Hello Franny, Hello Twilight :)

im having a really good quilting day yay getting lots done.
Have also listed some auctions, had one watcher on one of them in the first 3 minutes !
Yum Twilight, Franny and i may just gatecrash your dinner sounds so yummy. Franny is Stan home? if not just see if hes left the keys in the garage for the Twilight Express haha not that we know how to drive it like Twilight but hmmm maybe between the two of us hehe lol

Hi Coalie, have just looked over the fence and can see the midnight express in the garage. Will give Stan a shout and get him to take us to Twi's parents for dinner I am sure she can throw a few extra spuds in the dish and I'll get the husband to whip up a cheesecake so that don't arrive empty handed. You can bring the wine and we'll pick you up on the way.

Thats good then Franny so if *Stan* doesnt turn up, you can drive and i will navigate hmmm how do we find Twilights parents place ?

5363

Awww Franny what happened, did *Stan* leave in the Twilight Express without us :(
Perhaps Twilight called him to do the dishes at her parents place - hes good at doing the dishes ;)

coalrange1 - 2010-02-11 21:06:00
5364

Yes that is what must have happened, 'cause one minute the Midnight Express was in the garage and then it was gone so he probably forgot about us and went to do the washing up.

franny8 - 2010-02-11 21:16:00
5365

When doing the quilting i have it rolled up on one side as you do....i hold that part with one hand and the other side with the other hand ok. Hmmm thats right but the hand holding the rolled up side - because its such a little machine - is way toooooooo close to the sewing machine light !!!!! it burnt my hand arghhhh ok so i get a big band-aid extra large tough strip sticking plaster out and put it on the top of my hand - brilliant no more burns :) BUT i just tried to get it off ! Hubby had to hold my skin down as i pulled it - the heat from the light had melted the glue !!!! finally got it off but i do not recommend sticking plaster haha LOL

aaww you guys you missed a great dinner, stan was here doing the dishes, he said he couldnt find you !!

Have fun grocery shopping Twilight :( then sewing yay :)
Im going to finish the quilting today, hehe leaving the light off lol

Morning all. bicycle clips are what you need Coalie. You know the old fashioned kind, you can still buy them, when you roll you quilt to fit on the right hand side of the throat of your machine clip a couple of bicycle clips over it to hold it and you can squeeze the clips to make the fold flatter away from the light and you can just guide the fabric without your hand being near the light. A South African lady in my quilt group gave me some and they work really well for larger quilts.
Yes its easy to see where *Stan's* loyalty lies (why do you put the stars each side of his name? Is it to make him feel more of star than he really is?). He is not much of a star with me at the moment going without us like that. Still as Twi was cooking dinner for the family there were probably lots of dishes so she did need Stan to help with the washing up.
Housework for me today - what fun, ha! ha! NOT. Have a nice day all.

Hi Franny hmmm yes stan doesnt deserve the stars hehe i didnt even give him a capital letter for his name then either haha.
We will have to be careful what we say about him tho cause if he's driving he may tip us out of the Twilight Express and leave us somewhere and it may not be at a fabric shop arghhhhhhhh

Bike clips thankyou i will watch out for some, im going to quilt the quilts i have already made too so they will get alot of use :)

Have a good day Franny even tho its housework. i did the dishes and thats all im doing the rest can wait cause im finishing the quilt ;)

Oh WOW! WOW! Coalie, you are clever, my many attempt at stipple quilting have just ended up either a practice piece thrown in the corner of lots and lots of reverse stitching. Local college is having a one day machine quilting course in May which I am going to enrol for. The class is being taken by a top Auckland quilter who has won loads of prizes for her quilts. Maybe then I can learn to do it as well as you. I always end up with mismatched stitches, some very long and some tiny, just ge the motion right.

5386

Wonder where Liz is, maybe she is making more jam. No she won't be making jam as she would have sent us each a jar. Does anyone know where the new baby is due?

franny8 - 2010-02-12 20:43:00
5387

Hi Franny thankyou for lovely comments, i found the best way to keep the stitches even was to sew fast but move the fabric slow.

That class sounds great, we could all come with you aye, Twilight could bring us up there hehe. I cant do ordinary quilting where you draw the pic on and sew over it, i go off the lines all the time but with this its messy and fun haha lol

Im pretty sure Liz's little boy is due in June, she will let us know if im wrong.

What are you making now Franny ? Im just sewing the binding on oh just remembered hmm i get to handsew the back hmmm :( hehe

Morning all, very hot and humid here, have just put the washing out and now it looks like rain!
Hi Coalie I have still to quilt the diagonal green, pink and blue top. Have everything ready to go but can only do the sandwich at quilt group as I don't have anywhere to do it at home and had to wait my turn to use the big tables at group but can do on Tuesday. Have also sorted out my next machine project, saw a great quilt in a magazine which I can use lots of pieces from my stash for so hope to get that cut out this weekend. Granddaugher is coming today though, washing machine has broke down at her flat so coming to do the washing and is going to treat Grandad and me for fish and chips on the beach - if it doesn't rain.

You are cheeky Twilight, just because we were going to crash your dinner doesnt mean we can crash Frans hmmm but Fran if we can come i could sandwich your quilt and you could handsew my binding hehe wink wink ;)

coalrange1 - 2010-02-13 11:36:00
5395

Hey thats a good idea, I have just given Stan a shout over the fence, he said he was sorry about not picking us up the other night Coalie but he was in a hurry to get down to Twi. Said if Twi can't manage the Twilight Express on her own he will come and pick up and drop you at Howick Beach for fish and chips. Bring your quilt Coalie and I will have the binding handsewn in the flash of an eye.
Nuisance really as I could do it on the carpet but the knees won't stand it, plus the do would want to help so better if I do it at quilt group.
Have just sorted out the fabric for the quilt in the magazine, will post pics to see what you think.

Here are the fabrics and pattern. Have a feeling when I have made some of the blocks might need to introduce a dark red/maroon, what do you think. Trouble is the only red I have doesn't go so might have to buy a fat quarter but will just play it by ear see how it looks as I progress as I have so many bits of fabric I really wanted to use some without buying more. I have idea what I will do around the outside, worry about that later. The pattern is a bit shiny as light has reflected in shiny mag page.

Hello ladies, I've been in here before and you've kindly invited me to stay and chat before. I'm the one doing the bandanna quilts for my fundraising contribution for Relay for Life. Well, they are all done now and I want to add a label on the back of each, saying how and why they were made. What do you suggest would be best - fabric pen?????

I have a plain piece of fabric from the tops of each so I can write on those and hand sew them to the back . . . what do you think?

Any other suggestions, what works for you?
