That is a good image.
Is it not a consensus between dealers that a single misperf as this one can at most dictate a little premium.

When the misperf is more than 5mm there could be a notable higher collector value attached to this.
Misperfs on multiples is again another kettle of fish, demand dictates the price.

A most interesting situation -- recently bought the year's new Jury NZ catalogue as have done for some years - as we all know Len Jury has been in the game a fair while & pricing is prob as fair an indication of dealer pricing - in a concise format ..

Anyway the new catalogue duly arrived & we thought it was fair bit thicker than past years ...

Right inside the front cover a huge full page advert from another accessories supplier ..

Reading the credits on the opposite page --- there's the standard piccie & few words from LJ himself - but saying he's passed the catalogue distribution & production side & orders over to Philatelic Distributors Ltd (PDL) ..

All good - so it's still a Jury catalogue .. or is it ? ;-)

Reach the centre and there's a fair bundle more adverts of those expensive SG catalogues & other accessories -- fine .. dont need them only wanted the NZ catalogue part .. they can be ripped out .. all good .. Oooops some have catalogue pages on the other side! ;-)

Going back some pages .. there's bound to be a Jury stamp order form
and somewhere else another order form for the SG catalogues and other accessories, or is there ? ;-)

Looking more closely there is just one order form for Philatelic Distrbutors which must cover everything.

Referring back to the front cover:

Title: "The Len Jury 2014 New Zealand Stamp Catalogue"

at bottom of the cover "A Premier Catalogue published by Philatelic Distributors Ltd"

So does anyone know if Len Jury has sold the business, downsizing whatever ?

Has he retired from dealing ?

The website : Lenjury.co.nz seems to be down only showing server pages

I'm sure Chris & Daniel from Philatelic Distributors Ltd will do the job as well as Len Jury did, but it does seem a bit curious when the inside foreword only says the "printing, distribution & filling of orders" have been taken over

Nice to see a more sturdy cover - but how about keeping all those extra centre advert pages on their own stand alone detachable removable pages, or even better on loose sheets inside ? ;-)

Most will know that PDL list many of those same items on here, so really what was to be gained by burying them in a publication format which many liked just the way it was ? ;-)

If the comment seen elsewhere on similar Advert Pages inserted in the SG catalogues prevails, then they were considered a darn pest ..

;-)

Re the new 2014 Len Jury stamp catalogue. I think you may be looking too deep for meanings on the transfer of the catalogue to new ownership. As many will know Len has had serious Health problems in recent years and his business has been for sale for some time because of this. As there seems to be nobody prepared to purchase the business as a unity Len has made the decision to sell it off as he can and it makes great sense that he has sold the name and all rights to the Catalogue to Chris and Daniel from Philatelic distributors as they were already responsible for the catalogue's distribution etc. The name on the catalogue is worth something as the Len Jury name is a well respected name in New Zealand philately. after all Stanley Gibbons as a brand name goes back a long time and the catalogues would loose a lot of their value should they loose that brand naming. We are very lucky in New Zealand to have two very cheap competing colour catalogues.

INVERCARGILL will this weekend be having their first stamp and postcard fair in a long time. The Southland Philatelic Society are running a 1 day fair on Saturday (22nd February) from 10am to 4pm in the Aged concern clubrooms on the corner of Forth & Nith Streets with free admission to all. They have managed to attract a number of dealers from around the South Island and i understand that a special CAL stamp will be given its first day of release at the fair.
I'm looking forward to attending the fair and I'm driving down all the way from Christchurch so it would be great to meet some locals at the fair.

We helped you out by getting one of our ex boys to show you how to score a try. The Chiefs scrums looked good? Two of your forwards got there heads together, were they trying to sort the scrum out. Six injuries round one. Aside, you got the win and the points, that is all that counts.

not yet. Everybody is waiting to hear what the returns policy is you have for items you have sold in past years. In my mind a return policy only comes into it if goods were not suitable for use (or faulty) when they were sold by the seller or with a reasonable period of time.

The Invercargill Philatelic Society's Fair went very well yesterday (Saturday 22nd) with a regular stream of collectors turning up.Only complaint i had was that they had pastry cooking smells wafting through the room too long before we got to eat our savouries. Oh what a temptress Margaret was!

Hi ya all,
*
*
I am a dabbler or novice collector whom has inherited & collected stamps for the last ten years. I am having to give up my collection of stamps due to ill health and no one else (ie: children), taking an interest into this wonderful world. So I am starting with My New Zealand Collection, many on pages and many loose. I have started with the first four pages and currently scanning the loose ones. They are in the state you see as pictured or scanned! If there is some stamp would like that I may have or would like to see in person, do feel free to ask questions and I will pop into the stamp forum from time to time with questions myself.
Regards LG.

Hi Ladygray. I would caution against going too small with each lot, especially with lower value run of the mill stamps. The $1 reserve does often work well even for a valuable stamp. I wuld stop offering free postage though, because by the time you pay your listing fee, photo fee and $0.70 minimum for postage (and envelope etc) you could actually loose a small amount if an item was to sell for only the $1. I dont want to start a massive postage rate debate on here, but no one would object to being charged the $0.70 postage and often atleast $1.00 is seen as very reasonsable, especially if some stamps like MUH need extra protection in an envelope. You may find later that MUH 70's to 80's actually sells for less than face value and so using them for your spoatge can be a good solution.

Bets of luck and will be watching your lots.

Thanks for that advice,
I do realise that many of my stamps are worth no more than face value, and it all depends mainly on condition, rarity and what collectors are willing to pay. I receive many auction catalogues and see some of the astounding prices achieved but I am realistic as to what all the above has as a factor in selling my stamps. I so 'love the research' and the history behind them truly love the efforts put into into each one! and I am saddened to have to sell as my heart condition dictates my daily life now and realise that no one in my family is willing to take on this wonderful hobby. So I would rather sell them to those whom love them as much as I do. I will change the free postage and more than likely throw in lesser value stamps for bulk sale... it doesn't really worry me, in the end its not about the money, it is been the passion of collecting and completing sets etc. Thanks. LG

Also one more thing on how to sell these some I will just into country lots, like this one, there are many more pre decimal of this country but are loose not photographed yet!.
http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/306546152.jpg ,
but then there are others like these ones ;) which I shall sell as singles they have no gum as they were totally stuck in an old book which took several water soaks to get of the dang page?,

The stamps on these posters are certainly real. I have had several in the past and some damaged posters that I had, I soaked the stamps off. They had special stamp points cancellations.

o.k. stamp traders - more or less trustworthy than the general TM riff raff?

I tend to think stamp collectors in general are a more trustworthy lot, but like all things, deal with eyes open. I look at feedback and if below about 95% look deeeper at their negatives. Also new traders with only 10 trades but already 3-4 negatives, I blacklist from even bidding on mine. Do many have a few blacklisted (dont want or expect names) just how you review whose buying from you and who you buy off.

Most of us have all had the completely unreasonable buyer or seller, that was never going to end positive.....My worst negative was a 12 yr old kid for a pick up only action, who posted negative beacuse it took me too long in their eyes to deliver to them. This was back before i knew you could get negatives removed when unreasonable.....I think a few of my nuetrals were fair gripes e.g. when first posting stamps out, did not provide much protection from bending etc, learnt from that.

bca - 2014-03-03 11:53:00

I generally buy from a few traders whom I have traded with for some time and I know I can trust.
I'm also generally wary of new traders although I appreciate that everyone has to start somewhere.
The main problem I've had is with items being described as "good condition" only to find they have creases, marks or toning.
Luckily these incidents are few and far between and I don't usually trade with that trader again.
Packaging can be a real problem. Some items you get are just put in an envelope with no protection at all while others have so much tape that you have to cut the package open and risk damaging the item.

Hi Vicki,
I have a copy of this one on file. The Ruapehu one had the mountain erupting and the $10 stamp and the commemorative cancellation on it too.
These posters were the ones issued with the stamps points programme. For every issue you purchased from the Philatelic Bureau, you were given ‘points’ and when you had enough you traded them in for posters.
I want to know
Is this your poster?
Are the stamps real?
Is the whole thing, stamps and poster a ‘print’?
I’m having ‘discussions’ with a gentleman who insists the whole thing is a fraud.
