We've had a shower this morning, but it's not raining at the moment, not sunny either, and it's a bit colder than the last couple of mornings. Not much point complaining about the weather as nobody does anything about it.

I'll have to go to town this morning to check the mail as Mr K is expecting a belated Fathers day present from one of his daughters.

My afternoon out today, so won't be any knitting done unless I do it this morning or tonight. The forecast today is for rain I believe so I'm quite pleased that I put clean sheets and duvet covers on the bed yesterday and did 3 loads of washing and got it all dry and folded. Now I have a heap waiting to be ironed. Never mind, at least it's clean. I hate having dirty washing waiting to be done.

carolev - why not do another blanket or do some squares for Su's blanket project. Hope all goes well at the nurse, and the car repairs aren't serious.

kiwimade, maybe you should invest in a cat - it would soon deal with your mouse problem.

we tried a cat kuaka but our Jack Russell just would not leave her alone - he thought she was his own personal squeaky toy. We tried everything, from growling him, squirting with a water pistol, usual training techniques, but nothing worked. I think because he had caught, killed and eaten wild rabbits he thought the cat was fair game. We just could not trust him anywhere near her. For Maggie's safety, she ended up living with our daughter and her family - so we still get to see and cuddle her. And I will continue to set traps (away from a nosey JR's nose and paws!). It certainly isn't through lack of trying that he hasn't caught a mouse lol, omg it's chaos when the chase is on!

I can imagine kiwimade. Sounds like you cat was a bit of a softie, you needed one a bit more feisty to stick up for itself. At one stage we had a kitten and a fully grown Doberman-German Shepherd cross, the dog was terrified of the kitten 'cos the kitten swiped the dog across the nose the first time they met and she drew blood. They ended up good mates but the dog was always very wary of the cat.

The last mouse that our little cat brought in still alive made a dash across the dining room floor and wedged itself between the table leg and one of the chair legs. As I yanked it out by it's tail, I heard a click like something breaking or dislocating, but I gently tossed it out into the bush while puss scampered round the house trying to find it.

Knit and natter today, looks like the weather will be okay, so we should get a walk in afterwards. Didn't have one yesterday as Mr K didn't feel so good.

Our Millie cat got passed our two foxies to live with us... We figured since she got passed them she had the strength to stand her ground.. She used to chase them both all the time.
Bob used to bring mice in, thankfully he either killed them if we didn't know in time, or Id grab it and put it back outside.

Looks like a chitty day here, MrP in a grump lol..

morning ladies :) it is cold in the Waikato isn't it carole, and we've got the fog too :S. Really thick so heaven knows when it will lift.

I bought a big frame to put photos in for Maddy's birthday next week, dropped the frame and broke the glass so today I'll take it in to the glass people and get a new piece. Will sort through the photos and we can make some choices to fill it when we get it back. Am also going through recipe books to find a birthday cake I can bake and do a practice run lol. Am hopeless at baking cakes!

Then I can do some crafting of some sort. The Fluffy One goes home today, we weren't expecting her this week but oh well, she just slots in :)

Morning all'
Nice day here, don't like the thought of fog in the Waikato as will be driving to Auckland airport from Hamilton very early am on Monday morning so hope you get rid of all the fog well before then. Last year had a similar early start left Hamilton about 2am and fog all the way so got behind a big truck and followed his lights,

Have had a busy week with trip to Wellington to look after 3 little ones for 3 days while mother trained people for the elections and dad did shift work. All lovely but rather tiring. Now getting organised as off to Tonga on Monday.

Managed to get some more naked sock wool from Skeinz - got 5 lots to keep me going have dyed one lot so have some to take with me to Tonga along with a couple of lots I have already prepared. Only going for a week this time so that should keep me occupied while away.

I'm like you Kiwimade don't like baking cakes, have a couple of slices that turn out ok so tend to do those when I really have to make something but dodge it if possible. So saying for some odd reason I really like making Christmas cakes and make several each year as presents - I guess that is something I will have to get on with soon enough!

Ohh I love baking... Cant stand too long to do heaps now tho. And if I bake we have to eat it so I don't do a lot.
Christmas baking is different tho. MrP helps me make the Christmas cakes. And if I do say so myself I make the yummiest fruit mince pies. I have my butter sorted for Christmas, just have to start getting fruit lol.

Went into the oppy this morning. Got 3 balls of variegated acrylics. But also got this big bag of cottons, which is not something I normally buy but after seeing those cool crochet buttons Im going to give it a whirl.
My SIL would be green with envy at the bagfull I got for $6 lol..

Went and did my Mammogram, and off to the med centre in an hour for register for this new scheme they have for people with multiple problems.. Means I will get 4 free nurses visits a year.

Tis cooling here, but I wont put any more layers on cos the med centre will be hot as.

Gosh Maddy is nearly one already.. where has the time gone?

Achy today as my nurses appointment was upstairs. I used the lift but then they had a fire drill. So had to use stairs.
A quiet day today. Dishes and floors and knitting. Might lay a blanket out. But I want this hoody done. Not really enjoying it now lol. Its pure wool but Not too soft. Will wash it when finished.

morning :) yep popeye, can't believe how fast the last twelve months have gone! Baked a lemon poppyseed cake and it is yummmm so will make it again for THE cake lol.

Wow did we have a thunder and lightening storm or what around 3.00am! The rain was so hard I thought the windows were going to break. Just amazing. Has just finished (for now) raining.

So I suspect today will be an inside day :P... perfect for getting the needles out after I've done housework. The garden is still calling me but it's soggy out there and will have to wait.

Oh dear about the fire drill popeye, necessary but not always timely!

Wonder what Scotland's vote will be. Interesting Scottish people around the world can't vote. Speaking of voting, I'll vote today when in town, will save me going out tomorrow.

morning ladies, well half the people I've spoken to have voted already, but we always vote on election day, and I haven't missed voting ever since I first became eligible way back in the dark ages, when I lived in the UK. Think I only voted once there, pretty sure you had to be 21 in those days. Maybe I voted twice in the UK, can't remember.

If we had thunder and lightning, then I slept through it. I was so tired yesterday after having hardly any sleep the night before, I had a nap yesterday afternoon, and slept for well over an hour, despite having a builder here putting up a handrail down the staircase, which is right alongside the bedroom. Went to bed at 9 last night and out like a light, telling myself that if I woke early I would take half a sleeping pill. Woke at 12, 2 and 5 and each time I just turned over and went back to sleep, and Mr K brought me a cuppa at 7.30. Hopefully I feel better today.

I've got two blankets on the go and a little baby top and I'm not really enjoying any of them, I'm itching to do a granny square blanket for us, I've got a pattern, it's a bit different to just squares, but I'd like to do it in corriedale wool from Utiku and it works out expensive, as the wool is $16 for a 200gm ball, but the pattern says to use acrylic 100gm and it takes 22 balls. I'll have to work out the difference in yardage, and I can't seem to get my head around it. I'm wondering if it would make much difference if I ordered one ball of each colour and then got a second lot at a later date? Would it show if the colours were a different batch???

I don't think the batch difference would show too much if the colour is separated by another colour kuaka and if you had to join batches together you could just blend it in.

That's what I'm thinking kiwimade, as it's squares, and they are spread out throughout the blanket, but I won't proceed with it just yet, I'm going to try to de-stash a bit before I splurge out on any more wool - it's very frustrating, I really want to order the yarn, but I look at the stash and know I'd be foolish to go ahead with it just yet, I really must get rid of some first.

This will be my 10th election to vote in.. I have to admit Ive never know such a nasty run up to the election. Its dirty and really detracts from what the policies are. Ill be pleased when its all over in a month or two since we have to do all the De-Briefing and who will go with who stuff.

Isnt it funny how we start something and nearing the end decide we're not fond of it anymore. I haven't layed out a blanket yet, cos I know if I do I will give up on the hoody.
I like doing blankets the best. Our one is only getting three hours of work a week, while Coro is on lol. It will get done tho..
Would take me far too long to de-stash lol and I don't think id like it without lots of choice in front of me. Plus I like to buy when the specials are on.

Kuaka I can sleep through a Kirby vacuuming around the bed... In the good old days when MrP used to help out, he knew he was safe in not waking me. Same with lawnmowers lol.

Ooh the cake sounds yummy Kiwimade.. How is it going to be decorated?

I tried crocheting around a button this morning.. Without reading the instruction, and it keeps sliding off the button, so I guess Im "not" doing something right lol.. will look at the instructions later.

I'm going to put lemon icing on it popeye, and write Maddy's name on the icing using one of those icing pens. Might put some pretty sprinkles on it too. I'm not really a cake decorator - our kids were lucky to get a cake for their birthdays lol. I remember one sunk so badly and I didn't have time to make another so a friend filled the hollow bit with a packet of jelly beans lol. The kids loved it and still talk about it!

I've put my needles down to stitch a hardanger runner. It is doing my head in as I've made a mistake somewhere and can't find it. I've decided to work on my 'to do' list as I have destashed as much as I can and this pattern has been sitting there waiting for me to stitch it since 1998. I'll start knitting again once I get the tape measure around our wee Maddy and know her size.

Ohh Yummy Kiwimade, Love lemon icing... Lol re the jellybeans a good idea. The easiest thing tho is to cut the top flat and then turn the cake over and ice the bottom cos it will be flat and smooth.

Yes, we will vote this morning, check the mail as I haven't been out for two days, and then see what the rest of the day brings. I really should make an effort and start cleaning the old truck ready to sell it, but it's a daunting job and I keep putting it off. (Painting the roof is nagging away in the back of my mind too!)

Yesterday I finished a little baby top - one of those neck down ones. I now have to find two buttons for it - what's the betting if I can find two the right colour they'll be the wrong size, otherwise I'll only be able to find one. Going to Whangarei next week so I will get some buttons there if I need to.

It's sunny at the moment, but there looks to be some grey clouds coming in, so I think the sun will soon disappear and we will be blessed with more wet stuff! (The lawns are soggy as it is so rain is the last thing we need right now)

Aweee That's Awesome news Kiwimade.. Woohoo now the games start for real. I must find out if Addy is, she was close last time I spoke to the young ones next door.

We haven't had hail but all of the others raej2... Its been coolish tho, enough for me to put slippers and a cardie on..

Made an executive decision, and I have packed up the hoodie and extra wool and pattern. Ill send it to my SIL who has a neighbour over the back fence who knits for the oppy they have there.. Im sick of it, it would have hung over me.

So today I have moved hundreds of photos from the lappy to a flash drive.. and then binned them 697 I think it was, all deleted from the comp.. Still heaps there tho.. But just a few of the babies, and most of the knitting etc.
Then did a system restore to get rid of a java thing that wouldn't uninstall properly.

Then I layed out the squares of our granny square blanket which has been neglected and I have bagged some wool in the colour sequences I want, So now Untill I have more squares which are due to arrive this week for the plunket blankets Ill work on ours.

So productive election day.Ohh voted in the middle of all that lol

Hope everyone is ok an didn't geet washed away. We had rain come in under the front door. Landlord been saying for years he would put a front porch on, that won't happen now. Carpet will rot eventually.
We had more thunder and lightening which Missy was fine with but she didn't like the hard rain lol.

Did 7 squares for my blanket, so that was nice for a change. Have heaps of squares coming m way for the plunket blankets so will wait till they arrive and mix them all in.

Status quo for the government I didn't think all the bad stuff would hurt them.
MrP won't be happy when Itell him lol

I got about 8 I think squares done yesterday, and its amazing just how far a tiny bit of wool will go. The little balls are now little nuggets, but they haven't gone to the random bag just yet.

I see Deramores have new free patterns, I haven't looked at the email yet.

HAve to go and get some magnesium today, Im getting a lot of cramp. And none of the drs will give me quinine, cos of the warfarin.. Meanies...

Bonus is, shes in a snuggly mood today so shes keeping me warm.

So much for spring, we had much nicer days back in the winter (apart from the storms of course). The wind is enough to blow you off your feet. The bonus is that the washing I did, actually stayed on the line and dried in half the time it usually takes.

Nothing much exciting happening here, hopefully the weather will improve soon, meantime it's a good excuse to knit.

Sorry to hear about your injury popeye, be careful it doesn't get infected. Rest.

Thanks Kuaka, yeah they might only be deep scratches but I do have to be carefull with the infection side..
Probably wouldn't have worried me so much if they hadn't been where my feet swell making the skin tight ..
Lesson learnt tho, Do Not throw the object to be fetched if Missy is sitting on the body lol.
Our washing would have ended up in Honolulu if Id hung any out today lol.. Need a return address label on.
Have done 8 squares today. Have some ends to sew in before I start the next lot. Must be getting close to 70ish by now.

Ohh dear fire siren going again for the third time since lunchtime.

Im trying not to worry about the landlords funeral on Wednesday... I think it will either be a riot or humour, cos that's what Doug was like... or it could be an extremely sad one. I will go through wanting not to go, to determined I will, many times before Wednesday.
I will go, tho cos I know I have to., but it wont stop me going through every emotion before then

I see the autumn and winter patterns are all coming out on the emails now... Handy cos it gives us an idea of whats Hot for the next couple of seasons.

bugger Carolev - I remember once when I lived in Auckland, and my son lived way out west, I put a load of washing on and drove over to see my son, stayed for a while, had dinner, stayed a while longer and drove home, to find the water running down the driveway. The machine had had a hissy fit and hadn't stopped filling, it was still on it's first fill and the washing was still dirty!

Beautiful morning here, not a cloud in the sky, not a breath of wind. My afternoon out today and I won't feel guilty that I'm not spending time weeding - there's always tomorrow or the next day.

Still windy and cool here, little bit of grey cloud, but more blue than grey.

I sooo know what you mean about flooding washing machines. I stuffed my tailbone when I went water skiing in the garage a couple of years ago.. Touch wood its been good as gold since I had it fixed.

Have to go get petrol this morning as we have to go up the Manukau heads for the funeral. Will get some sausage rolls to cook and will do them and cheese muffins to take to the funeral tomorrow. I just cant go empty handed.

I have done 69 squares, so My guess wasn't far off.. And yes I prefer crochet to knitting at the mo too.

The scratches have lost their redness and burn now so that's good. Will keep my feet up when I can tho..

Kiwimade I hope your power is all sorted again, I figured it might have been power cuts that had kept people off the net.

Our firemen had four call outs that we heard yesterday, the last one being a tree fallen (blown) onto a house. Poor Vollies would have been tired last night that's for sure.

The battery in my car went flat yesterday for no reason , lights weren't left on or anything like that. I only bought it three months ago so the auto-sparky is checking it all out for me this morning. It could be the battery or it could be something happening with the car. Fingers crossed it's the battery but I suspect it's my car as the reason I replaced the battery in the first place was because it went flat for no apparent reason.

So there goes my morning.

It's Maddy's first birthday today, can't believe how quickly the year has whizzed by. I have her presents all organised, need to get wrapping paper today and a pretty card.

I should be able to knit/sew this afternoon all going to plan... but you know the deal... the best laid plans of men and mice!

Yes, time flies alright. Haven't seen my grandchildren now for about 6 years, and not likely to see them again for years to come. Nothing I can do about it, so no point worrying about it, just have to accept they live on the other side of the world and it's too far and too expensive to travel often.

Lovely day so far this morning, was 26 degrees when we went for our walk yesterday. This morning we are off to Whangarei to see a musculo-skeletal specialist to see if he can do anything to help Mr K return to normal function. Mr K is convinced it will be a waste of time, but fingers crossed. Will also go to the emporium and Spotlight, and possibly New World, seeing as we no longer have a supermarket as such, just a dwarf one. I will take my knitting to do while we're waiting.
