It was foggy driving up at 5 30 this morning which is a lot better than the rain. I starting crocheting the front of a quilt for a grand daughter. She wants different square motifs backed and then padding. It is to be her Christmas present so I can work on it between other things lol. My 5 year old piped up and said "We'll actually I was thinking of a quilt for my present but I don't want it crocheted because Nana has already done lots of blankets and rugs for me" . Talk about keeping up with her 17 year old cousin. She is undecided about the style and colour at the moment. Told me she has to think about it. Lol. The hospital needs more stuff for the premi babies and those little darlings that pass away. So I will work on some clothing for them. My daughter often dresses them, being a Midwife she has some very sad experiences as she works with all the problematic deliveries. She has a 12 hour shift today and tomorrow so she will be shattered by Monday. We have another birthday party to attend today which is easy, just take the present and go .ho ho. makerealbany - 2013-05-11 06:49:00
So sad to lose a baby. We have had grandparents in the shop on occasion looking for outfits to dress baby in. grizzly4 - 2013-05-11 07:22:00
You are getting braver grizzly. Good on you girl. Just got back from the party. So many children I must have been mad lol. The thing is that K misses out if his Mummy is working and I can not let that happen. makerealbany - 2013-05-11 17:14:00
There should be Nana awards!! grizzly4 - 2013-05-11 17:54:00
well my husbands neices baby who was 810g at birth is now 1560 g yeah he is a big boy now a whole 3lb, he just had an op for a heart murmer and later when he is stronger has to have an op on his bowel, poor little mite. suzy59nz - 2013-05-11 20:22:00
Well I hope you girls had a lovely Mothers Day I have had a fab day. Brunch at the Puhoi Cheese Factory. So yummy. Heaps of presses and cheeses to take home. Just maxing out while Mr 19 takes his little brother to the park. Mums at work. She had to go straight after brunch sigh. makerealbany - 2013-05-12 16:22:00
Grizzly there are lots of wallies on TM . Sometimes you wonder if it is worth it. makerealbany - 2013-05-12 16:23:00
Yes you are right Suzy. I feel the same. Some pregnant woman use their pregnancy as another way to get out of doing what they should. My neighbours sister is just like that . She is driving my neighbour nuts. makerealbany - 2013-05-12 16:26:00
I had dreadful morning sickness all day for 7 months so I feel sorry for anyone that goes through that. grizzly4 - 2013-05-13 07:03:00
I am struggling to choose the right clothes to wear each day. I froze yesterday because I dressed for the fine day forecast but the sun never appeared all day. It was miserable. I'm powering through the wee jacket but I have 2 prs lemon bootees to do to match the pink ones as well. Thank goodness the meeting tonight has been cancelled - too cold, too dark and too much knitting to do. LOL. grizzly4 - 2013-05-14 07:23:00
I love that comment too cold, too dark etc lol. Mum is now back home thank heavens. Bought 2 new tyres for my car yesterday but have a small hole in muffler now. If its not one thing it's another ha ha. I had morning sickness with one of my sons for 7 months as well grizzly. Funny how time lessens the memories lol. I change my clothes during the day but its easier for me not having to work. I just have to tidy myself up to go and get M from school so I dash to the cottage and change usually with one or two kids in Tow. I have to be so organised with the time schedule sigh. My Sil just rang to say he is working all week. Bugger. Ah we'll. I was too tired to do anything much last night. Had to go and see the GP at her request. Referrals for this and that. Last 3 tests Tom, Thurs and Friday then a two week wait. I might eat some red meat on Friday night lol. makerealbany - 2013-05-14 13:23:00
Those tests sound very complicated if they involve what you eat as well. I remember Dad had lots of joint pain about 20 years ago and ended up seeing a Chinese Doctor who took cabbage and rhubarb completely out of his diet and he never looked back. Shame that doctor's not around to see him now, I feel so awful for him being so restricted in terms of walking because of his feet. grizzly4 - 2013-05-14 19:48:00
Off to Hands Ashford Craft Village in Ashburton this morning with the women's group. Yippee! grizzly4 - 2013-05-15 07:25:00
Hope you have fun grizzly. There are 6 children with Hand, Foot and Mouth at Preschool so J has been home for 2 days. Getting M to school by 8 30 with the lousy traffic and. Her grumpy little brother in tow was not easy. Lol. Then I had to come home and sort things. Back out again to do test one. J would not have a nap when we got home so he is even grumpier. Have to pick up M from sports after school at 4 15 so I hope to be home by 5 late bath time tonight. It will be an easy tea as well. K arrives at 6 so it is all go here. Not much crafting though. Lol makerealbany - 2013-05-15 13:07:00
Sounds exhausting! I think I'll stick to going to work. LOL. grizzly4 - 2013-05-16 07:31:00
They are a good Charity lol. At this point in time I have K's mother at the Emergency Clinic finished her shift and could hardly move as well as vomiting and a pounding headache. My Dil is at home throwing up and so is little E. My son can not get a flight today from Welli so my other daughter is leaving work early to come home so I can go to my sons. I did read a craft magazine late last night but that was it. I have 12 kilos of tomatoes to make relish and I hope I can get that done sat morn or they will go off. I don't like freezing them for relish. My car needs a clean but it won't fall apart by sat so I'm trying to ignore all the funny looks at the Preschool and School. Ha ha. makerealbany - 2013-05-16 13:24:00
I hope you don't get whatever bug they have!!!!!!! Last thing you need. grizzly4 - 2013-05-17 07:16:00
Lol you are really creative and I am sure the Giraffe cake will be a hit ha ha. I am using sanitisers flat out lol. I have planned a crafty weekend and I intend to have one lol. Going to put my heat pump on and sit back and watch the Voice tonight. It is pouring here so no guilt attached to the weeds that need pulling. makerealbany - 2013-05-17 16:42:00
I enjoy the Voice, too. Some very talented people aren't there? The beautiful giraffe handpuppet I bought for the top of the cake cost more than his actual present in the end! LOL. The plan (if it works) is to use the tube from inside my gladwrap to get it to sit on the cake and then put some greenery around with the candles of course. grizzly4 - 2013-05-18 07:12:00
That sounds really cool. A baked K a fish cake for his birthday and then she couldn't get the darn cake out of the tin. It was an aluminium fish shaped tin. She sprayed it well before use so she was gutted. That expensive tin has gone to the sand pit lol. So we have a barney tin. Same company so we are going to experiment with that one. A had. To rush and buy a cake for K as she had run out of time. Usually I cook the cake but she is getting to be a great baker so I most willing stood back ha ha. I have my grand daughter miss 17 here studying for an exam. It is full at her house and she like me wants peace and quiet away from little ones. Ha ha. She told me to relax and she will do our meals. So my knitting is close and my Tv is calling me. Have a nice day. makerealbany - 2013-05-18 11:45:00
L6 loved his cake and his watch. Miserably cold and wet down here, can't play in my garden so going to make vege soup for tea and I. making cheese and herb bread to go with it. Yum, yum. grizzly4 - 2013-05-19 10:58:00
I ended up cooking muffins and a casserole to put three meals away in the freezer for those rushed nights. J wants a black scarf so started that this arvo. Finished another rug yesterday and 2 little beanies. Went to Spotlight to finally get my quilting needles for the machine to finish K's quilt. $13and then $4 for the hand ones. I picked out 7 half metre lots of quilting material for a NZ themed quilt. I used my spend $100 and get $40 off voucher which was great. The NZ themed material is normally $20a metre which is why I wait for my voucher plus I got another 30 percent off. I got the wool for J 's scarf because I have used up all my black 8ply. Teenagers love black ugh.I hate knitting it at night . I also got some children's themed material that was very cheap. After that I went to a cafe and had lunch all by myself. I was enjoying myself until I noticed this weird looking guy watching me. Yuk I just stared back at him and he looked away. The one advantage about maturing is you are more experienced to deal with creeps ha ha. makerealbany - 2013-05-19 18:34:00
my daughter has hand, foot and mouth, most of the babies in the nursery have it and R was told adults couldln't get it, guess she has proven them wrong. Its a virus and there is no stand down for it, the children can still attend and infect everyone else, crazy. she has sopts on her hands and feet but not her mouth thank goodness. I had never heard of it before she started working as a pre school teacher. suzy59nz - 2013-05-19 20:00:00
I was concerned about J with his having had Kawasakis. He can still get reoccurrences of that darn desease and then he is wide open to anything. My daughter reckons he is as strong as a little ox now lol I still worry and over think things. I had never heard of it either Suzy until my baby granddaughter got it last year. Awful. A lot of parents kept their children home from preschool but they were most likely already exposed. makerealbany - 2013-05-19 23:14:00
B4 had it last year as well. We've had a child away from one of our programmes with croup which I haven't heard of in years. I finished the hoody jacket, a prem beanie and matching bootees over the weekend and started my DIL's black beanie. She wanted one like I knitted for her son's for Easter. I also have another order for wee sox. Mmmmm, a lot of different things on the needles unfinished. LOL. grizzly4 - 2013-05-20 07:13:00
What a day, apparently the cleaner told my Sil 2 weeks ago that she had seen evidence of a mouse in their 4 door linen closet. Well she told me the other day I told him again. Anyway at the weekend my daughter saw a mouse in the cupboard screamed and yelled especially when she found out Sil had been told. So everything in that cupboard which takes up a wall in the hallway has to be washed. I made him ( under protest) take the duvet inners and thick blankets to the laundry mart so they could wash them. I washed 3 bags today and there are about 14 to go. Sigh. None of the washing on the line got dry today. I did two loads in the dryer but as M is still at home I was too tired to do anything else. I am sitting in my cottage relishing the peace and quiet lol. Might have a frozen dinner and knit that scarf. makerealbany - 2013-05-20 17:03:00
Yuck, yuck, yuck. What a job at this time of the year! Doing laundry is my favourite household chore but even I might be over it by 14 bags. LOL. grizzly4 - 2013-05-21 07:38:00
Hi not sure if this will work, but here goes. looking at opening a craft type shop in the foxton area anyone out there interested? would like more of a cooperative style shop. alley alley6 - 2013-05-21 10:12:00
Down to 6 bags now grizzly phew. Thank heavens they have a large washing machine and a big dryer lol. I got myself some more quilting books on TM . If my daughter decides not to go back to work after she finishes this jobI will have heaps of crafts to do and heaps of time. I wish!!!!!! She finishes in 2 months 1 week. Can you tell I am counting ha ha. She has been there for over 14 years. They have split her job and have created 4 vacancies as they do not have anyone internally who can do what she did. Ha. They did not want her to leave and no wonder but a huge salary and all the stress and long hours just did not appear attractive to her anymore. She wants to spend more time with her family. That is a lot more important than anything else. makerealbany - 2013-05-21 14:50:00
Hi Alley it's a pity I live in Auckland. Grizzly is the whizz at the kind of shop you are keen to start. Good luck. makerealbany - 2013-05-21 14:52:00
Thanks makerealbany! not really getting a lot of feedback on this! but I will keep trying!! alley6 - 2013-05-21 23:42:00
Hi Alley6! Good on you for giving it a go. As well as being a member of the Purple Patch I also work for a community organisation. From experience I have learned that new ideas don't take off over night. You may be lucky to just get a couple of other people interested to start with. Are you advertising elsewhere? Community newspapers, radio stations, school newsletters, community centres are good to start with. If there is just a few of you to start with start selling at local markets, stalls at malls etc to make yourself visible and start talking to people. If you don't mind public speaking go to places where women meet - plunket, kindy's, community organisations. Ask local doctor's, practice nurses to support you by mentioning it to patients. The therapeutic aspect of doing craft is not recognised enough. Start small and it will happen, word of mouth is absolutely the most effective. Unless you have lots of money or a free shop don't worry about setting up like that too soon. Nothing worse than a half empty shop but a full stall looks great! Keep in touch and good luck. grizzly4 - 2013-05-22 07:25:00
Thanks for that grizzly, a lot of good advice! What a shame you guys are so far away! alley6 - 2013-05-22 08:50:00
You could check in with the Purple Patch in Tauranga and I think there is another up north somewhere as well. They are quite separate organisations but run on similar lines. grizzly4 - 2013-05-23 07:26:00
Took my car for a warrant and it needs work ugh. Never mind my grandson is sussing out the prices of parts. He has heaps of contacts. Lol oh to be young again. I get a 5 dollar discount at the testing station with my gold card. The young guy looked at his boss and they both stared at me and then checked my name against the rego. The boss grinned and said " You don't look old enough for a gold card " Made my day lol. Got a flat out weekend ahead babysitting Friday night Sat, Saturday night and Sunday. Certainly keeps me busy ha ha. Scarf is coming along. I am not that keen on smaller needles ha ha. makerealbany - 2013-05-23 18:46:00
One more day and I'm on holiday!!!!!! Yay and the things I have planned include an AGM for the shop, doctor's appointment for I. as his other knee has been hurt at work now, organising shop fittings we need, and going to I's brother's wedding in Blenheim. Probably have more fun if I stay at work. LOL. grizzly4 - 2013-05-23 19:29:00
What are you doing working on your Holiday grizzly? The Wedding sounds good though lol. I have 2 little munchkins asleep in my cottage. Even their dog is here. Ha ha He is only little so he doesn't take up much room but my cat has the sulks. I will have a couple of hours to run to the Supermarket in the morning and then 3 Other grandchildren will arrive in the afternoon for the night. Managed to get some knitting done tonight. Lovely day today but cool out now. makerealbany - 2013-05-24 22:34:00
Full house! And no I'm not looking forward to the wedding at all. It's in the garage and everyone but I. and me smoke. I'm terrified I will be up all night coughing and I'm staying at Mum and Dad's as usual. I hate disturbing them. Only good thing is I'm not worried about what to wear. LOL. grizzly4 - 2013-05-25 10:52:00
Well I had J and M from Friday night until 9.30 Sat morning. I managed to clean up and go to the Supermarket. Shouldn't go when one is hungry lol Cost me a fortune. J and E arrived at 3.30 and were picked up at 12 today. I cleaned up and then drove up to the beach to mind K until 8.30 tonight. My grandson J who is 10 asked me for wool while he was with me. He is knitting blankets for his little sisters. I was delighted to ruffle through my stash with him. My Sil was really impressed I'm sure ha ha. I brought all my washing up here as I have so much linen with all these children sleeping over. My daughter has a huge machine thank heavens. K has gone with his uncle shopping so I have a load of washing in and now I am going to knit. Yippee. Shame about the wedding grizzly. Saturday Agms should be banned. Lol makerealbany - 2013-05-26 13:30:00
AGM over, still Treasurer. Beautiful day yesterday so I spent some of it in the garden harvesting cabbage, rhubarb and carrots and then the rest sitting in the sun finishing my book. If you get a chance read 'Naomi's Wish' by Rachael Herron. Every knitter should read this one! EQC has finished with shop so moving back to full use of our building today. grizzly4 - 2013-05-27 07:05:00
Hurrah for the building completion grizzly. It is most likely easier being the Treasurer or is it? I had a great day yesterday. Went and had a much needed haircut and once again I had to show my Gold card to get my 5 dollar discount. Lol got my eyebrows done and bought two new dresses. I wore a new pair of shoes. Duh big mistake. One foot was throbbing by the time I got home.when will I learn. Short bursts ha ha. My granddaughter wants a matching beanie to go with her scarf for her birthday in 3 weeks and. Now my two grandsons want the long scarves as well knitted on 4 m needles. They all like the finer look Nan Ah well boring but easy. Got some quilting needleson TM much cheaper than the amount I paid in Spotlight and good quality too. So I have enough to last for ages. There was thunder strong enough to shake the house before school drop off M hid under the table and took some reassuring to get her out. My neighbours 3 children did the same. Explained it wasn't an earthquake but still it was scary for them. I guess it is freezing down there. Be careful on the road when you are driving. makerealbany - 2013-05-28 10:09:00
Wow there's some names from the past! How are you guys, doing? I did 4 hours changing the shop back yesterday morning. Hurt my hip and my neck again. #%*#. I. went to the doctor as planned and he has been given 28 days off and has to have xrays before seeing the surgeon for this second knee. Trouble is when he rang to make appointment the surgeon is busy till end of July! He loves spending money so of course we have a few bills to pay and I'm terrified that ACC isn't going to be as easy as it was 5 years ago when he hurt the other one. It never rains but it pours. Worry, worry, worry. Seems to be all I do the last 5 years between husbands in surgery, and then having his breakdown and earthquakes. grizzly4 - 2013-05-28 10:27:00
Bugger about your hip and neck grizzly and I having time off again for his knee. You know that saying " It never rains but it pours" I was thinking the same thing on the weekend but I feel much better now. Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel gets a bit dim lol. I just unloaded the car. The last bags of laundry that I made my Sil take to the laundry were picked up by him yesterday and were still in there this morning grrrr. Darn heavy too. makerealbany - 2013-05-28 10:38:00
Shame you needed the car! I would have been tempted to leave them for him. The sun is shining today thank goodness, makes the world seem a whole light brighter. grizzly4 - 2013-05-29 10:04:00
Yes it is a lovely sunny day here as well. J has a bad cold. I had to dress him in warmer clothes before I brought him home yesterday grrr. He has a bag full of clothes and there are not many children in his part of Preschool and two workers. He had on a damp top. I know they have water play but really. makerealbany - 2013-05-29 10:37:00
Lovely clear morning driving up today. My daughter took the day off because J has groop and K has it as well but my other girl being the sole parent has to work. K is fine with Nana nursing him lol. Brought my knitting up for when he naps. He does that often if he is unwell. Hard to believe he is 4 now. Apparently that is the latest viral trick going around the Playcentre sigh. Saw a great recipe for Lemon face scrub so thought I would make some tonight and Vanilla as well. I have made lemon curd and heaps of marmalade but I still have lemons. Also saw this cool kids project for hand painting sox on the bottom with fabric paint. M will love that one. Non slip sox. She is a really good artist unlike her Nana lol. makerealbany - 2013-05-30 06:44:00
I meant croup. Poor little guy is vomiting and all. They gave him prendizone to help with his breathing . makerealbany - 2013-05-30 11:54:00
Now the GP says it is whooping cough and there are 2 confirmed cases at Preschool. J has not had his whooping cough vaccination because of the Kawasakis the specialist said he cannot have it until he is 6. He is better although he coughs so hard he panics and then vomits. Afterwards he is running around like his normal busy little self lol. makerealbany - 2013-05-31 18:28:00
Not a bad day here. Quite mild which is nice. I have been looking at all the lovely garments from our online Crochet club. There are so many talented people out there. Bought some more quilting material from TM slap, slap ha ha. One big bonus being a single girl you never have to explain your purchases or your stashes lol. I always say that when I am cash strapped I will always have things to make. Even if I live to be 100 ho ho. Hope all is well grizzly. makerealbany - 2013-06-01 10:12:00
Fantastic day. Sunny and warm. Washing out yip yip. Might even get the lawns mowed. Have to wait until my grandson emerges from his den, eats and tries to make excuses for the reason he cannot mow the lawns. I shall be on his case. My granddaughter is at work or she would mow them. Powerful women here lol. Being crafty with K. He wants to bake again. I have had to make paper tracks for his cars. He has plastic ones but "the ones you make are better Nana Lol. Maybe you are away grizzly or your computer is down but I will keep our thread going just as you have in the past. Lol. makerealbany - 2013-06-02 10:46:00
