crafts is my pasion

#Post

Good morning ladies ... Have just had a quick read of the whole thread ... I know I posted in the early days and then got sidetracked with (you've guessed it) some crafts LOL..... I made three quilts before Christmas plus two other quilt tops (not finished yet). I am now working on covering some boxes for next Christmas. I am using photocopy boxes and fabric and am still working out the process. These boxes are for my grandchildren as I give them each a new Christmas decoration every year and now they need somewhere to store them. I have 11 grandchildren at present but another is due this week and there will be another in April. And I don't think they have finished yet .. there will be more.

What a neat idea for your grandchildren barbrose I have quilting books, materials and all the necessary gear but until the the rest of my cottage is finished I do not have the space to unpack it. Does not stop me buying more wool though.ha ha I have it stuffed every where in the bedroom. No room for a man in there. ha ha. Unless he is my 4 year old grandson because he is cute.

Morning grizzly My son is a Wing Commander in the Airforce on a 3 year combined Forces posting in Sydney. They call him Beagles. When he was about 3 he made up his mind he was going into the Airforce and at 17 off he went. His older brother used to call him Beagles because of his big ears and so does everyone else. It just fits ha ha.

Love this rain My garden was so dry. Making plum jam again. Going to pop up to op shop after this lot. Need more jars. Have already begged, borrowed or snaffled family jars. Kids need to save more jars ha ha. Trouble is they all buy things in plastic containers which they save for me to put my craft stuff in. All my mosaic tiles are in plastic cat food containers. On the farm I had boxes lining the garage wall. Sigh. I miss all that chaos.

Good grief!!!! I have my new glasses and this is definitely going to be harder than expected. Perfect for craft and looking up at tv but unfortunately there is more than that to do! Walking is the worst. I didn't realise how much you check the floor in front of you and of course thats blurry again now 'cos it's the lower part of the glasses. I feel travel sick just walking through the house!!!! Somebody tell me it gets better, please.

Craft things to do.... I have done all of these, and can give instructions if necessary...Make Xmas card holders quilted banner with ribbon to peg the cards onto....Xmas advent calendar, felt tree on coloured hessian, embroider felt "what nots and baubles", with pockets below, pick out a bauble each day and hang it on the tree....make soap! this is a goody, and I love it but not for everyone as can be messy....make massage oil....make flavoured oils for cooking...make quilts for cots and beds...make art quilts....sew seed holders for a garden shed, you hang it on the back of the door or on a hook, seed packets go into pockets....

Hi girls Gee grizzly I fished out my progressives and checked them out and I thought. No way!!!! That's why I put them in the drawer except for sitting and doing things. I did not Persevere. But my mate has them and she said it takes time to adjust and she loves hers. Wears them all the time. Son from Aussi, wife and kids just poppped in. Flew over for a funeral.

Hi zoe Well this arvo I am going to sit on my butt and do some knitting and watch sky. Yay!! Aren't there some neat ideas. Made herbal oils on the farm but I need to grow a lot more herbs here. Rain is feeding the plants nicely.

Hi grizzly, wait till you vacuum the floor with them on. I could not work out all how come the floor was uneven and I have never noticed it before. Perserve with them cause they are the greatest thing. By the way. the uneven floor did go away.

Makereal, I know how you felt The second to last time my Whangarei kids left me I was the same, the poor g/kids looked so sad. I could not help it. I rang them when they got home to reassure them I was ok.

Thank you makerealbany and smartgirl you are giving me hope, indeed. Had to be passenger in car at work this afternoon. Felt so ill after, my eyes just couldn't keep up, not so bad when I'm driving thank goodness. Many many thanks Zoe for starting this thread. There is a lot of support (& laughs) to be had here. Wonder if I can use this as an excuse not to vacuum?!

That is also why we are so creative. We express our inner selves in the things we do and the things we create. Plus we are Philosophers. I am so bright tonight. Ha ha.

I am on a roll! A third of the way up the second front of my aran cardy already. I am amazed it has knitted up so fast. I love doing the pattern, keeps it from getting so boring. I plan to do a geurnsey next which is plainer unfortunately.

Wow hot as At the gym even with the airconditioning I had to take it easy on the resting mats between the machines. The old pulse was rising. ha ha. That will teach me to stay up until 1-30 but cannot sleep if I am hot. Heaps of tomatoes are ripe in daughters garden so will make tomato relish. Need more jars. Have to go the op shop again. Any excuse Lol. Have a really neat day girls and don't sweat it to much.

Another useful aid is a large magnifying glass When Dad died I was sorting through things with my sisters and came across his old M glass. He used it to read the paper in his last year. I after, consensual agreement of course and being the eldest got to keep it. I use it for all sorts of things. While I was waiting for new glasses used it to thread the sewing needle. Fab tool.

Making spicy plum sauce It is an recipe of my gran's. Was going through the old books thought I would try it. Also got spicy plum crumble for desert. Another experiment ha ha. Got bitten by mossies night before last and bites are all swollen and itchy. Was up in the night 3 times to put allergy cream on. Sigh. Looks as bad as it feels. Was talking to the neighbour over the fence in the dark. She was bitten as well. Started a cotton top for myself in an off white. Feels strange knitting cotton. Sauce takes 3 hours so won't be done until 9-15 so will knit until then ha.

thread crasher - sorry girls, I haven't read the whole thread, but when grizly mentioned the purple patch craft co op I was intrigued to find out how it works? I dabble in craft, making jewellery and would love to get into scrapbooking, but I have a toddler so it's difficult to find the time. At the moment I'm making a shawl with the cheap version of ostrich wool.

These messages are doing their ghostly thing again Maybe we have a little gremlin in our thread girls. Hi lizzie. I have made a few shawls with that wool. Is it Jazz?. Much cheaper than Ostrich about 1-49 a ball or 89 cents on special at spotlight. Forgot to mention girls had to catch a parrot for my neighbour. The cat opened the cage. Ugh. Poor bird was locked in the garage. I caught it with a towel and it is safe again in it's big cage.

Just finished the Plum Sauce No wonder I gave up making sauce it takes ages to strain and bottle. Jam making and preserving fruit is much easier and quicker too. Tastes really yummy though.

makereal, what cant you do. what pattern do you use for you shawls. I would love to make one.

lizzie2005 I see you are in Christchurch, too! Purple Patch is a retail outlet for local crafts people. You pay $20 annual membership and your items are accepted for sale after a quality check by Committee. Shop takes 30% of the price you sell an item for but this can be decreased if you can offer some voluntary time to work in the shop. Purple Patch donates to worthwhile cause at the end of each financial year.

Hi everyone else, Being back at work is hard going after a month off plus struggling a bit with these glasses still.
AND the weather hasn't been that great this week either! It better fine up for the weekend so I can do some therapeutic gardening.

579

Hi smartgirl Will put easy pattern on when I get home. Just done Daughters housework, went to the gym, washed the car, still got one load of washing to do and then I have to go home to Albany. Granddaughter and I promised to help neighbour clean up for 3 year old daughter's party tomorrow. Then we have to cook some party cupcakes. Neighbour has 3 little ones and they are a handfull but she is a bubbly, vivacious person and so positive. Hubby is really nice too. We have some neat neighbours.

580

Hi grizzly I will try and zap you some nice weather for your therapeutic gardening on weekend. Not to hot!!!!! T expects 50 people including babies of all ages at her daughters party so think of me in the midst of all the noise whilst you are gardening. Sigh!

makerealbany - 2008-01-25 11:40:00
581

50 people at a party for a 3 year old is rather extreme. I'll stick to my weeds any day, thank you. Having said that we have 3 family birthdays coming up in the same week in March then daughter-in-law's 21st 2 weeks after that!!!We've done all the present shopping and put them on layby so they aren't stored here (nosey children & grandchildren visit regularly) but I am doing all the birthday cakes and I haven't heard what's happening for the 21st.

Hi grizzly Baked for the party yesterday and this morning. Sent all the family down and I am having some quiet time. It does not appear that everyone turned up thank heavens. For some reason I just needed me time. Too hot to be in the garden. I feel utterly drained. Think I need a few days quietly fishing in the middle of nowhere. Other neighbours went off fishing this morning. Taking me next time.It does get a bit hectic when you have to do all the baking, for the parties, doesn't it?

Hi Zoe, lovely to meet you the other day. That little cradle is so cute. I have just the perfect fabric to make sheets and blankes with.
makereal do you ever stop. you are a machine. i got up early to spray the weeds with my new sprayer as my old one was had it. guess what, this one wont hold pressure, so back to bunnings. i hate that.

Hi smartgirl This is for an Ostrich wrap but I have also knitted it in the Jazz from spotlight for about 1.49 a ball or 85c on special. Using 15.00 needles, cast on 40 sts. Knit in garter st. using 4 balls. Cast off loosely. Really easy to do. When finished looks like a long scarf. I have a white one that I wear double. Hold it out and it will drop to be used as a shawl or wrap. Did My sisters some in black. They love them. Quick pressie. Lucky you meeting Zoe. I go down to Hamilton at times would love to have a cuppa.

587

No darn it I will get new mum to show me when she has the time. She is shopping and I am babysitting newest baby who has the whole family tied around her little finger and she is only 3 weeks old . Sigh. I would luv to have a cuppa with all of you. ha ha. Still haven't received that wool from the Animal Refuge yet, THEY MUST BE REALLY BUSY. Ah well I will have to email them again.

I bought wool off a trader nearly 2 weeks ago and it has gone missing in the post. She is sooooo reluctant to follow up through NZ Post too. What a pain as I knew exactly what I was going to use it for.

grizzly4 - 2008-01-27 17:07:00
589

grizzly, the same thing happened to me with some wool, but my trader was so wonderful. she organised a refund through nz post and on notification from them that it had been approved she refunded me the money. But I am having trouble with a reluctant trader at the moment

smartgirl - 2008-01-27 18:05:00
590

Makes you wonder girls I had a bit of flack from a trader who demanded proof of bank payment and then when I provided it, heard nothing from her. Wool finally arrived though so that was good. Only had one parcel go missing so far. Touch wood.

And another week begins.... Have to cancel a client this afternoon (and I hate doing that) but it's the only time the optometrist has available to recheck these glasses. The only time I enjoy wearing them is the evenings. Still really struggling with them and I was so looking forward to getting them. Supermarkets are dreadful when you walk down the isles, it feels like everything is rushing past you and it's hard finding things on the shelves etc. My craft work is so clear to see though, really enjoying that.

Hi girls It is a Public Holiday here today. We planted out some plants last night and it was so cool then but now it is really hot again. Got bitten again sigh when will I learn!!!! Have to go with S to pick up a door for his shed and other bits and pieces. Daughter not at work because of holiday so it is a free day for me . Yay.

evening ladies, what a beautiful day, they said on the news that it was the best summer in a decade and I agree. My daughter from Whangarei called in on their way home for a couple of days off. They brought a business in the middle of last year so it has been head down and bum up for them. My big g/son, who went back to Aus on the 8th, couldn't settle and has come back to NZ. He is going to live with Whangarei daughter as part of her family, the 3 kids all get on very well and have all been very, very close when they all lived here in Hamilton. I feel so happy for him as I have been very worried about him. It is such a trying time for these teens these days. I am going up in a couple of weeks as it will be his 16th birthday.

smartgirl - 2008-01-28 18:44:00

had to add my two cents about the glasses I have been wearing progressives for about eight years now, tried the other bifocals but didn't like them. I had the same trouble with wavy floors and feeling sick but when I nearly hit a car I went back to the optometrists. I now have the part that is the bifocal lower than normal, as the lenses change right along the eyeline. I have it a bit lower than that, and have had no trouble. The optometrist was a bit reluctant as it doesn't give you a very big piece for the bifoacl part but I wear them happily now, and in fact have just had new ones.Mind you, if I want to look at something really close I take my glasses off and close one eye!!!

claremm - 2008-01-28 19:09:00
595

Much happier now! Apparently one leg on my glasses needed adjusting. They were actually sitting slightly twisted which meant I wasn't actually able to see out of one lens correctly.

grizzly4 - 2008-01-29 07:35:00
596

Off to my daughter's scan at 8.30. Then off to do some baby shopping before going to work at lunch time!
Blue or pink that is the question for today!!!!

grizzly, how exciting. There is nothing than a new baby. I got 3 g/kids in 18 months. My first 3 were very spread out so I was able to give them lots of time, but when the next 3 came along so quickly I did not know wether I was coming or going. Their ages are now, Nearly 16,11,7,2,15 months, 6months.

Gee haven't heard a peep from that trader Won't answer my emails so will have to try and jump on another listing if they have one. M R is having good days and bad days smartgirl you know the drill. Well that is little uns for you. So glad your grandson is home again. Was pleased when my 19 year old grandson came back from Aussi to live.
