A photo guide would have been useful here as obviously nobody agreed with the grading. The shilling reverse is a shocker.

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.
No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

I've uploaded a scan of the relevant sections of Clarke here. The Australian series is included as he cross-references some of the NZ descriptions.

I know the PDF is a little clunky - it's based on ancient scans, but hopefully will serve as a stop-gap in the meantime. Probably best downloaded and printed out.

The 1983 dollar copies with the dodgy date digit have been doing the rounds for a while. They're usually the older, gun-metal grey forgeries that are pretty obvious at first glance. Interesting that sellers are turning up with not-very-good English and a name consisting of just two repeated letters (cc, qq) when you look at their profiles.

I would have thought the trader and TM could get into trouble with the reserve bank for allowing the sale of forged NZ legal tender. It is after all a forgery and not a copy not having copy on it.

Trademe use the position that they do not check every listing so it is up to the trademe community to report it and they will look into it further. So we often have to report auctions of copyrighted items from the same users time and time again. You could always take it one step further and report directly to the NZ police as the reserve bank would not deal directly with the problem is what I have been told.

I sometimes see the comparison between megaupload and trademe they have both knowingly facilitated the distribution of illegal / copyrighted material but I had better keep quiet lol

And there is also the question of whether or not it is legal tender now. If not, it falls under fraud more than forged money, as such.

Is it just me, or does the effigy of the queen look like the engraver asked a local friend of his to sit as a model?

The Chinese copy isn't the most accurate - though if you mean the original effigy by Machin, remember it was made in the early 1960s, long before it was introduced on NZ coinage :-)
Based on what I was told at the RB in 2006, the crown-sized dollars are still legal tender, as they weren't included in the Regulation that demonetised the remaining "large" coins.

Just wonder if they would speed up shutting these down if it were a forged $100 NZ banknote. What is the difference other than the denominated value?

It's because they're "rear". If they were nearer the front you'd see them better.

Wondering about those "serial number" items - someone filled in the wrong field in an automatic listing program?

Why would anyone expect to get $12 for a crappy Chinese knockoff (862144041) when an original is probably worth $5 in perfect condition?

It is their own Cash Converter store number, allocated for any item they purchase or sell ( some will have a specific prefix for a bought outright item, others for an unredeemed pawn loan.)

Oh C'mon , give the seller a break as both would be graded as AUNC by a few others that list on here.If he waits till 2034 ,may just get that $450 to $500.

That's what I figured - that presumably belongs in a reference field rather than an item header.

Have just noticed that the PO is calling the new ANZAC 50 cent coin as the first commemorative for circulation. Does anyone know if the 1940 halfcrown was sold as a commem. or just poured into circulation? I was not collecting coins in 1940.

It was released into circulation. I've already e-mailed NZP to suggest they reword to say the new coin is the first *decimal* circulating commem but have been ignored so far - maybe a few more voices will get some action.

Didn't some of the kingfisher $2 coins get released into circulation? I could well be wrong on that but the first few I found were in circulation and helped get my interest in collecting coins

ANZAC 50cent rolls.
And now for some completely useless information...
I checked the 40 rolls that I had access to and found the following about the 2 end coins in the rolls.

Obverse/Obverse 11x, Obverse/Reverse 23x, Reverse/Reverse 6x

Perhaps other collectors might like to waste a few minutes doing a similar survey. You never know, a numismatist in the dim, distant future may find this of interest.
