NZ KG6 coil leaders I've come to a dead end. I have been researching and searching for so many years for NZ KG6 coil leaders now that it is not funny. Have they all dried up before we can publish the final results. Anyone have some good leads for overseas contacts????. Ta.

550 International Reply Coupons I must admit,I have tried to get one
but always failed. Were they used for payments abroad before the days of TT's and Paypal?I am interested to hear more about them.

I remember buying international reply coupons in the 1980's. They paid for letter rate surface mail postage from overseas back to New Zealand. Companies advertising in overseas magazines would sometimes offer to send a catalogue to readers overseas if you sent them one or two IRCs.

# 522 That one is very attractive. I haven't seen them before. Someone about mentions the '80's, yours Warm is franked late 60's - what years were they used from and to?

I have only just started collecting again since 30 years ago. Stamps helped me so much at school . I started collecting at age 9 and new virtually every country, it's capital city, currency and something about the people, religion, history etc, which was invaluable at school. Encourage your kids to collect. World stamps aren't worth much here for collectors, but they sure give lots of knowledge to kids.

re 544 etc. International reply coupons There are IRC's (International reply coupons" and also Commonwealth Reply coupons which were only for Commonwealth Nations. You could and still can exchange them for current postage stamps of your own country to pay airmail letter postage overseas. I exchanged some just 2 years ago here in Christchurch. I've had some back from the 1950's and even earlier in the 1930's when there were Imperial Reply Coupons. Some of the NZ ones show Cook's Endeavour and are certainly popular. i'm sure somebody will have done a catalogue listing of them.

Fed up! I am getting sick of traders that start their sale at $1 and then have a high reserve. All starting prices should be 90% of their reserve, if there is a reserve. That way everyone is happy. Traders are wasting bidders time. I also feel that the bidder should make reasonable bids. I know we all want a 'sale' but the trader has a right to obtain a reasonable market value in an open auction.

561

re 560 I agree with you.
I get tired of bidding on $1 start items only to find that the reserve is way above.

562

560 I think some sellers might just do that to get an idea of what their item is worth.List at $1, put an $85 reserve on it, then see what bidders will go to.Then offer it to the highest bidder as a fixed price.
Not really an auction is it.

willy_hunt - 2008-04-23 10:24:00

562 An understandable circumstance. This seems OK if the offer is at or near the highest bid, assuming that that was a reasonable bid. In one recent example, the fixed price offer was for the reserve [$85, coincidently] while the highest bid was just under $40 [with 5 active bidders] from a start of $1

Help Please Hi all... I am not a stamp collector (prefer coins...sorry) however was hoping for some help to identify a catalogue I was given. It is red in colour, hardback and labelled Heitmann's Postage Stamp Album - 8 vo edition). I am trying to date it, but there is no date. It is a global album with lots of old stamps from around the world and has Sandwich Islands (for Hawaii) and Zululand (for South Africa - I guess) and the templates for the old stamps appear to be late 19th C. Any help would be great.

Many thanks Thanks Donald. I appreciate the feedback. The folder is not in great condition, the spine has wear. The inside has a description about how to care for, and store the stamps and different gradings. On each page is a country with info such as population etc. From there, stamps have been printed where they are to be placed. There is also a R and S next to the odd stamp printing (I guess for Rare or scarce stamps). The catalogue covers about 40 countries and has international stamps on most (big collection in NZ, Australia, US sections). Lastly, do you know of anyone I can take it to for investigation. Thanks again.

Christmas Cinderella? I was wondering if any of you can tell me anything about this cinderella? http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/21/66967121_full.jpg
Is it from New Zealand, what year and was it issued at Christmas? Not very PC as it says 'please help spastics' so it must have been for that charity.

re 581 Spastics seal. This label is not of New Zealand origin. I'd guess American as everything about it looks like its from the USA.

re 583 - Phosphor on GB stamps This is a coating applied to stamps often in a vertical band (or pair of bands) on top of the stamp surface to enable machinery to read the stamp both for location on the envelope (for postmarking) and value to check if sufficient postage has been paid. Often the phosphor can be seen by holding the stamp at an oblique angle to the light so that the light will shine off the surface. The band usually shows up shinier that the non banded area. Some stamps also have all-over phosphor so you need to tell this by comparing to stamps without a phosphor coating.

Phosphor An Ultraviolet lamp is very handy in identifying these stamps and also identifying some New Zealand stamps. Regards Paul.

Sunlight Sunlight is a NO NO.It will fade your stamps over time .
A lot of the color variations you see for sale are in fact "Changlings".The stamps have been chemically altered or left in the sun to alter the appearance of the stamp. In some extreme cases a complete color can disappear. Not all of these are intentional ,ignorance is a big factor so buyer beware ,pick your sellers.

It all depends on what you are selling for $55. If you have a number of cheaper stamps most collectors may have them. If you are selling one item and it is in A1 condition then dont despair. The average for selling of stamps on Trademe is 22%. Phone cards 16% and bank notes 19%. Many dealers operating auctions would be please to sell 33% of lots. I rarely relist straight away, but often after 3 or 4 relistings the item sells.
ALSO....... many of the buyers on Trade are after a BARGAIN. I knwo of some buyers who wont pay over 20-25% Cat price.
