morning ladies :) Happy belated birthday MrP, yesterday was such a rush I never got back here to send birthday wishes.

We seemed to have a revolving door yesterday with visitors and adding to the mix was the extra four legged visitor who luckily went home to his young owner. Turned out he had been stolen and then dumped. Nasty buggars, who could do that to a 12 week old pup. My plan of finishing my dragon picture over the weekend was well and truly foiled lol.

Off to 'work' again for me today, three more weeks of helping out and then taking our son back to Hamilton this evening and picking up the Fluffy One for another half week with us. I know by the end of the day I'll be shattered and won't get any knitting done. But there is always tomorrow!

happy knitting :)

morning ladies, I had a phone call yesterday from my ex-sister-in-law wanting to come and visit this week with a friend. I've known her since I was 15 and we always get on well. She asked me to find a motel that would be prepared to take her with her two dogs. I said I would and would phone her back. As I put the phone down I thought "I do have her phone number don't I?" which of course it turns out I didn't as she's rented her house out and is renting in another town - internet was no help. Phoned a mutual friend who didn't have it. Phone her old number hoping her tenant would be able to help, no reply. Puzzled over it for ages then phoned her ex-son-in-law who gave me her daughter's phone number (also not in the directory) who gave me her number. Phew! She's coming tomorrow which will mean I will miss my usual Tuesday afternoon out and will have to have a tidy up, but it will be good to catch up on all the gossip.

Looks like it could be another nice day today, not very windy (yet) and no rain in sight. I think the plan today will be, tidy up, walk, more tidy up. Then some knitting. Put the rubbish out for tomorrow. More knitting. What an exciting life I lead.

Have fun everyone.

PS. Belated birthday greetings to Mr P.

Morning everyone.. Thank you for the kind wishes from MrP

Busy time for everyone, don't forget to take some power breaks.

Started the day on pain killers at 5am... not feeling so sore now

I thought today would be busy. Had to check when my mammogram was due. Not till November, so that's one less thing this week. I thought it was due about now , and thought since the mobile was in town Id see if I can use it.
Have got a fridge on hold. But need to find a cheaper delivery option.. They want $77.50 to bring it 23kms. We don't have a tow bar and none of our friends do either unfortunately. So Ill ring some of the delivery firms here.
Im sure I will now hear about getting a tow bar from MrP for the next few days.
Need to go get the other wheel too. Dreading that. not sure how much the call out fee will be.. Was les than 1km from the workshop tho.

HAve a good day everyone

Morning all,
An even later belated birthday greetingMr P hope you really enjoyed the chops (almost like eating gold these days lol).

So happy the pup turned up at your place Kiwimade and then onto its owner as it could have been left to wander or worse poor wee thing.

Enjoy your visitors Kuaka now that you have found them again!

I too have a 10st on the go GMS which I turn to when I want something mindless to do or extra bit of left over wool to use up.

Now going to put on undercoat on walls love seeing each stage of getting the rooms sorted out, luckily it is a lovely day here again although a bit cold. The new neighbours cut down the biggish tree on their fence line yesterday and now I am getting sun in the dining area again in the morning, it was a lovely tree but totally wrong for on a smallish section I town.

Have a good day everyone

I must have worked out too hard on my planks at the gym....lol...when I read the post above me. I thought jayemtoo had written she had lost 10 stone not 10 stitches..lol. Blank moment haha. cant have a senior moment my aunty told me as I am 47 not 50, senior moments too her are for 50yrs +
I have a mamogram on monday, I so hate them.
My husband is going to be off work for at least a year due to a serious illness. So I told him he can be my butler.......lol.

I have a friend who will be having her mammogram now. Another on Thursday.
We all agree, they are uncomfortable not painfull. And for my school friend if I hadn't pushed her into it, she wouldn't have found the lump. She doesn't home exam either.
In return for me pushing her into having her mammogram, she pushed me into having a smear. she drew the short straw on that too with a not clear result. But all ok now.
9 days between us so we are like sisters. But Im glad we pushed each other into both tests. She has admitted she doesn't want to have another smear, so Ill just nudge gently.
Havent even managed to get the squares out of the sewing room let alone sort them put.
Tomorrow is another day.. Will get that done and do the housework on Wednesday.

Hows this for recycling.. MrP is going to put the old fridge in the garage and use it as a cupboard for tools etc... He did offer it for wool storage but we need the garage sorted out and that will help start it.

Popeye, had a quick glance at your thread in general. Check out flybuys two companys have deals on there for roadside assistance. We were with aa for years then I pulled out and just left tony in it, when I needed them while I was in his car they wouldn't come because he wasn't in the car

mmmmm Twinklestar perhaps that's a hint I could lose a bit - perhaps not 10 stone though!
Didn't quite get all the walls done today as ran out of paint and by the time I
got clean enough to go down town to get more the urge to get covered with paint had gone for today so did some knitting instead

morning ladies :) Didn't get home until close to 8.00pm by the time I got son back to Hamilton and had worked a full day so was pretty shattered. No knitting done, just fell asleep on the couch lol.

Back to the grind again today :)

Happy knitting :)

morning ladies, an early start for me. I still have to clear the clutter off the coffee table and polish it, wash the bathroom and laundry floor (won't take long) and then I can relax and await my visitor. Oh that's right, have to zap to town and post a package. The weather is looking anything but friendly, it's blowing quite hard and threatening rain (and it's supposed to get heavy I believe).

Tomorrow our old truck is going in for rust removal repairs so we will have no transport till Friday so unless I want to walk to the Farmers market we will have to get our fresh veg at Countdown at the weekend.

Last night I did some more to my bag that I started some 12 or 13 years ago. I've now done all the quilting (it's denim and a layer of batting and a thin cotton lining) - it's a pretty rough job I admit, but that part is done and I've put the binding along the top edge where the zip goes. So all I have to do now is put the zip in, sew in the 9 pockets it has (which are already quilted and bound) and then sew the sides up and bind them, and find something to use for handles. I'm hoping to get it finished by the end of the month. That will be a big UFO out of the way. (I have since realised that I should have marked the quilting lines on the fabric before I tacked the three pieces of fabric together so I must remember that if I ever make another one). The lady who gave me the pattern used to make and sell these bags for $120 each. Sometimes she would make two in a week!

I've tucked the 10 stitch blanket behind the settee out of sight, and will carry on with the crocheted one meantime. Already I'm trying to figure out what my next project will be. Am I the only one who always thinks 3 steps ahead of what I'm actually doing?

Happy knitting everyone.

Morning everyone.
Yes raej I saw the road side assistance on the fly buys. That's what made me realise insurance companies did it. I rang ours and have added it to the policy. $27-40 a year is pretty cheap Insurance for breakdowns.

Not such a brain draining day for me today lol.. Have to go post a sale, get petrol or I might not get home lol.
Then I will finally get the blanket laid out. And start putting that together. I only need 6 squares for my project. So timing will be good. Ill get my friend to help me lay it out.
Washing is on, but I think Ill just throw it in the dryer, it never seems to make any difference to our power bill.

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2014-07-08 09:19:00
5215

Got our power bill this morning - $224 which I don't think is too bad as it is an "actual" not an estimate and last one was $160 and was under-estimated to the tune of $80. Considering the heat pump has been on all day every day for the last two months, and I've used the dryer a few times and dehumidifier quite a bit, as well as the oven at times, all in all, not as bad as I expected.

kuaka - 2014-07-08 10:23:00
5216

Not bad at all eh Kuaka. Our last was a cheaper one, a read too. Ive got a few hundred in credit so not too worried if we have a higher bill. The dryer has never made any difference to the bill here.

Finally got the next blanket laid out. Took photos. But this time I put each row in a bag and wrote the order incase they should get dropped or something. Think I might crochet it together with a dark blue which I probably wont ever use to knit with its too dark really.

So Ill start that today.

So CaroleV what are you doing? I might give you a call tomorrow.

I am having a busy week as d-I-l is not well. So I get to share the kids .
We made donuts this morning.
I am still plodding away at my blanket, and also occasionally a square. I quite like doing them on the diagonal and 8 inches.

I took Pasue out yesterday for his INR test (2.3) then over to a tractor place in Hamilton and the long way home to check out the massive roadworks. We brought lunch.

phew, am home :) Busy busy at 'work' so the day goes by pretty quick. I had to take my sister's dog to the groomers over on St Kilda Rd GMS and wow those roadworks for the bypass are everywhere! It's a huge project.

MrK has dinner sorted already so I'm going to put my feet up and knit :)

Happy knitting :)

morning ladies :) We had a pretty wild and windy night last night, had water saved in the kettle and bottles in case the power went out. We have a water pump so no power = no water. When there is a bit more light I'll go outside and check everything is OK.

I did a bit more on my scarf last night, am pleased now I unpicked it. As MrK said, I would never wear it if I was unhappy with it.

Off to the coalface again today, happy knitting :)

Morning everyone... Nice and windy out there. no rain and its not cold or anything.
I shudder to think what all the road changes would be like at Hamilton, last time we went through the Kihakatea drive was just finished, so yes a few years ago. And I managed to get us through. We didn't know about it. lol Havent been through the Ngaruawahia ones either.

Got two rows of the blanket together yesterday. Another one to join up then the next two will be less work as the 16 inch square goes through two rows. 4 squares left on my secret project.
I need to pick up some needles tho and start making some Christmas toys for here. So once Ive done the squares for my project Ill start doing that.

MrK is right Kiwimade, id be the same, I couldn't wear something that I know has a big mistake in it. I know a coule of squares in my project have a treble missing on the corner. But they are my Armish mistakes...

Housework today and MrP wants his hair cut.

Was meant to do my INR last week... oops I had it in my mind it was a few days After MrP's birthday, but it was before. Ill do it tomorrow since we will be on that side of town.

Have a good day all

Morning all. cold and drizzly here.
In the past week i have knitted a couple of the baby tops popeye posted a pic of of hers recently. Haven't yet sewn on buttons or threaded in my ends. The variegated one is 1-3 year size and the mauve 9 months. I could tell i was going to run out of yarn on the bigger one hence the extra blue bit. So it took just over 100g. The yarn i used was a 100g ball but only 228m in length Most 100 g balls I have are longer. the 9 month size i just got out of the 100g ball. I am now knitting this pattern which is quite an enjoyable one to do so far,

ps i intentionally did not knit into the backs of my M1's on the bigger top as I am thinking I might run a blue ribbon through the holes.

Hoping All Is Ok for Kuaka and everyone else up north . Nasty weather up there.

popeye333 - 2014-07-09 12:40:00
5224

Well it is quite wild up here - my ex-sil arrived yesterday later than she had planned and had a cuppa, then went and booked into the motel. She was a bit put out when I said she had to leave her dogs in the car as the cat was indoors. I went down to the motel and had a cuppa with her in the afternoon (branch of our huge totara was in our driveway as I drove back in, so I had to drag that to one side), and then went back in the evening and had a glass of wine with her. Mr K thought I was mad but there was no traffic on the road - I was the only one made enough to venture out! They called in this morning on their way home, to have a coffee and say goodbye but we found out the road is closed due to flooding and there is no way they are getting back to Auckland just yet, so they booked back into the motel. They've just left here, I gave them lunch. I feel bad that they can't stay here (even though I've never met her friend before) but Mr K is pleased to see them gone.

The garden furniture was blown all around the deck, and there is bits of rimu tree everywhere from next door, and now it's chucking it down again, can't see anything out the window, my seaview has gone, the sea looks like mud anyway. The car ferry was running earlier today (not yesterday) and I think if it gets much worse it will stop running again. I should have done a lot of knitting today but all I seem to have done is chat and make cuppas. Never mind. I might not see her again for years.

Hope everyone is safe and making the best of the nasty weather to do some crafting.

Just a square done today but I made a nice pinboard for my sewing room with some fabric I bought from here. Theres enough left to make a handbag too....one day!!!!

Hello all :)
I went and had that mamogram, glad thats over and done with.
While I was in town I went to 2 shops that I had never been to, the wool shop opposite countdown on anglesea st and knitters world on victoria st. Got some wool, not acrylic from both. Why is wool bails smaller than the acrylic and dearer?
kiwicarol those are lovely garments you knitted up. You are clever.
My friend gave me a scarf she knitted for me and she has done a bit on her cardi she is knitting for me. I am the worlds slowest knitter. I think it has something to do with the fact I never properly learnt to knit until I was 16. My friend who is knitting the cardi learnt when she was a young kid and I personally believe the younger you learnt at the faster and better knitter you are. Well thats my story and I will stick to it....lol.
It was really windy last night and I did not sleep alot as I got scared. So I may have to have a power nap so I can watch the final of once upon a time tonight at 9.30ish.
Got today and tomorrow off work so am enjoying the rest. One day I spend out and about and the other I just stay at home, with the hubby, who will be my butler now....lol and the animals and just catching up with myself and my random thoughts.

Glad everyone is ok.. looks shocking on the news.

Twinkle the more you knit the faster you will get

popeye333 - 2014-07-09 17:50:00
5228

the day started out reasonably warm and calm but has cooled down significantly this pm and now quite icey feeling and wet but not very windy.
The picture on the news looked awful.
Your little tops are great kiwicarol it is such a useful pattern.

Twinklestar I guess wool is more expensive as it takes a lot more effort and time to make a ball with caring for the sheep, shearing and then all the processing of the wool whereas acrylic is just throw some chemicals into a mix and make into yarn, not that I really understand how acrylic, plastics etc are made.

Now keeping nice and warm in the bedroom as living rooms still uninhabitable although gradually getting there with the painting did all the cutting in of the first coat of the colour this am but had to go out this pm so have to finish the first coat tomorrow but starting to see how it will finally look.
Now into some knitting, can't concentrate much this evening so will just do one of my blankets.

Good morning all :)
Yes when things are not good you truly find out who cares and who dont.
Wow 14 grandchildren, thats alot, my nana had around that and alot great grandkids as well. She did have 6 kids tho.....lol.
Well I have been playing around with the colours of wool and acrylic that I have got yesterday. There are some truly neat colours about these days.
I hope you all are keeping warm today.
I am going to do some housework today and use my new vacum cleaner. Gee I may even do some dusting....well...maybe not...who knows.
I am going to go for a walk, I will just put the raincoat on though.Going to try and get some washing dry, as need a clean uniform for work tomorrow. Also was thinking I should really prune my roses, and prepare a spot for the new one I am getting next week, Dublin Bay. Need a splash of red on the new fence/trellis that got built a few weeks back.

healthynz67 - 2014-07-10 07:52:00
5232

morning ladies :) ooohh Dublin Bay is one of my favs, I also have the pink Bantry Bay. I mixed Iceberg and Dublin Bay together over a trellis and they looked awesome. Husband built me a metal arch and painted it black when we lived in town and I grew the roses over that. Just loved walking under it to get to the washing line lol.

I knitted for a bit last night and am so much happier with my scarf. Will be a slow knit though as I'm pretty tired when I get home.

Housework is all done, will drop the Fluffy One off home on my to 'work' so we will be down to one dog for a few days - assuming no one dumps any more dogs this weekend!

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.

Wow 14 GREAT grandchildren.. Well done GMS. Mum had 2 before she died. Theres three now tho... miles behind you. And none coming from me that's for sure lol... I doubt very much if my Sisters remaining son will have any either.

The blanket is coming along quite quickly. Have to join the double row bit on next., Then two rows to make up and put on.. Then Ill do a single row of trebles around it. It adds a simple border that looks a bit like blanket stitch.
My 49 pieces for my Project are done.

Might not get too much done today.. Going to do my INR, pay the garage and get groceries. Then I have a pile of washing to fold and put away. And then the fridge will arrive this afternoon. yay.

Waikato ladies where is this St Kilda area you were talking about.? MrP lived in Hamilton for many years but doesn't know it. We assume its a new area?

Have a good day everyone

grandmasue hope you enjoy knitting the wee vest. I only have a few rows to go on mine so should get it finished today.
I hope the weather has settled down for those up north.

Morning all, gosh everyone sounds so busy in the knitting dept. I'm just waiting for a few things to sell on here then I'll get the wool for my daughters jersey. I managed to pick up two packs of fluffy yarn so are planning to make the freezing student in Dunedin a blanket. Yarn is navy so will get some of the variegated navy/blues Patons for the main body and border with the fluffy stuff. Another teaching/marking day at work today. Carers have to have first four modules compulsory but its like pulling teeth trying to get them to finish. You'd think if someone wanted to pay for a qualification for you, you would jump at the chance, especially when it puts your wages up.

Ive just finished Puss n Boots, hes on here already. and have knitted a duckling .
I love Jean Greenhowes patterns. Im going to knit a few duckling sets, mother father 2 ducklings and a duckling in an egg. For easter. But a friend wants a clown so Ill knit them at the same time. Wont get bored that way.

I got 200grm balls or fluoresant green and orange the other day. I reckon thats going to be hard on the eyes lol.

My sister in law spins her own wool. Shes a confirmed pure wool knitter and Im like arcylic for the toys.

Her 12 granddaughter has just finished her first project, a cardy for a baby for her teacher. I told her the other day when she is older she will realise how lucky she is , knowing how to knit.[/quote]

morning ladies :) Welcome to the thread bagpipes! If you look at the Deramores site, we take no responsibility for any damage done to your credit card!

Popeye, St Kildas is a road in Cambridge where I took the Fluffy One to be groomed. The massive bypass they are building around Cambridge is right near it.

Almost finished our first week without the office manager and so far so good! Another two weeks to go :)

Have a list of things to do after 'work' today, have to pay the Furry One's registration. We get off light compared to other districts.

Did a few more rows on my scarf and getting into the swing of knitting 2ply. It is a slow project though as I haven't as much time at the moment. Oh well, it will be done for next winter.

Spotted on our FB page some crochet mats for a child's room and a hint from our daughter's MIL I make one lol. Might just have to buy the pattern as they look super cute.

Happy knitting :)

Are you doing life lines on your scarf kiwi. Welcome bagpipes, I'm more of a pure wool snob although since I've been shopping at deramores been buying more acrylic. loveknitting.com is similar to deramores but has different specials so you can flick between the 2

Morning everyone.. Welcome Bagpipes.. I love knitting the toys. I have most of jean greenhowes books.. I don't have the mermaid one tho.. it didn't interest me. What toys is this business after? I started a group on FB bagpipes called Lets Wrap up NZ. ask to join and youll find me on there. And we can talk there

I have to two the two pieces of blanket now and do the edging and that's done.

Kiwimade when you go back to a bigger needle and ply your going to feel like your knitting on crow bars lol.

Sore today, I guess walking around the supermarket in bare feet didn't help. but the scratches madam left on the top of my foot swelled soo much that my shoes rubbed. I should have worn jandles but even that wouldn't have helped much.
So a quiet day after Ive been to get fruit.

I love the new fridge. Its very much the same as the old one, but instead of two vege bins there's only one the full width of the fridge. I have two halves of a huge pumpkin and a rather large cabbage in there plus a bottle of wine, 3 small jars of jam and a can of cream and there's still room in it.

Have a good day everyone

Morning all. Twinklestar, I sympathize with the marking. I had an assessor loose my entire advanced course and I had to write out twice. Even worse she said they went missing in the post but hadnt even been sent. My guys get their modules marked and back within a week.

Carolev, pleased you are feeling better. I am only just getting a thawing of the ways with an older sister who stopped talking to me seven years ago when Mum died. Has been very hard as she was more like a Mum to me. My B-in-law has agreed to give me away when I get remarried next January.

Good morning all, hope you are keeping well and warm on this lovely winters day. the good news is that spring is not that far away. This week I will plant a rose in prearation for the winter. I pruned all my roses the other day. Saw alot of spring bulbs coming up so that made me feel great...I love spring. Oh well I had better get off here and earn some dollars.....lol. Did about 6 squares last night for the new blanket, then I am thinking I should look into knitting some toys or do another blanket, but with patterned colour. Have a good day all.

morning ladies. Well my "visitors" finally got away yesterday morning, having checked in and out of the motel three days running, when they had only intended to come for an overnight visit. Would have been cheaper for them to put the dogs in the kennels and the humans stay here with me. They were lucky to get away when they did as the road was open with only one vehicle being allowed across the bridge at a time, and with the heavy rain we had all day yesterday I think the road would have closed again before the day was out.

Maybe now I can settle back to doing some knitting. I've also made some progress on my wip which I started some 13 years ago, but my blankets have been neglected this week.

I probably shouldn't mention this but I received an email from Deramores last night. Up to 20% off double knitting yarn.

Got a letter from Countdown yesterday with a special offer just for me. If I spend $165 each week for the next 3 weeks I get a voucher for a massive $15. Think I'll pass on that one.

Happy knitting everyone.

morning ladies :) WOW is it raining here or what! And the wind is reallllyyy strong! The perfect day to be doing crafts :P

Yes, raej2, I am doing lifelines, I think it's the best way to manage the pattern, especially as I have found errors and I tend to make mistakes too. I use old embroidery floss which works well.

lol kuaka, I got that 20% off e mail too but I'm being strong. I am determined to finish what I start and buy what I need.

I have a bacon and egg pie to bake, washing to do, housework is done, so the day is pretty much mine.

Whatever you are doing today I hope you are warm and dry.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone,,, nearly afternoon for me.

Woke up in severe pain this morning. Took my pills and pain meds and didn't wake up again till 9-45... I never do that...
So it will be a very quiet day for me. Im going to sort out wool to knit a frosty boy for Christmas.
Have finished the charity blanket. Will take a photo later.

Raining here, straight down very little wind. Not cold tho.

I have about 10 step grandkids Carole and one step great grandson that I know of, Ands that's only from noseying around facebook..

Congrats Carole's on the new grandie, sorry about BiL.
Hope you are feeling better Popeyes, good that you managed a bit more sleep and can have an easier day.
Weather here sunny and breezy but not gale force, just been looking at photos of what is going on up north looks awful, hope all is ok for you Kuaka.

Am taking a bit of a break as just finished the cutting in on last coat of paint and now getting up the oomph to do the roller on the walls, will be happy to see it done, then have the fun -or hard part of selecting new furniture and curtains. The trouble is I am either impulsive and then not like what I got or dither around trying to make up my mind but then usually like what I get. See Harvey Norman has a sale on so will go and check them out again.

In between times will fit in a bit of knitting onto the last slipper that I will do for now, they men sized so take a bit of knitting, then just have to felt and get them dry.

Keep dry and safe all
