ad which asked for a new home for her, and then said she'd found a new home, has been withdrawn so I can't point you at it. Hoping this doesn't mean someone else has snaffled her. I will be very disappointed if we don't get her. kuaka - 2014-11-06 21:34:00
Morning everyone... Have a good day everyone popeye333 - 2014-11-07 08:53:00
morning all. I hate being sick carolev - 2014-11-07 09:35:00
morning ladies :) I haven't picked my needles up for days now, in between school and weeding dad's garden yesterday I just haven't had the time or energy. Have some plants to plant today for me and housework to do, then maybe I can get the needles out. It's going to be a gorgeous day so I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy it. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-08 07:30:00
Morning ladies, what a relief yesterday afternoon to have the plumbers turn up and fit the new hot water cylinder, which arrived with a length of copper pipe held in place along the outside of the cylinder by a bracket at one end which was screwed to the cylinder and another screw at the other end actually through the copper pipe and into the cylinder. When the old one was removed, there were two large holes which had rusted away where the original bracket had been holding the copper pipe in place. The other hole which had been through the copper pipe had not rusted. I commented on it and the plumber said he'd never seen one go like that before and they always secure the copper pipe like that. Just our luck I thought. Maybe they should tape the pipe on instead. It's only done for transport, it's not where the pipe is used. Anyway it was a real treat to have a nice long hot shower last night and it felt quite luxurious getting into a nice clean bed having just had a lovely shower. Dreading getting the bill though, they were here on Tuesday, again on Wednesday and then two of them for 3 hours yesterday plus the cost of the cylinder and he asked me if we wanted him to fit a "tempering valve" and explained what it was and I said I guess so, and he said "well that's good, 'cos you have to have one by law". I thought well why ask? Not sure if we are going to Kerikeri today, Mr K wants to buy a new barbecue or whether we will go on Monday, but if we're home it will be housework for me. How exciting I hear you say! Might even try to do some weeding if my back lets me. Hope you're feeling better carolev and everyone has a super day. kuaka - 2014-11-08 08:24:00
Morning everyone.. Kuaka I bet it was like heaven having a long hot shower. One thing about having it on wet back you will soon "Pay" it off so to speak in powerless water heating. Miss my coal range for that. We will be going out soon, the C.M.A have their second sale of work for the year today.. Although Ive never had any connection with the group Ive always supported it, since I was a kid. Have an awesome day. Going to be great weather and if My back does hold out I must transfer some violets too... Then we have the dept of statistics coming to do a short survey on employment.. Thank god its not the money survery that takes a month of keeping record of every sent you spend. Have a great day popeye333 - 2014-11-08 08:57:00
popeye when I took my "little rat" to the vet to get her stitches out, the nurse just held her up like a rabbit by holding her under her armpits, and she just sort of "dangled" without moving and the vet just went snip, snip, snip and that was it. And you are right of course, about the wetback as it saves us heaps in the winter, but I'm looking forward to summer at the moment, and hoping that next winter will be mild like this one was. kuaka - 2014-11-08 09:13:00
I can see how that would work Kuaka.. we sat on the bed and I held her front paws in my left hand, and the back ones in my right.. she couldn't move an inch lol... Her fur is growing back faster than Missy's... and she had 3 stitches Missy only had two. Got Sahree done without any blood drawn so that's good. The CMA sale had some lovely craft items for sale.. I got a new clock for the kitchen.. And a bead bracelet, a total of $3 lol. Winter was Mild eh, I feel a little short changed . Hope its cooler tomorrow cos we will plant our tomatoes and the bean seeds I got. Yay. popeye333 - 2014-11-08 12:15:00
I have a large stash of yarn yet to be knitted so I am glad I am not the only one that cant resist buying. I love knitting for baby and toddlers & was pleased when my two great grand children arrived & I was able to pick up the needles again. But alas their mother doesn't seem to like knitting so here I am thinking of other ideas for the ever increasing stash. fordlady3 - 2014-11-08 13:42:00
Welcome Fordlady... Such a shame alot of the younger ones don't like knitting and home made.. I think it is becoming More Cool, but there will always be those who just don't like it. or its not trendy enough. Ive yet to figure out why the stashes keep growing even when we do so much knitting and crochet. Even tho I very seldom miss a day without doing some sort of yarn work, my stash grows.. lol.. Im currently doing a runner for the back of our couch.. Im over half way but am enjoying it.. popeye333 - 2014-11-08 15:47:00
hi all still not right so no knitting here carolev - 2014-11-08 19:29:00
Sorry to hear that carolev, maybe you need to see the doc tomorrow? Fabulous morning here so far, hopefully we will go for a nice walk later this morning, and then after a bit of a tidy up I can sit out on the deck and enjoy the sunshine and do some knitting. Also have some hand sewing to do and as it's black, it's best done in the daylight. (hand stitching the hems on some black trousers) Have a super day everyone kuaka - 2014-11-09 09:02:00
Afternoon everyone... A glorious day although our cold wind is here now.. I have slippers on again. Not normal for me. We have had a productive morning... I popped Missy into her carrying cage and we went out and planted beans and tomatoes. Finally got around to doing the violets. So this afternoon Ill put the handle and Daisys on then crochet. The runner is growing.. Must be close to 2/3rds of the way now I think. I cant sit out in the sun, one of the meds Im on means I fry. Not that Ive ever been one for the sun really. But I do have to be carefull, even when driving too. Might be best for you to see the drs Carole, its been a while now eh.. Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely weather, catching up on outdoor jobs. Have a great day popeye333 - 2014-11-09 12:24:00
hi ladies :) I third you need to see the doc carole, this has been going on too long now. MrK wants to buy a few more bits and pieces from Mitre 10 so we're off out the door shortly. Had a busy morning this morning with lots of visitors :) Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely day. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-09 13:09:00
Its been an awesome day... I can already tell the fine weather is making a difference to my moods.. more positive now.. I went through the treat foods recipes I want to make over Christmas and have made a list of how much I need of everything. And its not as bad as I thought it would be. Ill buy a couple of things each week and it will soon be amassed to cook with. I did Mitre10 yesterday. And Im very pleased with the microfibre clothes I got, we are using them for tea towels and they really dry things well. All the old useless teatowels will be used as rags till they are gone and Ill sell the big ones I got a while back, but don't like. Washing is in, folded and ready to put away when MrP wakes up. he hasn't been too good today Have a fab day everyone popeye333 - 2014-11-09 15:33:00
What a fabulous day, the weather was glorious. I did a few chores, we went for a walk, I shortened a pair of trousers and sat out on the deck and did some knitting and then decided I would sew new buttons on a cardigan which has "flurry" round the neck and cuffs, and which I'd replaced as it had gone manky. Last time we were in Whangarei at the emporium I carefully selected buttons which were a perfect match for the new coloured "flurry" I decided to use, and when I went to sew them on I realised they are too big to go through the buttonholes. Grrrrr! kuaka - 2014-11-09 20:58:00
morning ladies :) We had a fab day yesterday too. MrK's truck sold to our neighbour's son and the scrap metal man came so MrK is feeling much happier. Today I have lots of things to do in town and I need to finish dad's garden for him before I can sit down. I have almost finished the piece of hardanger for me, almost got there yesterday but had visitors. All I could do was look at it lol. Oh well, it will get done. Spotlight have a big sale today I see. Am tempted as I need embroidery thread but I know it won't just be the thread aisle I wander into! How frustrating about the buttons kuaka, but on the bright side, it means knitting something for the buttons now lol. I need to buy some buttons for a pair of capri pants I have, there are 'brass' buttons on the cuff but I have lost two. Looks silly with missing buttons and it is a small job to replace them all. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-10 07:22:00
Yes, I don't seem to have much luck with buttons (or zips) never the right colour and the right size, usually one or the other. It's only an old cardi (machine knitted in black) and at the moment it has tiny triangular mauve buttons 'cos the flurry was mauve and pink. It now has burgundy, deep pink and green flurry, which looks nice, and I have found enough green buttons which might look okay. I'll see, otherwise it will have to wait till I can buy more buttons (it's not as though I haven't already got hundreds, if not thousands). Looks like being another fabulous day. Must try and do some housework before relaxing today. And have to make a dozen phone calls to see how many are coming to our usual afternoon games afternoon tomorrow, as it's my turn to host it. That only involves getting out the tea cups, making and pouring the tea and putting some bikkies on a plate. Usually everyone mucks in and washes the cups. I hope you are off to the doc today carolev if you're not feeling vastly improved. Have a fab day everyone. kuaka - 2014-11-10 08:10:00
Morning everyone. Totally enjoyed the weekend and its weather and getting a lot of stuff done. Taking MrP to the drs this morning for a 6 month check up to get his pills. Hes the last appointment at lunchtime so it will be over the time but it means we wont have to rush when in with him. Will check the length on the Antimacassar this morning.. Don't want it to be too long. Might take something diff to work on while we wait. Excellent news re the truck etc Kiwimade... one les things to think on eh. HAve a great day everyone popeye333 - 2014-11-10 09:11:00
*pats herself on the back* I was soooo gooodd at Spotlight lol... no yarn. BUT I did buy some linen to stitch and some more thread... $80 thank you very much and that was with my VIP card. Still, it will be for a wedding pressie and that's what I would spend anyway, if not more, for a gift. dad's garden is done and he's a happy chappy. Most of my jobs are done in town, have the car booked in to replace the fog light cover which I broke when I parked the car too close to a board sticking out of the ground. Time for a cuppa and to do some crafting. happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-10 14:29:00
WELL DONE Kiwimade..Thats about the same as I spent in Aug/Sept at spotlight.. Havent been since so not too bad.. Im off to CMA tomorrow, as MrP said it will be good for me to be out of the house a while. but if Men go I might encourage him to go too. otherwise he only talks to me and the odd phonecall. Was two hours at the med centre, no grumpys this time tho thank goodness. Finished the Antimacassar before we left. I only need to do two more rows and the end row. Ill clear mrPs junk off later and take a photo. don't know if Ill have enough to do both arms. so might just do one for the end he sits at. Beautiful day here now.. Have a great day all popeye333 - 2014-11-10 14:47:00
We went shopping today intending to buy a new barbecue, but we went in the little car instead of the old fwd wagon and discovered we couldn't fit the barbecue in the car, so will have to go shopping in the old Safari next time. I managed to make an excuse to live Mr K on his own for a while and zapped to the sewing shop and bought buttons for my cardi, they aren't as nice as the ones I had which are too big - I wouldn't be at all surprised if these aren't too small. I shall find out soon as I'm about to try them. kuaka - 2014-11-10 20:06:00
Morning everyone. Kiwimade your Hardanger is absolutely beautiful. I like hand stitching but don't have the eyesight for it.. Im going to have to google it cos I don't understand what you do when you do it. Off to CMA this morning. Ive always gotten on with older people, since I was young. So Im sure I will enjoy it. Im not sure about this blanket, the fabric is very stiff... I might take it with me but take something else to do just incase. Hope the buttons were ok Kuaka.. Am getting a collection of bread bags so will be starting to cut and powder some of those too.. Soo many things to do, soo little time lol Have a great Day everyone popeye333 - 2014-11-11 08:35:00
morning ladies :) Thank you popeye, it's pretty straight forward stitching - the cutting is the most nerve wracking part lol. Hope those buttons fit kuaka, if they didn't, I would make them fit somehow! Taking the car in to have a light cover repaired this morning and sounds like MrK has just made a haircut appointment for round about the same time so it's a trip into town this morning. Car won't pass a warrant with the broken cover. Then feet up sometime this afternoon I think. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-11 09:22:00
Morning ladies. Well the buttons are the right colour, they might be a bit on the small size and definitely not as posh as the ones I had intended to use, but they will suffice, and if I find they pop undone too easily, I will just have to stitch the buttonholes up a tad. popeye, what do you mean about "powdering" the bags? I must remember to keep mine and send to you. I usually just chuck them out. Very tired today, and our exciting day tomorrow has been deferred till Monday, so I'll just have to be patient a bit longer. Where are you carolev - did you go to the doc yesterday? Have a super day everyone. kuaka - 2014-11-11 10:05:00
Hi Ladies, Im back from the group and what a lovely group of welcoming ladies they were. I remember after we cut the bags up we put them in a paperbag (back then) with some powder and it helped getting any crumbs off and also made it easier to work with. It slid on the hooks or needles. Ohh the delay might be good for you to recover but I bet you were all excited and ready.. Will be worth the wait Kuaka. Apparently theres a man that comes into the group every so often with wool for sale.. so that has to be a good/bad thing lol I got two rounds of the blanket done lol popeye333 - 2014-11-11 13:07:00
morning ladies :) Sounds like you had a great time popeye and the group will be something you can do 'just for you'. Sometimes I think our men can be joined at our hips! Looks like an alpaca is moving into our paddock this weekend. Our neighbour was offered one so asked if he could use our paddock. His wife and I can't wait for the fleece and he can't wait for the alpaca sausages. Apparently they are good to eat! His wife and I have both been warned not to get too attached but I can't see that happening with either of us lol. The alpaca will be great company for the sheep as both have that flock/herd mentality. mrK has an appointment with the optician today, fingers crossed his cataracts are bad enough for him to be put on the surgery list. Going to be cold and chilly here, perfect for crafting. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-11-12 07:16:00
