Thanks - will look further this evening

the placement of the TE under the NZ suggests there may be letters before the "TE" as a thought

At a guess "Waitekauri"

Googling "waitekauri postmark" brings up references to Class A NZ postmarks for this Thames township in 1898

"Waitekauri, (TH), Opened 15/11/1876, Closed 31/03/1946, Postmark type A Class"

Thanks, tmg, that sounds like an explanation and makes sense, which is probably why i couldn't find it on google. Plus I learnt how to put photos up!!

dunno, I tried a few health ones (1950s) and they bombed...
probably best to look into expired listings...

eta, and I really dont know much at all about these kinds of listings, but having had a look at some of your listings, for what its worth I would think $1 might be risky, and you may well only end up with that...

I like these advertising 'messages' in this thread, if this is route to go tally-ho - we all may have more tradesl

Ive got an interesting question here:

Do postage stamps expire?
I have a few traders ive dealt with that must either like the tradition of using stamps, or simply are stamp collectors, and will send parcels to me in the post with stamps, which is kind of cool to see these days.
Anyway, I received a parcel recently that the seller had used old NZ postage stamps that would have dated to the 70's, is this rather common on TM?
I guess i have answered my question, as the stamps obviously were accepted at the post office, just thought it was quite unusual to get a parcel with them! lol

yes its interesting how far you can push the non-advertising advert on here...guilty as charged, but it works. Major auctions seem to get a few more views and watchers after a post relating to them.....Was also wondering how well FDC's sell....... LOL

No they don't expire so you can use any decimal stamps issued by New Zealand for postage. The only exceptions are Government life stamps.

Many astute traders find you can purchase unused decimal postage stamp[s for under face value and thus save a lot of money on postal charges. Some Postal agencies will try to tell you that you can't use stamps on parcels but they only say this (It is a lie) because they make no commission on parcels with stamps already affixed. What they need to do is attach a no value tracking label.

most aren't worth much and a few are worth a small fortune. To find out which are which you need at least to buy a stamp catalogue. Its not a simple yes or no answer. its like asking are stones worth much! Well most aren't but precious stones can be worth millions.

Thanks kiwistephen might look them up before I advertise them have had the same problem with my coins didn't know nothing about them so just ended up advertising a majority of them for a dollar so might actually look FDc up first before hand cheers for the advice

Hey thats interesting to know!
Its kinda cool to have a parcel arrive with stamps from the 70's, i thought it was a long lost item in the post that finally arrived! lol

As a general rule if a FDC has a Philatelic bureau first day of issue postmark then it will be common and hence not of much value.

Yip, aware of that...it was a poor attempt at advertising LOL.....it is interesting though, I think FDC's have the biggest diff between Cat value and resale value.....Just a gut feel, have not done analysis on it.....Alternative post seems to probably get the best return in the lower values.......

Sorry, but they would not have been used to print the stamps, because the perforations are also printed - hence my question. The printing plates only are for the design. The blocks would almost certainly have been used to print something like a newspaper article, or a catalogue.

Wow. 300 stamp albums on offer means a whole lot of choice. i'll bet there are some bargains amongst those. I guess the early birds will be busy if they have 300 albums to choose from. Now 300 albums at 5 minutes each, that would take 25 hours to look thru. Working at 1 minute each to look thru each album it would take 5 hours and the stamp fair only lasts 3 hours. i think some quick decisions will have to be made.

So now we know - that explains the brass part, which seemed to be too extravagant for a printer's block.

I imagine the 300 albums include a lot of NZ post annual collection albums and issues booklets, so wouldn't take too long.......Not what I call an album, but hey......or a collection either.....

Funny when you look up auctions under "colelction" what you find....mind you, I list single items in there as the buyers who search that catergory seem to be mroe and a different type to when you list items in their correct location......also hard to know where to put something that should be under two catergories.....

anyone now what the story is with a couple of covers I have for 1c mineral, but on cancelled first day covers. There is no other stamps on them and they appear to have been genuinely through the post. One has a date stamp on it for 2 Apr 1987. This makes no sense to me, its years after the issue and 1c postage was long gone. I have a second cover, with no post date visible, but is clearly hand written again as a FDC for a 1c mineral.......I would upload pic, but dont know how.

. Easy answer. 1 April 1987 was NZ Post Vesting Day. To celebrate, they allowed hand addressed envelopes to be posted for 1 cent. This one got through a day late. A lot were posted on the 1st.

Thanks, I wondered what the wording was on one of them and it is now obviously "vesting".

sometimes in the past there were friendly post shops, agencies, etc that would allow people to prepare their own first day covers and cancel them for you regardless of the value of the stamps you placed on them---nowdays you generally have to have sufficient postage on and allow the envelope/s to go through the normal delivery process

I think Dunedin hit it, as one was machine cancelled, even with the rough ink marks on the back of it. One is nicely written up as "vesting day", which I now know, had no idea the word was "vesting" until Dunedin wrote there bit. The other is a hand created FDc with a very basic ink stamp on the front saying "First Day Cover". I was confused as the dates were so far from the issue dates of the stamps themselevs, but problem solved now. Also didn't knwo there was a word such as Vesting until reading this....that what you get from soemone who got 18% in his 7th form mock exam for english :)

Hi Can anyone point me to a list of the Face Values of Annual Stamp Packs ? I am thinking of buying some for postage but would like to have an informed opinion of how much to pay. Thanks Peter

Hi,

Not sure of a definitive list. Couple of ideas, NZ posts website, or stamp catalouges should give a rough guide. I know when I have sold on here I only get between 50-75% of face value generally for MUH modern stamps. There is normally an auction or three going for postage use stamps in bulk at a discounted rate. I know some buyers who will atleast bid the 50%. If you have the patience also look at NZ decimel mint category, you might find even better bargans for use as psotage than the annual books. It seems a funnny situation that books sold at a premium, get less than face value on resale.......but that the market.

oh in additon Miniature sheets seem to often sell below postage value too.....so might be worth looking in there as well.
