Stamp fair this weekend?

Yes, first one for 2014. Stamp & Postcard Fair (Saturday 4th) from 9am to noon at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville St, Riccarton in Christchurch. Hopefully some out of towners on holiday will come along.

I understand that it is also free admission and plenty of good car parking around so it makes it easy to drop off the other half at Riccarton Mall and while away the morning at the stamp fair. Oh what bliss!

An interesting item - 1996 Health Error M/S FDC - # 680776870

Jury only list the Capex OP M/S Pair UHM @ 25K in 2013

Likely issued within NZ or perhaps released overseas ?

Anyone seen more of these about or could they be more rare than Muzz ? ;-)

o.k. I have got a post mark collection in a lot I purchased and dont collect post marks just yet.

Much interest in closed post office post marks, if so, sell seperate or list as a lot? any of particular rare value?

oh wel, will just have to list and see what happens. If the experts on here think its worthless stuff, let me know and I won't bother re-listing if it gets no bids.

Not too bad for a probably scarce if not rare MS FDC picked up on a trade table 15 years ago

think there mite be more in the way of variety of older rare rust particles for free in this lot - 677212309 - for what was offered at 1/5 of the bang for the 3 cornered cathedral ;-)

if you check you local phone directory - there are dealers in Waikato / Auckland (an indepth valuation may have a cost), or you could try your local stamp club to get some indication of value.

If you had a little time & the collection is not too specialised - Stanley Gibbons world & other catalogues are listed on here or may be available from your local library to at least get an idea of approx catalogue prices.

I heard in the Grapevine years ago that some of these covers were discovered in Holland. They were printed in Holland and pre cancelled as well (as was all the official first day covers for this issue) and supposidly destroyed.
So the story goes on, that they could be stolen / printers waste.
I stand to be corrected and would like to know if there is some substance to this story.

The story is correct and the buyer of this lot has now purchased something that was acquired.by a resident of the Netherlands who was given it illegally by the Dutch printers. It isn't perhaps surprising that the seller chose to offer the item when NZ Post Offcials were on their holidays.

No, they have scheduled repairs to be done between Fairs. So hopefully that goes to plan.
Stamp & Postcard Fair (Saturday 18th) from 9am to noon at the Philatelic Centre, 67 Mandeville St, Riccarton in Christchurch.
We have a Christchurch dealer who is relocating to Blenheim, having two tables to try and clear material, so he has less to shift. So should be good pickings.

Postage Rates over the Ditch with AusPost:

Dec 2013 SMH

" AusPost pleas for 10c postage increase"

SMH dont want anyone to read the rest without passing through their Paywall rings & hoops apparently, but never mind another publisher happily gives an idea of tings happening:

www.heraldsun.com.au/business/australia-post-tipped-to-incre
ase-60c-charge-as-letter-deliveries-slump/story-fni0dcne-122

"Australia Post tipped to increase 60c charge as letter deliveries slump"

"STAMPS are tipped to rise to 70c next year after Australia Post lost a record $187 million on traditional mail business.
Australia Post delivered a billion fewer letters in the past 12 months than it did five years ago, as letters suffered from a surge in the use of email by homes and businesses.

But the boom in online shopping has delivered the company a "digital dividend".

Chief executive Ahmed Fahour said Australia Post had become a "two-speed company", making a $355 million profit from parcel delivery and express services and $201 million from retail services.

The overall after-tax profit was $312 million, up 11 per cent.

The Abbott Government will get a $244 million dividend to boost its Budget.

Mr Fahour said that the number of letters delivered had dropped by 263 million to 4.5 billion in the past year alone.

Asked if stamp prices would have to rise at some point, he said "of course".

...

Stamp prices have increased just four times in the past 20 years and the standard price of 60c has been frozen for four years.

"We are not trying to make a profit on delivering letters, but trying to decrease the losses," Mr Fahour told the Herald Sun.

He warned this steep decline in traditional mail was becoming "an unsustainable challenge" and required the company to modernise.

Mr Fahour has introduced digital mailboxes and 24-hour parcel lockers to enable people to pick up online shopping.

But he vowed fewer letters did not mean the end of posties.

"Just because letters disappear, doesn't mean the postie needs to disappear or the service to the community of five days a week," he said.

Mr Fahour said 25 per cent of all parcels would be delivered by posties as Australia Post reinvented itself."

more at the link..

Shame about our local lot trying on their own unique well trimmed down version of reinventing themselves ;-)

As for local online or digital dividends, that must still be with the pointy noses in finance section busy with trimming the costings ;-)

o.k. frustrated today. Person started auction for FDC's at $1 reserve twice, placed bids, both times on two diff auctions. Both times bids removed and then the seller alters the terms and conditions and starts again. The first time, they altered postage rate, the second time it went from a $1 reserve, to a $1 start, but reserve not met......if your going to list something, check it before you press the "list" button, if you make a error and get nervious because you started at a $1, you cant just cancel peoples bids to suit yourself. Live with the mistake or ride out the tension of a $1 reserve. I no longer trust this seller and wont bid anymore, as I have no faith that any price met, will actually be honoured. If I have made an eror, I add comments in the notes for future bidders, if the current highest bidder wins it, my problem, not their. If someone bids after I add the note about the error, then I have fixed it...what do others do about errors? How do you feel about people ntaking bids off, just because they made a mistake?

The third meeting of West Auckland Stamp Club for this year (tonight Monday 3rd February, 2014) is featuring FIJI, which should be very interesting. This will be a presentation by Tane McManus, a Pasifika philatelist. You're welcome to come along if you can make it. Please bring some of your own stamps as well.

We also hope to view a brief movie film on Fiji.

In addition we hope to have items of interest (bring any of your recent acquisitions to show!), and have our usual bring-and-buy.

We meet at 148a Cliff View Drive, Green Bay, on the first & third Mondays each month. Meetings start at 7.30 pm. We ask each person to bring a small food contribution towards supper, which is usually around 9 pm after we have finished looking at stamps.

Yes, definitely the postmark cancellation. From what I've read each Post Office had it's own cancellation (postmark) number. I'm trying to track down which was number 19. I think it may be Sunderland but I'm looking for any confirmation I can find.

Hi all, I need some help to identify some older stamps I have found in a small wooden box that has been in my possession for many years.

The first one is unusual as it is a small green stamp that simply says New Zealand along the bottom. Looks to be a crown in the middle and above that but partly covered by the ink from the date stamp it looks like it states *GRA* with what looks to be the Mornington mark.

The second one is a similar size stamp, white background with a green oval in the centre is Queen Victoria and around the outside it says Stamp Duty NZ, One Penny. This stamp has pencil writing across the face.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, posted this on the main board, should of posted it here. A friend has found an interesting NZ stamp. It is either the SG#29 which was 4d, or the SG#39 which was 1d. Both stamps are photos of the White Terrace, Rotomahana. The thing is that there is no value on the stamp at all. You can just see a tiny piece of the value part of the stamp which should of been at the bottom, at the top of the stamp. I tried to take a photo but it's not very clear. The stamp on the right is the normal stamp just to compare it with the other stamp.
Should he get it valued ? It's a misprint for sure.

Not a Missprint but a Missperf a better photo would help.
