Morning everyone... Bit chilly this morning. No frost tho. MrP hiding in bed keeping warm lol.
Will look at the email soon lol, Deramores that is lol

I did 6 bits of frosty yesterday. Another 14 to go.

I think my ganglion is regrowing. My wrist is aching like it did the first time. So will add that to my list of, to be checked next time Im at the drs lol. I have the wrist wrapped as it helps and a mitten on it. They told me when they took it out years ago that theres a 95% chance of another growing.. Stupid things. Five of us that I know of with them in the family.

Have a good day everyone.. Just going to be a quiet one here

Oops I ended up ordering from Deramores. Up to 60% off in some cases, why wouldn't you.
Getting 18 balls of wool for $38.. plus postage. Postage is cheaper than us travelling to spotlight.

she will enjoy those vivz2. I recently knitted some hand warmers for my self. Just started a pair for my girlfriend who saw mine on the weekend.
They are so handy so go ahead and do a pair for yourself too.

They are lovely Vivz2. Ive got a mitten on my aching hand at the mo. sure helps keeps the aches at bay
Im not fond of things on my arms below my elbows but the mittens I seem to cope with. They only got from an inch below my wrist to the top of the palm of my hand.
Best bit is I can still knit and crochet with them on lol

Just got in from my afternoon out and according to the digital thermometer in town, it's only 12 degrees. Lovely and cosy indoors, the fire's been going all day. And all that lovely hot water for free!

kuaka - 2014-07-22 17:10:00
5363

Its 9.5 outside here and 16.2 inside. Im just on the chilly side.

I think if we had a fire it would be going more often than not. But neither of us like turning the heater on lol.

popeye333 - 2014-07-22 17:30:00
5364

We both feel the cold, he even more than me, but not feeling the cold at the moment - 28 degrees sitting alongside the woodfire. Maybe stacking all the wood on Saturday was worthwhile!

Do you think this little lot will keep me going for a while? This is the bulk of my latest Deramores order, all 100gm, all acrylic. Still got 3 balls to come.

http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/full/325221625.jpg

Decided to splurge on some acrylic for baby knitting - won't need to buy any more for a while methinks.

morning :) lovely kuaka! You're going to be busy for a while :)

It is freezing here this morning, I suspect the snow on the Kaimai Ranges will still be there.

Not a lot of knitting going on here but I seem to be busier than ever. So tonight I am going to knit a bit more to my scarf, don't want it to be an unfinished project!

Hope everyone is warm and dry today, happy knitting :)

Morning
The yarn pile looks great Kuaka.
Another freezing cold day here. Have to have the car in town at 9 so had better wrap up well as might have to wait a bit, but thats ok as have to hunt out some buttons for several things awaiting them.

Am gradually getting the slippers dry by using the hair dryer on them and that seems to help a lot, I really should make them in summer only but people don't seem to think about slippers then. I used to have a stock pile but now only make them for family and friends when they request them.

Keep warm everyone.

It's cold and foggy here this morning, heat pump is on and the fire will be soon, (I'm a bit short of kindling and the tea tree doesn't seem to respond too well to fire lighters, it's hard to get going but I have some flame so it won't be long now, then the heat pump can go off - the woodfire is much better when it's really cold).

Yes, my stash certainly got a boost yesterday. The stuff with the "twinkle" is lovely and so is the stuff which is slightly coloured. Can't wait to start using some of it, but meantime it's just in a huge plastic bag on the sewing room floor. I'll have to find a home for it as there's no room in the sewing room for it, there's not enough room in there for all the sewing stuff.

Knit and natter today. I started a top down baby cardi last night, just so I would have something "no think" (or not much think) to take with me. Last week I kept going wrong on the thing I was knitting and spent as much time unknitting as I did knitting. Very annoying. And my mohair and merino blanket is getting a bit big to lug along. I'll take it along and show the others when it's finished (and I'll put a pic on here) but that's a way to go yet - I'm almost halfway through the yarn.

Would love to see a pic of your slippers when they're finished jayemtoo. When you felt them, do they shrink very much? How do you gauge how big to make them, so that they fit?

Well better put some wood on the fire now, it's going quite well.

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone.. Im thinking Happy Birthday Carole.I saw somewhere last week you said it was coming soon.
Fine here so I have washing on. I have more energy today thank goodness.

Missy has just found the hand basin. She is doing soo much of what our Millie used to its scary.

Ive decided I need to knit a home cardy. I have a couple of long line cardies, and one normal but that's getting terribly tight on the arms. Thanks to mums side of the family I have batwings. So I need something just a bit loser.

Love the yarns Kuaka. I find the twinkles, variegated and ones with silver threads through them too tempting. That's what Ive gone for in my order too. And a couple of blues.

Have got one part of the scarf to do, some wee buttons/balls and the santa sack and stocking to do for Frosty and then Ill put him together

Have a good day everyone

Hi ladies. Hope everyone is keeping warm and Happy B'day Carole if today is the day. I needed something quiet and not too strenuous to do today so pulled all the plastic bags of wool and fabric and random knitting books out of my hall cupboard to sort through. You know, I used to get frustrated with my hoarder Mum who would start to go through her stashes (mainly in my bedroom) and promptly park her butt and read old English woman's weekly's.

Well, so the underfloor heating is on and guess who has been parked on the hall floor doing a similar thing with my knitting books etc. I reckon I've found the warmest spot in the house...so sorry Mum, I take it all back lol!

Yes it is CaroleV's birthday. I was talking too her last night. I hope she got the present she was hoping for.
I am not getting much knitting done as am struggling to break in my new glasses.

GMS I did NOT get want I wanted for my birthday, all I got was a sack of spuds from daughter, Mr T did not even wish me happy birthday. feeling sad now

carolev - 2014-07-23 17:44:00
5379

The spuds are practical Carole, and at least your daughter didn't forget.

I always remind MrP about my birthday. I get my own presents. Or Id not get one.
You gotta do for yourself and make the most of it.

Don't be upset or angry. Take action and make plans for yourself, don't rely on others who will let you down

popeye333 - 2014-07-23 18:04:00
5380

I found that out the hard way popeye. I didnt remind anyone at work about my birthday this year and not one person said anything.
I took the lollie's home again that I had taken in
I always remember birthdays ( 9/10 times anyway lol) and its like a kick in the guts when I get nothing back.

whiskey13 - 2014-07-23 18:13:00
5381

Yep a lot of people get wrapped up in their own lives and simply forget.

Being a Bull (Taurus) I make sure I remind people. Always have done lol.. Heck even my Twin forgot this year.

I decided many longs ago , that if I didn't look after myself and my birthday no one else will. So I always get myself something.

I do like surprises tho.

popeye333 - 2014-07-23 18:19:00
5382

Well my other half has always been brilliant about remembering my birthday (can't say I've always been thrilled with the present, but he has always remembered - and it is the thought that counts!) but this year seeing as he can hardly stagger down the stairs and can't drive, I know I won't be getting anything. I usually treat myself to a present, both Christmas and birthday - at least that way you know you get something you want - and at the end of the day, it is just another day really. I mean, you are probably the only one who thinks your day is special, the rest of the world couldn't give a stuff. So if he forgot your birthday, then just reciprocate, and forget his.

kuaka - 2014-07-23 19:23:00
5383

I like to take am tea to work for my birthday then every one gets a lift in their day and its a tradition practised by quite a few at work. Its just another day really...

I bough myself a present and daughter helped me unrap it, bought a new sewing machine 4th one this year,

Happy Birthday Carole - great that at least you could buyt yourself a presnt of something you wanted.

Here are some photos of the slippers Kuaka I have patterns for toddlers - about 2 year old to large men's feet but I also like to get the length of foot for the person I am making them for and during the felting I can push and pull them into shape and they also mould to the fee tonce worn. The do shrink quite a lot I have taken a photo of my feet before and after felting on some I have made for a nephew. Only make them for family and friends and that is enough, had 2 more requests this week but will have to wait until warmer weather to make them so will be for next winter.

Wow jayemtoo, they shrink quite a bit don't they. Do you use two strands of double knit pure wool? They look very much like the ones I saw on ravelry and liked the look of. Might have to try these for myself, but I'll think about them for next winter. I'll concentrate on my blankets to see me out the rest of the winter.

kuaka - 2014-07-23 20:53:00
5387

morning ladies :) Happy birthday for yesterday carole :)

Wow jayemtoo, I love those slippers. Felting is on my 'to-do' list which seems to be growing longer and longer!

I've sewn the beads onto the dragon and have begun lacing it to a board so didn't get any knitting done last night. I've also had some quotes for framing... OMG!!! But one framer has quoted me for some old stock at a reasonable price so might go with that. I've tried to find the 'perfect' frame from the local op/charity shops to recycle but found nothing.

Will try and get some knitting done again tonight!

happy knitting :)

Morning all
Do you do your own framing Kiwimade. Never done my own framing As not sure I would get it straight enough but very expensive to get it done professionally.

The pattern is for 2strands of 10 ply but I tend to use a variety of wool to add up to about 20 - 24 ply this time I used some jumbo wool I had been given but couldn't find what ply it was so added some 8 ply as well -it was a bit thicker than usual so should wear well. It has to be non machine washable wool as you do everything you are taught not to do with wool to felt it - bash it in the washing machine in hot water.

The sun is out and no wind so looks like a nice day ahead I do not like the icy wind we have had so far this week.

Off to get car serviced this am. Then hopefully some knitting this pm

Have a good day

morning all. well if I wrote to someone do you think they would take 23rd july out of the calender. I now hate my birthdays, family forget me . only thing I got this year was a sake of spuds from youngest daughter and 2 card from my sweet grandkids. well have a sewing class today so off to set up

happy birthday for yesterday Carole. invigorating is one word to use grandmasue1, its -2 lovely day, no snow and no rain. Was good and haven't ordered any wool, the last lot I got I couldn't find space for it, so holding off for a while. I'll just share in the pleasure you all got from yours lol.

raej2 - 2014-07-24 09:01:00
5391

Morning all. Carole Id be wrapped to have two grandies remember my birthday. MrP has approx. 10 grandies who 8 of them probably don't even know he exists. We only know 2 of them. but none of his family remember his birthday.
I used to love doing a shout at work for the girls. Maybe Ive just always been excited about my birthdays and do for myself. self sufficient I guess. And when the target in our family to live to is 41, birthdays are important. Three of us have well passed that now, so I consider the Hoodoo gone now. (dad died at 40, my sister at 38 and brother at 40)

Off to Pukekohe this morning. I have oodles to do, Several places to go for one thing basically lol. And Im not going to window shop. I know the warehouse has half price wool but I wont even look.

Have to finish the santa sack then I had 3 wee buttons and a couple of patches to do on frosty. So that should be done tonight. Yay.

Have an awesome day everyone.

popeye333 - 2014-07-24 09:13:00
5392

Sunny this morning, I've just noticed fog right at the top of the harbour and am just hoping it's not rolling towards us, there's no wind so hopefully it won't get this far.

Plan is to go for a walk later than usual so we can call in at the farmer's market for fresh veg. They have the most gorgeous celery, it's almost sweet. Never tasted anything like it. Usually have broccoli like footballs at a reasonable price, not like the broccoli at Countdown which is often the size of a large Brussel sprout.

I made a little top down baby top yesterday and just have to find buttons for it. I weighed it and it says exactly 50gm and I have exactly 50gm left out of the ball. I wonder what the chances are that I actually have enough to do a second one. I'd hate to be 6 inches short when casting off.

20 - 24 ply - I think I would only be able to do a few rows at a time, so it would take me quite a while to knit a pair, but I might have a go sometime. Sort out all the wool that looks as though it would shrink. I've never had any trouble shrinking wool before when I've spent weeks knitting something and then bingo it shrinks first time you wash it.

Right breakfast time (I was late getting up).

Have a super day everyone, and enjoy your knitting.

5393

What size needles would you knit 20-24 ply on Jayemtoo? I wouldn't be able to handle it.. I don't even like doing chunky or Aran lol.

Home from town. what a mixed up trip that was.

Bumped into my lovely old lady friend from down the road. she has been unwell and went to hospital a couple of weeks ago. She has cancer. Came as a huge shock to me... shes like a grandmother to me. Is 86 so she has had a good innings, and as she said you have to die of something. but it totally shocked me. Sitting in the medlab bawling my head off.
Shes normally as fit as a fiddle, walks their wee dog several times a day.

I don't do my own framing kuaka although MrK has just begun to make frames out of recycled rimu offcuts. This dragon though needs a fairly ornate frame I think but I am hoping MrK can make frames for the next one and for another I have all laced up for our granddaughter.

Housework then I can knit! Been a stunning day here today.

happy knitting :)

Had a real beautiful day weather-wise here not a breeze and sunny so quite warm in the sun, what a change from yesterday.

So sorry to hear of your friend Popeye news like that is always a shock.

I use 9mm needles Popeye they are knitted partly in the round so have used double pointed ones in the past but this time used a circular needle and what an improvement will never use the double pointed ones again for slippers, must admit it is rather like knitting with fence posts and rope after usually doing baby things.

sewed buttons on 2 little puerperium tops I knitted for a friend who is expecting twin great-grandaughters. Friend has arthritis in both hands and can't knit so was delighted to get them.

Now plodding on with jersey for 3year old, seems so big after doing newborn sizes.

Hi all, one of the ladies from work has leant me some books of Jean Greenhowe's.
I will photocopy the patterns. I have got heb ooks of the scottish scarecrow family, the red nose gang, tradesmen clowns, forty fund raising novelties, 7 knitted dolls and baby's pushchair and 10 dolls with knitted display stands.
They are all double knit.
I dont understand 1 thing. For eg it says inc k wise into every st, why not just cast the right amount to start off with? Also inc k wise is that like casting on stitches? Or is it something different again?
I have nearly finished the blanket I am crocheting and then I am going to do a scarecrow painter.
