if you are buying items off the ebay, then selling them on trademe at a 500% markup, how can you possibly not be in trade?

am I missing something here??

dtpapa - 2015-02-08 09:54:00

Of course these people are in trade. There are also people who have second hand/antique shops yet are not in trade on this site (?). TM is not interested.
Inland Revenue may have an interest however.

Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

if your letter/parcel with your coin has obviously been tampered with, would it get sent back to the sender by nz post, or would they deliver the empty parcel to you?

dtpapa - 2015-02-09 15:33:00
5558

I suspect they'll just deliver whatever is left. I had to go hunting down the footpath for some coins that were poorly packaged a few years ago. They had probably been damaged in the postie's back by the heavy rain at the time of delivery. They had also been poorly packaged and many were floating loose within the envelope.

When I pulled the letter out of the box, a couple of coins fell out and landed besides several others already on the ground. I look back the way the postie came, and there were a few more! I found almost all except the one I had really been after.

Just watched the attached video for the new NZ 50cent coin- made me cringe everytime i saw the coins bashing into each other thru the minting process- surely they would not all survive this process unscathed-- surely few could be considered UNC

That's probably why the Americans invented ten grades of Uncirculated :-) Bill Lampard used to say that UNC is not a grade, it's a state - once it's been "circulated" it can no longer be truly UNC, no matter how good it looks. Rattling around in the production machinery may create bag marks but they are still technically uncirculated.

I think I'll just stick to collecting mostly ancients. The "ten grades of uncirculated" is not often an issue with them!

I'm not totally familiar with this particular fault but suspect it isn't widely known, and more information will be needed from collectors who have examined their Geo V coins closely to establish which other dates/denominations exist.

This optimist has six lots of banknotes at only $500 start. For example:-
1919 - Poland 1,000 Banknote Start price: $500.00 Closes: Mon 16 Feb, 9:14 pm Listing #: 845266202
Coinsnz has a similar one at $8.

Could some kind person please tell me if this is worth anything here. I see they are silly amounts of money on e-bay but I know nothing about notes so maybe what's for sale there is special somehow. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I have 1934,35 Florins & 1933,34,35 HalfCrowns identified in my collection with this fault type however they are in different places for different years. There is also a die crack on a 1936 threepence 1933,34 Sixpence & 1934 shilling on the Kings left shoulder part of the robe

They could well be on all years but I dont have not been through my silver coins to check

Interesting and worrying - I will have a couple of pieces to double-check now :-) One item that I have had since the 1970s is one of those Scarborough "doubloons" illustrated in the SCMB article - someone correctly identified it at the time and I've kept it as a curiosity since.

Something looks weird there. Looks like a denticle missing or very weak next to the "box" too.

10 cents at the reserve bank or depending on condition and if it is a circulating variety it could be worth between $1 - $10 according to catalogues (if people paid full catalogue price)

Not a lot of info to go on, but if it's a NZ one and picked out of circulation, then about 8c to a dealer :-)

i have a 1965 nz proof set in clear cellophane (deteriorated) the florin has come out a number of times and the Penny has now got a new slit in the wrapper. tis likely going to be damaged further (thanks kids) so perhaps time for a more caring owner how much is it worth?

Probably not a lot, realistically, if the pack is cracked in a couple of places as you describe. Wonder if it might be worth popping all the coins out (carefully) and selling them individually if they're all still in perfect original order. The ones in the plastic packs are technically semi-proofs rather than full proofs, though - it makes quite a big difference :-)
