Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.
No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

Hi Ben, would have thought it would have weighed between 25 to 30gm at that size, but at reaching only $800 and with an estimate of $500 it must weigh a lot less.Would be great to find that correct weight.

Thanks heaps, I did not end up with it so unable to weigh.

According to this trader the ANZAC 50cent coins are sold out or is that just his nearest post office as I know the security company supplying the post shops still have stock around the country.

The NZ Post website still has them for sale - although they don't seem to have the individual loose coins anymore.

It seems crazy a roll is selling for $30 on trademe when you can still get them from nzpost for $10

Unfortunately the stock I source does not list itself so often up all hours of the night to get it on. Looks like you are also an early bird. I wonder if this medal is on the way back to NZ. From memory it sold to an internet bidder.

I dont know how you keep up with all the stuff you list lol. Poop Miriam having to post it hehe.

I wish I was not up so early. Only up at this time with my 2nd daughter she has been in and out of hospital the last 5 weeks now and looks like she will be back in before the end of the weekend.

Would be nice to find out how much the gold medal weighed for the future but with so few made it may take a while.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Saw an auction on here for one of the 0.50 cent coins and it hit $11.

Funny the number of people out there who think these ANZAC coins will be valuable in future. There's a million of them, that's quite a few compared to the 1935 threepence or Waitangi crown.

I had a similar view to you, but then I was reminded by a Dealer that it will be overseas tourists, and not necessarily collectors that will take these out of the system because it is a very attractive coin, and not expensive, thus a great gift to give out to their family and friends when they get home. Thus the million coins will be absorbed quickly. I think we can compare this issue to the 1940 Centennial issue more than the scarcer 1935 3d and crown. Agreed that the mintage of the 2015 Anzac 50c coin is a million, but it will be interesting to see how many of these coins do actually stay in circulation, six months to one year will reveal what quantities are present. Also New Zealanders in general may take small batches out for their family members, they are cheap enough to do so without breaking the bank. I can also see Numismatic Dealers taking significant numbers of these coins to overseas trade fairs for a good return, eg 600 to 1000%+ profit, it will certainly assist in paying for air flights and trade tables! I know that Dealers never got anywhere near the quantities they requested and will be wishing to replenish their stocks. So the Anzac coin will probably settle down eventually to $3 - $10 a piece, and then of course the varieties in that issue will be priced significantly more. What makes this coin more desirable for numismatic collectors, especially European collectors, is that it is a totally new design and a must for their collection, and because of that, it will be sought after more readily than general standard issues.

There is another way to look at these however. Maximum 50,000 rolls but this will already be reduced a lot with people opening them to look at the coins or people like me searching them for errors so the full rolls could become a rather interesting collectors item.

I will have to wait and see if my other orders of over 350 rolls turn up or not I suspect they wont at the moment. If they do turn up my eyes will be funny for a month while I sort through them before my wife sees the credit card bill haha.

Errors on them will be small the video on the RBNZ website shows how they were made and checked by taking photos of every 3 coins produced this will stop any really cool errors being found like printing on the wrong side etc still you never know I guess.

That sounds about right. I guess that fits with my original point, these coins will never be worth a lot (even if they are desirable) as there are plenty for the market. They'll be like the uncirculated dollars from the 1970s/80s - worth something, but don't expect hundreds of dollars.

Even the proof coin has a mintage of 10,000, which isn't far off the proof $1 coins from the 1980s in terms of numbers.

None of this has stopped me ordering my own! But that's just because I like coins, not because I expect them to become highly valuable.

869244082 How can these types of replica coins be of any help to a collector of real coins - made to look worn with no indication from the photos that they are not real .
Next seller can just say they didn't know they were not real.

People will probably start shying away from scarcer dates of anything unless they're certified ... until the Chinese start copying slabs too.

One of the usual suspects from auckland is selling Russian coin replicas dated in the 1990's surely the images of the design are a copyright infringement for trademe to remove.

Wonder if it would be any use contacting some of the various Embassy's to see if they will put an official complaint into Trademe? Or has this already been tried?

I emailed the mint directly regarding copies of the silver eagles once, never heard anything back. Doesn't stop anyone emailing them again though.

I have had responses from the Canadian and Australian mints / reserve banks in the past after reporting them. All responses were the same the Australian reserve bank and mints told me to contact the Australian federal police and the Canadian mint told me to contact the Royal Canadian Mounted police

Not that I am aware of the US coins would be a good start they have good policies in the us to protect the hobby but I need to re read the hobby protection act as it has been awhile. Wish we had something similar in NZ

Having lots of rules in place is no help if there's no enforcement of them, whether from TM or the governments of the countries involved. Maybe going via an embassy/consulate on this end is a better approach.....
