The Great Christmas Recipe Thread

#Post

Lightly toast some slices of bread - grain breads give great flavour and goodness. Mix together grated cheese, ham pieces, and a little of your favourite relish. Spread this on the lightly browned toast and place on an oven tray and grill in your oven for delicious cheese on toast - great for easy lunches or dinners with a glass of juice, etc... Add some ham to a pasta sauce - whether a tomato based sauce or a creamy cheesy sauce..

Make a cheese scone mix, adding a teaspoon of dry mustard to the dry ingredients. The mustard enhances cheese flavours in cooking. Once mixed, shape the dough into a round shape that is about 2 to 3cm high. Bake in one piece, with cooking times, temperature, etc.. as per the recipe - check with a skewer to ensure the centre is cooked. . Once cooked and slightly cooled, slice the scone circle into half horizontally and lift the top half to the side. Place grated cheese on the top of the bottom circle, then add sliced ham, relish or chutney or pickle of your choice, and some salad ingredients - tomato slices, lettuce etc. Place the top of the scone back on the filling, then cut into wedges to serve, for a delicious filled scone. Just scrumptious! Hope these suggestions help.. Cheers.. Julie :-)

Pavlova topping or a dessert.. I adapted a recipe that was posted in another thread before Christmas.. I think the poster called it "Eton Mess" - it was a mix of whipped cream and crushed meringues. I did this, using 300mls cream and 6 meringues (I bought some as I didn't need the amount a full batch of them would make). I whipped the cream, broke the meringues into bite sized pieces, and folded those in with some chopped marshmallows, some well drained crushed pineapple and some chopped strawberries. The mix can then be served in a bowl for everyone to help themselves, or served in individual bowls or glasses, or piled on a pavlova - so the cream and topping were mixed. It tasted very nice and I'll make this again. I also tried folding sliced cooked peaches through, and using pineapple pieces instead of crushed pineapple.. however we preferred it without these. Have a great 2008 Everyone..

You too Timturtle.. :-) and this is another recipe to use up left over ham - or you can use bacon. Make your favourite pikelet recipe, and add chopped ham or bacon, grated cheese and finely chopped onion. Make as usual.. and enjoy.. they're truly delicious...

Hi Celosia,, a quick way to look for a recipe or thread: Have the messageboard on your screen - or a thread open, etc.. - or any internet page. On the lower left of your keyboard, hold down the control (Ctrl) key, and at the same time press the letter "F". A box will pop up. Type a word you're looking for - ie "truffle" and click next.. and again.. until you find what you're looking for.. or you've found all the threads or posts with that word in. Not on that page? Go to the next one and repeat.. makes it easy to find any thread or posts in a thread that you're looking for.. Cheers..

Hi Timetable.. that's a great idea about sharing info about specials.. You know there's a very clear increase in the butter price when Miss 11 says: "Far-out.. Butter is nearly $5.00!" Christmas is now less than 11 months away - and the very good news is that there are a wealth of wonderful Christmas recipes right here in this thread, that Brianmac started on 12 August 2005.. Isn't the thread awesome.. :-)

This is a nice chocolate fudge recipe.. great for Christmas gifts: Grease a tin or heatproof dish about 20cm (8inches) in diameter. Bring to the boil, stirring often: 2 cups sugar, 25gms butter, 1/2 cup milk and 1 tablespoon cocoa. Once boiling, continue with a rolling boil on a low heat for 10 minutes. Don't stir during this time, as the fudge will be grainy afterwards. After 10 minutes, remove from the heat and beat well with a wooden spoon or electric mixer until thick. Pour into the tin. Mark into squares and leave till cold. I like to add some nuts and or raisins to our fudge - I add them just as I start beating the fudge - about a cup full. This makes a nice change, and lessens the sweetness, and adds some goodness too. Peanuts, brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds etc..etc. can be used - and also any dried fruit - apricots, sultana's, raisins, craisins, etc..

Hi juliewn..... Just a quiet period of time at the moment but was busy at the beginning. In 10 months time will be starting again.... Time does go by too quickly now even though this year has an extra day, perhaps why noted 9 instead of 10, still does not seem long enough. LOL. Cheers to you. Easter is early this year though.

hi all long time no visit!! the old computor has been in for some wokr so it's been quiet at our place!! have also been stock pileing at our place too, and watching the price of flour, sugar, rice, pasta etc. with what is being stated on the business news etc, it may pay if you are able, to get in a good supply of the above, because they look as tho they will not only rise in price but also be in short supply. i have had a number of folk comment that some supermarkets already have empty shelves re some products. we are buying more and more homebrand stuff - woolies - and have found it to be just as good as brand products. still watching the dairy products but when on special am buying if able an extra one or two to put in the frezzer. God bless all and stay warm - she's chilly in Gore tonight!
