| Hi Twilight, all the best with your fridge, my daughter trying to find fridge too, crazy prices for what they are. coalrange1 - 2009-10-12 13:27:00 |
| Hi All. Can anyone help me? Am keen to learn patchwork quilting. Never done it before and don't use sewing machine much. A local Quilting shop has Monday night lessons starting next week $75 for 6 weeks plus approx $70 to cover material etc (bring own machine). Apparently learn a different block? each night. Then will have one night in January (included in overall cost) to learn how to put all together. Is it worth it to do this as opposed to learning from say library books and teaching yourself?. Any advice is welcome. Have to pop out and pick daughter up from exams but will be back later. Thanks juju40 - 2009-10-12 15:36:00 |
| honestly, a lot of the "proper ways" involve really expensive fabrics, feet etc. I would probibly suggest you start from a library book, with a couple of old sheets, to see if you can handle it, enjoy it.. as there is a fair bit of work involved. Before you invest in doing the class. I started by diving in head first not knowing which way was up, and using whatever fabrics i had on hand.... Oh wait thats how patchwork quilting started, and how i still tend to quilt... my quilts are a mix of proper quilting cotton, old bedsheets, old clothes etc etc liz_taylor - 2009-10-12 15:58:00 |
| hi i would agree with liz start with sheets, cheap fabric, library books, just incase you dont like it i started making clothes for my family until they told me they didnt like them then went to quilting doll and bear making twilight23 - 2009-10-12 17:10:00 |
| Thanks for that. I wondered whether I should try myself first as it does look as if it could get quite expensive. Only thing is if I do lessons then I will do it every week, if I try doing it on my own something else will alway come up and I will never get around to it. They do run lessons every 3 or 4 months so maybe I could try myself first and if I enjoyed it and wanted to continue then could take lessons sometime next year. Just thought it might be easier having someone show you than learning from a book. juju40 - 2009-10-12 17:22:00 |

| Hi Again. I listened to what you guys said and have just rung and put off doing a class till I try it out myself. I came across a site that gives pictures and instructions on the disappearing 9 patch that I've seen mentioned. It uses 5 inch charm squares. Would something like auction # 246267911 be ok for that? Thought of getting 2 packs which is $20. What do you think? Is that too hard to start off with? Thanks again, Judy juju40 - 2009-10-13 15:55:00 |
| hi all got my fridge ,it is being delievered on thursday, can wait lol ,the stupid door dosent close now lol, and its getting warmer in there even thou its still working lol, hey juju40 those squares would be great and a great price if the 9 patch doesnt work just try sewing the sqaures together and make a quilt that way, hope everyone had a good day sewing, just been for a walk in the redwood forest with grandys, eldest son nick,(grandys father) and dog cyrus, it was so lovely in there they have a whole part about 20 acers just for dogs Edited by twilight23 at 5:16 pm, Tue 13 Oct twilight23 - 2009-10-13 17:14:00 |
