I reckon you can never have too much wool either

#Post
5001

Morning everyone.. Congrats on the 5000 Kuaka lol.

Very dark here. Rain was heavy enough for me to hear last night. So I guess the lawns wont get done again today.

My back is very sore this morning , took a sleeping pill last night. First one in a while. Slept very well but woke up on my back which is not a good place to be.
So Ive got washing on that will go straight in the dryer, and other than that Ill be resting my back.
I have to do the arms on the girl puppy, add her ears and hat and a bow for her tummy. I must check when I started them.
Then Ill be joining a second blanket. Will lay them out on a bed this time instead of juggling them on the table.
Have a good day Everyone

Hello all, I got a bag of wool given to me yesterday. So I am (inbetween work and gym and life), crocheting it up.
I have wednesday-sunday off work, so will go to spotlight, even if it is just for a few balls of wool, but will look at 2 wool shops in town and see how much wool I get. I wonder if it is cheaper to get from a shop in town rather than online, have seen some nice looking colours online at doramores. If I get time, I will go to a few opp shops out of town, probably places like ngaruawahia etc. Amazing what cheap little gerseys can be pulled for wool.
Hubby thinks this is a costly addiction, well it could be.....but its my money and when I want more it is his ;)
When I am out I will look for patterns of animals, in the opp shops etc.
I know in Hamilton, davids emporium in hood st, used be good for crafty things, so I may have a look there. Gee thinking about it, I may have to go back to work for a rest.....lol.
Going to get a head of foils from the hairdressing school, so something bright but not outrageous would be good for the winter.
When any of you ladies join your crocheted blanket, do you stitch it together or crochet it together?
My next blanket will be in smaller squares I have decided.

Hi Twinklestar. I crochet my blankets together. I like the ridge it makes. Ive just laid out a 8 by 7 square one for my Lets wrap up NZ group on facebook. so I have a lot of work to put it together.
Davids Emporium used to be a fantastic shop. We used to go there when we lived in Mangakino.

I always do the Oppys when I go out of town. We only have one here in Waiuku. but I do get the odd bags of wool from them.

Id love to sit at a hair dressers or the training schools and have people do something to my hair. But all I ever do with it is put it up in a bun anyway so not a lot would show lol... But I love having people play with my hair.

Have finished the Puppies and posted them off. I took some wool and a hook to the drs and got a square done. Just a plain light blue one.

Im hoping the next charity we chose to give blankets to will be for babies, just cos I can imagine the soft colours for bubs.

Im sitting here with the laptop on a tray table, My feet up on a stool underneath, and the kitten between me and the table lol... shes a hard case critter.
She could tell I was a little wound up at tea time so came and sat on the arm of my chair. leant against me but didn't look me in the eye. she just let me know she was there.. smart little girl she is.

Hope everyone had a good day

Evening all, I picked up some new wool yesterday. I seem to have regained my knitting mojo. I'm thinking of doing some cushions for my sofa in my sewing room but need flurry or furry yarn. My local shops dont seem to stock it though so will have to search further afield

vivz2 - 2014-06-17 18:18:00

Evening,
Was given some wool for slippers, think it is a discontinued line as can't find it on line it is Naturally Jumbo it is thick enough to tie up an ocean liner -must be at least 14ply but could be more rather hard to knit with and can only do a couple of hours at a time or my hands complain too much! fortunately as I felt the slippers tension is not really an issue.

Had workmen in today to prep the living room walls ready for plaster skimming so they can be painted, the place stinks from the sealant used so I am camping in the bedroom at the other end of the house, can't smell it here.

Saw the pups on FB Popeyes they lovely.

Have a good night all

morning :) Wow ladies, you are lucky to be given the wool. Can't imagine knitting wools that thick jayemtoo, at that ply it would be hard on the wrists.

Back into my friend's shop today then home to pick up MrK's script, then today I finish Baxter. He's been sitting on my desk legless (not drunk, I promise!) for a few days now so I need to get him completed.

The Furry and Fluffy Ones are moping about as we caught the mouse that had them both in a tizz. No doubt there will be another soon.

Happy knitting :)

Morning Everyone.
Ohh Kiwimade fancy taking their fun away lol... will be good to see Baxter finished.
Yes Jayemtoo, its always a good day when given wool.
Glad the Ab's are working Carole

I laid the squares out for my second blanket yesterday. So will be starting that today. Sat and watched tv in bed last night, and crochet a couple of squares, Im planning on making one for a friend so this will be the start. Unless I change my mind again lol

Not cold this morning , Ive got the windows wide open. But it does look like it will rain.

Have a good day everyone

morning ladies :) I didn't get the job, I'm disappointed but after a think (and a cry lol) I worked out the cost of travelling two hours a day to and fro and I would not have had much left in my pay. So, in a way, it all worked out. Sometimes what ww wish for isn't always a good thing!

We caught three mice overnight, looks like mum and two kids so we are wondering just how many are 'out there'. Will keep setting the trap until we stop catching them.

I finished baxter yesterday so will take a pic today and post it. I am pleased with him even if his head is a little skew-whiff :P.

Housework for me when I get home from work then some more knitting. I can't stitch in the evenings, my eyes can't cope with it.

Happy knitting and stay dry :)

Sorry about the job Kiwimade but as you say probably better and just think 2 extra hours per day for knitting rather than driving lol.

Looks like a nice day here so hope to finish first coat on ceiling then some outside time while fumes dissipate. Then on with the slippers have request for 3 pairs so need to keep going with them.

jayemtoo - 2014-06-19 08:30:00

morning ladies, well I've had 4 lousy nights' sleep out of 5 now. Yesterday I gave in and had a nana nap after lunch, went to bed at 2.30 and told Mr K not to let me sleep longer than 4, he came and woke me at 4.20 and I said to myself "five more minutes" and woke again at 5, feeling like I'd been run over by a bus. Went to bed early last night and slept till 3 so was up at 4.30. I will try to last the day out without a nap and hopefully sleep all night tonight.

Cold here this morning, but the fog is lifting and looks like it will be a nice day - the woodfire is on and it's cosy warm.

Pity about the job kiwimade but maybe for the best. I used to keep pet mice when I was a kid and from memory (not asbolutely 100% certain on this) they start breeding at 6 weeks old and can have as many as 10 offspring, but 6 is more usual, so it doesn't take them long to multiply.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone..

Such a shame Kiwimade, but it just means there will be a better job closer to home for you.
Wow Kuaka not good having crappy sleep... Hope you get back to a normal sleeping pattern soon.

My little Miss is a hair sucker... The freakiest thing to wake up with loud purring and having your hair sucked and pulled in the middle of the night.
Shes only the second cat I know that sucks hair.

I have a pair of curtains to shorten after we have done the groceries this morning . Then back to joining the squares. Im aiming on 1-2 rows joined and added to blanket each day. Im also doing squares of my own for a blanket for a friends birthday.

Have a good day everyone. Keep those fingers moving to stay warm

Morning everyone, funny how we put up with cats in the middle of the night. Mine bites my nose. Popeye my sisters old cat used to be a hair sucker but would slide the entire length of hair from shaft to end through her teeth. Two squares made last night, crochet this time. I have my 8" size all sussed now. Other half very pleased cos I now sit with him through an entire TV programme instead of wandering off somewhere.....

vivz2 - 2014-06-19 09:26:00
5015

housework almost done :) I haven't taken a pic of baxter and can't post in the FB group anyway lol as my daughter has joined and I want him to be a surprise for our wee grandy's birthday. So I'll take a pic and post in here :P tomorrow or Saturday, will see how time goes.

I need to reread the pattern I'm knitting, it doesn't make sense. Well, more like badly written. I like patterns to say cast off x amount at the neck edge... that sort of thing. I'll work it out, just a bit of a fiddle.

The Furry and Fluffy Ones are stretched out on the back of the couch enjoying the late afternoon sun. It's such a tough life being a dog in our family lol.

Hope you are able to sleep better tonight Kuaka, nothing worse than that foggy feeling of no sleep.

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-06-19 16:09:00
5016

Too true re the lack of sleep. I was almost ready for a nap and that was only an hour after breakfast. As long as I don't nod off in the chair tonight I should (fingers crossed) be okay. Nice clean sheets on the bed. I woke up last night and I was so hot, I thought I'd long since finished with the night sweats, but it seems not.

Popeye I used to have a cat that sucked on my first husbands t-shirt around his sweaty armpits. She must have been a bit retarded I think.

I climbed up on one of the dining room chairs this morning to remove and clean the filters in the heat pump, almost overbalanced and hurt my broken toe something wicked. It throbbed like mad. Two hours later, I accidentally stood on little puss' paw and she hollered, I jumped, and hurt my broken toe again. This time it hurt so bad I had to sit down, and I felt quite sick. Four weeks today since I did it and it's still red and swollen and hurting like hell. Bugger!

I've almost finished the third strip of my zig zag blanket - I calculate only 35 or 36 more to go. Ye gods - I must be mad. The crochet one is making progress. Maybe next week I'll do some more squares.

Enjoy your evening.

Three times in one day - it's not fair. Just before cooking tea, I brought some firewood up, put it at the back door while I took my shoes off. Bent forward to pick it up and leaned too far forward and bent my toes up. I can't explain how much it hurt. Going to sit with my feet up now and keep my toe out of trouble.

kuaka - 2014-06-19 20:00:00
5018

ohhh dam kuaka, that must have realllllllly hurt! Is it worth taping to protect it?

kiwimade64 - 2014-06-19 22:08:00
5019

I tried taping it kiwimade but it's the little one, and I found it isn't sort of beside the next one enough, it's further down the foot, and the tape needed to be angled too much or I would have to tape the whole foot. Bit of a nuisance really. The worst is when I have to dry between it and it's mate after my shower.

morning ladies :) Having a wee giggle at jayemtoo saying I'll have an extra two hours to knit :P, I soooo wish! My days are getting pretty full on already lol.

Buggar kuaka, steel capped boots with the steel cap all the way round lol is my best suggestion (no coffee yet so brain not in gear!).

Back to work today, only until lunchtime though. The Fluffy One had an extra night with us and will be picked up this afternoon. If it is fine this afternoon I'll finish the garden so my weekend will be free to catch up on important things like knitting and stitching. Got housework done last night and will vacuum this morning before I leave. MrK is fixing a friends truck so he's busy busy too :)

Another mouse bit the dust over night.. omg GMS, they breed like flippin rabbits!

Happy knitting :)

Ouch Kuaka - if too painful to dry try a hair dryer on the toes will save disturbing the poor wee one.
We'll have to be optimistic Kiwimade but know what you mean somehow days fill up when in theory we should have more time it just seems to disappear.

Frosty at the moment but then nice day not a cloud to be seen at the moment. Might go to skeinz later as have an idea for dying sock wool and want to see if it works, not that I need more at the moment but oh well can't waste an idea lol

Have a good day everyone

Morning everyone.

Oh Kuaka, do you think you should get the dr to check your toe. There could be bone pressing on nerves etc in the toe. I know I would after 4 weeks.
Kiwimade I remember when at primary school I took one of the school mice home for the Christmas holiday. I took ten back to school in the January. The other that they thought was a female obviously wasn't lol.

I have to go back up the road for a few things that were forgotten yesterday. Fold heaps of washing and then back to the blanket.

Have a good day everyone

Kuaka, ouchy with the toes. I broke two toes a few years back trying to play soccer with my son with only socks on...didn't work. But re drying them...an elderly lady I was caring for at the time made a sleeve and put over a fly swat. She used it to dry between her toes without having to bend down. Was quite clever really and worked well :)

vivz2 - 2014-06-20 09:08:00
5025

morning ladies, thanks for the suggestions re drying between my toes, both ideas I would never have thought of. I'll give them a go - even though I don't have a fly swat, I'll find something else to try. I have to go to the surgery next week for more bp pills so will mention it. I know last time I broke a toe it was the little one on the other foot and they said that normally they just tape them together but my little toe is very tiny and the top of it snuggles up halfway down the toe next to it and it's difficult to tape. Surely if I stop giving it grief it will heal soon, and stop hurting.

I went to bed at 11.30 (early for me) and slept like a log till 2am. When I looked at the clock and the time actually registered, I just leaned over and took half a sleeping pill and Mr K brought me a cup of tea at 9.15, so hopefully I will feel better today and tonight I will sleep normally.

I still have two zig zags to knit to finish the 3rd strip of my blanket, seems to be taking forever, but that's probably because I keep picking up the crocheted one. I've just found some knitted squares that I was going to use to make tea cosies, I might try unpicking a couple (they've been sewn together at the top in a sort of pleat) and crochet an couple of rows around them to make them the right size, and then they can go towards a blanket. Might try doing that this afternoon.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2014-06-20 09:59:00
5026

Been busy this morning, but I have managed to join a third row to the blanket.
So back to putting the squares of a row together again.

Im crocheting squares of my own at night for a friends birthday. Doing them all plain colours. Cos I liked the look of all the plain ones in the blanket that Sarah is doing in the group.

I seem to be sleeping better with Missy perched on my hip or snuggled into my armpit lol. When I turn she does.
Shes like a little kid, when shes getting tired she starts running around and being really silly. So I call her to me. She jumps into my lap and goes to sleep lol. shes on her pillow asleep now.

You know what I really like about everyone doing blankets not just for the group but Home.. It means theres certainly a real craze for them. but that they will last for years to come. And what is better than being able to look at a blanket you have made and know that it was made with love and probably will last longer than modern brought blankets

popeye333 - 2014-06-20 12:34:00
5027

as well as being unique popeye :), that's what I love about them too.

Worked this morning, gardened this afternoon for a bit and will finish the winter tidy up tomorrow - what a mission! Can usually whip round the weeding over a couple of days now but lack of compost room, having to use the wheelie bin and the weather really slowed me down. Oh well... almost done.

Am going to sit down and knit... or crochet... can never decide lol.

Hope everyone is snuggly and warm, it's cold outside here.

happy knitting :)

carolev - 2014-06-21 07:49:00
5029

morning ladies :) am about to don the gummies and woolly hat and head outside to finish this weeding. I have a large bucket of daffodils that need planting and I need to 'see' where to put them. My hyacinths are popping up through the soil, I've never grown them before so can't wait to see the results. I have them in a shallowish pot and will put them on the large 'cotton reel' (used to have fibreoptic line wound around it for wifi) I use as an outdoor table. Will be lovely sitting next to them with my morning cuppa :)

Then I'll get some crafting done, I've missed it over the past few weeks. MrK is still working on our friend's truck so I'll have the house all to me this morning :P.

Happy knitting :)

Morning everyone.
MrP still in bed so its nice here too lol.. bit overcast gloomy and grey today.

Nothing too much on my agenda so Ill do another row at least on the blanket, maybe two. I must vacuum tho, for a little wee girl Missy can make a huge mess with leaves , torn up paper etc. But she has soo much fun lol

Had to undo nearly a full square last night, had about half a round short of wool.. but I want perfect full ones for this blanket..grr.

Have a good day all

carolev - 2014-06-22 08:02:00
5032

morning :) it is a good day to be out and about carole, suns out here too and fog is lifting.

Our nieghbour popped over yesterday and I showed her 'Baxter' (still need to take pic!) and her wee granddaughter's face just lit up when she saw him so I think Baxter is going to be a hit :).

Another mouse caught last night, MrK has been getting up in the wee hours thanks to his carpel tunnel and said he saw THREE (omggg!!) in the living room. So the trap was moved from the laundry! We have an old open fire and he said he saw them come from in there so he's going to block the chimney as we never use the fire. So one mouse down, two to go!

Happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-06-22 08:54:00
5033

Morning ladies. How's the car-hunting carolev? Any luck yet?

What a pain popeye having to undo most of a square - couldn't you have done the last round in a contrasting or blending colour? I know what it's like though. Yesterday I discovered that I had managed to work a navy blue corner halfway along one side of the blanket I'm making and didn't realise until I got to that point with the first row of the camel. I cursed, but luckily I had joined the camel in at a different corner to where I'd finished the navy and I was able to unravel just half of one side of navy to the extra corner, and redo that bit and then continue with the camel.

Looks like being a lovely day today. Mr K is still in bed. We didn't go for our walk yesterday as he wasn't feeling too good. Hope he's feeling better today.

Nothing else to report. Hope everyone has a great day. Happy knitting.

kuaka - 2014-06-22 08:55:00
5034

Morning everyone... Were getting later and later lol.

Noo I undid the whole square Kuaka. I want this blanket to have all one colour squares.. Im a bit of a headcase when it comes to things like that. I like things even too. In pairs etc. An OCD I suppose.

Kiwimade you need a sign with We Welcome Mice and a picture of a trap on it lol.

MrP isn't feeling the best either. His sugars have been up all week. he has a little temp

I learnt a very Important lesson last night.

If your going to see if a Kitten likes custard, do it when you have all but finished.. NOT when your starting your pudding lol.. Had to constantly fight her off lol. She loved it. didn't give her much tho.

Im hoping to get the last two rows done today.. Then I think Ill have to put at least 2 rows around the edge. it will look strange without it, not complete.

Have a good day everyone.

Oh Kiwimade glad Baxter was a hit

popeye333 - 2014-06-22 09:34:00
5035

I think I would have just finished that square in a different colour and put it aside to use in a separate blanket, as I hate undoing anything unless it's absolutely essential.

Kiwimade, maybe you need to invest in a cat, that would solve your mouse problem.

kuaka - 2014-06-22 10:39:00
5036

Just a brief pop-in. *kuaka* a hair dryer is great for drying awkward spots :)

I am knitting up a friends discarded Pullover. It is navy blue so can only work on it during the day. It is a sleeveless vest and she has only gone as far as the armhole on the first front. I may yet unpull and start from the beginning but so far the change of knitter isn't showing.

grandmasue1 - 2014-06-22 13:08:00
5037

ohh lucky GMS, sounds like you have similar tensions. That will save some time and work.

Haven't been knitting today, been concentrating on my dragon picture. I estimate roughly another 20 hours stitching then I can do the backstitching and finish. Am very pleased with it, more so now I can see the end is coming!

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-06-22 15:15:00
5038

Yes very lucky the tension is the same.. Saves a lot of work.

Wow Kiwimade your nearing the end of all your hard work. Do you have another picture lined up?

Ive joined the two rows, and have one pinned to rest of blanket. Will join that later. Still a couple of days easy cos doing a border will take a while even just a couple of rows.
Looks like the rowdy neighbours over the road have finally finished moving. And some more youngish ones are moving in. I don't suppose it can be much worse than what we had.. Fingers crossed.

popeye333 - 2014-06-22 15:42:00
5039

yes I have popeye, datoofairy sent me a lovely pattern to stitch, I also have one of a Jack Russell waking a little girl - he is the spitting image of our boy lol and a red rose. I've had the rose pattern for around 8 or 9 years so may do that one first. Then there is the hardanger runner I want to stitch for our rimu dressing table.... just like knitting, there is always something to stitch!

Almost finished the cardy for our grandy but I suspect it may be too small. No worries, I'll give it to son's friends who had a wee girl not long ago. Bother, meant to take the pic of Baxter today but too busy stitching. Will try and get to it tomorrow after work.

Hope everyone is hunkered down against the cold.

happy knitting :)

My merino/possum project finished. It is for my daughter, who is quite a 'big' girl and last year she brought herself a $500 dollar coat reduced to $150. It is black so we thought she needed something to perk it up.

5041

Cold? What cold? It's quite mild here - says she wrapped up in a blanket, but I have turned the heat pump off, and I'm feeling quite weary and thinking about having a really really really early night.. Probably a big mistake as I will end up awake for half the night.

See you tomorrow.

I have finished all my big squares, am a little unsure how to crochet them all up and have them look nice. A friend is going to show me this week.
So in the meantime, I have started on doing little squares, I like playing with the colours.

5043

morning ladies :) Your daughter got the bargain of the year GMS, what a huge saving! And the pink will look lovely with it too.

I love trying different colour combinations too twinklestar and textures. Also mixing up and repeating stitches will add interest too. Soooo many ways you can show your individuality.

Off to work this morning, then home to spray the garden paths if the weather is fine. What a shame if it is raining, guess I will have to knit!

happy knitting :)

kiwimade64 - 2014-06-23 07:42:00
5044

morning all, rain here this morning, I have to go to the surgery at 10.30 for bp check and probably more bp pills. I shall take my crochet blanket to work on, it's not too big yet to lug around, so I might get a bit done while I'm waiting. I might have to find something else to take next week when we go to the hospital, it might be a bit big to sit and work on in the waiting room.

Not really cold but I have the heat pump going 'cos I know Mr K will be cold when he gets up, and also the little fan heater which is drying out the Herald.

I am pleased to announce that my toe has finally stopped hurting, as long as I don't bump it or put too much weight on it, but while I'm just sitting or walking, it's not hurting at all. That's a relief, as up till about Friday it was hurting all the time, even when I was sitting with my feet up or in bed. So all I have to do now is be careful and it should be back to normal soon. There is still some redness and swelling, but no pain.

Happy knitting everyone.

kuaka - 2014-06-23 07:47:00
5045

Morning all
Love the pink set GMS will look great with the black and nice to see pictures on here - the FB page is getting sort of big so takes a bit more effort to follow on it now.
Your squares sound interesting twinklestar be good to see how they turn out. Kuaka good that finally the toe is starting to behave itself, I have a bit of crochet that I take in my bag when going out and surprising how often I can pull it out and do a few rounds of a beanie, did quite a bit while waiting at a bus stop on Friday.

Lovely day here - cold but sunny so will get out and spray the citrus - it gets the sooty mould on it which is a real nuisance, I use the baking soda and detergent spray which keeps it under control.

Then on with the slippers am finding the heavy wool a bit tedious to do but getting there and have a 10stitch blanket on the go to use up the left overs so do a bit of that in between times.

jayemtoo - 2014-06-23 08:45:00

jayemtoo - tell me more about the baking soda and detergent spray. Sounds much cheaper than anything sold in the garden centres.

Morning all. Really in winter mode now for getting out of bed lol. MrP is still in bed lol.
Everyone is keeping busy by the sounds. Kuaka so pleased your toe is feeling better.
I felt terrible at 2am this morning. So took one of MrPs anti nausea meds and that helped. Was soo sore I sat up in bed to go back to sleep. Which I did, with Missy on my chest. So shes a carer cat which is great.

I will attach the last row this morning Yay its been a big heavy job this blanket. Then Ill have to wait till I get more squares sent to me.

Have a good day everyone

Finished... finally.. and I decided to go with just one edge row, to make it look like blanket stitch. And it matches the ridges too

This is the second blanket Ive constructed for the Lets Wrap NZ group. The four squares in the middle and one on each corner were done by Kuaka. And they highlight it in my opinion.
