Hi hollyj, that quilt is really lovely, and the quilting is so perfect. Did you do the inside border by hand or on the machine? I am not very good at quilting, hence it is usually stitch in the ditch or the good old diagonals using masking tape. Would really like to know how you did it, you obviously had a stensil??

Me again hollyj, if you are looking for quilt patterns have a look along the selvedge of your fabric, there is always a website, go to the site and it usually says either projects or free pattern, there are loads and you can download in a PDF file, they are very detailed. Reason is of course the wonderful fabric manufacturers want us to buy more fabric. I have made some some of the patterns with great success. No need to spend money on books or patterns. If you have cut the selvedge off just google any of the following Moda, Michael Miller, Hoffman Fabrics, Red Rooster, Robert Kaufman. Michael Miller is my favourite, some fabulous quilts on that site.

Hi hollyj, quilt shop is called The Crafty Needle, 6A Jack Conway St (I think its Street but might be Road) in Manukau. Its off Cavendish drive. If you go up Cavendish from Great South Road you have to go up, turn across the road and come back down as its on the left but you can't turn into it because of the island down the middle. Ngaire, the lady there is just lovely.

Should also have said she is also the new Bernina retailer and can also arrange service, as the old Bernina shop has closed.

Did you mark the stencil out on your fabric and then sew it hollyj?

Hi hollyj, that would be the lady who had the Bernina shop in Papakura I think?? The lady in Papatoetoe was Jean, she was a wonderful quilter but her health wasn't good, she had the shop on the market for over a year and then she had a really bad fall. I think she just closed the shop due to her health. She was such a nice lady and so helpful if you wanted to know anything about quilting. She was a prizewinning quilter. She moved up to Whangarei.

Thanks for that hollyj, I bought a stensil some time ago but have never been brave enough to use it. Will have a go. Am just about to sandwich a quilt so might give it a try. Coalie is very clever, she does freehand quilting, I am hopeless at that.

Hello Cindydog, glad your eyes are alot better. wow that was a big sleep in. Have a good day :)

Hi Cindydog, it really is better to wash the fabric, might have said before they put dressing in the fabric, sort of makes it feel firmer but when it is cut very likely does get in your eyes. One of the ladies in my quilt group has had problems and she said she doesn't wash her fabric either but does now and eyes are better. Sorry Twi but I really think it is better to wash the fabric, its the running that scares me if its a dark colour.
