Had a great day...went down to Welly and "spent" my gift voucher at Country Road, then a quick look around Kirks. Ended up at La Bella Italia in Petone ( have not been there in ages) had a lovely relaxed lunch before heading back over the hill. Wellington was pretty busy, Rhapsody of the seas was in port,so lots of passengers milling around town.

Morning Lovely People.
Just back from a week on the Gold Coast, so relaxing... now back into it today. May not see much of me in here for a while, we have found a house we love in the country.. fantastic position and lots of potential when you have a builder in the family lol.. So as if Christmas wasn't stressful and busy enough we are listing out house for sale 2 weeks before Christmas Day lol. We have a wee bit of time up our sleeves as its 1.5 acres subdivided off a bigger lot lot and title is a couple of months away... so wish us luck.
If its meant to be its meant to be :)

Take care everyone and see you when I can.

Morning all,
toady - that's fab news! I'll look forward to being able to say "welcome to rural living" ... even if our rurals are a wee bit different lol!
I've had miss 14 here for the weekend. She's back home now for 2 days of school & then coming back here as it looks like she has some work on our kayak base for the next couple of weeks. Very excited girl at having her 1st real job!
Pam - nice to see you're taking some time out for you :)
Julie - your thoughtfulness in what you are doing for Jenni's young man brought a tear to my eye. What a lovely person you are.
I'd better get off to work. Have a great day ...

I am finally back after a trip to Wellington and am not going anywhere else. I have curtains to put up and boxes to unpack. The house is lovely but I'm a bit overwhelmed - going to Wgtn is always hard work.

I went and said 'goodbye' to the Cathedral on Saturday. It feels like a death in the family, not helped by the nasty squabbles going on.

Hideehi - a rare sick day from work for me - stung by a bee and I am a tad allergic, so spending the day "icing" my hand and keepingit elevated. Wicked headache too, so I've taken a couple of tabs of codeine to hopefully help everything return to normal.

Normal...no such thing really is there, when I look back over this thread and think what extraordinary lives other posters have (but y'all each think your life is ordinary I bet!)

Thanks Elliehen, for posting the link.. have replied.. with an updated method of preparing tins, change in some ingredients or quantities, and mixing the cake.. a la 2011..

How are all your Christmas plans going? You are indeed a very special person,Jenni is so lucky to have you for her mum.
You are a very kind loving person,a very special earthangel, hope you and your lovely family have the best Xmas yet xxxx

I have most things organised now.. just a few stocking fillers to find, and all done. Jenni's Partner will join us for Christmas and they'll spend New Year with his family. His Dad died when Mr 24 was 17.. Christmas Day was his birthday, so that morning, Mr 24 is making us the breakfast his Dad always made for their family on Christmas Day each year.. Eggs Benedict, bacon, etc..

I'm going to surprise them - hide a box of things - suitcase type gas stove, frying pan, etc.. in the car boot on Christmas Eve, then next morning will put the bacon, eggs, etc.. in a chilly bin, tuck it into the car after gifts are opened.. then say lets go for a drive.. we'll lay flowers at the cemetery for Nana.. then continue the drive over the hill and through Ohope to the Port, where we can sit somewhere along the harbour beach and cook the breakfast we've planned, on the beach.. a rekindling of special memories for us all..

I don't know whether Jenni has said to him that I'm creative and known for making surprise things special.. if not, he's got a few coming!

Hope all your plans are going beautifully.. enjoy the preparations.. :-)

Thanks for asking about Dad - he is doing well at the new rest home. There are only ten residents, so it feels more family=like. Their Christmas theme this year is farm yard animals...with pony rides no less. My mind boggled at the thought of Dad on a pony, but they went on to explain it was for the kids who might come to visit!

I am so glad your Dad is doing better,I would love to work in a smaller rest home,so much more fun,and he would get well looked after.
My job where i work is a hospital wing, and is very heavy,I do a lot of heavy lifting and sadly I have another bladder prolapse so have to have another operation next year.
I will have to look for a lighter job,I guess.
Hope you are feeling better, have been thinking of you.

Hi everyone,

I just had to pop in & share my proud mum moment today ....
Miss 14 has come 2nd equal in academic achievement for year 10 at her school today & won an award in history.
As those of you who are friends of mine on facebook may have seen - she has been experimenting with expressing who she is through hair, clothing, music, poetry & make-up (lots of black in all of the above!) and I had been asked if I was not concerned about this. Her school results are all the answer I need.
She knows what she wants out of life & the work she has to do to achieve it. We talk openly about life, the universe & everything and I think as long as those lines of communication stay open then we'll be ok ... whatever her current 'style' happens to be. I feel more concerned for the kids who I know are one thing when their parents are around but totally different when not.
It looks like a trip into Nelson on Sat will be in order to get her an early Christmas pressie :)

Well done Miss 14!

I got a call from my sis-in-law to say Dad had another stroke today and is under observation in hospital. Family will keep me informed, but I really hope I don't have to go up before Christmas. I know it may sound selfish, but I want to sort out my house. I've been in a muddle since August/September and I need to get it all straight.

Morning all,
thanks for your lovely comments. I am very proud of miss 14 ... both for her academic work & the person she is :)
I shared the little saying with her that you posted recently Pam ... about character v reputation - she loved it!
Sorry to hear about your Dad calista - I hope he comes right & you can have a peaceful Christmas.
It's pouring with rain here today ... & it's going to get worse! Severe weather warning in place & gale force winds on their way. Time to head into base to deal with cancellations & rescheduling of trips. Not fun!
Sometimes disappointed tourists can be difficult!!
Have a great day out there

Hope some of you get to see the sun today ... don't think ellie & I will lol!

At the end of the 2nd video is footage of the washout at Birds Hill. This is on the road between Takaka & Collingwood ... just north of the Pupu springs turn-off. The council is expecting the northern end of Golden Bay to remain cut-off for 2-3 days.
So much for miss 14 joining me tomorrow!
The Abel Tasman Coastal Track is also shut with some major slips that DOC don't expect to have cleared before next week & flooding at Awaroa. Guess who got sent home early from work :/

:-)

Eggs benedict - fried or grilled bacon, poached egg and hollandaise sauce on a toasted english muffin. Extras - tea/coffee (maybe even latte), grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, cold juice, milk, sugar, butter, - and the list goes on.

What are you thinking? Do you really expect this young man to pay homage to his dad by making him cook his annual tribute meal to his dad, for 3 people, on a park bench using a small gas stove and a frying pan.

Have you considered that the seagulls, wind, sand, having to use the public loos to wash hands, get water and go to the loo, the vagries of weather, having to take a pile of dirty dishes home for washing and even being outside, in a deserted public place on Christams Day when everyone else is inside or travelling, may detract, rather than add pleasant ambiance to the setting?

I am a great cook but even I, when faced, suddenly, with this scenario would feel daunted and struggle to rise to the occasion.

This is just mean and does not sit well with your usual kind heartedness. I hope he forgives you.
