More than likely been used for a Telegraph and not therefore Fiscally used. It does decrease the value even though it can be seen as postally used.Approx value $10.00.
I stand to be corrected.

Definitely fiscal. You can just make out the pen cancel that has been bleached out.

Great turnout yesterday .Standing room only at times but that time spent networking . I am going again today to try and feed the habit.
It is great to put a name to face that is normally a Trademe name or an Email/Postal address.

Quite right, NO powder whatsoever should be put on stamps.
When the moisture content is too high too long and without being aired powder in fact retains the moisture and your stamps will soon bloom with fungi.
Stamp Albums should be aired regulary afterall.the hobby must live.
1 Kg Silica Gel satchels is great but should also be dried out (expelling water content) at least twice a year depending on the moisture content of the air around your stamps.
Renew the toned Album with a new one and also remove the toned stamps as they will contaminate your new album if kept in the same spot as the previous album.

The only good use of powder is that insects like fishmoths do not like powder, it iinterferes which their breathing mechanism and baby powder smells good which sprinkeled in the niches NOT on your Album.

Newbie collector seeking advice, be patient with me: Inverted watermarks on NZ stamps. I'm having trouble understanding what it is I should be looking for. I think I've figured out that a normal watermark is a horizontal "mirror image" ZN. Therefore, is it right to assume that an inverted watermark is any that is not a horizontal "mirror image" ZN? I'm sure this will have been discussed before but there are just too many posts to search through them all.

The best explanation for watermasrks is found in major catalogues with even more detail in the Campbell Patterson edition.

Inverted refers to an upside down watermark when viewed on the back.
Write NZ opn a piece of paper and hold it upside down you get ZN. But because you view it on the back you would get NZ (reversed) looking at the position of the star would also be helpful.

Hi team.
I have a large collection of stamps accumulated over 30 years or more.
Many are in folders some dating back to mid 1800's as the image of Victoria shows her as a younger women.
There are some with advertising on the back.
They were collected over periods of my life when I went on extreme collecting tangents as those who know me well will tell you.
I believe there are some very valuable stamps in the collection. Some I paid hundreds of dollars and over $1,000 for as recent as 10 years ago.
So do I break them up or sell them as one lot?
My collecting life has changed dramatically over the past 10 years and I now pretty much focus on sporting memorabilia.

At present I am selling most of my NZR collectibles, yet another tangent I set upon a few years ago.

My preference would be to let them all go as one lot.

Knowledge is King and money.
Take your stamps to a local Dealer or stamp club and ask for advice one that comes to mind is Don White in Dunedin, others could be closer.
Breaking it up yourself with a bit of work on your part will reap rewards.
On the other hand the quick money option is to sell the lot a once and will more than likely have less financial gain.

There is an advert in our local paper , The Timaru Philatelic Society has a Stamp Fair this Saturday 10th Aug at the Red Cross Hall 10am to 3pm. It says stamps, coins and valuations. It maybe of interest for some of you.

o.k. any hints or tips on best method to remove self adhesive from paper - old fashioned warm water in a bowl still best? or does anyone have a better technique.

I believe you can use something called "Shellite" which is similar to lighter fluid.

Its certainly of interest to me. i'll be coming down from Christchurch for the event which should be popular considering the big turn out for the previous Timaru Fair in February. its good to see that they have better hours than last time as many people missed out in February when the Fair closed at midday. Extending it to 3pm makes far more sense.

I have used Fuelite - you can get it at hardware stores, it is the modern equivalent to white spirits basically, however I have also used good old zippo lighter fluid. Both work the same way with the same results.

Got a phone call from Wellington Airport at 3.05pm from the dealer who was stuck there while they checked the run way. Not very often in the last couple of years you can say coming to Christchurch to get away from earthquakes. Hope all are safe.

Arrived in Picton on Friday 16 after a few days in Christchurch.

Really sad to still see al the damaged houses and empty office blocks and lots of parking area at a price. I suppose it boils down to money..
Was in hearing distance of the Hagley Park shooting incidents too.

In Picton I picked up a bad case of gout in my right foot and when the 14.30 quack struck I would not have been able to get under whatever in time. Then the continuous aftershocks left us 'sleeping' in our lothing.
I with one painful foot amd my wife with one eye open waiting for the next rattle & roll.
Wellington was.pretty much normal on Saturday and traffic and flights normal. I thought of ridding a horse in Picton along the coast but what if it got spooked by a quack and broke my other foot.

Was a pleasant adventure, nothing unforseen - back to the stamps.
