I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
551

Yes, at a guess I would say it was Ashfords in Ashburton too.

Popeye - Bertie Bloomer looking good.

Have done some cross-stitch the last couple of nights.

Had a phone call from EQC tonight. They gave me a choice of getting Fletchers in or a cash pay out. Have said I'll take the cash and get my own tradesmen in. Have got 14 days if I want to change my mind. My damage is all cosmetic, i.e. foor tiles to be replaced and painting.

Pleased to see you were able to get payout pats, will be so much easier for you. Don't think we have any workmen coming today, unless the builder turns up. Plasterer is coming to do the sanding tomorrow once it's all dry, I'm not looking forward to that.
Will try and get some knitting done today while it's quiet, and I only have 2 dogs here. Our lovely rotti is at the vets all day having blood tests and xrays.

Have a lovely knitty day everyone xoxo

Oh maible, i hope rotti's blood tests and xrays are nothing too serious.
We have 3 weeks to go before EQC start on our house. Still heaps to do before they start. As i start work at 3:45pm each day and John's hours are different each day, it means the workers will be there alone of a couple/few hours each day. I'm NOT HAPPY about that but there is nothing we can do about it :(

554

Wow Maible they are dragging the chain arent they.. Hope the Rotti dog copes well with having bloods done and nothing too serious going on.

Whiskey I dont think Id be happy about the time alone either, re the builders. Do you kow people who could, well house sit for a couple of hours each day. Even if it is several different people? Leave them a yummy muffin or something as a reward.

I did Berties nose this morning and sewed and stuffed the hat brim and hair and put them on his head.
Then went and picked tomatoes, beans and blackberries Yummmmm.

Now time for a wee play on here, then Ill read before I do a bit more knitting and cook tea.

Hi ladies, you have all been busy I see.

I have just been to Spotlight (I didn't mean to lol), I grabbed some Knitting Essentials DK acrylic - well I had to at 75¢ a 75g skein! And to move with my new sock knitting - a couple of skeins of Poems DK (pure wool) @ $2.50 a 50g skein.
These were part of their 50% off already clearance prices.

Just thought it might be helpful to some....

Well done NZMU.. good buys there eh.

I have the latest spotlight catalogues but they are still in the unopened envelope. lol
Not really worth me going there unless we have a clinic appointment or something. With petrol going up it would cost me $25 to go there.

Hi armin, yes I finished my socks (I will post a pic soon), very happy with them, they are a bamboo mix from artofyarn online. I have some opal sock yarn purchased on tm some time ago and a few others from Spotlight and Deramores.

No, they weren't. I'm glad I posted my original query and chose the magic loop method. I can now make some other things that required dpns (which I do not like using).

For anyone else still not sure on socks - go for it! I'll sit with armin and the others and tell you - they need not be feared!

Good morning all - I haven't been on for a while as it has been too hot to knit and I haven't been very well either. However I have started knitting a wee hat, mittens and bootee set for a baby due in April. I can relate to maible we lived in a caravan for 2 years with 6 dogs and 6 cats, in fact after the Feb 22 quake Mr Critic and I were sharing a 13ft caravan with 7 hedgehogs (6 babies and 1 sick adult). Never thought hedgehogs could be so noisy until you share a very confined space with them LOL. Some days I actually miss our post quake lifestyle but then remember 2 very harsh winters and losing our awning due to the snow and love our new home even more. Hope to take some photos of knitting that was packed away, as I need to get it listed asap - craft funds are low!

Hi Kuaka, I hope Popeye doesn't mind me answering for her.
If you go to www.amazon.com there are 1000's of free books to download. And you can set yourself up to recieve an email every day with free downloads from www.pixelofink.com too. I have over 300 books on my kindle and 95% were free.

Yup thats where I get my books from. Last night I sat in the lounge on the lappy chosing books. And then when I went to the bedroom and turned the ereader on it downloaded the books Ive ordered.
The Kindle I have is wifi like my laptop. so I dont have to be connected with wires.
I think I have about 24 books on there. So just a beginner.
I do find having it in a cover makes it feel like your reading or holding a normal book. And I love being able to change the font size, so reading large print all the time.
I must sign up for the emails too..

I never thought I would love it soo much but I do...

methinks I will have to put kindle on my wishlist - I have a birthday coming up in the not too distant future, wonder what my chances are of getting one. Last year I got a clothes horse (well you probably know them as clothes airers). Okay, it is a stainless steel one so should last me the rest of my days, but it's not exactly a romantic gift is it.

Not romantic but hey if it saves labour Im all for it. I got my kindle from warehouse stationery for $149.. And I love it.. Just make sure you get a wifi one, if you have a wifi modem for the internet. It makes thigns soo easy. Otherwise I think you have to use a usb cord to the coputer, not that thats a problem but hey we like not to be tied to places.

I bought my kindle here on trademe last year (end of march) and got the cover as well. All up for $260, that included an Eco friendly leather cover. By Eco friendly i mean the process of tanning the leather is Eco friendly. Now days you can pick up a kindle WITH cover for under $200. gadgetimports is who i got mine from.

oooohhhh Kindle, my other favourite thing. I have had mine for over 2 years now - so wouldn't be without it!
I get my books all over the net - use calibre with a little tweak to change epub to mobi format if I find a better deal at Kobo or Books on Board.

thecritic, what fond memories you have of such a difficult time. I don't know if I would have the strength!
The hedgehogs being noisy - I had no idea until a year or two ago... not sure if they were fighting or mating but the words squeal like a stuck pig came to mind lol.

Baby hoglets squeak when they are hungry or fightened - they also make a purring sound when they are content (especially if feeding with a dropper). Adult hedgies talk (which is what Kennedy did when we were in the caravan) he would chatter away to himself all night. I wish I had recorded it as it sounded so sweet.

Morning All..

I had a bad day yesterday. Had a horrific headache and slept most of the day. hich is very rare for me. Its better today just a normal headache now.

Needless to say I havent knitted at all.

Hello everyone, I'm not getting much computer time at the moment. Have the painters here this week and have been outside in the tent/dog compound most of the day.
http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/255412860.jpg

I am finally getting through some knitting/crochet though which is nice. The painters hope to be finished by the end of the week and we're just waiting on carpet layer to confirm when he can do the lounge carpet, then we can arrange for the furniture to come back. Can't wait.

Daughter's dog is still limping and will need another op, but daughter is not sure she wants to put him through another one with long term recovery when he's already been on very limited mobility for 7 months. He also has arthritis in his hips as well as the cruciate repair failing again, so she has some thinking to do over the next few days. Either way it will be hard, I've already been almost housebound for the 7 months, but will nurse him through another recovery if necessary. He's such a beautiful dog, it makes me sad to see him limping again, but he's not in pain - has good pain meds.
Hope the last of your headache goes soon popeye.
Take care all, have a lovely day xoxo

Sorry to hear about daughter's dog - arthritic hips are just no fun at all - from one who is heading towards a hip replacement at some stage in the future.
Been back with the knitting needles but tried 2 different patterns for a baby's cardy and made a mess both times - tried to be clever and adapt a pattern which just didn't work - so changed to another project for a while.
Have tried to put up a photo but can't seem to get it onto the message board - can download onto TM but not the next step will keep trying.

popeye - hope your headache has gone by now.

I am cross-stitching at the moment. May do some knitting next week all going well. Want to knit some fingerless mittens for four of my great-nieces.

Carol (Kuaka) don't get me started on kindles. I just LOVE mine, Ive had it for a couple of years, it goes everywhere with me. I have heaps of books on it, and another great thing is the number of knitting patterns I have on it. Any that I download from ravelry or buy offvthe internet, I email to my kindle. Same with the grand kids measurements. When I go away for the weekend, I can take my kindle, and my knitting, and have books to read and my patterns all in one little thin gadget. I don't like reading proper books now, I always found it difficult to hold a book open and read while I was knitting, but now my kindle sits on the arm of the chair, and I one quick tap of the button and the page is turned for me. Its a shame that the knitting pattern pictures are black and white, but I can live with that, I also have the kindle app on my tablet, and it is syncronised to my kindle so I can work from either, the patterns look great in colour on that, but I'd rather read on my kindle. Phew thats a long post.

Went to Spotlight on Monday and found in their sale some Vera Moda Peru wool. Got what they had and started knitting it up, it is lovely and knits very quickly. Could not believe I got this for $2.00 per 50gm ball, bargain of the week. Ended up spending $198.00 there as they also had 30% off fabric if you took the whole roll. A great mornings shopping.

Well it looks as though I will have to put a kindle on my wish list along with a new laptop to replace my geriatric desktop. I've got the money for the laptop, just can't decide what I actually want (and how I transfer the stuff from the old computer to the new one is bothering me a bit so if any of you friendly crafty ladies know how I do that, I'd be grateful if you could share it with me)

Good morning all, I don't have a kindle but I do have a no brand e-reader that a lovely friend sent me after her partner bought her a kindle. I haven't tried patterns on it but will give it a go later - would be so good if it works.
More crochet for me again today, got a lot done yesterday but have to undo some as I'm experimenting with resizing a pattern and it hasn't quite worked out - think I have it sussed now though.
Smallest dog goes to the groomer today so it will be a lot quieter here, he may be the smallest but he is also the noisiest.
Daughter has made a decision about her rottweiler, sadly he will be euthanased on Monday, rather than put him through yet another op. Such an awful decision for her, but I think it's the right thing for the poor dog. We will miss him so much, he's been living with us for 8 months since his first op and he is such a sweet cuddly boy. Lots of tears here this week (and next).
Repair work should be all finished tomorrow (if things go according to plan). I'm really pleased with the interior that has been done and looking forward to seeing the exterior paint going on today.
Have a good day everyone xo

Morning all.. Ohh maible soo sad re the rottie boy going for his forever sleep but I would do exactly the same. We had a foxy that was either kicked or as the vet thought had her lags ripped open at the hips , and her left hip wouldnt go in and stay in , in the socket. Had it strapped all the time. She was always such a active girl and loved jumping high. We couldnt stand to see her going through more pain so had her put to sleep.
I was angry fo so long cos I couldnt understand why anyone would do that to an animal. And they had to come on our property to do it.

Pleased the house is coming along in leaps and bounds.

I may manage to knit today the head is clearing thank goodness.

Have a good day all

Always very sad when you have to say goodbye to a loved pet. We had to have our old cat euthanased over a year ago and I swore I wouldn't get another, and all these beautiful kittens kept coming up on trademe "free to good home" and I refused to get one. Then last winter a beautiful tortoiseshell cat adopted us. Just wandered into the garden and made itself at home. It's a long story, but it moved up from Auckland with it's owners who kept it locked indoors too long to get used to the new house, and the first time they opened the door to let it explore it's new garden, it took off like a rocket and never went back. We eventually found out where it came from and they took her back and within minutes she was back at our place, so they said to keep her. She's gorgeous.

Houston we have a problem.

Well we did yesterday. The Internet went down just after 1pm.. Some idiot fool cut the Cable AGAIN.... took out three exchanges. At least this time I could txt. but couldnt ring out of town, not even on the mobiles. So couldnt ring telecom etc.

So I did get some sewing and knitting done. The fingers have thanked me for it and feel much better this morning.

Have a fab day all

How annoying about the cable problem popeye, glad you're back with us now and that your fingers a feeling better :)
I got quite a bit of crochet done yesterday and managed to transfer some patterns to my e-reader, so am very happy.
How much things can change in a day though.... just as I was trying to get used to the idea of losing daughter's lovely rotti, she had a very interesting phone call from the vet. The vet who did the first two ops on the dog's knee is away at the moment so we have been seeing a new vet at the clinic. She is lovely and had come up with ideas for rehab before daughter decided she couldn't put the dog through another op.
Anyway, this amazing vet has offered to operate using a different technique and will do it at no charge - daughter will only have to pay for post op meds and the vet is arranging physio at a discounted rate also. Daughter was so stunned she couldn't answer straight away, but has now decided to go ahead and the op will be on Monday (before the first vet comes back).
We're so blown away by this offer - and hoping that it works this time. Such an amazing thing to happen, and so kind of the vet to even think of it.
So it will be a happier weekend for us, as I hope it will be for everyone, take care xoxoxo

My friend has been and done the cleaning and I have a list of stuff to tell friends about that is fo sale as they are moving and downsizing. So its all busy busy lol..

No knitting for me today unfortunately, 11 of thefamily for tea! Hopefully back to it tomorrow, although I do hope it goes better than yesterday. Done the back of a bolero for granddaughter no problem, tried a front yesterday.....well!.....had to keep undoing it. Using eyelash yarn from Deramores (wonderful place) and I don't read the pattern properly or forget what I'm meant to be doing and as the stitches are hard to see turns out easier to undo. Took hours to do a front for a 2 year old! Anyone else have 'bad' days with the knitting?
