You've done a fantastic job popeye, well done to everyone who contributed. If anyone else is doing squares and doesn't know where to send them, I know one lady was waiting for some - not sure if I can name her on here without getting my knuckles rapped, so I won't - but you can check out on the fb thread who needs some. I would send this particular lady some myself but I've already sent her 14 and I don't want half the blanket to have been made using my squares - I like to spread them around a bit. kuaka - 2014-06-23 16:20:00
Good idea that too Kuaka. re having them sent to different places. I am going to try and learn the chevron stitch from you tube now. Untill I have enough squares for the next blanket. Which wont be quite as big. That one was getting hard to work with popeye333 - 2014-06-23 16:38:00
The blanket is looking great. grandmasue1 - 2014-06-23 17:25:00
Is the raleigh st Christian centre in Cambridge grandma sue? If it is can you tell me a bit mroe about it, like times and costs? I have never been to anything like that and it sounds interesting. healthynz67 - 2014-06-23 17:32:00
That fibre show sounds good GMS. Its crochet together twinklestar. I enjoy crocheting things together. popeye333 - 2014-06-23 17:58:00
The blanket looks great Popeye - and Kuaka's squares do add pizzaz to it. Kuaka the spray I use for sooty mould and the associated "bugs" is baking soda which kills the little nasties, washing up detergent and cooking oil. I googled the amounts and found that the one in the NZ Herald was 1tbsp of each to a litre of water so that is what I have used today. I have used some other brought sprays but didn't like the chemical aspect of them and they didn't seem to work any better than this and wont affect the fruit. jayemtoo - 2014-06-23 18:24:00

Wow jayemtoo, that sounds easy enough, and cheap as chips. We have a problem with sooty mould or whatever it's called, and when I'm vigilant, I'm spraying frequently, and the spray costs a small fortune - I would much rather spend that money on more yarn (not that I need more - but when has that ever stopped a knitter? hehe) Toe is sore tonight as I hurt it taking the kitty litter down to the nether regions of the garden just so that my neurotic cat won't have another "episode" and start peeing everywhere. Now toe is all red/blue and swollen again. kuaka - 2014-06-23 19:00:00
morning ladies :) BUGGAR! about the toe kuaka (you know I want to type another word don't you lol). Your poor toe is taking a real hammering. I have to find the mousetrap this morning. It caught a mouse around midnight and the Furry One managed to get the trap, mouse and all and raced outside through the doggy door. Heaven knows what if any, is left of the mouse. Not a nice chore to do but has to be done. I blame MrK as he didn't tell the Furry One to 'wait' before he picked up the trap. So of course the Furry One just barged through and grabbed the mouse, trap and all. Might pop in to see the wool and fibre show today after work. There should be loads of ideas to be inspired by. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-06-24 07:36:00
Morning everyone.. Ohh Kuaka I hope you haven't re broken the toe.. Ouchies. Please take notes Kiwimade at the fibre show lol Taking MrP up for His bloods this morning. Post a sale and drop one off. Then Im going to look at some tutorials for the chevron stitch. Since I don't have anything important on my needles.. Ill take a couple of days for me. Have a good day all popeye333 - 2014-06-24 08:39:00

not sure twinklestar, I didn't make it there today as MrK text me to say he had made a doctor appointment and could I drive him (he has cateracts). So tomorrow I will try again and post here costs etc. Almost finished the wee cardy I'm knitting :) just the neckline to do. kiwimade64 - 2014-06-24 17:34:00

I am not very happy with my hoodie/cape so might unpull it. I will procrastinate. Serves me right for not using a pattern. grandmasue1 - 2014-06-24 19:41:00
grandmasue, sorry to hear you're suffering at the moment, those aloe vera impregnated tissues are great so that your poor old nose doesn't end up red raw. Get better soon. kuaka - 2014-06-24 21:16:00
morning ladies :) Sorry to hear you aren't well GMS, there seems to be quite a few bugs and colds going round at the moment. MrK is getting buggar all sleep which means I get buggar all sleep so we aren't happy campers either. His carpel tunnel is giving him endless pain so off to the doc yesterday (again!). This time he has a different pain relief, as well as the doc calling Waikato Hosp to put him up the list for surgery. Will take a few days for this medication to work - can't come soon enough for either of us! Thanks for the info popeye, I am going to try out the navigation thingy on my phone today and see if it directs me to the exhibition. I can see why people say their life is on their phone! So many things you can use it for. I finished the cardy for our grandy and in spite of the pattern being a pain to knit, it has knitted up beautifully. I suspect it won't fit her though lol as daughter phoned with latest Plunket details and ommg she has grown! Never mind, son can give it to his friends who recently became parents. I have wound the hank of baby alpaca wool for my scarf so might start it this evening. Exciting stuff knitting for me lol. I can't post a pic of Baxter as our daughter has joined our FB page and I want him to be a surprise. Am pleased she has joined though :) I'm toodling off to help my friend in her shop this morning, so hope everyone manages to stay dry. happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-06-25 07:40:00
morning all. no news carolev - 2014-06-25 08:43:00
oh kiwimade, what a pain in the bum, re the carpel tunnel. I used to suffer terribly with it, and at the time I was doing yoga and the instructor gave me a simple exercise to do and honestly within days it had fixed itself and I never needed any further treatment. Tell Mr K to try this. Hold his arm out straight in front of him, and concentrating on his wrist and without moving his wrist (hold it with the other hand if necessary), slowly rotate the hand in a big circle, do it 10 times in one direction, then 10 times in the other direction. Do this several times a day. My pain was gone within a week. This would have been some 25 years ago and occasionally it starts to give trouble and I just do the exercises a few times and it's all gone again. Can't hurt to try it. Might not work for everyone but it certainly worked for me. It's rather damp here today, not cold (although I've put the heat pump on 'cos my Mr K really feels the cold) I haven't decided whether I'll go to knit and natter this morning, haven't been up long (I slept very well last night) but if I don't go I'm sure I'll find something to do. Don't have to look far here to see something that needs doing. Have a great day everyone. Edited by kuaka at 8:48 am, Wed 25 Jun kuaka - 2014-06-25 08:47:00
*kiwimade* just turn left at the new roundabout, go straight up the hill, straight through a second roundabout, then 3rd rd on right, between Liquor Store and Vegie shop. The Church and Hall will be right in front of you on the left. grandmasue1 - 2014-06-25 09:02:00
Morning all. Hope the tap stops running soon GMS. I prefer tissues as they don't re-infect you like hankies do Im going to the library this morning to print off some patterns. I want to do the Grace dress for Addy next door. I have some pretty variegated yarns I want to use. Have to find it and put onto the usb stick. Handy being able to do that. Hope you all have fun at the fibre show. Happy Knitting popeye333 - 2014-06-25 09:27:00
I found it, thanks GMS :) There were some lovely pieces of work and the felting... wow! Thanks for the exercise tip kuaka, I'll pass it on to my Mrk and see how he goes. He tends to feel sorry for himself when things don't go well so hopefully this will help :) What a bleak day! Now I am home, I might make a start on my scarf. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-06-25 14:25:00
Afternoon, Thought of your toe this am Kuaka as I jammed my finger in a cupboard door, it was very ouch at the time but not as bad as a broken little toe and now just a purple nail and of course I have banged it twice since. Painted the lounge ceiling this am and have a good feeling of accomplishment the plasterer is coming end of the week so can paint the walls next week so feel like things are on the move at last - started stripping wallpaper boxing day so not a hurried job. Probably will take me the next 6 months deciding on the curtains as no idea what I want but present ones are 30years old and look rather weary on it. Now have feet up and knitting on the go - lovely way to relax jayemtoo - 2014-06-25 14:35:00
Yes it was interesting...I may go back in tomorrow, as that is when a lot off stuff will be on sale. I would love to win the raffle :) I honestly could not decide what was the most outstanding piece . grandmasue1 - 2014-06-25 14:36:00
Hi All... So Im now going to go offline.. And start a Gracie Dress for Addy.. Have a good night all popeye333 - 2014-06-25 17:40:00
could you pass on my condolences to Bianca please popeye. I hope she is taking care of herself. I might have to go back tomorrow as well GMS lol. I've started my scarf but after knitting doubleknit, I feel all thumbs knitting 2 ply :p. It shouldn't take long to get back into the swing of it though. I fell asleep when I got home from work so the pic of our grandy's cardy will have to wait until tomorrow when I have better lighting. Knew I was tired! happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-06-25 20:44:00
morning :) Still dark outside but I suspect we are in for a rough ride weather wise. Perfect for knitting or other craft work! Down to one dog tonight to will have The Furry One moping about again for the weekend lol. When I get home this afternoon I'll have another tutu with my scarf. It's pretty straight forward but I had to read the pattern several times to get my head around it. And it's hard to knit with two dogs demanding attention! Whatever you are doing today, stay dry and warm! Happy knitting :) Edited by kiwimade64 at 7:02 am, Thu 26 Jun kiwimade64 - 2014-06-26 07:01:00

Morning started with wee 4.9 earthquake this morning. Thought the cat was jumping onto the bed at first. Another square done last night after hanging curtains in the sewing room. Three attempts at getting the height right but all good in the end...large ranch sliders and a burmese hanging off the end of them didn't help either vivz2 - 2014-06-26 08:36:00
Morning everyone... Will pass on your condolences Kiwimade.. I have people making sure she is eating.. Have a good day all popeye333 - 2014-06-26 09:34:00
It's wet, wet, wet here. When I put the cat's collar on and unlocked the cat door she gave me a look as if to say "you don't seriously think I'm going out in this do you?" but she's gone out anyway. We decided that until she calls a truce with the neighbouring cats she gets too stressed out if we keep her in 'cos of the rain, so she goes out, realises it's wet and the other cats aren't there, and she comes back in again. Well that's what has happened so far since we started letting her out despite the awful weather. I feel guilty letting her out when it's so wet, when I'm sure she would be happier curled up indoors in the warm. As you say kiwimade, perfect day for knitting or crafts. I did some sewing yesterday - nothing exciting, just put an extension on a new sheet, even Kingsize ones don't seem big enough to tuck in more than about two inches, so they don't stay tucked in, so I always sew about an extra foot onto them, along one side and across the bottom - so as I said, nothing exciting. Might get through all the boring jobs soon and start on something for me. Just a gentle rumble then re the earthquake vivz2 - I can honestly say we've not felt one in all the years we've been up this way. I was in Whangamata when the Edgecumbe one struck a few years back and certainly felt that one. Not something I'm keen to experience again in a hurry. Happy knitting everyone. kuaka - 2014-06-26 09:49:00
I didn't go out today after all as am coughing a lot. Rather low on energy. It is not good to be coughing at any time but because I have a large abdominal hernia I have to try and hold that and catch my germs. I can't cough into my elbow like they are teaching folk to do these days because I am holding my tummy. Oh deary me. grandmasue1 - 2014-06-26 15:15:00
GMs its cant be easy for you.. What about little masks either for you to wear or Pasue, so he doesn't catch any of your bugs. popeye333 - 2014-06-26 15:38:00
It is a thought *popeye* part of me doesn't mind if he catches my germs. He doesn't go anywhere to catch any but we do have family in and out. grandmasue1 - 2014-06-26 19:12:00
Well I never made it to cambridge. Such as life, maybe next time. Did get alot done that I wanted to. Today am going into town to the gym and then to supermarket and spotlight. I got my hair done yesterday at the hairdressing school, but they started late so finished late, so I never got as much time as I wanted to spend in spotlight as had to meet up with a friend at chartwell. I grabbed 2 balls of wool and rushed off to chartwell. So I will have a better look today. There were some balls of wool 50g that were multi coloured, I grabbed 1 and another colour to go with it. I will have a better look today. healthynz67 - 2014-06-27 06:34:00
morning all. off to TA today to see that old woman . happy knitting carolev - 2014-06-27 07:34:00
morning :) Hope you are feeling better today GMS. I never made it back to the Fibre show yesterday either, just had too much on. Twinklestar, the exhibition is on until Saturday but I think yesterday was their trade day. Wonder why they don't have their trade day on a Saturday. You will love the variegated wool/yarn, it's fun to see it being crocheted or knitted up and inspires you to keep going. It's back to the coalface today, must admit I am enjoying it. MrK got a call from Waikato Hosp yesterday and he sees the surgeon (again!) on Monday! So our doctor must have really put the hard word on! Hopefully surgery won't be too far off. My sister found a crochet hook made of bone, double ended, in an antique shop. I don't know how old it is and there are no markings on it. I can size it easily enough by comparing to hooks I have. Am looking forward to using it as it is lovely and smooth so cotton or yarn should 'slip' nicely. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-06-27 07:34:00
Nice find kiwimade, bone is lovely to work with. Make sure the furry ones don't see it though raej2 - 2014-06-27 08:34:00
Morning everyone. The Bone hook sounds cool Kiwimade. I started a top down yesterday in this cool variegated yarn I got from a swap and it is sooo cool. Will put a pic up when Im finished. Going to the fruit and vege shop this morning, Wonder how much lettuce will be this week? Will go to oppy on the way home.. Drop off some stuff. Ill check out the wool too if they have any. Have a good day everyone. popeye333 - 2014-06-27 09:07:00
Thick fog here this morning, followed by a heavy shower, now we sunshine. It is a bit cool though, but not real wintery - yet! I always think July and August are the coldest months - and an old lady I knew used to say "as the days get longer, the cold gets stronger". Off for our walk soon, then sewing this afternoon, did some yesterday. I need to do lots more before I can see the bottom of the pile of stuff sitting waiting for attention, then I want to swap the sewing room around, move the sewing cabinet and the industrial machine, and try to tidy up - it will be a bit of a mission, as it's almost standing room only in there right now. There are some big projects waiting their turn and they are taking up a lot of floor space. I must get cracking. Hope you find some bargains popeye. Happy knitting. kuaka - 2014-06-27 10:28:00
I did get a couple of bargains... first let me say I forgot to take the stuff down to the oppy tho lol. Ohh the rain is bouncing lol, hail... Will be knitting this afternoon, now that Ive had a nice clean up popeye333 - 2014-06-27 12:34:00

I had a good spend at spotlight yesterday, and got a few balls of that wool, well no acrylic, that has got multi colours in it. I got a few more balls of the colours in it to crochet up as well. I have almost finished sewing my king size blanket up and I have started smaller squares to make another blanket. I like playing tih the combination of colurs. healthynz67 - 2014-06-28 07:23:00
morning :) You could be right about the trade day GMS, there certainly is a lot happening in Cambridge over the weekends. Good on you twinklestar, would love to see pics of your work. A kingsize blanket is a huge amount of work! I'm typing one handed today as the Furry One is on my lap with his nose over my arm. My friend introduced him to her new dog last night so there was lots of fun racing round. seems to me all terriers do is hoon and dig lol. Housework is all done so today I shall knit or stitch, haven't decided. My scarf is coming along slowly, this 2ply lark is taking a bit to get used too. But it is looking lovely and lacey from the small bit I have already done. Happy knitting :) kiwimade64 - 2014-06-28 08:50:00
