I reckon you can never have too much wool either

morning all, although the 10 stitch one looks nice, I don't fancy knitting one. I am working on a patchwork blanket at the moment, knitted in squares from leftovers.
It is based on this one:

http://www.spudandchloe.com/blog/2010/04/dream-catcher-baby-
blanket-free-pattern/

and so far looks like this:

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/253140967.jpg

I have decide to do the edge in one piece using circular needles, but I haven't chosen a colour or stitch yet.

How do you use up your leftovers?

popeye - your toys are amazing - I wouldn't have the patience!

Well, I have a nice day off, rather cool to start, but certainly a few knitting hours ahead.

I persevered with the sewing up and it is finally done. (thank god for that lol)
It only took 2 weeks and I'm not happy with it, the collar doesn't sit right and there is suppose to be a third button but it's too high up and makes the collar look worse, so i left it off. The top of the sleeves are sewn too tight and it looks smaller than the size i knitted. So it is a complete flop!!!

whiskey, it looks fine! My how we judge ourselves lol (I am just as critical with my stuff though!).

Is that pattern Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed 2354? If it is, I have it on my wish list at patternfish - I think it's gorgeous!

I crochet granny squares with my left-overs, and then (normally but not always) do the last round of the square in the same colour (usually black if the other colours are quite bright).

I also find that it's much easier to join the squares together if I only do the first three rounds in the colours, then I do the fourth round on one square and finish it off. Then when I do the fourth round on the next square I don't finish it off, but join it to the first square, then do the fourth round on the third square and don't finish it off but join it to the second square. I keep going in this way until I have a strip the length I want it, then I do several strips and then join the strips together.

You know its funny about the peggy square blankets. My cleaner knits long rows then joins them together. It cuts out alot of sewing up. Sometimes I dont have a practical mind so had never thought about doing it that way lol

I used to make crochet blankets but just doing one big square.
We have three in the house all in three shades, dark and light green with cream. Dark and light pink and cream and purple mauve and cream. Then I have the magic square one mum did for me. Oh and one I crochet for my stepfather about 29 yrs ago which I made from left overs on toys I made for friends having babies and did most of the work when we went on holidays and I crochet in the car.

I was looking at other knitted toys on here. Im going to sound up myself but I do like my choices of colours much better than alot Ive seen on here.

Bertie is coming along slowly. Im having a flat battery day which is from warfarin, you feel flat as a pancake and dont feel like doing a thing

I like that expression "flat battery day". I have them from time to time but it's nothing to do with medication as I'm not on any, it's usually just plain old age, or overwork or lack of sleep.

NZMU the flat battery days are from the heart surgery and being on warfarin. If I have a bad one, which thankfully hasnt happened for a while, it takes all my effort to get up dressed and eat breakfast.
It drains you of any energy.

But I started the term thinking it was the only way to describe it.. and stupid thing is you can bbe fine the day before and the day after lol

Something weird is happening, I also sold a cupcake hat and baby boob hat to craftylady. Now I see I have sold The rude Booby Beanie. Eight items in 24 hours how weird is that? I don't want to sell anymore I will get muddled up. Hope you don't think I'm a big headed skite but this has just never happened to me before. I must have done something good yesterday. See ya.

Not weird at all Armin, your providing something people want. Crafty lady is a lovely lady. Ive traded with her before and she is on the general MB.

Sometimes things you dont think will go, get swooped up fast. Other times you can list and relist many times then all of a sudden its gone.

Off to get the shopping this morning. will drop off a book and pick up two others I ordered in. Im well know for reading a series of books all muddled up, or in one case I read a series totally back to front, but in order.
When I got thre three books in a series last month From the back of the book you couldnt tell it was a series but I opted to read it in order of the dates mentioned. Then discovered that it was a series of nine. I had read parts 3-4- and 6. and have just finished part one lol

Have a good day all. I might take my knitting to the med centre I hate sitting there doing nothing.

hope the battery has recharged ok popeye. Left over wool if 4ply I knit prem beanies for Tonga - even though it is hot there their winter can be coolish - well pleasant for me but cool for them, ie a light cardy day. The the rest knitted into peggy squares just basic ones in garter stitch and colours added when run out of one so quite a hotchpotch but once joined with black wool and a border added they make good cot covers or knee rugs. Sounds like they could be messy but they look ok and the mums like them for putting baby on the floor or in the pram. Now really must go and get hair cut as it's starting to drive me nuts.

Afternoon ladies. Had blood tests done on Monday and was told to return for more on day 3 of my period. It wasn't meant to be due until Friday so blood tests done on Monday, but no 4 days early and another lot of tests today. THEN the nurse forgot to label the container so i had to go back for more. Same arm and same spot on arm, now it is bruised all inside my albow and i feel achy and i also feel like a pin cushion. I'm sick of having "womanly" problems that require blood tests. There I've had my grumpy bum tantrum for the day. :)

whiskey13 - 2013-02-07 13:47:00
513

Ohh Whiskey you poor thing... Its bad enough having periods but to have the tests that close together is horrible.
I have to have INR tests which tests the clotting ability of my blood. Cos when I was conceived my aortic valve didnt form properly. So I ended up getting a metal one 6 yrs ago. And Im on warfarin to thin the blood for the rest of my life.
If Im good I have had 6 weeks between tests once. More often its a month. but Ive had it as often a every day when I first had the opp and every two days for a while. Ive just come through a patch of weekley. And I had a butcher last week, she caused a clot, it was red and bruised badly. Had another tuesday just gone and it was one of the regulars so no problems with theirs.
I thank goodness Im not scared of needles etc. I dont like having lures put in and I dont like anything in the back of my hand. But normal bloods I can handle.
Im on depo cos I didnt fancy being on blood thinners and having periods. They were shocking before the warfarin I didnt want to find out what they would be like after lol.
Hope things get sorted out for you soon.

My battery is at abouy 75% charged lol. The knitting has been slow but I try and do some each day.

popeye333 - 2013-02-07 15:52:00

Oh you poor things, whisky and popeye. Thank goodness I don't have those sorts of problems but I do recall years ago having blood tests to see if I was diabetic and that involved having blood taken, then drinking a glass full of this disgusting thick sugary liquid, waiting an hour and then having more blood taken, then another hour and having more blood taken. I was told to take a book or some knitting to do while I was waiting for the two hours between the first vampire attack and the third one. Naturally I took my knitting (or crochet, I forget). What I do remember is that a couple of days later my arms were bruised from the inside of the elbow to the wrists. They took the second blood sample from the left arm and the other two from the right. I looked like I was a victim of a violent husband (I didn't have a husband at the time) and luckily the tests were negative.

kuaka - 2013-02-07 16:50:00
515

Kuaka I took my knitting when I had my diabetes test too lol.. was big needles and knittng the feather wool with a strand of double knitting with it, into a scarf. I knitted the whole scarf lol.

I has lures in the back of the hands a couple of times and the bruises went through to the palm of my hand. Very painfull. So before I have surgery I warn them not to put them there.
They are very good if you tell them not to put things where you dont like them. I will say I woke up with lures in the wrist inline with the thumb and in my ankles instead one time lol.
Best thing now about needles etc is that I can tell if my thinness is too thick or thin when I do the pricker test for my sugar level lol.So I can usually guess what my INR will be lol

I know what you mean about people thinking you have been beaten up etc. I bruise very easy of course, but it has taken me years to remember not to carry boxes on my forarms, on the inside lol, I bruise very easy there and being so white it shows up big time.
Half the time I have no idea how I get the bruises.

popeye, glad to see your battery is recharging :o)
jayemtoo - lovely idea with the prem beanies, no, I had not really thought of Tonga as anywhere cool lol.
Needles away ladies - nothing like a few hours knitting to de-stress.

Morning all. A nice coooler start to the day.

Had MrP down to the lab for his bloods this mroning, hes a hard one to do, he has very fine veins so they have to lure him to get anything.

Dropped the car off for a warrant, dont you just hate having to get warrants? We got a loaner car, and finally it is into MrPs head that we need to keep the Honda CRV and not have a normal car cos he could barely get in or out. lol Felt like our butts were dragging on the road lol

Shoulder not so great today. But thankfully my cleaner is due and she will hang the washing out for me. I can get it down cos I dont have to stretch up to get it. But hanging it out is a problem some days, Thank goodness we dont have kids to create piles of washing lol

My knitting has slowed but I intend to put some good work into it today.

Have a good day all

Good morning everyone, eeewww yuck blood tests - I need to have a lure too popeye, hate getting them done.
I have been busy getting organised for our quake repairs which start on Monday, so not much knitting done this week. We will be all set once the caravan arrives today and we have somewhere to sleep. Furniture was supposed to go into storage today, but the guys who came and packed yesterday were so efficient they got it packed and removed in 7 hours - I had prepacked all my craft gear (which was spread over 2 rooms) though, lol.
Had to quickly borrow an airbed to sleep on last night, I felt comfortable but am quite sore today. We have set up a big compound for the 3 dogs and I bought a cheap tent off TM for them to use during the day. I sat out in the tent in my garden lounger yesterday and did a bit of knitting - it was lovely. So at least 2 weeks ahead of nothing much to do except knitting/crochet/cross stitch, I'm looking forward to it now.
Hope everyone is well today, have a lovely weekend and happy knitting xo

Wow Maible...its taken a long time eh... Hopefully the time will speed by but also drag lol.. fasy so your not having to stay cooped up in a tent and caravan, but slow enought that you enjoy your craft time.

Car passed its warrant, yay... I hate getting them lol.. One tyre is 1mm down on the others but we will get some at christmas time. We do very little mileage thank goodness. And being in credit at the garage means we never have to worry lol.
House feels much better now. Now the cleaner has been. And was nice that she hung my washing out. Its not normally a job I get her to do unless my shoulder is too sore.

Have been knitting, but being that I had a terrible nights sleep, I may just read this afternoon instead of concentrating on a pattern

Afternoon ladies. I bought this book a wee while ago (i hope the link worked lol) and have only just started knitting the sample socks. I'm thinking of (slowly lol) making my way thru the book knitting each pair of socks. There are some lovely patterns.I'm not going to give myself a time frame for each pair cos i will only be able to pick the needles up for a few mins each day during the week but more often in the weekends.
First things first is using this method to knit my sister a pair of socks for her birthday (in July) using mum's homespun wool.

Morning everyone... Gotta love the slightly cooler starts to the morning..

Im trying hard to save for another order from deramores. That James C Brett would is lovely for the toys.
Trying she says lol cos someone has listed a few very cheap jean Greenhowe books. but Ive been good and only bid on one. lol

Will be knitting later today, A friend who knows I collect old childrens Pres and dean & sons books and annuals sent me ahuge box full. Sdo I need to go through them and sort out double ups and rearrange the book cases to hold them. A fun job cos I love the books and love the smell of the old books.
My eldest to date is a 1941 copy of the Water Babies. Funny thing is I never read as a kid or young teenager so have never read any of these books like What Katy Did, Heidi, Little women etc.
So I will enjoy my morning.

Hope everyone is well.

Morning everyone. Haven't been in here much this week as have had a busy week at work and on top of that, have had computer issues. Last night it nearly drove me crazy as I just couldn't get on line. Thought it was my laptop. However, after I had fiddled around for more than an hour, decided to ring Vodafone and found out that there were problems for South Island customers. If I'd only run earlier, lol !!

Have just been for an hour an a half walk with the dog and am about to do interesting stuff like housework and gardening :-(

Seem to have lost my mojo for knitting and cross-stitch this week, so hopefully tonight I will find it. Might go and have a look at those Jean Greenhowe books Popeye. Won't bid on the one you're on though.

Have a great day everyone.

Haven't been in because we have had two family bereavements and the last week has been a bit much. Not immediate family thank goodness but a very bad time.

However in the midst of it all I managed to buy a knitting pattern book from BookDepository, so I have something to look forward to. It's still a bit warm for knitting though. Maybe this time next month. In the meantime I am not short of reading matter so I'll plough into that. Aren't books wonderful companions?

Sorry to hear your sad news daleaway, a very sad time for you.

What book are you getting from BP. I'm waiting on two from there - a book on how to do crochet and the other one is Ladies a Plate - has some great old recipes in it.

I agree, books are wonderful companions. I have a whole stack to read but my cross-stitch and knitting keeps getting in the way, lol.

So sorry to hear about your loss daleway. I'm in the middle of packing my "tree" books away for EQC repairs starting on the 11 March (if i don't start now, it wont get done lol). I still have my e-reader thou and i read it at teatime at work so I've always got it with me. Plus I'm clearing/tidying the master bedroom this weekend as our new super king sized bed arrives on Wednesday. Solid rimu, solid slate base with a headboard and footboard. Never had beds with headboards or footboards before and either the pillows fall down the top or the blankets fall off the end (esp. when the dog wants under the covers and pushes all the blankets off). I'll find auction on TM that is similar to show what i mean

Such a hard time Daleaway.. and your right books are Great companions.. Listing the spares I had today was kinda painfull even tho I have my collection safe and sound.
Im lucky I have B1anca from general as a friend and she always looks at bookfairs for me to keep the collections growing.
Im also collecting Enid Blyton too.. And the old book I thought was Water babies is Whinnie the Pooh.. Must look and see if it a first edition.

Lol Pats, theres only one of the current listings for Jean Greenhowe Im bidding on. the Bazzar Knits. The trader must be having a big clear out cos she has some lovely baby patterns too.

I havent picked up the needles at all today. Will do some tonight Im sure, well I hope anyway lol

Enid Blyton !! I loved Enid Blyton as a child, especially the Secret Seven. I've often thought I would like like to collect them, the old ones that is. It really takes me back to my wonderful childhood. The new Enid Blyton books in the shops just don't seem the same, lol.

I remember at Christmas time for several years, my main present was a Secret Seven book!! and I was very, very happy with that. I don't know if children these days would be so happy if their main present was a book - lol.

Well I've mowed the front lawn. My mower is battery operated and I think it's past it's use by date as I used to be able to do the back lawn as well without recharging it. I now have to recharge it so the back won't get done until tomorrow I imagine. I've come inside because it's too hot out there - well that's my story, lol.

I don't think I ever owned any Enid Blytons. My parents were fairly reluctant to buy me books because I was such a fast and voracious reader - would have cost them a fortune. So I used the town library during the week and a suburban one at weekends - spent most weekends with my grandparents. That saw even me with enough to read. If I were a kid today with the Internet I would never stop reading. I got through most of the Blytons aged about 7.
That's a very sturdy bed whiskey, that should "see you out" as my granny used to say. Footboards are easier to deal with now that duvets are popular - they were difficult to use bedspreads with.

Didnt feel like being busy this morning. But have done the rubbish, recycles and packed up meat etc for the freezer.

Did a few rows of the top of the head / hat area of bertie.

Yes Whiskey it is a lovely bed. I do not like sleeping in beds without headboards. I guess it is just what I am used to. My bed is a King size too but I don't have a foot board. I bought my headboard off here, (TM) about 4-5 years ago. They were retailing new for $1600 and I got it for $800 (like new) and then a few months later the bedside drawers that match came up and I got them for half price too (once again, like new). I was thrilled.

Popeye, hope I'm not the cheeky mare - lol, but I did take note of who was bidding. *runs off to have a look* lol

I'm keeping away from Deramores at the moment, especially as they've had some good discounts lately!!

Hello all, I managed a little bit of knitting last night but we're taking down curtains today and doing last minute jobs before repairs start tomorrow. Dogs are coping reasonably well, and getting used to the new routine but were a bit unsettled by a 3.8 quake this morning just after we had put them in the compound. They soon calmed down though.
We've had two nights in a smallish caravan, it's not too bad apart from our cats thinking it's great to have playtime on the caravan roof at 4.30 - 5am. I'm so pleased we have one bedroom inside we can use as a lounge/dog sleeping quarters though, would be a nightmare otherwise.
Hoping to get some serious knitting done during the week - I'm having withdrawal symptoms.
I just had a peek at Deramores too, but managed not to spend any money.
Take care everyone xo

Noo not you Pats lol.. a stranger lol... Id I dont succeed in getting it she will be paying more for it tho lol.

They have had some good specials eh.. The norty people at deramores.. I want to save up till I can do another big order.

Sorry Maible but I had to laugh about the cats playing on the top of the caravan. Took me back to my teenage years when my grandmother moved in with us so I had a carvan. If it wasnt the cats playing pon the roof it was the dogs (2 boxers back then) scratching on the door wanting to be let in.
Hopefully things will happen quickly for you.

popeye333 - 2013-02-10 17:34:00

I love Shepherds too, we have several friends with Shepherds, and Boxers. Our smallest dog is a Bichon x Lhasa Apso - very cute but stubborn. Middle sized dog is the Boxer x who was a pound dog we rescued, very excitable but loves cuddles. Biggest dog belongs to our daughter but lives with us - he is a 52kg Rottweiler and the biggest softie of them all. He's been on restricted movement for 6 months after 2 knee operations, and hurt the same leg 10 days ago, It's a bit tricky trying to keep him quiet with the other 2 wanting to play all the time.
They're all in trouble at the moment - the dog from next door got out and was in our driveway, so our lot were trying to get out and play. They knocked my cup of tea all over my knitting wool basket and patterns. Luckily I had my wool in bags and the patterns are drying out in the sun - I was not happy though, I thought I had everything tucked away where it was safe but the full cup went flying.... oh well such is life.

Not good re the builder being sick Maible... rotten timing eh.
It doesnt surprise me that the dogs are unstettled. But hopefully it wont take too long and they will settle back in and be happy again.

My friend down the road has sold her house and they are moving to Paeroa, going to miss her heaps, and will have to find a new cleaner eventually... But thankfully they will be back to visit cos her MIL is in the home here in town so when they visit her they will do everyone... They have a camper so I will tell her they are welcome to park out the front.

Oooh thanks for the pic popeye, looking good :)
I have been busy today too, but going to attempt some knitting now while the dogs are napping. Have been washing all my drapes - doing a couple each day, only 3 to go now.
Sad about your friend moving away but at least you will see them when they visit.
