I don't have a problem with the price of registered International Mail personally. The peace of mind factor is present .Ebay gets a tracking # ,the buyer pays ,less problems in the resolution centre if none.
Economy Int Courier is a bigger plus ,the only problem with it is when sending a single stamp you have to cut large pieces of cardboard to bulk out the pack.

It is my understanding that the International courier packs can be paid for using postage stamps Gary?
If so that could be handy.
A plus if you have high face value stamps laying around.

Yes, it states on NZ Post website that Courier International & Economy Courier International tracked services can be paid with stamps if GST is added. But not any extra insurance purchased.
The hardest part is explaining all this to Counter staff. Have enough issues sending domestic parcels using stamps.

Some beer labels have been listed on this site. And just in case you jokers missed the final score in the Canterbury / Waikato match the final score is 47 to 10. Yes that right Waikato 10 Canterbury 47.

We not only breed the best rugby players in the country but also develop / improve others from every other part of the country.
And you don't come from Canterbury? Lincoln perhaps ?
And we don't want you back!!!!!!

The point is I am not worried about the penny pincher's on postage.
If the buyer wants it and needs it he will pay the postage no question.
What is the point of worrying about the ones you don't sell when you don't know anything about them anyway?
How many sales did I miss out on because of postage?
Who knows?
God maybe ?
Therefore who cares about nothing?

It could be a "Gremlin" flaw, random small imperfections in the printing process. To be really collectable and have $$$ value they have to be large and eye catching.Small 1mm dots not worth much.
Try and put up a scan.

Don as you well know catalogue prices are one persons opinion of what a perfect example of the listed stamp should sell for. both ACS and len jury also have overheads which mean they need to charge more than others with lower overheads. Often those catalogue producers also sell for 10% under the listed prices or less.
A second grade stamp will and should sell for perhaps 25% at most. i always used the rule of thumb that a poor copy with faults should sell for around 10% of what a fine one would. these days I start my good quality lots on trademe at 40 to 45% of catalogue hoping to get 50%. A stamp with a heavy postmark would perhaps be 25% but it is always relative to supply too. Some stamps are currently in over-supply and others in short supply. Pre-decimal Health miniature sheets in mint are in oversupply (Both MUH and hinged) while fine used sheets with genuine postmarks of the period are in short supply. There are some NZ stamp sheets of the last 10 years which everybody is chasing and nobody has any for sale. Some of these items the catalogue producers haven't cottoned onto yet and so their catalogue prices are too low but generally the catalogue prices are too high. Take care Don.

Donald, as usual you put a weird spin on anything. Trademe hasn't wrecked the catalogue prices, it has merely revealed what a truer market value should be. The printed catalogues need to up their act and give real accurate market prices. The ball is in their court.

What do I do with half a shoe box full of postmarks. The postmarks are on letters and are machine cancels from 1960 to 1980. They have slogans "Use the Post Office Savings Bank" "Sell farms to Servicemen".
Shall I sell as one lot? Selling as individuals would be cringe-worthy.

I purchased some stuff from a major delaer through an auction. I buy to take what I want for my collection and then try and sell whats left to cover my costs. One lot, did very well out of, the rest, paid too much as there was nothign I wanted and did not recover costs.

To date my best buys have been from TM and often buying blind i.e. few photo's for a "collection", which is a real gamble on my part.

I love getting the new parcel and making that "find" of an expensive or rare stamp. Also love it when I am able to sell the left overs for more than paid for the original lot....$1 reserves are a gamble too, but seem to work, no idea if CV will be reached or 50%, 25% etc. I have often sold $1 resevres for more than original listing buy now prices.....but thats buyer psychology for you.

You can have a hobby that pays for itself but be careful.
Don't buy just to re sell.
Start up a separate bank acc just for stamps.
If you buy just for resale you will have IRD on your tail before too long and will classed as a business.
Nothing wrong with buying a collection/lot etc ,taking out what you need for your hobby then flick the rest / rubbish you don't need on Trademe.
But the monies you make off the rubbish can only be used for your hobby needs. If you take Profits out and spend it on say an Ice cream you are then in Business. If you spend the money on more stamps for your Hobby and start the cycle over again it is still a Hobby.
You will be accused from time to time of being a Dealer and you should be paying Taxes,GST etc .
But it is only a Hobby.
Do it smart you are well on the way.

I hope Emirates Team New Zealand win their first race Saturday morning so we can get to the Fair on time. Are you bringing along a TV or will we have to be late? What a decision to make the Stamp fair or the America's Cup! I wonder if NZ post have a "Winners" issue in preparation.

And you were late !!!! and for what?
Can you lay your hands on the blow boat?
Did it win?
Did it make you any money?
Did you get lonely sitting in front of the TV?
We didn't because we were all at the
stamp Fair talking about you.
Plenty of hot air.
If need be we could have turned on the AC, set to Fan.
That would have been more interesting.
Stick to Stamps.
Far more reliable.

You weren't far wrong. Mind you i ended up having a great day at the fair and only ended up about 10 minutes late. i know many of you turn up an hour early to get the bargains but of course many of the bargains didn't turn up until I arrived!

Dunedin stamp collectors are celebrating the 75th Anniversary of their Philatelic society this weekend with a stamp fair open to the public Friday to Sunday 10am to 4pm at the Community Gallery, 20 Princes St next to the Octagon. Local club members and some dealers from as far afield as Christchurch will have tables. A great chance to catch up with and put a face to some of those trademe sellers and buyers.

You have a couple of Local dealers in your area and possibly a Stamp Club.
Google and the Yellow pages are your friends .
