My only day off this week as covering for a colleague tomorrow ... twas enjoyable though Miss 14 has reduced me to a pauper in one day flat!!!
She received an invite from a school friend this afternoon to a week in the Marlborough Sounds starting 22/01 so that will give my finances a chance to recover. I have loved having her spend the summer hols with me though & in the confined space of the caravan our relationship has only blossomed :)

snotty about the night here too, except that it was an earthquake that woke me (which is nothing new) but I am getting headaches from not being able to sleep through the night, or suddenly being woken from a deep sleep.

Incredibly windy in Chc today and sunny - looking forward to my tomatoes ripening :-) Yay for red in the garden!

Vynfields is very attractive. I can't remember if the house was shifted to Martinborough from either Lyall Bay; Evans Bay or Island Bay. The sun and their award winning riesling has made me forget! My DH is opening a VB for your DH, and sends him many happy returns.

Ha ve had a lovely day today for DH's Birthday. I took him out to Moartinborough to "Vynfields" which is an organic vinyard with accommodation, wine tasting and meals etc. We sat out in the garden amongst the vines and had a lovely leasurely lunch.
http://www.vynfields.com/ n He got a really "blokey" present of a Bosch drill and some drill bits! LOL but his old one gace up the ghost quite a while ago and he is struggling to do things at home without it, so he was one happy boy. He also had a delivery of fowers to work from me as well.

A very happy birthday to your Dh,glad he had a lovely day.

Morning everyone.
Had a lovely meal with Mr & Mrs Cooks on Thursday, was nice to catch up. Spent yesterday just relaxing, had breakfast in Mt Eden, browsed some interior design type shops in Newmarket for ideas before dropping Miss 19 off to work in Queen Street, and today plan to just potter.... washing....aim to make a few meals for the freezer. Works super busy so I am using the weekends to recharge. Then we pick up Miss 17 from a 5 day trip on the Spirit of Adventure at 4pm..... Then before you know it .... it will be Monday morning and another week.....
Have a great day all JBx

Hi Everyone.. and a very Happy New Year to you all..

I just typed a post, and when closing a different page, managed to delete the one I'd typed instead.. oops!

I hope your year has begun well for you all.. have been thinking of you.. had a look at my feedback page before logging in, to see that it was 11 December since last online here, lots to catch up on and read..

Thanks for the good wishes, and words and posts further back in the thread.. and to you too Fisher.. :-)

Buzzy.. it's astonishing that you've got yourself in such a state about our Christmas breakfast, and made a heap of assumptions. You needn't have posted.. my Daughter's Partner is a qualified chef with over 8 years experience in restaurant kitchens.. breakfast was delicious, with not a park bench, or a public park, in sight.

It's lovely to read all the posts about your Christmas' and all the goodies made.. and of time with family and friends, time outdoors, of your travels, search for rural homes, house moves, a move to Australia (is romance involved???).. your home repairs completed Calista.. good to see your posts too Charlie and Ali.. hope your house hasn't been further damaged Charlie, that work is underway for the repairs, and your family are all well.. and that the sinus problems have cleared Ali and all is good for you there..

It's just awful that the earthquakes keep happening.. I hope there's no further effects on your homes.. there's been the storms and flooding, the horrific balloon crash.. the Rena not far from us here.. may it be that 2012 brings a finish to the settling of those huge plates beneath the earth's surface, and no more in the way of storms and flooding, etc.. please Mother Nature..

Christmas with everyone together was very special here.. lots of shared times then and over the time following.. New Year's eve spent with dear friends, then again together New Year's night.. watching movie's till after 2am.. ...

I've been busy in my kitchen.. made tomato sauce and a double batch of relish, and apple chutney, a few days before Christmas - a place in down-town Tauranga - City Markets - has amazing specials.. and beautiful tomatoes were 99c a kg, limit 5 kg's.. friends bought more for me, and good quality Granny Smith apples were $1.49kg - both were NZ grown.. though toward the end of the year for Granny Smiths they were in good condition.
At the same time they had Hawkes Bay Apricots for $1.49.. the reason for our visit that day.. someday when we travel in the South Island again, it'll be this time of the year, or a little earlier, in central Otago for the stone and pip fruit.. Heaven!

Jenni's Partner's sisters home in Hamilton has a lovely old Billington Plum tree.. Jenni tried them just before coming home for Christmas and texted, 'Mum, yum, just found some of my childhood plums, can't remember what they're called!!' lol.. When in Hamilton last week, we picked a large bag, and I've made plum jam and plum paste.. so delicious. I have a tree growing here, a few years till enough plums to make preserves, can't wait.

I'm preparing my garden for another special gathering here in March/April.. my Son and his Partner here from Melbourne, my Daughter and her Partner from Hamilton, and many others.. really looking forward to seeing them all and being together once more.

Harvesting is continuing from my garden.. ok.. one nectarine off one tree, 6 off another, 3 peaches off one tree (Golden Haze.. like Golden Queen in look and taste, about the same size.. and ripe between Christmas and New Year.. I'm glad I've planted it), 2 blueberries (so far) off one variety, 2 boysenberries, 1 blackberry ( so far) from the vine that is laden with fruit.. Young trees and vines.. their first fruit.. as I said to Jenni, large harvests from small beginnings do happen! Have begun using my onions.. fresh onions are so much nicer, red ones and shallots coming. Lots of beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, though the plants are smaller than usual - we've had unseasonal weather here for a while, so maybe why. Strawberries, alpine strawberries, etc..etc.. Large bunches of grapes are hanging from the pergola I built, an amazing harvest to come from those.. and the other two vines I've grown from cuttings.

It's lovely to be a part of the thread.. to read all of your posts.. :-)

Best wishes for the most fulfilling and inspirational year possible.. :-)

Hugs

Julie

ps.. the picture above was copied from another thread - someone cleverly made this.. thanks to them.. :~)

Morning All.
It's funny what you say about Auckland... I don't find it too bad. I guess its because I live in an older (nice) part of it, near the beach, shop locally, work relatively locally, the children went to school locally... I guess when you have to travel across or into town thats when the problems start... and I don't often which is good. It allows the children to live at home when attending uni, and when we move (thinking positive) it will only be 12 mins to 2 major shopping centres and closer to work. My girls are Aucklanders so I would hate to move away from them, which is why we chose to move "Auckland" rural...... I guess I am an Aucklander lol
We have talked about getting an apartment in the city, part ownership with the girls, will see how that pans out. Miss 19 especially loves the CBD, me I can't think of anything worse... but if I am part owner... I can treat it like a "bach" and they can have their old mum turn up lol.
