Yep I did thanks Carol. Can I ask in the future that you pop them in a plastic bag then the box etc. Cos we have got silly posties on at the mo, who don't think of the rain and leave things in the news paper shoot of the mailbox. Luckily MrP saw the postie coming today so all was well.
Pretty colours thank you.

Morning everyone.. Looking like another gloomy day out there. no wond here tho.
Yes Carole it will be an on-going project. As long as people are happy doing squares we will make them into blankets. I enjoy putting them together.
I started Frosty the snow man or Mr Twizzle as he is called yesterday. am to his shoulders. Then started a crochet bag for me last night while I sat in bed watching Jamie Cook. Just going to design it as I go lol...I cant seem to find a bag that Im happy with these days.
Have to get a few things from supermarket then another quiet day for my back. Work in the shed will have to wait till my back unlocks again. cos standing is the hard part.

Have an awesome day everyone.

Yep...I was going to say I had a visit from CaroleV and her beautiful Grand-daughter :)

I am watching The Erebus program.
I remember it so clearly and knew one of the men killed. I was his Mums homehelp way back then. She had already lost 2 sons in a road accident and her husband to cancer, She then had a stroke and lost her speech. She shouted her son the flight. I took her to the bank to take out some money for his trip. He was her caregiver son. So so very sad. She died not long after.
I guess most people my age have very clear memories of that night.
I remember begging God that what I was hearing wasn't true.

5262

blanket looks great popeye, I must get on a knit/crochet a few more. My stash is next to nothing now so it has to wait until I have some leftovers :)

I've been stitching all weekend as I wanted to finish my dragon picture and it's almost done. Just have the back stitching to do and stitch the gold thread and beads and I've finished it. The picture itself is done!! None months plus in the making :). I'll post a pic when I've finished all the finishing touches :) Am soooo chuffed with myself :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-07-13 21:27:00
5263

yes Grandmasue I remember Erebus very clearly. I stayed home and was sewing that night, hubby (first one) had taken son to Auckland to a motocross meeting (we were living in Hamilton at the time) and I had a sewing job to finish and couldn't go so daughter and I stayed home. I was up very late that night. I remember the broadcast that "by now the plane will have run out of fuel" and wishing it wasn't true.

Can't watch anything at the moment. Both tvs have packed a sad. Think it's something to do with the connection on the roof caused by the bad weather.

I'm about to check out Deramores, and see if I really can resist spending another $100 on yarn or will I see something I "need".

Night all.

5264

morning all. I too remember it. well no rain today but we got FOG yaaaa
so stay home today, been thinking about this machine and I can't really justify the money $950 for a machine I mite use a few times. back to knitting bye

carolev - 2014-07-14 07:12:00
5265

morning ladies :) I remember Erebus as well, was a teenager staying with a friend for the weekend. Funny how you remember where you were when tragedy strikes.

I'm off to 'work' again today, hopefully I will get some crafting done this evening. I've rigged up a table lamp and move the coffee table against the couch (I stretch out on the couch lol) so I can see what I'm sewing/knitting in the evening. Seems to work but am going to look at those daylight lamps.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-07-14 07:59:00
5266

kiwimade - I've got one of those OTT lamps - not cheap but worth every penny when you are working on something intricate or knitting with dark yarn like navy or black which otherwise I find I can only knit in daytime.

Have to take mr K to the doc this morning, but hopefully it's only for bp check and scrip for more pills - unless she finds anything else wrong with him.

After all the rain we've had in the last few days, almost 500mm I believe, Civil Defence issued a warning yesterday that we were to conserve water or we would run out by 3pm. A friend phoned to tell me. I already had my second load of washing on and was in the shower when she phoned. If I'd known I would have left the washing for another day and just had a wash instead of a shower. I still have washing to do but it can wait until the water supply has settled back down. Apparently it's because of all the debris in the water supply and the treatment plant can't cope. They also said the water intake to the plant was under water which I thought was odd. Surely if it was above water it wouldn't be able to intake any water???

Have to phone someone to come and sort out our tvs today. They both stopped working just as the second semi-final of the world cup finished. Haven't managed to get them working since. I blamed Mr K for turning off the tv in the lounge with the remote which it doesn't like, has to be switched on and off at the set, but the one in the bedroom isn't working either, and I can't believe both freeview sets stopped working at the same time.

I was naughty last night and ordered $104 worth of goodies from Deramores. Think I'll try and sell off some yarn I've been hoarding for a while and will probably never use.

Right, better do something useful. Happy knitting everyone.

Have a great day.

kuaka - 2014-07-14 08:39:00
5267

Morning everyone. I cant place myself when Erebus went down.. we were living her and I was in form three but I don't particularly remember it. id have been 14.
Ohh Kuaka I hope you got some nice yarns. I haven't brought any wool for 2 months... That must be a record for me. But then I got $130ish from Deramores and nearly the same from spotlight for my birthday at the start of may. So Im not too desperate for yarn.
My back is a little better this morning. Im planning wiping some window frames this morning. Unless MrP tells me not too.
Why did I put the tv on, hes yelling and cursing at the German number 7 player who is wasting time.

Foggy here too. Probably disrupting the flights in Auckland.

I have a desk lamp but it has super bright little bulbs in it. Can go on two strengths. Ive yet to have it on both bulbs. I have it on most of the day so it doesn't chew the power I don't think.

Have a good day everyone. Stay safe on the foggy roads

I'm definitely not buying any more yarn for a while, sorted and counted mine over the weekend and I have 3372 balls, skeins, hanks etc. Goodness knows when I will find to knit it all. Must leave a note in Will as whats to be done with it!!

daisygirl - 2014-07-14 12:01:00
5269

OMG daisygirl.. that's a lot of wool lol... I think putting it in your will is a wise idea. Don't want people just binning it etc lol

popeye333 - 2014-07-14 12:31:00
5270

It's my birthday next month so my Deramore's order is an advance birthday present to myself! I doubt I've got more than 300 balls, if I had over 3000 I don't think I'd sleep at night.

kuaka - 2014-07-14 15:02:00
5271

wow daisygirl. I now consider my 90 ltr container and another smaller one full of yarn as a modest stash. If you knit a ball a day it is going to take you nearly 10 years to get through..
I have knitted this pattern over the weekend
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/super-simple-baby-tu
nic

It would also fit a doll.
I might knit another an tweak the pattern a little. Whilst it is perfectly ok as is ( bar one wee error in the stitch count - front 3rd row should read 27sts not 26) I think it can be improved a bit.
Just started a dolls coat.
Cool day here. Hasn't reached double figures.

kiwicarol - 2014-07-14 16:37:00

my birthday next week so might buy myself wool too. I should put in my will who get what sewing machine or doll.

What is an OTT light? I know that Paterson Burns Optometrists in Hamilton specialise in lighting for people with low vision. I am planning a visit . I have just spent $1308 on new specs and right now am not happy with them. They tell me that it will take about 10 days for my brain to rewire.
I have just saved that wee tunic pattern *kiwicarol*. I have a very small wool stash , about 20 50 gram balls. Just can't focus on much atm. Did knit a couple of flowers today though for Miss 10's hat.
I am getting tired really quick and putting it down to eyestrain.

grandmasue1 - 2014-07-14 20:27:00
5274

I am looking for a pattern, it is a lacey leaf inside a square. You knit lots of squares then sew them up into a blanket, but for the life of me I cannot find a pattern for the leaf square, anyone got any ideas, searched Ravelery. It is not the very old pattern where you do 4 bits to make the leaf etc and sew up, it is an actual lacey leaf inside a square. Hope you get what I mean. Thanks.

daisygirl - 2014-07-14 21:55:00
5275

I think I know what you mean and you can find the pattern on the deramores website. It's SIrdar 1903, Snuggly Kisses, knitted in double knit.

GMS, the lamp I am talking about is a lamp that shines like daylight so you have 'daylight' at night time. What a buggar not being happy with your new glasses. MrK hates his too and they cost a small fortune. He ended up buying a cheapie from the warehouse!

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-07-14 23:13:00
5276

morning ladies, hope you are all warm, dry, and well. Back to the coalface for me this morning lol, then home I hope to do more of the finishing touches of my dragon. Am determined to get it completely finished this week.

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-07-15 07:31:00
5277

morning ladies there is this big yellow thing outside , do you know what it is or called . I have not seen it for some time forgotten it's name. did not knitting last night going well

carolev - 2014-07-15 08:28:00
5278

Morning everyone. We have that yellow thing here too Carole. Nice for a change. So the washing is on.
It took me a good couple of weeks to get to my new glasses too GMS. it will get easier.
Thankfully MrP can get away with the warehouse ones too.

I didn't knit much yesterday either. I did two shoes, patches and one sock tho.

Back nasty again this morning. Other than taking stronger meds there's nothing they can do for it.
My one regret of having a mechanical heart valve is that if I had been told I wouldn't be able to use any topical or oral antiflams, Id have chosen the pig valve. Its not going to be good when my arthritis worsens with age. Grumble over lol

Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.

popeye333 - 2014-07-15 09:03:00
5279

that yellow thing has come up here too but it is currently minus 1 so hope it warms up soon.
I knitted 1 hand warmer last night so will get the other one done today. they would have been handy to have finished this morning

kiwicarol - 2014-07-15 09:21:00
5280

Oh so that's where our yellow thing has gone to - not that I should complain as we have seen more of it lately than some of you less fortunate ones have.

I cleaned the carpets yesterday so would appreciate a bit of sun and warmth but it is a dull cold day instead so have the heater going on and heating up the room very well.

off for morning tea with friends that I used to work with and haven't seen for quite a while so a good catch-up time.

Then back to doing some knitting as the carpet is still too damp to do anything else - or that is as good an excuse as I any I guess!

Have a great day

5286

morning ladies :) I'll check in again this afternoon/evening daisygirl and if you haven't posted a pic I'll e mail you.

Off to 'work' this morning but a tad bleary eyed thanks to the Fluffy One deciding 4.37am was a great time to go outside and bark. Little tart! She had her toosh brought back inside very quickly!

MrK is putting more rat bait down today, heard a thump-thump-thump in the ceiling. Rats certainly know how to make their presence known. The joys of living next to a creek and farmland.

Haven't had a chance to knit, fell asleep on the couch last evening lol. Oh well, 10 more days of 'work' then my time will be my own again.

I've been researching the price of those daylight lamps and OMG! $299 from Spotlight. So now I am thinking I might buy one of the bulbs and pop it into the lamp I already have. I don't need the fancy clips etc and my lamp can be adjusted to wherever I want the light.

Right-o, time to get organised for the day. Happy knitting everyone.

kiwimade64 - 2014-07-16 07:35:00
5287

Morning everyone... I shouldn't be up at this hour lol.

Frosty here too. I have the heater on lol.

Taking MrP for his diabetes eye check this morning at 9am. And he can be very slow in the mornings so I made sure we were up early enough to allow for his slowness.

I did very little knitting yesterday too. Just couldn't be bothered lol.. One warm fluffy critter on my knee makes me forget everything else.

OMG those lights are dear. I think mine was about $50 from mitre10. It has a super heavy base and is brilliant for stitching of all kinds.

Going to be a long day lol with the couple of hours I don't normally see at the start of the day. We have certainly changed into not being morning people lol.

Have a good day everyone

I got mine from lighting direct, its a round lamp quite flat and wide led ring plus lift the top and its a huge magnifying glass. Fox Collections have one of theirs for 49.99

Morning ladies, I bought my OTT lamp on here for around $65 - $69 I can't remember exactly. It has a handle and the front lifts up with the bulb in it so you can adjust exactly where the light shines. I must admit I don't use it a lot but it is very useful when I do need to use it.

popeye - I've never been a morning person, always been a night owl. Even as a kid. I would go to bed and read till 11 or 12 at night. Mum would go mad but it made no difference. She would come into the bedroom and turn the light out so I would read under the blankets with a torch!

I emailed daisygirl last night and she sent me the pic that she is looking for. I saved it then couldn't find it, no amount of searching could locate it on my computer. Weird. I suspect she has scanned it rather than taken a photo of it, and that might be why she can't upload it like a photo. I don't know for sure, just guessing. Anyway it is a leaf in a square rather than a square made up of four leaves joined together. I've had a google and came up with an entrelac scarf which looks to be very similar. I couldn't find the pattern for it though. I think it should be easy enough to adapt the usual leaf pattern by casting on enough stitches for the width of the square and just working the leaf up the centre so that the widest part of the leaf takes up nearly all the stitches, instead of starting off with only a couple of stitches and increasing on each row, then decreasing again to end up with just a couple.

Knit and natter this morning. I will have to walk there and back as our old truck is going in today to get some paintwork done where the rust was removed last week. Think it's almost time to say goodbye to the old girl. She's 25 years old and we've had her for 7 years. She's still young at heart, only done 162,000km but her body is starting to give out. I know that feeling very well.

Very cold here this morning, but a clear sky, sun is shining, looks like being a stunning day. Roll on spring.

Happy knitting everyone.

Kuaka, thankyou for trying to help, have sent you mail. I wont let it beat me, I will find that pattern somewhere. Lovely morn here, snow on the ranges, bright sun, blue sky and blossom out. Time to find my bikini again I think!!!!

if you google "entrelac leaf scarf" and click on images, there's one by goshyarnitshop (or something like that) which looks to me to be very similar to the pattern that daisygirl is looking for. I'm sure it can be sussed out, and I've emailed daisygirl explaining how I would go about doing it. I'd have a go myself but I've got rather a lot on my plate at the mo.

Morning everyone. Not good your feeling unwell Carole

Im doing ok this morning. Have put a huge beef casserole in the crockpot. Which will do a few meals for MrP. Using shin on the bone that we got for soup but we haven't needed to make it. Soo many ham bones and I still have a couple of bacon hocks in the freezer too.

Finished the top of Frostys hat last night. And finished the front of my bag and all but one row of the back
. Madam thought it might be nice to try and touch the wool. Cos its been wound in balls so it was rolling teasing her. Its the first time she has ever grabbed the ball of wool and run with it. so she got a good growling. And didn't touch it again. It was tormenting her lol

Off up the road shortly. Gotta do my INR again since it wasn't good last week. Probably wont be any better this week lol. Then groceries
