I reckon you can never have too much wool either

Glad your trip went ok Kuaka.. I imagine the dr got quite a surprise when MrK told him what he likes to be able to do. Expect some depression while things settle into his acceptance of not being able to do things.
The hardest part for me was trying not to wrap MrP in cottonwool. Incase he moved the wrong way and severed his spinal cord. We gotta let them find out what they are still able to do.

Good bargains Carole.. What is a cover stitches machine?

I take my hat off to you Twinklestar, I cannot handle dementia. Physical disability's yes but not mental.. Yet when I was at school the mentally disabled used to cling to me and I never minded it. But as mum went down hill it did my head in.

Headache has only eased slightly. I have done a couple of squares tho, don't have to think about them as such.

Popeye, I think I like it as I have no kids and I get that nurturing feel as well as love from them. It is challenging at times but I would not want to do anythingelse in life.
A good friend of mine mum died from dementia not long ago. I used to visit her.....just before she died, I sung to her and she made those groany noises, so I stoppped singing and she stopped groaning, hahaha, my singiing does suck major. Anyway about a week later my friend told me that her mum died, I was so worried that my singing traumatised her to death, I said it wasnt my singing that killder her aye? My friend laughed and said no, you are bad at singing but not that bad where some1 would die as a result.....hahahahaha.

Golly you have all been very busy and the thread has moved fast.

I am a bit *scatter* brained at the moment and not concentrating well.
I have made the decision to unknit, (as my grandson calls it) the last piece I made. In fact grandson 8 has been winding the wool up while I knitted.
He likes to keep his hands busy and is good at repetitive tasks.

raej - that is so pretty, but I know from experience that the novelty soon wears off and it's cold with a capital C. I hope you are snug and warm. Lovely sunny day here, but it's cold. Will go for a walk later and buy some veg at the farmer's market, other than that, I think I'll have an easy day apart from clean sheets on the bed and do the washing. I feel half dead this morning, slept in the chair for a while last night, then slept all night and didn't want to get up this morning. Mr K brought me a cup of tea in bed and I could happily still be there. I'm just very tired. Yesterday was quite stressful and I think that takes a toll. I'm sure it won't be permanent or fatal. Tomorrow I'll be fine.

So having said that, a good excuse to do some knitting or craft.

Happy knitting everyone.

Sunshine here in Kapiti too but by golly its crisp. Darning in loose ends on squares for the post before I go to work. Long day at work today. Teaching ACE (caregivers programme) then shift in the Village so it should be quiet compared to the care facility. I'm waiting on a knitting book to arrive then I'm going to start a jumper for my 15 year old. Enjoy your day ladies

Morning everyone.

Got you now Carole.. Used to work in a jean factory here when I first left school. Only part I didn't learn how to do was the fly.. Not very helpful lol. HAd a supervisor that had huge pockets on her smock and if anyone wanted kids jeans they would be made from her pockets lol.
My fave machine was an elasticator, 5 needles on it.. couldn't use a twin needle I kept going cross eyed. But 5 needles was ok lol

Ive done 33 squares on my project.

Am getting close to enough for another community blanket too so should be joining that soon. I think I have another lot on the way to me.

Ohh love the snow. First time Id ever had snow at home was on our 1st wedding anniversary so nearly 22 years ago. The town was white. The number of snowmen that grew quickly was amazing. Our Lab dog wasn't sure he liked it or not but would walk in it.

Off to Pukekohe this morning. Its MrP's birthday on sunday. So I have told him we will go to the warehouse for variety and that we wont leave the store till we have found something he wants. Im thinking it could be a meerkat for the garden, most likely. I will look at their wool, haven't looked there for a while

My headache has gone.. Yay so when home Im going to start a Frosty the Snowman. To list on here now that Christmas is getting closer.

Have a good day. Stay warm and safe

Yep it will be Vicky.. Not here as yet. But our posty gets later all the time at the mo.

Had a look at the wool in the warehouse, got another ball of variegated. But just discovered Id didn't get the 30% off that I was meant to. so will have to make another trip at some stage.
Got MrP 2 pairs of jeans only $10 each and a Meerkat, just a head and paws sticking out of the ground. And it kinda matches the carpet so is in front of the tv.
So Im shopped out now... Just thinking I don't suppose Id get the discount if I left it till next week. Had better phone them back before the special runs out.. Was the only 8ply ball they had too.

Sunny here now. But was nice wearing my jacket while out

I had to send 2 requests to join the group. one on web and the other on the mobile.....I use the mobile mainly for facebook.
Carole, I would love to have a look at the machine, but would be unable to look for about a month.

Grandson has finished my unknitting so I now I have to decide what I am reknitting. :)

I have been to the Optometrist today and $1308 later I will be getting new glasses in a bout a fortnight.
I am also going to check out Patterson Burns Hamilton showroom as they have special lighting on display to assist those with low vision.

5164

Have you ever got any glasses online, like from zenni optical or clearly contacts? I go to opsm. I have funny eyes, like progressives, so I made sure they were polarised etc. Cost a bit, $1500, mind you I think they were a label.

healthynz67 - 2014-07-03 19:50:00
5165

I got a facebook email from a lady called mahlia (i think), 1 of the admins from the craft group, saying could I please let her know why I want to join the group, my interests etc. She said it was due to an overwhelming number of people wanting to join. I told her about this thread and about carolev and how I would like to meet carole and learn from her about sewing etc. So I will have to wait and see. Hopefully I get to join the group on facebook. I also let her know my interests etc. I would so love to come and meet you carole and learn how to do different things on the sewing machine to make things etc.

hi all. would like to meet you to Vicky, are you working in a old peoples home in Hamilton. cold day here but got some sewing to cut on, just got the tops of sleeves to go on jumper, just can't get into things this winter,

5167

morning ladies :) Hopefully your new glasses will do the trick GMS!

Off to 'work' this morning, son is coming home for a few days for some TLC after a dentist visit. Better get some pasta for mac 'n' cheese lol. Will get dishes and washing done then I'm off.

Have done a few more rows on my scarf but I think I'll have to unpick some of it. Unless I decide I can live with the mistake. Had the Furry One on my lap as I was knitting wanting a cuddle. Knitting + The Furry One demanding attention = mistakes lol. I think he has been missing me while I am out each day.

Anyhooo, I've got to get moving. Happy knitting :)

Morning all...well its official. It appears ive finally mprhed into my mother and can no longer see black or navy at night...such a pain lol! So I expect there will soon be plastic bags of loose ends of wool stashed behind the dressing table. Oh dear!

vivz2 - 2014-07-04 09:46:00
5169

Morning everyone.
Ouch GMS re the glasses. I need new ones too, will have them tested next month. but Ill have to suck it up and see winz for help. Ive got to have progressives and transitionals too, very sensitive to sun.

I cant do black either Twinklestar

What a morning.. Just getting breakfast and my friend rang needed a ride to work, she put her car in for a warrant and couldn't get a ride for work. I get down the road and wonder what the massive noise was. Flat back tire. Called the garage and they came and swapped it for me. Goodness knows what the call out charge will be.
So my friend was late for work.

Came home for my breakfast but I still have to go back up then road.

Have done 33 squares of my project.. Keeping me busy until I have enough squares to do another charity blanket.

Ive never been asked to give info like that to join Twinklestar.. Weird but I guess cos there have been a few scammer.

Have a good day everyone

popeye333 - 2014-07-04 10:26:00
5170

I am in the facebook group... I will post on there a bit later, and when I finish my sewing the squares up for the blanket I will take a pic and post to the group. If someone knows how to share the picture to here from there feel free to do so, as I am on dialup and computer old.

twinklestar, if you want to upload a photo, it's quite easy - not sure if I can explain it clearly, but I'll try. Go to "my trade me" and click on the drop down menu (it says "view my trade me") and find "my photos" - it's under "more options". Click on that, and you should have an option to "upload a photo". Click on that, and upload your photo (it helps if you know the location of your photo or can find it easily on your computer). Once you've uploaded the photo, then it gives you the option of uploading another photo (I think from memory), go back to "my photos" and click on the photo to enlarge it, and then highlight the address in the address bar, cut and paste it - on my computer I use control C to cut it, then control V to paste it, so cut it, then come back to the message board, start your message, then paste it.

It sounds quite complicated, but it's not and once you've done it a couple of times it's really easy - just have to think about it trying to write it out like this without actually doing it.

afternoon ladies, what a day. Freezing cold so I wasn't feeling all that enthusiastic about getting up, so Mr K brought me a cup of tea in bed and had the heat pump nicely warming the place up by the time I got up. Half way through our late breakfast the power went off. I had already lit the woodfire and turned the heat pump off by that stage, but I had a load of washing in the machine which was only half way through the wash cycle, so that hasn't been out long, it's been blowing a gale all morning, but by the time the power came back on (almost 2pm) the wind had dropped and the rain had started. Oh well, washing is on the line (it's on our little deck which has a roof over it) so it might dry. Course the first thing I did when I went to check on the washing was to put the light on in the laundry - not very smart eh?

Both of my blanket projects are a bit dark to work on without lights, so I gave the kitchen/dining room floor a birthday and washed it. Tea is on (casserole) so now I might sit and relax and do some knitting, but I'd better bring some more firewood in first I suppose.

Happy knitting everyone.

I would have to take a picture on my camera and not cellphone, to post to here and it takes forever on dialup, but I may do it next week. Just have to remember to charge the batteries up..lol

lol kuaka, my husband has a horror of changing lightbulbs so he switches off the mains to do it. He always without fail tries to switch the lights back on without turning the mains on, I usually do it for him when I've stopped laughing. twinklestar2 I have satellite with farmside, so only 2g a month - 30g off peak, I have to download all my patterns and upload photos between midnight and 8am. I am getting quite good at waking up about 1 am lol

morning all another wet and windy day, not cold finished jumper just got to sew it up. I hate that job. bought polo fleece blankets for all the grandkids, miss D loved her's and Miss C wraped herself up in her's .

5176

Morning everyone. And here I thought we might have a frost it was clear as a bell last night. but rainy and windy here too.

We get one of the younger neighbours to change our light bulbs. MrP no good on chairs or ladders and I hate reaching above my head, makes me go funny.

The Blardy fridge keeps beeping. I hope its not on its way out. Only finished paying for the freezer last week. It is about 16 years old. Will ring the electrical store and have a chat with them first.

Did four squares yesterdayfor my project.

One is a bit small so Ill add another colour to it and add it to the charity blanket. Still waiting for your squares to arrive Vicky, maybe today. Then Ill have a count up and see how close I am to being able to put it together. Im ready to start connecting again now that Ive had a wee break.

Have a good day everyone. Stay warm and dry. And be careful on the roads if you have to be on them

popeye333 - 2014-07-05 09:38:00

carolev - 2014-07-05 12:48:00
5179

Thanks Vivz2, nothing as yet.. Will PM you Carole, thank you.

Have spoken to Fisher and Paykall, the woman told me honestly by the time we had a call out and labour and parts it would be just about as much as it would be to buy a new fridge.

Looking at 2, one is a slimline fridge only the other is $100 more but it has a small freezer.
Don't know if Id handle it without a small freezer in the kitchen. A friend is checking them out for me. I trust her judgement.

What do you ladies have in the kitchen? A fridge freezer or A plain Fridge.?

popeye333 - 2014-07-05 12:57:00
5180

I have fridge freezer....freezer on the bottom but when I moved in with my partner we also kept extra fridge freezer in the laundry off kitchen. I like to bake and cook in advance and need the space

vivz2 - 2014-07-05 13:34:00
5181

Me too Vivz, we have three freezers in the garage.

Just did a size comparison, its basically the same size as the freezer we got last year. It will fit better in the fridge space. Its a bit smaller, but then its all fridge no freezer. so space wise I don't think there will be much difference at all.
And a bit silly to pay $150 more just to have a tiny bit of freezer space. I thought it was $100 but its actually $150.
And at least I don't have to go outside to get to the freezers anyway.

popeye333 - 2014-07-05 13:39:00
5182

whats wrong with it popeye our frig is well over 40 year old maybe 50 a old norge and mr T keeps it going . my frezzers in the garage but we have a icebox in the OLD frig holds bread peas and shrimps. , some one left the frig door open today god it's cold. the furry girls and I had a nanna nap.

carolev - 2014-07-05 15:55:00
5183

Its beeping all the time. The lights on the dashboard in the back are flashing and the freezer was starting to thaw.

Hate things that don't do what they are meant to and Im not allowed to buy secondhand electrical things. not things that are running all the time anyway.

Squares have arrived Thank you ladies... I have enough for a 7 by 6 blanket. And Ive kept some that would be lovely as a baby blanket in store. For when we vote for that.

Will lay it out tomorrow and take a photo.

My project Ive decided will be 7 by 7. Big enough for a good size Nana nap blanket. Im 12 short so far. But it wont take long to get those crochet up. No rush so they will be night time jobs when in bed watching tv.

popeye333 - 2014-07-05 16:23:00

well we spent most of the day at the ED of Waikato Hosp today, MrK's elbow swelled up a few days ago and it got to the stage where he could hardly bend it. Tried to get into our GP yesterday but no appointments so a trip over to Hamilton was needed this morning. He's fine now, some steroids for a few days (which all going well will be out of his system before his carpel tunnel surgery) and all should be good.

So I'm knitting my scarf in the waiting room and then realise I have been following the pattern all wrong. BUGGAR!! And I just can't leave it. So I've unpicked it and am beginning again from the edging. My only consolation is the mistake I made a few nights ago is gone lol. Was murphy's law the doctor called us in as I'm part way through putting the stitches back on my needles lol.

Oh well, c'est la vie!

Hope everyone had a better day than me.

Happt knitting :)

morning ladies :) What is it with men when they are ill... moaning minny! Because he can't sleep, I shouldn't either... grrr.... That's my rant for the day lol.

I ended up unpicking the whole scarf and starting from the beginning. It just was not working out. When I read the instructions the pattern said I should have 73 stitches, fine, I think. But when it comes to following the chart (no written instructions for the actual pattern, the rest is by chart) I see I have to have 67 stitches... no wonder I thought I was making mistakes and the pattern was all wonky. This is the second pattern off ravelry with errors I have come across. Oh well, now I know where I was going wrong so easy to fix.

Good luck with the car hunting carole, I just went into Fairview Motors and told them I wanted a Mondeo and as long as it wasn't a blue one I would take it lol. All over in 15 minutes :P Just as well we have dealt with them lots before and they know MrK is/was a mechanic :P

Happy knitting :)

Shame about the pattern kiwi, i'm finding more and more patterns like that its really frustrating. Carolev. I love car shopping probably because I always take the first one I test drive. popeye I've only done 6 squares will post when I get to about 12 or so

Morning everyone.
Oh Kiwimade, patterns can be blardy frustrating like that eh. Ive torn a few up in my time.
Yep I know what you mean about men and not sleeping. Just recently , Hes been itching and complaining so bad about it standing in my bedroom doorway. Ok he cant reach to put cream on but he could gently wake me up instead of sounding like a baby lol.
Its his birthday today so Im trying to decide what to have for tea. Hes saying don't go to any fuss, that would go down well if I didn't tho ,,, Not lol

Will lay out the blanket today and pin that into rows.

Have to admit when we got our car last year all I looked at was the colour Blue and it had a cd player. Lol aint that a girlee thing lol...

Have an awesome day everyone
Beautiful day out there.

We are thinking about getting rid of our old 4 wheel drive, (a 1989 Nissan Safari) but we don't know what to get. We can't be without a vehicle but only have the one, so would probably need to either do a trade-in or buy privately and then try to sell our current one (and we might have trouble selling it although it's very low mileage for it's age). What a pain.

Mr K not feeling too good today, keeps saying he's not going to be around much longer. Oh joy - just what I need to keep hearing - not!

Have an order for a pair of gloves, I've got one 50 gm ball of wool and I see the pattern says it takes 2. Wool is no longer available. I said I will knit one glove and see if I can get the pair out of one ball otherwise I can't do it (unless I unpick a scarf I've knitted in the same wool). Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

I'm on strip five of my blanket and have decided I definitely don't really like it but I've decided to carry on as I don't think I'll get my money back if I try to sell the yarn - I just wish I'd bought some with a bit of wool in it. Also yesterday I started work on a bag which I started some 12 or 13 years ago. Determined to get it finished this month. It's not going to be a very professional job I don't think. I was given the pattern by a friend and the instructions, and I think I could have done it differently and made a better job of it. Never mind, once I've finished, I might do a second one and see if I can do it better.

Happy knitting everyone.

Yes, patterns can be frustrating. I used to be a test knitter for Crucci. You would get wool, a draft pattern and about three days to finish before a photo shoot for the knitting book and you were expected to fix up any corrections. I remember doing a kids jumper in cotton with lots of coloured arrows on it. It had over 18 different bits of colour being worked in it at the same time. Did go on a front cover though which was cool.

Its a quiet day for me here. Went out with other half on borrowed motorbike while ours was getting serviced and holy heck it was a tractor. Went over a bump and felt back protest severely. Then was hanging out washing yesterday and that finished it off. Ouchees!

I know this is a knitting thread but thought I would take a chance here... our nieghbour has left this wee pup with us. She found it on her doorstep shivering but couldn't keep it as she has cats. I've driven round the neighbours (what a way to meet them all lol) and have an advert on Pets on the Net.

If anyone knows who he belongs to, let me know, he's happy here with the Furry One and has settled in as if he plans on staying!

Oh hes a handsome dude. Glad its all sorted. He must have had quite an adventure.
When our friend who is a minister (Madre) we call her, came do do the service for Mum she brought her corgi with her. Turned out he was Our old corgis grandson. Unfortunately we couldn't keep Rusty cos his hair gave MrP very bad asthma. So we gave him back to the breeder.

Menfolk are being rather testing for us all at the mo. I asked MrP to join me in the garage to try and get rid of some of the rubbish. He still wont touch his drawers and table. So he is going to have things go missing. gradually so he wont take any notice. he needs it gone so it doesn't upset him cos he cant use the stuff.

Its his birthday today.. Couldn't decide what to have for tea, so I made him come in the supermarket. he chose Lamb chops. $8 for 4 crumbed shoulder chops... disgusting. Still he loves them . Ill do roast veges too. And custard and banana for pudding

I am back working on my 10st blanket in fits and starts, I can't decide how many rounds to do. I am on my 10th and thinking maybe 12? It is very random indeed.

Its nice having something to go "Back" to tho GMS.

Ive felt very flat today... not like my flat battery, just not quite right.

Will lay the blanket out tomorrow at some stage, depending on how we sort out to get the fridge. Cos we will have to have it delivered, no tow bar on this car grrr.

Also have to pick up the tyre. And make an appointment for breast screening.

Busy Busy..

MrP is happy, one of my friends rang to wish him happy birthday. Shes the only one who remembers without having to be reminded. Its a year today since she broke her arm too so not likely to forget.
